Hi everyone. I'm a newbie here, 33, mum of 2, from Wales. Well its time to get rid of my muffin top ( more like a cake shelf now ).
I am super rubbish at sticking to things so this is definatly going to be a challange but I am desperate to stop looking in the mirror and seeing what I see.
I wll be starting Week 1 of the NHS weight loss plan on Monday. I'm a short arse (which doesnt help), Im only 4ft 10 and I weigh 12 stone (the heaviest I've ever been) and its put me in the 'obese' catergory with a bmi of 36 so that's it, it's time to behave myself and get rid of this weight, because I am really not liking what I see in the mirror.
My daily calorie guide is 1432 which is gonna be hell for me because I LOVE my food, I am so used eating all my favourite things like cheese, breads, full fat everything and dirty...dirty...cakes and desserts! I'm also on alot of medication for Fibromyalgia, Trigeminal Neuralgia and Severe Anxiety Distorder so not sure if that will stop me losing weight.
Anyway, I need to do this and I start Monday, anyone else just starting? would be lovely to connect with others on the weight loss journey and make new friends.
xoxo

There's a lot there but it's worth taking your time to read, honest!
We recommend that members join a Weekly Weigh-In, on the day of your choice, and also use the Daily Diary, where members share their meal plans and get useful feedback.
A special feature of our Forum is the degree of support between members which you will experience (and add to yourself !) as you join in and chat with others.
Hi if you click on the Guide link I sent you it tells you that the days Weigh In and Daily Diary are listed both under Pinned Posts and Events and advises you how to find those sections. I'll give you a direct link to this Saturdays Weigh In for now (see below)but do go back to the Guide and explore the site or else you wont get the hang of finding things for yourself and then might have a wait till that days Admin or another member can help you out 😄
PS dont click on Write when you get to the Weigh In. Read the blurb which explains what the Weigh In is about and then do your own weigh in in the reply box underneath the Host's intro Please go up and down the replies there and join in to reply to others who are also weighing in as that way you get to know the others in the team and them you and build support, it's good fun! 👍💪
oooo brill, nice to know someone else is starting the same day. What day are you doing your weigh-in? If I start the plan on Monday...is it the the Monday after that I so my first weigh-in?
Replying to nomorecake86 as well. You could both head off to Sundays Weigh In page tonight (listed in both Pinned Posts and in Events)and you could put in todays weight and tomorrow come back to it and chat with others weighing in(most tend to weigh in during Sunday itself, we open the night before for members living outside UK).
Then next Sunday look out for the new Sunday Weigh In and put in your new weight and chat with your team members, that's how you get to know the others and all support eachother 👍🤗
Welcome nomorecake86 you are in in rge right place.
Welcome to the forum! 👋Wishing you all the best finding a healthy eating/ exercise plan that will last longterm (as opposed to a "diet") and hearing how you get on 😊
"More like a cake shelf" 😆oh thank you, you started my day with a laugh! You have a good sense of humour which is such an asset when we have difficult times. Best of luck with your weight loss journey. Visualise yourself on one of those lovely Welsh beaches running around with your children in a SWIMSUIT- that should keep you motivated & focused. Enjoy the rest of your weekend
haha I can't even remember the last time I wore a swimsuit, but I have promised myselt a clothes shopping spree if I can stick to this and obtain my goal.
Good luck with it. It's daunting I know, but there's lots of advice and support here. I find that if I don't buy it I can't eat it, so biscuits aren't on the shopping list. Good luck
Thank you. Unfortunatly the treats will have to stay on the shopping list or the husband and kids would sack me but I will definatly keep my favourites off the list.
Good luck and pace urself, the weight didn’t go on overnight so it will take a while 2 come off. Pace urself and every time u go 4 the biscuit barrel have a short walk & glass of water first & c if u still ‘need’ it. Sometimes works 4 me, other times the walk has burnt the calories 2 then have it! Find some recipes 4 low fat cake on line, if u don’t have any cake (treat) u’ll more likely cave in on the healthy eating! Everything in moderation! Jx
Thank you. Yes I've heard of the 'Do I need it?' tactic while eating your dinner for example .. putting your knife and fork down between bites and asking yourself do I really need anymore. So will definatly be trying that out. Good Idea, I will have a look today for some low calorie sweet things. I am definatly one of those people that needs something sweet after eating something savoury. x
Two related thoughts:
- carbs will stimulate your appetite. If you want to know more, there’s a low carb high fat (LCHF) group here & also carbdodging.com & dietdoctor.com
- be much more afraid of sugar than fat. Low fat stuff tends to have more sugar, even low fat plain yoghurt has more milk sugars. Not getting enough fat means that our bodies go on strike & we are compelled to stuff our faces with cake. It’s not about lack of willpower or being greedy pigs, it’s about low fat not being something our bodies can cope with.
Yes. Ditch anything with sugar in it. Including things like potatoes, pasta, white rice, bread. We don’t think of these as sugar, but they become glucose immediately in the blood stream. Apart from the impact on your teeth, white rice is no better for your body than haribo. As for ‘sugar free’, you should really be cooking and eating real foods that don’t have labels like sugar free on them at all. Eggs, cheese, butter, whole fat yogurt, even cream, beef, pork, chicken, and all vegetables that grow above the ground (ie not root vegetables), almonds, pecans. Fruit has loads of sugar in it too, so eat that very sparingly too - berries are best, tropical fruit are very high in sugar. You have to really watch sugar free or no added sugar in things, as if you look carefully they’ve added a load of other sugary stuff like apple pulp or date mush or some such, which isn’t sugar to the labelling authorities but is to your body.
If you "slim smart" weight loss is not so hard! It is not all about motivation and masochism.
Some of us here find that what works is a combination of The Low Carbohydrate, High-Fat (LCHF) diet (see the forum here on Health Unlocked) and Not Snacking All Day AKA Intermittent Fasting (IF). See:
hi and welcome an d weve had a few new people join in last few days so your not on your own. you will get lots of support on here especially if you join in a weigh day (will find them in events) i see youve calculated your allowance so that good eat to the topper end of it to start and than as loose got wiggle room to go down. take it one step at a time, cut out the trats and puds but allow yourself a little treat occasionally so dont feel missing everything more likely to stick to it then. best thing is fresh home made food from scratch. good luck
Thank you. I see your a fellow crafter too Yep I think im all set for tomorrow, I've joined the Sunday Weigh in and have my meal and calories all set out with quite a few extra remaining incase I need them. I only eat food from scratch so thats not a problem, its the naughty evening snacks that will be a challenge. So fingers crossed
yes do lots of crafts keeps my fingers busy, my latest craze is book folding and made a few bottle lights for xmas presents. cooking from scratch def best way you know what going in!!! good luck with the evenings though if kept few cals back should be ok just try to make them better snacks
