55, tried over years to lose weight, but constantly hovering on, over, or just under BMI for obese. Recently, lost job, got depressed, but started walking a lot, lost a little weight, but now have foot problem, and podiatrist advised rest and recovery! Very frustrated that I can't walk far, and have put weight on in 8 weeks on relatively minor activity. Recently started new job, and have taken salads and fruit for lunch for past 6 weeks - eaten sensibly in evening, only lost about 4lb due to inactivity. Any ideas to move without using feet?

Hi there, welcome to the forum. You will receive plenty of support here and will get lots of ideas. As for exercise I am no expert as I don't do much but I am making plans to make it part of life. I would love to do walking but I am finding it difficult for many reasons, so I have been looking at other types I could do in the meantime. I will be using an exercise bike to get me started along with resistance band exercise. The bands can be used while seated. Have a look on YouTube for cardio exercises while seated or lying down. Swimming would also be very good. Good luck.
Try swimming as great for burning calories and no weight on your feet
Use tins for weights for arm exercising
Glad things are looking up for you, though it must be frustrating to be told to rest when what you really want is to get walking!
I hope your foot heals quickly and in the meantime you find some good seated exercises!
Why don't you buy an indoor stationary bike. I lost 2 stones on a calorie controlled diet and 30 minutes cycling a day. There is a technique to the cycling. If you are interested just ask. I did this in the NHS weight loss plan in 12 weeks. I hope I can help you because I've suffered a lot with my feet and legs.
That sounds like a good idea - I will look at bike idea, thankyou. I have tried bike at gym, but didn't really like it....... must try a bit harder I think .
dal1 hi i have a stationery bike and would be interested in the technique you mention please. I have had achilles tendonitis since April it has improved but not fully gone so am also restricted with exercise as I don't want it to flare up again by doing too much too soon. Thank you
Hi. What I did was cycle at a comfortable speed for example 9 speed for two minutes then up the resistance to 14 speed for one minute and then back too two minutes at 9 and so on. This has to be a gradual build up too thirty minutes. For example if you only manage 5 minutes at your first attempt don't worry. Slowly add 30 seconds or a minute daily add as you feel comfortable. So summarise. 2 minutes comfortable and the 1 minute fast and then back too 2 minutes comfortable and 1 minute fast and so on until you build up too 30 minutes daily. Will take time so be patient with yourself.
Hi dal1 I intend starting exercise on an indoor bike next week. I am intrigued with the technique needed, could you tell me more? Thanks

Oh I have the patience of a saint when it comes to exercise I am in no rush to be breaking any records. At the moment I pat myself on the back for just getting off the sofa! Thanks for that dal1, I now I have a proper plan! I just need to see how this bike of mine functions. I've only had it four years (told you I was in no rush) and just used level 1 when the notion took hold which was not very often. Off to locate the instructions!!
