Last Monday I weighed 13 stone 3.0 pounds, and today I weigh 13 stone 5.8 pounds, so I've gained 2.8 pounds this week. The week started off well, and I was back on track with my healthy eating and exercise, and I was feeling good. However I ended up getting very wet on a walk, as it rained most of the time, and it was ages before I could get into dry clothes again, and I caught a chill and developed a chesty cough.
So since Tuesday I've been suffering from a chesty cough, and haven't been able to do any exercise whatsoever, and I've ended up 'comfort eating' as well, for the remainder of the week.
Doing this weigh-in today is the trigger for me to say 'Stop!' - I need to get back on track before I undo all my previous weight loss progress. I know I still don't feel well enough to exercise yet, but I can stop over-eating and get back to healthy foods again. So that's my aim for this week - and hopefully this chesty cough will eventually leave me alone as well. I know there are a lot of coughs and colds around at this time of year, so I'm not alone!
Please join me for this Monday weigh-in, and let me know how your week has been. Good luck with your weight loss goals, and I hope you've achieved them. My goal for this week is to lose something - I don't mind how much it is, anything would be good, as long as it's a loss.

Hi Lowcal it sounds like You are finding it hard to get back on track. I too am struggling to get my diet mind set back as life has been so interrupted lately from the normal routine. I hope you have a better week and that you will soon be well and able to start the walking again.
We have just had a week away with family. I am sure running around the granddaughters helps as I have lost 0.5lb this week. So pleased I hit my target despite the chocolate and pastries!
Hopefully now we are back in routine I can get properly focused. I weigh 12 stone 9.9lb today and want to be 12 stone by my birthday on July 3rd. That is a very realistic goal so here goes.
Hope you enjoyed your week away with family. It's brilliant that you've lost 0.5 pounds this week - Congratulations! Your granddaughters must have kept you busy.
Your goal weight for your Birthday in July sounds really good - a realistic goal and well paced.
I seem to have stalled at a new high weight-but at least stalled and not going up. Not sure what I am aiming for this week......Said goodbye to January will try to refocus.
Bad luck on your weight gain - I am sure when you feel better you will see those pounds off.
Glad to hear you're not giving up - I'm pleased to be saying 'Goodbye' to January, and am hoping February will be a good month! Like you say, chance to refocus and get back on track again.
Although you are at a new high weight, like you say, you've 'stalled' and soon you'll be moving forward again into weight losses.
Thanks for your kind words, and wishing you a good week ahead.
Hi Lowcal, hope you're feeling better now? It's horrible when you want to get out but you know you'll feel worse if you do! I'm sure when you've kicked the cold and the weather stops being so unkind, you'll lose the bit of weight you've gained this week.
I've also gained, last week I was 16st11&1/4 - this week I'm 16st11&5/8. I'm hoping that is it, but it has been a weekend of celebrations with my hubby's birthday followed by the birth of my first nephew so the number could go up before it goes down I'm going to weigh in again on Thurs just to see - I usually try to avoid weighing more than once a week as I think it can do more harm than good.
We've had snow and ice again which still hasn't fully gone away so my exercise is still a little curtailed but I intend to get back into c25k and graduate asap then start looking at local races.
Sorry for the epic!! Hope you and everyone else have a great week
No, I'm not feeling better yet - I've made an appointment with my GP as I'm a bit worried I might have a chest infection. Thanks very much for your encouraging words. Hopefully the GP will sort me out and I'll get better really soon. It has definitely got me down over this last week.
You've only had a very slight gain this week, and hopefully you'll cope ok with your hubby's Birthday and the birth of your first nephew (exciting news!!!) - enjoy your celebrations, and hopefully you can get back on track again afterwards.
Great that you've got lots of enthusiasm to get back into c25k - and I hope the weather will improve so that you can do that. Just imagine how great you'll feel when you graduate and all those local races you'll be able to participate in. Exciting!
Have a great week.
