A success story... (33.5lbs (2st+) in 12 weeks)

Today was my final weigh in for the 12 week course. I went into this being sure id fail like I fail every diet, but hoping that I wouldn't.

You see, things usually go really well for a few weeks and then I struggle HARD, I fall off the weight loss wagon and end up feeling deprived and eating everything I would have eaten in the last few weeks - resulting in an overall gain rather than any kind of loss!

However, this was totally different. I didn't struggle in that first week, I just started by eating smaller portions, then over the 12 weeks I've tried to make healthier choices and started to walk more, it wasn't much due to pain, but it was more than usual.

Today I took that final weigh-in... I lost a total of 33.5lbs!! over 12 weeks, I am immensely proud and happy that I'm in a mindset that this journey will continue.

Over the 12 weeks I celebrated friends birthdays on days out, went out for meals, a night drinking, had the occasional take away and even went on holiday. In the whole 12 weeks, though all this, I only went over my 1400 daily calories once (by 40 cals). I never used the extra from the walking and I refused to be in the mindset of 'treating myself' when I was away.

I was happy, I was full and I can see a change in my family too. I'm not saying it wasn't hard, at times, it was, but it has changed my life.

This morning I've started the next 12 weeks, ready to again read each challenge and check i'm still doing it and then focus on the little celebrations that come along the way.

Good luck to all, you can totally 100% do this!

Hi and welcome, Kairismummy :)

I'm a little concerned that you're probably eating too little. The 1400 calories is a generic amount, unsuitable for most and eating too little will cause your body to lower it's metabolic rate, to ride out the perceived famine and your weight loss will probably stall. You should get a personal calorie range from the NHS BMI calculator, which will be much more sustainable. This will explain further healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh...

Hi, to be honest I just can't eat more, unless I fill those calories with Junk Food, which I do not wish to do.

The calories that the calculator is saying, is what I ate before I started the 12 weeks and that really wasn't letting me lose weight, in-fact the scales were going up each week! 1400 is working well for me, I've had a nice weight-loss every week for 12 weeks now, (33.5lbs in-fact) I'm not feeling hungry, low energy or starving myself.

However, I thank you for your advice.

Congrats on how far you've come Kairismummy! Great going!

If further down the line you find your weight loss diminishing or even stopping don't get upset and give up. It will likely be because you appear to be under eating and your body will have amended it's metabolism accordingly requiring less and less calories to function.

If you do reach that point let people know as there is a way of getting the body back to normal, it just takes time.

As for not being able to eat more, high density foods such as cheese, nuts, cream butter will soon whack the calorie intake up for little volume :)

Good luck!

Thank you, I will definitely reach out if I need to :) for now I’m comfortable with what I’m eating, but if that changes I’ll be straight here!

I think it might help you to eat more - as weight lost slowly is easier to keep off.

I can’t eat more. I’m honestly pushing myself to eat as much as I am. I always finish the day and then think I should eat at least 300-500 more calls.

You could eat more energy-dense food?

Great job on your weight loss. You did so well on how you did it I am curious why you are being told you should eat more?? Just wondering as it seems you have it all under control :)

Well done for a fantastic loss Kairismummy and for having such self discipline. As you say, this has not only changed your life but your family’s also. It is so important to set an example of healthy eating for your children so well done for this.

Try to stay as motivated for the next 12 weeks and all of these new habits should be embedded and remain with you for life. You may find that your weight loss will perhaps reduce over time and this is normal so don’t feel discouraged if this is the case. Between half a pound to two pounds per week is a healthy recommended amount. If you need help with weight completely stalling (mine used to not budge for weeks at a time), just ask forum members for strategies to help. Well done and congrats again. X

Completely! I can see the difference in my husband and children and it’s amazing. We eat so much better and want far less junk. I’d rather waste 250 calls on a small meal like home made fish and chips than on 25g of buttons! Ha

Thanks guys! I’ve just taken my 12 week progress photo and to say I’m shocked is an understatement.

I haven’t always had huge losses, a lot of weeks have been 1lb, but every pound is something and that kept me going.

I’m honestly in a different mindset this time and that’s really helped so much.

Thanks for all your lovely comments :) so glad to be part of this wonderful community.
