My blood pressure is around 112/70. My cholesterol is 5.3 total. I'm thinking the keto diet might not be good for the latter seeing as all dairy products and meat are allowed so I'm going for fish, vegetables and fruit. Interested also to see that a glass of red wine and dark chocolate (85% cocoa) actually act as antitoxidents. I'm disinclined to increase the statin intake and have suggested to the practice nurse that we test again in three months time to give me time to adjust my diet to suit. Anyone else any experience of a similar situation? I exercise three times a week, half an hour in the gym followed by ten lengths in the pool.

Thanks for that. Cholesterol is my only problem and I have researched but there is so much conflicting information out there. I kicked the pre diabetes into touch and am determined to do the same with this.
Good to hear you got rid of the diabetes. I'd say stick with the same plan you used to do that. The last of the three links I've given you is specifically about women and statins
Low carb now plus low fat - which I didn't do before though judging by the links you've sent me and my own research it seems to me that there is a concoction of risks and the only one that applies to me is cholesterol. None of the other risk factors apply in my case. Incidentally, my husband was on statins but had to stop them because of muscle pain - a big no no when you also suffer from arthritis. So for twenty years he did without. He died from peritoneal mesothelioma - caused by working with asbestos many years ago. I have read the coroners report. No heart, liver (a litre of wine and five or more g and ts per night man), lung or kidney problems. No blocked arteries! So I feel I have to take a balanced view. Now off to gym. Thanks for your referrals.
Please please please don't attempt to do low-carb and low-fat. That basically amount to "not eating" - or at best, nothing but protein as a source of energy, which has nothing to recommend it (humans aren't felidae).
If you have nothing actually wrong with you apart from "high cholesterol" - and in fact you don't, because 5.3 is a historically normal average for older people - then I'd suggest you just stop worrying and enjoy your food
I was determined not to go on a higher dose of statin. All I've actually done is to cut down on dairy and meat, increased fish, veg and fruit, and eating rye bread - which I love - along with dark chocolate and a glass or two of red wine with my dinner. Thanks for your advice.