Lowcal
Hi Lowcal, joining you for the first time on a weigh-in. I just weighed myself at 12st 4lb, which is definitely way more than I would admit to anyone that I weigh. I'm only 5'4" and I know a max healthy weight for me would be 10st 7lb. But if I could at least lose 1 stone over next few months that would make an enormous difference. I'm combining a sensible approach to changing my diet (i.e. decreasing portion size) and the couch to 5k running plan (still at an early stage). But motivation is a massive factor - hope to find it here
I admire your attitude about getting back on track and not being defeated. Hope the chill/cold runs its course in as short a time as possible. I enjoy hot chicken style broth when I'm stuffed up like that (am veggie but use a chicken flavour stock), this is something you can have as much of as you like on a diet... hope that's a help of some sort.
A very warm welcome to you - you've made that first step of weighing, and you've made a good first goal to lose 1 stone over the next few months. You've also got a great plan. I agree with you that motivation is a massive factor, and it can wax and wane depending on circumstances, but hopefully the group support of a forum like this is helpful. Everyone here is massively supportive and many of us have been on an ongoing weight loss journey together. It's great to have you on board, and hopefully we'll be able to support each other.
Thanks so much for your suggestion to have some hot chicken style broth - it would be satisfying and filling. Delicious too. Thank you!
I hope your running plan goes well this week, and also the healthy eating and getting to grips with decreasing your portion sizes.
Wishing you a great first week, and will look forward to catching up with you at next week's weigh-in.
Hi lowcal, sorry to hear about your weight gain. I've managed to lose a pound this week which I am pleased about after sticking for a bit. I was really good with my calories at the start of the week, but it all went to pot later in the week. I've also been eating my exercise calories which will not be helping. Concentration needed this week as I am only about 3 pounds off my target, and I could lose that in a week if I try! On a good note, I have lost another 2cm off my waist which I think is probably due to the yoga class I've started going to. Good luck to everyone this week, and hope you feel better soon lowcal.
Congratulations to you on losing a pound this week - that's really great! Sounds like you've been on track for most of the week. I know you mentioned that it 'all went to pot' later in the week - but hopefully you are back on track again starting this week, so you'll hopefully keep up your progress. Like you say, you're only 3 pounds off your target. Fantastic that you've lost another 2cm off your waist. That yoga class sounds great. I hope you're enjoying it.
Wishing you another great week, and many thanks for your kind words.
Good morning Lowcal and all, well I started this diet when I weighed 15s 5lb and found this forum when I had reached 14s 13lb. Today, I weighed in at 14.9. A little disappointing as it is an increase on last week but I know it is my own fault, as having eaten properly and stuck to the diet all week, yesterday I weakened and had Sunday lunch followed by sponge wedding cake cooked by my god-daughter (and very good it was too). Do I regret it.. Yes. Is it going to get me down...NO. Back on the diet and hopefully next week will see me loosing a little more weight.
Keep up the determined attitude that you have Lowcal. Hope your health improves this week and next week we will both show an lose.
You are sounding motivated and positive, and that's brilliant! Your weight loss is progressing really well, and you've lost 4 pounds since joining the forum, and 10 pounds in total since the start of your journey. You're getting closer to a stone - really brilliant!
Glad to hear you're not going to let yesterday's meal get you down - it sounded delicious and your God-daughter obviously cooks great cakes, and one piece is hardly excessive. You've kept within your plan all week, and all credit to you!
Thanks so much for your encouraging words - yes, let's both look forward to a loss on the scales next week - I'm with you on that resolve!
Have a great week.
Lowcal
good morning Local, and all other here this cold Febuary morning, this will be the beginning of week 3 for me. starting weight 13 stone today 12 stone 5 lbs ...so that's good and a little surprising due to wine drinking on Friday, Saturday and sunday....good luck at the beginning of a whole new week and hope your chest infection clears up soon xxx
Wow, you're doing really well - Congratulations on your weight loss - I make that 9 pounds lost in total, at roughly 3 pounds per week - well done you!!!
Encouraging news to hear on a cold February morning, and hope you have another great week ahead.
Thanks for your kind words - I am hoping the GP will sort me out so I can get better soon.
Hope the cough soon clears up and you can get back on track, you will start to lose again real soon once it does?.
