How To End A Diet?

I've been dieting for a few months now after I was diagnosed as "insulin resistant". I basically went on a 5:2 Diet with a low carb bias and radically increased my level of exercise.

It's all worked pretty well and I'm now approaching my target weight.

However, I'm conscious that only a depressingly small percentage of dieters manage to hold on to their weight loss for more than a year or two. So has anyone got any advice?

How should I go about ending my diet so as to maximise my chances of staying at my target weight?

I think the simplest answer is it's not a "diet" it's a lifestyle.... Having lost 25kg/4st eating LCHF my body "decided" where it wanted to be unless I started starving myself (which didn't take my fancy). I was sticking to 30-40 carbs a day when losing weight but now don't worry about up to 100 or so ... and I've stayed +/- 2lbs of 10st since January. If weight goes too far in wrong direction I'll just go stricter again to correct it (e.g. cut out some beers!) :)

Hello and welcome to the Weight Loss Forum Chappychap 😊

Very well done on your weight loss success, please don’t underestimate the changes you have made, your appetite and taste preferences will undoubtedly have changed which will help with maintaining. But as cherritorrox says, it has to be a lifestyle choice, the changes you’ve made will need to continue. Many followers of the 5:2 reduce to 6:1 and find that’s enough for maintaince. The scales and your clothes will soon let you know. But many of us do succeed in maintaining, I’ve been almost 4 years on my own weight loss journey.

We also have a Monthly Maintainers Club which you will find in Pinned Posts. You will have been given links to our Pinned Posts in your Welcome message when you first joined, please read them carefully, especially the Welcome Newbies and the Security Post. (I notice your post is unlocked)

This is a very busy forum with lots going on but feel free to ask if you have any questions. 😊

Best Wishes

Indigo 😊
