It’s difficult, I’ve adjusted my diet, lost 2 stone in weight and my cholesterol level have increased. I also didn’t want to go onto statins but have done so to see if it kick starts my body into reducing the levels. Will review with gp in 6 weeks. My family has a history of heart probs and annurisims, so one pill now to avoid loads later?

Hmmm, difficult to go against doctor's advice, but why don't you ask whether it would be okay to try and reduce your levels over the next 3 months and then be retested. I am trying out those little plant sterol drinks for the same reason at the moment. Can't tell you whether they are working as I don't know whether my cholesterol levels have reduced. BP was better after the first bad result on second reading a couple of weeks later - but I did not drink my morning coffee the second day.
