I’m just about to embark on the NHS 12 week guide in a bid to get my weight loss journey going.
This time last year I was approx. a stone and a half lighter and running 3x a week. Since October, I’ve struggled with my mental health which has impacted on my eating habits (I’ve become a binge eater) and my motivation to exercise has become non-existent. Lockdown has only made these existing problems worse.
I’ve tried all sorts. Slimming World, Weight Watchers, The Body Coach etc. Of course they all work initially but I think they’ve contributed to my binge eating from having to eliminate certain foods rather than learning to eat them in moderation.
I’ve downloaded the Nutricheck and C25K app, set my calories to 1400 and started planning tomorrow’s meals.
At 5’3 and 11st 3lbs, I need to be losing about 2 stone to get into a healthy BMI range. It feels like a tall order at the moment! 😬
It's true that there appear to be foods to limit (but still to occasionally enjoy) and those that can be daily staples. A diet should be enjoyable and able to reduce hunger to be sustainable.
Hello and welcome Hidden I feel your pain, so many of us have struggled with lockdown, you are not alone. But very well done for tackling the issue 😊👍👏
Whilst some knowledge of calories and portion size is important, food quality is too. This is especially so for good healthy fat that is an essential nutrient and really good for keeping you full for longer. It’s also really good for beating sugar cravings, binge eating and other emotional eating habits.

Start with a small goal and see how you feel when you reach that. 2st may be daunting but 7lb looks more achievable. Once you’ve lost that initial weight then you can decide where you next goal is.
I need to lose 7st in total but my first goal is 1st9lb which takes my BMI to under 40. I’ve lost 1st 5lb since lockdown started so nearly there.