10st 10.25lb so not much of a loss. Bought new batteries for my scales as they were all over the place, I varied 3lb. in 1 minute ? so hoping they will settle down now. Still tracking everything on MyFitnessPal but realised I wasn't allowing for the amount of milk (skimmed) I was drinking in my coffee so I've added that in each day before I start with anything else. Back to making soups, I do double quantity so stocking up in the freezer and trying some new recipes but hubby isn't always keen - vegetable is his favourite and Turkey and noodle but I like to ring the changes - I get bored doing (and eating) the same ones over and over.
Had a bit of a blip this week as I went to a funeral and the 'tea' afterwards was all high calorie - no salad just pork pies, sandwiches etc. but fortunately there was no sweet stuff otherwise I wouldn't be signing in this morning ?. Also I made a small banana and caramel pizza with chocolate chips - only had a small piece but ended up eating the rest of the chocolate chips - not good.
Great that you've had a loss this week - that's great! I know you said it wasn't much of a loss, but in my book 'a loss is a loss' - it's a fact! Hope your scales settle down. Sounds like they were varying quite a bit.
Yes, the milk in coffee and tea does add up - it's great that you've realised you were missing tracking that, and at least now you can have more accurate results regarding your calorie intake.
Great that you're trying out new soup recipes. I think it's good to try different types. Like you say, freezing them means you can turn to the 'soup reserve' when you want to have something satisfying and filling.
Sorry to hear you had a funeral to attend this week - at least you didn't overdo it at the 'tea' afterwards - also, at least you only ate the remaining chocolate chips, and managed not to eat the whole banana and caramel pizza - it could have easily been the other way round.
Thanks for your kind words to me, I am hoping you're right that the weight will come off again fairly quickly once I get better. I am keen to curtail the 'comfort eating' as I definitely succumbed to that last week - it shocked me how easily I fell back into that old habit.
Hi Lowcal, winter is not our buddy when dieting. I understand your need for some comfort food these days if you are not feeling well. I hope you recover soon, xx
After a good week 4 my weigh-in today was a bit disappointing: -0.7 pounds, but on the bright side I can button up my jeans (which I couldn't last week). I think that my body weighs less on Wednesdays. Would it be cheating to swap my weigh-in day?
Thank you so much for your kind words. Much appreciated.
Congratulations to you for losing half a pound this week, that's really good - I know you said you felt a bit disappointed, but the fact is you have stuck to your plan and had a 'good week 4' and you can button up your jeans now, so you have changed measurements as well as lost some weight.
I think weigh-in days are very personal, and you should choose your weigh-in day to suit your own preferences - so I don't think it would be cheating to change to Wednesdays if that's the day you think would suit you best.
Thanks for the big hug, and hope you have another great week ahead.
So sorry to hear you have been poorley, there are a lot of colds about at the moment, my grandchildren seem to be passing it back and forth to one another. Glad your on the mend and ready to get back on track.
I have lost a pound this week so really pleased, I have lost 7 lbs over last 4 weeks and am so pleased I set to and got back to healthy eating. My start weight was 14.1 and I am now down to 13.8.
Hopeing for another good week next week, GOOD LUCK to you and everyone else. Hope you will feel better soon.
Thanks very much for your encouraging words. There are lots of people out there with colds, like you say, and hopefully we'll all feel better soon - especially once the weather improves. It will get better!
Congratulations to you on losing 1 pound this week - that's really great. Wow, you've lost half a stone in 4 weeks - really great progress.
Hey guys. I was 12 stone 8.4 last week and am now 12 stone 8.2. So I've lost 0.2 pounds which I'm really gutted with. I'm on the 5:2 diet and this week was the first one I've managed two fast days without going over the 500 calories, and eaten well on the surrounding non-fast days. I was on this week though, so thinking that's what's slowed me down. And hoping I lose this week. I'm desperate to be 12 stone 7 so going to try and up my game this week.
