Hi everyone. I was an avid poster here many years ago (where has the time gone?). I did lose 6 stone in a year and was feeling fab at 40. Now I am 44 and put 5 stone back on over the past 4 years! My body seems hugely resistant to losing weight. I think its fed up! I try all the "tricks" that worked before but nothing!
I recently cried for help at the GP and they ran blood tests. All that came back was low vitamin D. So am currently taking super strength tabs to raise my levels.
I have also been on the depo injection for 7 years (side effect - weight gain). I had endometriosis surgery and was put on depo to stop my periods so it wouldnt return. The GP has advised me to come off it. A) to see if I am menopausal or perimenopausal and B) to see if the depo was stopping me losing weight.
I have recently just done 14 weeks of Slimpod. Have been eating salads and more fruit, smaller portions and exercising upto 5 hours a week (not including being pretty active at work too). I even gave up sugar (me a chocolate addict!!) for about 4 or 5 weeks and.... NOT A SINGLE POUND LOST. It sent me in a spiral and back to binge eating. I'm now eating quite healthily all day then have an evening chocolate binge until I feel sick!
Slimpod -and all my other years of dieting trials- has taught lots of valuable lessons I hope I can share here. I may not have found the magic wand for me but if some of what I have learned can help others that would be awesome.
I have missed not having a community to belong to. To be able to moan or celebrate with. To share our ups, downs and tips and tricks!!
I look forward to being a part of this group again!

It's interesting to hear what you have to say about the depo jab. I went on it about 7 years ago and gained 20kg in the first 4 years which is now (very slowly) reducing. Though I don't think it was the only factor in gaining weight it's interesting that it could have contributed! The nurse is going to take me off the depo for a while to restore bone mineral density, so it'll be interesting to see if that impacts weight loss!
Yes very interesting! The GP said I could get the implant instead if I wanted (to stop my periods if they come back as that could set off my endo again). Surprisingly she said the implant has neither the weight gain nor bone density risks of depo! Which is annoying why they have kept me on depo for so long if there was a better alternative!
Welcome back ! I too have regained two thirds of my previous loss. This is all so frustrating, I need to reduce my portion sizes, I suspect that I now need pretty modest amounts of food each day, restaurant portion sizes would often feed 2 people at home. At least it should save money on the food bill.
It sounds as if you have extra metabolic challenges but don’t give up. I am currently focussing on eating more veg , nuts and seeds and avoiding bread, cakes and biscuits.
Me too! I am sick of calorie counting so want to try having moderate sized breakfast, lunch and dinner. One chocolate treat after dinner and then the rest of the time fill up on fruit, veg, nuts and seeds! I think those foods are "natural" to our ancestors and fill us up without having all the "bad" stuff that makes you want more more more. (Ie you would probably have had enough eating one or two apples yet apple pie you could eat and eat and eat!).
Having only fruit, veg, nuts, seeds and some protein (eggs, meat, cheese) daily would prob be best. But I also know restricting or forbidding foods is not sustainable. So I want to still enjoy a nice normal dinner etc. But smaller portion. So maybe a fist sized portion of a pasta dish then bulk with veg or salad.
Haha when my mum and I eat out we usually only get one dish and share. I cant even imagine eating a whole one to myself. Its crazy the portion sizes. Surely half the size and half the price would be good for both people and business!
ou say that you've tried all the hacks but have you tried avoiding refined seed oils. Have a listen to this interview with Dr Chris Knobbe ".Seed Oils are the #1 Problem in Your Diet" youtu.be/jYQ1bMec3GM
I got an air fryer and cut out using any oils for the past two years. But have very recently started using olive oil in cooking as that was cited as good and part of "the meditarian way" in Slimpod.
Great as long as you sre sure that it's pure extra virgin olive oil because some are aduterised with cheaper refined oils. Great benefits in lowering blood pressure, ldl colesterol and is anti inflammatory
Welcome back CrimsonMama, I'm ready to celebrate and commiserate! It is so hard to lose and so easy to put on. I lost almost 2 stone in 2 years which felt sooo slow, but the last year I have stagnated which is annoying. But I know that being on this forum has stopped me putting on tons. So with this forum, stagnation is also a win! Be well and happy. Enjoy the journey with us!
