Hi, Samwood83 , Welcome.

Put your 8-year-old in charge of your weight loss program!

Many of us here find that what works is a combination of The Low Carbohydrate, High-Fat (LCHF) diet (see the forum here on Health Unlocked) and Not Eating All Day AKA Intermittent Fasting (IF). See:

I joined a gym....before you scroll....not a gym with mirrors and ripped young 20 somethings. Mine happens to be called DVCC but I'm sure there will be something in your area similar. We do warm ups then quite intense floor exercises, you are under no peer pressure in your team unless you want to be. It is hard work and you will know it after for a few days. I am obviously the newbie but you hear other members stories and I know I am not anywhere near the worst example to walk through the door. If you do this it gets less painful and you WILL make beneficial lifestyle changes back in you real world. Google DVCC to see what I mean. It does work I've been a member for only a month and have lost 4kg. Not a lot but a lot for me who has been a steady 96kg for years. Try it mate.