Look after yourself if you're not well, don't over eat but definitely don't exercise! I hope you feel better soon xx
Congratulations on losing 0.2 pound this week. I know you said you're 'gutted' with that loss, but I'm still going to congratulation you on it, as it's in the right direction and it's a loss! I think your period could have contributed to reducing the amount you would have lost, and that it will 'catch-up' over the following week, providing you keep on track. So just keep positive and keep going! I think you'll get to 12 stone 7 pounds for next week, all being well.
I will follow your advice not to exercise till I'm better, I know that wouldn't be a good thing to do. I'm off to my GP appointment now, so hopefully I'll have a better idea of whether I have got a chest infection or not, and might have some treatment.
Sorry to hear you've had a 'rubbish week' - and gained some weight. Hopefully next week will be better - and like you say, we can start afresh.
Have a great week ahead.
Lowcal
Poor you, that sounds tough! Glad you are keeping positive though. I put on a pound on Friday and felt very fed up, however someone noticed that I had lost weight which bucked me up. I'm trying to get below the 13 stone mark but it is always difficult for some reason to get to the stone below! Oh well, hope you feel better soon and I am sure the healthy eating will get you back on track even if you can't get out there and exercise! Have a good week.
It's great that someone noticed you had lost weight - and I'm glad that brightened up your mood after your Friday slight gain. I know what you mean about the elusive transition between stones - I'd been so excited to be getting closer to the 12's, but now they seem so much further away again.
But hopefully we'll get there in the end - just got to keep positive and keep going.
Wishing you a great week ahead, and thank you so much for your encouraging words to me.
Hi Lowcal, a bit disappointed this week as stayed the same weight, but will keep at it. I can not run or walk far so have looked at YouTube and found some armchair aerobics. Some are really energetic and got my heart rate up. My granddaughter laughed when I tried star jumps sitting down but she joins in with me and we had great fun. Hopefully a bit of exercise will help speed the weight loss. Let's see what next week brings. ☺️
Glad to hear you're going to keep at it - you've maintained your weight, and that's positive too - much better than a gain! Great to hear you've found some exercises that suit you - armchair aerobics sounds good - especially as they got your heart rate up and were energetic. Really great! Nice that your grand-daughter is also enjoying joining in with you on the star jumps.
This is my first ever post and I came here this morning to find encouragement as I've had my first 'bad week'. I'm sorry that it seems I'm not the only one, but in the same way we all just have to see it as a blip and move forward. The mistakes I've made this week are very much alcohol related following some bad news and a big blow out. But today is a new week! Trainers on, veg in the fridge and dreams of my beautiful wedding dress to get me through! I've gained a whooping 2 kilos this week which I am so ashamed about, but it just means I need to lose 3 this week to get me back on track!
A very warm welcome to you, and thanks for joining us for your first post. Hopefully we can give you some encouragement and support, as we're all on the same path towards hopeful weight loss.
Sorry to hear you've had some tough things to contend with this week, and hope that the week to come will be better - like you say, it's a 'new week' ahead. Great that you have such a motivating goal to reach - in terms of your forthcoming Wedding. Good luck with your goal for this week - have you seen the NHS website pages as they give lots of good advice and there's a 12 week structured plan if you think that might be something you'd like to try.
Shame about being poorly and weight gain. Just a temporary blip I am sure given your amazing achievement overall. Just take time to rediscover your motivation when you feel better - perhaps take a fresh look at routines and meals and inject something different in there to bring back the healthy eating mojo.
I have lost another 1lb this week - which is amazing given a few meals out and much reduced exercise opportunities due to our endless ongoing kitchen refurb. I have found I can leave food on my plate and actually register when I am full - which is very new to me - I just used to keep stuffing it in. The lack of a kitchen also means next to no snacking opportunities - and I have virtually given up grazing altogether. I am down to 12 St 1lb now - I just can't wait to get into the 11s. Good luck Low cal with your aim to lose anything at all and hope your cough improves. Good luck for the week ahead everyone!
Thanks very much for your encouraging words and advice. Really good. I think this time of being unwell is a good place to 'reflect' on healthy eating habits and practises that I need to get back to. I've been to the GP and I now know I have bronchitis, so I've got some antibiotics and some Ventolin, so hopefully both those things will help me to get better.
