I love my WOL!

Just finished my last round of exercise and feeling super positive today so I wanted to come share!

I lost another 2lb this week taking my total loss to 4 stone 4lbs. And it feels so easy! Sorry! That's perhaps not what people want to -or expect to hear! But I love my routine, I love the meals I cook - I prefer to eat my food than eat out. I love running three times a week even when sometimes my legs feel like lead! I love doing aerobics for 15 mins every morning. Sure, the temptation is there to stay in bed but my body really loves the stretching and moving! My youngest loves going to the park and us playing spies (we try not to be seen by people so involves a lot of running, ducking and hiding - great exercise!).

I don't like to post WHAT I eat on here because a lot of people have opinions about too much fat, sugar, carbs and healthy eating. I am afraid I don't fit into the category of healthy eater! I eat a lot of chocolate and "junk". But I'm losing weight AND fat without restrictions. The only restrictions I have is quantity. So long as I eat in my calorie range and exercise (currently about ten hours a week). When I first started dieting I lost one stone in six months (well, kinda went up and down between 15st 6 and 14st 6. In October I began exercising so the other 3st 4lbs has been in seven months.

So anyways, I wanted to come share my success and hope anybody looking for hope sees my post and knows it CAN be done! And if you find a combo that works for you and doesn't feel like a chore in your daily life then your on to a winner! If your current diet/exercise does feel like a struggle then I would say try something new! If it feels easy then time will fly and the weight will fall!

😊😊😊Good luck to you all!! 😊😊😊

What a great post CrimsonMama - I have been contributing to another forum today on weight loss about how one feels when one is succeeding and when everything is going right!

I have tried all sorts of ways to assist with my measly allowance and I agree that you need to find a way that works for YOU! And there is no harm in mixing and chopping and changing. I've been on this journey for over 7 years now, so need to keep it varied/interesting - and I thing that the body needs to have change every now and again.

I've used 5:2 which was great short term, the 8 week Blood Sugar Diet (which was absolutely brilliant to dump some weight that I'd piled on after too many holidays.

Unfortunately because of my disability, I can't rely too much on exercise to help with my weight loss (although I do exercise each day).

The way that I've settled on is to eat just two meals a day which are lunch and dinner. I have around 300 calories for lunch, about 150-200 for drinks, 400-500 for dinner. Then I have a few left for a snack (if needed). I have also reduced some of the calorific things like pasta / bread / rice. I still eat these, but perhaps just 1/2 times a week? I replace these filling and satisfying food with lower calorie and healthier alternative - vegetables! We eat around 7 portions of veg a day. I used mashed swede and carrot a lot, also stir-fried leek and cabbage. We love roasted Mediterranean vegetables. I absolutely LOVE vegetables, so this is easy for me.

Every lunch is either a home made or shop bought fresh soup. Usually vegetable or beans in it. I have salmon, ham, chicken with the salad. Also a big portion of beetroot. I have a big blob of home made tzatziki (full fat Greek yogurt, garlic, lemon juice, olive oil, grated and strained cucumber). The tzatziki really helps make the meal flavoursome and to keep me feeling full.

I don't really talk to anyone about weight loss unless they instigate it - but I do have a lot of interest from other disabled friends and colleagues who really struggle with weight loss and have been impressed that I lost the weight I have - but also managed to keep it off long term.

The truth is, I can never go back to how I once ate and what I once ate - both in terms of quantity and quality!

The time that it became easier for me was once I accepted that this was my new way of life and that it was forever. It's my choice - but I am enjoying the benefits, both in terms of the weight I was lugging about, improved health and mobility, my skin/hair is in great condition... and I seem to have sailed through the menopause (I think!)

When something changes in the way one approaches the weight loss (ie, starts to enjoy the huge benefits), then suddenly it gets to a point where the benefits outweigh the mourning for the way that we used to eat. We start to understand that the over-indulgence is pretty enjoyable at the time but that we don't really like the things that go with it - the weight gain, the bloating, feeling stuffed, dreading getting onto the scales, going clothes shopping.

I used to really, REALLY resent not having a dessert when everyone else did. But now that's just what I do - and no longer even give it that much thought. I know that often the THOUGHT of the dessert is nicer than whatever dessert it is. I sometimes have a tiny taste of someone elses - that usually confirms that I was right not to bother!

It does get easier the longer one is on their journey... so glad that you have found a way that you are enjoying and that works for you!

Very interesting! Although we have some differences I too started with the 5:2. And although I am happy with my current plan I know I have different tools/options to suit different events.

When I had a leg injury and couldn't do the majority of exercises I do which all involve legs (walking, cycling, treadmill, running) I did find some sitting in bed routines online and swimming. And whatever disability someone has I am sure there is some aerobics that can be adapted. Any sort of moving is good!

Ha and you are so right about desserts! I work in a care home and serve the lunch time meals. Staff are allowed to have anything left over and I used to eat far too many of the desserts! Now I resist almost all easily but there is a handful that I really love. It was actually my mum that suggested this tip but now I just have a teaspoon full if I can't resist. Just that mouthful takes away that feeling of being deprived and weirdly I feel the same afterwards as if I had a whole portion. I can almost just trick my brain into saying I DID have the dessert so now move on and get back to work! Lol
