The only way to do it is healthy eating and exercise it has to be a way of life everyone need the odd treat at weekend and you can do this if you are good all week what dose anyone else think

I have been doing this since the beginning of the year, strict in the week and relaxed at weekends, and have lost 3.5 stone

If you read my profile you'll see that I'm huge advocate of eating for health not for weight loss, from my own years of experience the only way personally that I have been successful (to date) is by eating a healthy well balanced portion controlled diet.

You sound like you have got the right frame of mind. Its not a diet it is a new way of living, so you need to find a way to make it something you can keep doing from now on.

I've followed the same plan more or less, being stricter in the week and then more relaxed about my diet in the weekend along. Of course if it happens that I meet up with friends for a meal on a week night then I accept that it will be a higher calorie day. Whatever the day of the week I just try to make healthy choices as much as I can, but I knew from the start that I needed to allow myself to have days where I went over the calorie limit (e.g. to go out for a pizza and wine). It all averages out over the week, so as long as your higher calorie days don't cancel out the calorie deficit on the stricter days you still lose weight and can feel like you are free to enjoy life without guilty feelings :) I assume that is what most "skinny" people do. My friends who stay normal weight certainly have as much as me when we eat out together, so they must balance it out with eating less at other times.

This strategy has worked for me, I've lost about 25kg (4stone) in the last year and am down from being obese to more or less a healthy BMI. I hope that in 5 years time I'll still be able to say the same as I don't plan on going back to my old habits any time soon!

I don't do 'diets' - I have completely changed my way of eating, added in walking further and faster each day - I feel better about myself, I'm healthier, happier - and I know I can sustain this way of life indefinitely. As far as eating is concerned - I eat what I want, when I want - but I don't eat too much of it and I keep within my calorie allowance.
