Iβm a 28 year old female (Height; 5β4, CW: 11 stone 3) and my weight loss journey is as follows;
-Have lost roughly 2 stone since March
-Would like to lose 10lb more if possible
-Have cultivated good healthy eating habits but also allow myself treats
-Have fallen in love with running and completed my first half marathon in September
-Resolution is to complete 3 half marathons next year
-Have recently started working on getting stronger and more toned through gym classes
-Have recently started calorie counting to try and push through my weight loss plateau
My current problem is I LOVE FOOD. Adopting healthy eating habits has not been so hard for me as I genuinely love healthy foods (but also LOVE bad foods!) I am largely pescatarian now when I cook for myself but am eating meat when eating out or visiting friends and family.
I can generally avoid unhealthy foods day to day by preparing my meals. However, I still struggle with portion control and am particularly struggling lately with feeling like Iβm missing out on wonderful treats with all my favourite foods on offer- bread, cheese, cured meats!! π π§ππ
I suppose I would like to hear how others overcome this. I would also like to know how others are planning their eating around the Christmas break?
Would love to hear from you.

Welcome Jommo you will find lots of support here. I have recently taken to running but I am at the 5K level not half marathon - that is amazing.

Jommo , that's so impressive, you've really turned things round and achieved so much this year so well done you - I hope you've said that to yourself!
I don't know if we ever lose the taste for foods that can work against us, do we? I'm only 8 weeks into this and am happy with a slow and steady weight loss but if you put a big hunky loaf of bread in front of me and a chunk of red Leicester or tasty Lancashire, there'd be no stopping me! I suppose it all comes down to quantity. A couple of slices, fine, half a loaf, erm .... not so fine.
For me, it's all down to planning, then doing my best to stick to my plan. I live by myself and haven't got loads of Christmassy things to get involved in so not too much temptation in my way. I just have to accept that I'll regret the results more than I'll enjoy the short term treat. But I'll make sure I have some extras so I don't feel deprived; will just build them into my weekly calorie allowance - at least that's the plan
Apologies for my late reply. Really appreciate your response and your encouragement. Youβve made me realise that I should be be proud of myself-so thank you!
Youβre right- for me, planning is also the best way for me to avoid unnecessary treats. However, Iβm trying not to be too hard on myself when I do enjoy the odd mince pie or slice of cake. It is difficult though, as I think I am very much 100% or nothing type person-so what Iβm trying to learn now is moderation.
Hi jommo, I really connected to what you said about food I love my food too especially I just gave up smoking so I still got this hand mouth thing happening. For me it's about keeping busy at first I used to write a list of things to do for the day but then that sort of became like chores so now I have a piece of paper that's empty in the morning and my goal is to fill it up by the end of the day that way there's no obligation for me to have to do anything but there's incentive for me to fill my page with everything and a part of that is not to have 3 meals a day but to have 6 small snacks a day instead this way I'm still getting my hand mouth and feeling like I'm being rewarded but I'm not filling up to much and if I'm hungry a glass of water tends to satisfy that anyway thanks heaps for your share wish you all the luck in the future.
I totally get this- I just always want to be eating! I have always been a big tea and coffee drinker though and thankfully this somewhat fills the gap when I would want to eat something. I also have lots of snacks during the day to fill the time between meals. I can also usually never allow myself to get too hungry- otherwise I know Iβll just eat huge portions!
Good on you Jommo it sounds like you've given everything a lot of thought. it also really sounds like you know your own body really well! Cups of tea are my favourite too. Although lately I have been taking a little bit more to the water, not only does it give my insides a good wash but it fills me up as well. Wishing you and your family a wonderful Christmas tomorrow. πΈ
