Hi, my name is Suzie, I’m quite a bit over weight and finding it hard to lose weight as I’m on steroids and other medications, but have tried the usual clubs, really extreme diets, so was hoping to see if joining this group would help my BMI is very high, but don’t think I could go down the surgery route, just because I’ve heard it isn’t pleasant. Any help would be appreciated I need to lose about 7 1/2 stone in total.

Thank you, the weight tip is very helpful as looking at it the way I was seemed a nightmare
Hello Suzie59
I understand what your struggle is I have weight problem I’m 3 stone over weight which doesn’t seem much but when your 4feet 11inches it’s not good I take a lot of weight gaining meds’ which I have to take for life so losing weight is an up hill struggle
It would be nice to have someone who understands
Hi, yes my medication is for life as well, which sometimes can be a nightmare, but it has to be onwards and upwards and try not to let it become an issue. I hope you are winning, I can't do much yet as after visiting nurse today she said I need to speak to a GP before doing anything, but will cut down and eat more veg etc
Yes I have acute Arthritis and I’m on some very powerful drugs to keep it at bay but they lower my immune system and being over weight isn’t helping I have Pre-onset diabetes now but waiting for a year for some one to help me but I’ve had a Berievment this year I’ve moved so at new Drs so fingers crossed
hi suzie and welcome! I don't know how much 7 stone is ( I have looked it up but my math skills are the pits!) I am from Texas so I know I have to lose at least 100 pounds. I have been to this forum several times and it does work if you work it. my big thing now is portion control. being from Texas, everything is bigger including the portions of mostly unhealthy foods. I use smaller plates and load them up with veggies first then meat and starches 2nd and 3rd. it works good as I have lost 8 pounds in 3 weeks. well, I say it does work for me. I cannot exercise much either as I have a bum leg so right now I am concentrating on food and portions. I wish you all the luck and chin up! we can do this!
You don't appear to have a 7lb (8lb) badge. Assuming you would like one, so just tagging YellowRose55 as you may have slipped through the cracks. Easily happens as there's a lot of admin to deal with.
You're doing really well.
Hi, I think it's roughly 105 pounds, but been told by nurse at the surgery to check with Dr before I start anything due to medication etc. So have appointment next week, but will increase veggies etc and eat less meat that can't be a problem I'm sure. Good luck to you as well on your journey, your doing well, we were in Florida in the summer and could never get through their potions.
thanks for the encouragement! I am not sure how to tag someone tho
Hi Suzie I am Marion and on week 5 of this journey and it is the best move I have made. Have a look at the NEWBIE CLUB it will get you on the right track. People on this forum are very friendly and we all support each other.
As Yellowrose55 says break your 7st 7lb down into smaller numbers (I break mine down to 3 or 4lb in a go and it is amazing the feeling you get at each drop).
I wish you all the best for this new start.x
Hi Marion
3 or 4 lb drops yes that seem more achievable I might try that . In passed attempt s I’ve found it very frustrating when the scales don’t move, Then eaten loads I don’t need, Back to square one again.
Yes your so right. I used to do that, but since joining this forum I have been determined to win. I also have found as time has gone by taking my waist measurement on a weekly basis helps when the lbs aren't co-operating.
Have you joined one of the weigh in's?
I am concentrating on a bit more exercise now too.x
Hi, I've been advised to wait until I've had the ok from my GP due to other health problems, but I've decided to cut back on meat & sauces etc until I see her. But will do what you suggest as it must make u feel better if the pounds are not playing fair 😀
Please do take advice of your GP as everyone is different and when I started this journey I was unwell and taking antibiotics for a chest infection. Listen to your body and only do what you can.
Hope you have a good week.x
Hello Marion .
I weighed myself Monday morning and entered it on the nhs page where they show 12 week sections, is this what you mean or is there another way I haven’t yet discovered, I’m still a bit of a novice on my iPad.I shalll weigh again next Monday.
Any ideas how to keep warm
I’ve got so many layers on feel like Michelin woman...
Hi Lilly if you click on home at top of page then posts on right hand side. It shows daily diary, daily weigh ins and what's happening pages. If you click the weigh in for the day that suits you, you can do it each week and it will be recorded there. I am on the Sunday weigh in.
I hope this helps. If not go back to the NEWBIE CLUB page and all information is on there with the links needed. Just take a little time to take it all in and keep in touch.x
Hi Suzie I'm on steroids and had years of taking large quantities of drugs for rheumatoid arthritis. I'm on just steroids permanently now having increased my exercises and practicing a vegetarian diet which helps me reduce from 14 tablets per day to just one. I have to take additional meds in between for other reasons but not long term like before. I find my weight loss is slower than normal due to the side effects of the medication I currently take due to the way the drugs, particularly the steroids hold water. However, when I'm determined, which is 90 p.cent of the time, I succeed. I go by a target of half a pound a week and usually I find because I'm so determined that half a pound is sometimes a pound or more but I have to be consistent. I'm human so my consistency has gone on holiday for a few months. Lol; which is why I'm here..to get my consistency back....welcome and enjoy your journey. And..congratulations on making a first step to a new future..again. I'm sure most of us tried dieting before hence my reference to the again word..
Why not start by getting an absolute handle on what you are eating , write everything you eat down, try to see your most colourific foods and the times of day or triggers you have associated with foods. Then you could ask yourself what small step can I make that will make a difference? Take small steps at a time so you have more chance of making that change permanent, this will build your self esteem and hopefully you can add in more changes when you feel able to so. It might be something like if you use oil to fry food, instead of pouring it in, measure it in or if you have cereal or oats for breakfast measure your portions or if you usually eat 1/2 packet of biscuits in one sitting say well I'm only having 2 etc.
