Thank you Melhall. Feels like a hard slog, but worth it when you get to weigh-in.

Hi all

Is everybody else feeling the pressure to be as restrained as possible so they can enjoy Christmas without doing too much damage?

This is my first proper consistent attempt at losing weight and getting fit. My partner Clive is on this journey with me

I have to admit to being a bit obsessive in my recording! I have WW online app, NHS 12 week plan app, have just got My Fitness Pal app and my partner also keeps a spreadsheet of my daily calories!

We’ve been at this since April this year. While I had lost 12lb by early November, he’d lost about 40lb. I was very despondent at my lack of progress. I know it’s easier for men, but even so ....... He is also much more disciplined than I am. I think that is the key.

We bought a cross trainer in May. He was doing it virtually every day. I was doing two or three days on then a day off. I was also less stringent about my diet than he is.

So, (this is turning into an essay!) he said to me “I’ll take over your diet and exercise and if you haven’t lost any more weight in a week, you can have back control”. I agreed. In the first week I’d lost 3 lb (I had lost no weight for the previous three weeks). This was in early November. Remember I had lost 12 lb? I have now lost 22 lb! Clive, has lost an incredible 52 lb!

So Clive is now my coach. I have to say that I am quite surprised at how few calories we can eat without feeling hungry. If I do feel hungry, I eat fruit. But going back to the beginning of my post, I am feeling the pressure of Christmas looming. Because we plan to enjoy it and go off piste, as it were, for a few days, we’re trying to be as disciplined as possible until the day.

I must say it’s difficult, with all the goodies on the supermarket shelves!

Brilliant to have your own personal trainer well done 👍

Well done. I am on a mission to try and improve my fitness levels and lose weight but I am a terrible comfort eater especially at night. Your post really inspires me but I am nearly 62 and find it really difficult but my health is starting to suffer. Thank you for your inspiration and well done for your achievement

Hi vanessaburton1956.

Thank you for your kind words.

I’m not much younger than you (55). It is hard work in that you have to be aware of your intake all the time. It’s not all plain sailing. We let it go for Christmas and I gained 3lb. Not too bad, right? Except I found it very hard getting back on the wagon. I’ve only today gone below my pre Christmas weight, which feels great, but did take me so long to make up the lost ground. But there’s only one way to do it. Just keep plodding. Really want to be slim for my wedding next year. Feeling more confident now!

So I guess I’m saying if I can do it, so can you. It is harder as you get older, but absolutely do-able. Keep at it and be kind to yourself. Let us know how you get on
