mentally preparing for this life change (healthy eating)!!

hi all, I have recently quit smoking on November 20th, I'm 16 days in. Well needless to say, I've packed on some more lbs. I'm only 5' tall and weigh a whopping 172 lbs. My goal is to extend this life change to include a healthy diet when I hit 30 days of being smoke free. I don't want to overwhelm myself because I know I will have fast food and sugar withdrawal. So I decided to join this forum for support!

Write a brief note to introduce yourself to other newbies and I'm sure you'll be making friends, in no time.

Good luck with your first week.

Nothing like giving yourself a challenge!!! Well done - and for avoiding the New Years Resolutions pressure on top!! I'm only 5'2" so know how it is to carry extra weight - albeit only a bit. Giving up smoking must be the hardest thing ever - even when you are aware of all the health risks. This forum is a great place to start and to come to for support. so welcome!! and Good luck!

Totally agree Russet, I'm just 5'2" as well so it's especially hard for us carrying the extra weight, (I was 5'4" but have lost 2 " due to osteop, I said that I lost 2" and put on 2st.) This forum is great for support of all kinds.

Congratulations on quitting. I did it 12 years ago after 50 years of addiction and know it is the hardest battle you'll ever fight . It takes a while to be truly free but stick with it. It's worth the effort. Good luck too with your weight loss. Just take it steady, make small changes, set yourself small achievable goals , stay in touch with the forum and you'll get there. You're fighting on two fronts so take it slowly. You know what they say, ' Slow and steady wins the race '. 👍

Hi and welcome, BobbyJ01 :)

As IndigoBlue61 has said, I quit smoking and started here, at the same time. I had done one, or the other, in the past, so quit the cigs and gained 4 stone!! Quit the junk food and started chain smoking!! This time, my quest was for a healthy lifestyle, so I quit the two things that were killing me, at the same time!

I have to say, it was no more difficult than doing one at a time and I didn't give myself problems that would need redressing in the future! If you're going to suffer withdrawal, you're as well getting it over and done with, at the same time.

I quit both, cold turkey, so no patches, gum, or vaping and no gradual reduction of sugar to sugar substitutes, just bye bye to both :)

This amazing community supported me through it all! I'd never have managed it without everyone's help and I'm so grateful to them. I hope that you'll find the same.

Onwards and downwards and NOPE!! :)

Moreless I though my 2 st was hard to get over but your 4st beats mine hands down! I did patches and the wee white thingy, so well done you for going cold turkey!

Well done, I put on 2 stones after I stopped smoking last December but I'm on here now and so far have lost 7lbs, since the beginning of November! I'll be rooting for you every step of the way... And you're absolutely right don't overload yourself and try to do all things at the one time. I've taken to lots of walking and if I'd tried doing that when I stopped smoking I probably wouldn't have palked on all those lbs. I do a lot of moving about these days and try not to sit still for very long, so maybe that'd work for you too? Best of luck with your new challenges!

Good luck to you!!
