Welcome to the forum Belisarius, you're not giving many clues here. How overweight are you? are you reasonably active? Your profile picture for a 74 year old looks great. Many people find calorie control is too difficult to follow. There are various alternatives such as Low Carb High Fat (LCHF), Mediterranean, Low Glycemic Index etc. Many of these are effectively low carb.
Don't fret. There's really no reason why it should work. We get a post identical to yours every week. Adjust the content of your meals, rather than the amounts, and you'll find the weight drops off without you having to suffer (1200kCal/day is starvation level, which is why your body has switched off fat-burning - it's a self-preservation mechanism).
As BigRedDBA said, there are several alternatives that actually work. Most of these involve replacing carbohydrate-calories with fat-calories; doing that tilts your body's metabolism away from fat storage and towards fat burning.
Being Imperial Rome's greatest general, I'm sure you'll conquer this eventually
Hi Belisarius and welcome
I don't count calories and just eat healthily and exercise. It is whatever suits and I wish you luck 😄
Many thanks for your advice
Hello Belisarius.
You have certainly come to the right place for help and encouragement. I’m also 73 and want to achieve a sensible BMI in order to be able to enjoy my family for as long as possible.
It’s not easy to lose the weight but slowly slowly I hope it will go.
Along with the diet it’s a good idea to take some exercise and I find walking is the best for me because I can do as much or as little as I want to.
I wish you luck as you continue. I’m sure the tips you receive will help.
😀
Hello, the best suggestion I can give is to take a look at lchf, the food is lush and you're not hungry!
Would you also like to join us on the weigh in? Here's the link, I hope to see you there! x
Good morning, rlfsant
You've replied on an old post and I don't think the poster is around much these days but there's plenty going on around the forum.
If you follow this link healthunlocked.com/weight-l... to Pinned Posts, you'll find all our activities and challenges. Look through them all so you know what's on offer. A good place to start is by joining a weekly weigh in and using the daily diary, where members share their meal plans.