Congratulations to you on losing a pound this week - especially as you mentioned a few meals out and much reduced exercise opportunities due to your kitchen refurb. Hope it's going well.
Also great that you've given up grazing, and you can now feel full and stop eating at that point rather than carrying on. Wow, you're very close to the 11's now. That's exciting!
It can be a shock to be told you're in a particular weight category, and I hope you have got over that initial shock.
You are very welcome to join in this Monday weigh-in - have you seen the NHS website weight loss pages? They are great for advice and help with weight loss.
The people in this forum are also really encouraging and helpful.
Wishing you a good week ahead. Hope to catch up with you in future weigh-ins.
Have you read the NHS website weight loss pages? They are really good in terms of providing a structured 12 week programme which gives really good advice and ideas to help with your weight loss journey. Definitely worth a read.
Setting goals to work towards can be really helpful.
Hope you have a good week, and will look forward to seeing you at future weigh-ins.
I am sorry to hear you have not been feeling well Lowcal and hope that you do feel better soon.
I weighed myself today at 12stone 11.5 lbs which is a 3.5lb weight loss over 2 weeks. For me the real achievement is not drinking red wine last week as it is my down fall. 1 glass leads to 2 and then my will power disappears and as I am a constant grazer anything is fair gain. This week I am aiming to tackle portion control and as I have back problems stick to the exercise routine and enjoy the process.
I realise that to loose weight and keep it off, I have to stick to the plan and embrace it and make it part of my everyday life and get well soon Lowcal.
Congratulations to you for your 3.5 pound loss over 2 weeks - that's really great. Well done also for not drinking red wine last week - sounds like you've been really successful with your goal. Really good.
You've set yourself another goal for this week, and best of luck with tackling the portion control, and also sticking to your exercise routine. I hope you enjoy the process.
You're right - it's a big thing to incorporate positive changes into your life, but making them part of your lifestyle means it will enable you to live a healthier and hopefully more enjoyable lifestyle.
I have started taking antibiotics as of lunchtime, so I am hoping they will start working soon. I think it might take a few days, but then I'll be on the mend, all being well.
Back luck with the cough and on the weight gain: it really can be difficult, especially if you're in for the long haul. Well done for deciding to take control though: I can hear the determination in your post.
I was right not to trust the scales last week, I've actually gained 1lb over the last 2 weeks.. I've been doing a lot of comfort eating recently, I've stopped logging my calories, the marathon training is exhausting and my heart's just not really in it right now. Urgh! Sorry this is a moody post. My goal for this week is to reflect on what "looking after my needs" really means: emotional and physical.
Good luck to all for the week ahead. Blast the cold weather!!
Thanks for your kind words. I do think it feels more challenging regarding being in it for the 'long haul' - definitely! But yes, I am feeling some determination - I feel much better mood wise today than I did for much of last week. I think it helps to have got some antibiotics as I have more 'hope' now that I'll hopefully get better again soon. I was getting a bit down, especially over the weekend.
Sounds like you've been doing some comfort eating too lately, and it's shown as a gain on the scales - but thankfully not too much weight - a pound over 2 weeks isn't very much, so don't be too hard on yourself.
You're entitled to a 'moody post' - better out than in is what I say!
Good luck with your week of reflection and I hope you find it useful to think about what "looking after your needs" really means - both emotionally and physically. That's food for thought - and hopefully of the non-calorific type!
Let's hope this cold weather leaves us alone soon - and we can get some lovely Spring sunshine and lots of daffodils!
So sorry to hear you've been so unwell - I hope you feel better soon. I think we can all be guilty of a little comfort eating when we're poorly - anything to make you feel better. I'm sure once you're back to full strength the losses will continue. Can't weigh-in this week which is so frustrating - need new lithium batteries for my scales and forgot to get any at the weekend. If I can get some in the next couple of days I may just weigh-in late otherwise will wait for next Monday.
Thanks very much for your encouraging words - they are much appreciated. Glad you joined us today, even though you haven't actually been able to weigh due to the lack of batteries - hope you are able to get some soon.
sorry you are feeling poorly this week and hope doctor visit proves helpful. its miserable for you . i posted my weight this morning but thanks for pointing out in the wrong place. i weighed 13stone 10 lbs, so lost 2lbs which im pleased about. managed to resist glass of wine tonight which was a challenge, out tomorrow night so must try not to overdo food or drnk. take care sidcup 1 xxx
Great to see you again! Glad you made it to the current post - and thanks for re-posting your brilliant weight loss - 2 pounds in a week is really great. Congratulations!
Thanks so much for your kind words - my doctor's visit went well - she diagnosed Bronchitis and bacterial chest infection and so I've got some antibiotics and Ventolin, so that should hopefully help to sort it out. I feel hopeful that I'll feel better soon.
Hope you have an enjoyable night out tonight (Tuesday), and that you achieve your aims not to overdo it with the food or drink. Good luck!
Thanks so much! Yes, I hope to be back to my normal self again soon - it was useful to see the GP - got antibiotics and Ventolin now, so those should help.
Hope you're doing ok this week, and wishing you a good week ahead.
Glad to hear the GP visit was worth it. Hopefully they're just have started kicking in.
I had my foot operation last week so not really behaving. It's been interesting with my Husband cooking - delicious meals and sensible portion sizes unlike the huge ones I do. I will have to carry on with his good work.
I think the antibiotics are beginning to work, so that's good.
Glad your husband is looking after you and cooking some delicious meals with sensible portion sizes. Hope you're feeling reasonably ok after your foot operation. Be a good patient and recuperate well.
My husband has also been looking after me, which is nice. But he had been buying us a few 'treats' here and there - which happened more last week and over the weekend, hence my ability to comfort eat readily. But we're cutting back on such things this week - so hoping I might have lost something by next Monday's weigh-in.
I know just how you feel this week as I occasionally suffer from chronic headaches and after the third day I too resorted to comfort eating and ate junk instead of dinner! I gained half a pound this week but not feeling too bad about it as it's the first gain I've had in 2 months and I knew it was coming and I had still managed a good amount of exercise.
Back on the healthy eating this week though and hopefully that half a pound will be long gone!
Hope you manage to kicked your cough soon, feel better!
Sorry to hear you've suffered some chronic headaches and ended up comfort eating - it's only too easy to fall back into bad habits sometimes.
You've been doing really well - no gains in two months till now, and only a half pound gain this week - like others have rightly pointed out to me, it's a blip and hopefully you'll soon iron it out. That half pound should soon be long gone again.
Thanks for your kind words, and hope you have a great week ahead.
I'm better late than never this week! I kept forgetting to weigh the past 2 mornings and only remembered this morning as I was about to walk out the door for work! I didn't want to skip the weigh in altogether as I wanted to keep on track!
I'm so sorry to hear you haven't been well! I hate feeling rotten. It does make you want to comfort eat and forget about the exercise! I hope you're back to 100% soon!
As for me, yet another week stuck at the same weight. Just can't seem to drop that first lb to get me back into the swing of things. At this rate I'll still be at 12st 11lbs instead of my goal of 12st for my birthday in July. I notice I have a little more time than Pog1 with my birthday being on the 17th. I will do my best to start shifting this week! I've been stuck in a rut long enough!
Hopefully, on Mondays weigh in I will be telling you all I have at least lost 1lb!
Great to see you - and thanks for your kind words - I think the antibiotics are beginning to work, which is great. I can't wait to get back to normal activities and I realise I miss exercising - it had become a part of my routine, especially the walks. Never mind, it is incredibly cold outside, so best to be warm and cosy indoors. I've got period pains as well at the moment, so I'm turning to some pain relief as well - hopefully this time next week I'll be back to normal again. That would be sooooo great! At least I've stopped myself comfort eating - and there aren't any compromising foods currently in the house, so I should be ok.
At least you've maintained your weight, and not gained anything. You've still got plenty of time till July to achieve your goal, and you sound motivated to get back on track and 'start shifting' this week - so fingers crossed that you'll achieve your goal to lose at least 1 pound this week. Good luck!
