Suspected TIAs

I'm a new and worried member. Over the last few years I have had episodes where my legs wont function and it might be TIAs. (Transient Ischaemic Atacks This has happened 6 times over a few years maybe 3 years but has not been definitely diagnosed. Has anyone else experienced TIAs and what did you do to help? I know I need to lose weight and exercise more. I'd love to hear from you. Thanks natashasdance

Hi and welcome

- please note we are not medically trained and can only go on our experience - Please consult your GP for medical advice (yes I know you have asked if anyone has experience, but just want to make you aware that no medical info can be given :) )

Take a look at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), or in the drop down on the 'Posts' page (it says 'arrange by'). Read the Welcome Newbie thread, then move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you.

Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news.

Have a look at the NHS 12 week plan, as many people have had success with it. Also use the BMI (can be found in the pinned Newbie post) to find your target calories, it's important to eat enough. This was a major turning point for me, realising I could eat anything I wanted as long as the calories are accounted for 😊

Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate 😊

To the right of the HOME page (bottom on a mobile), you'll find Events. In there, you'll find links to our daily Weigh-in's (you will choose just one day per week), our Daily Diary, where we post our menu and exercise plans, for accountability, advice and support - which is great to get ideas of what other people are eating and I have to confess to nicking some of their menu's and our “What's happening today” thread, where we pop in for a chat.

Be aware, that the HU app doesn't give you access to all of our important features, so we advise that you use the full website page

We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too 😊

Wishing you all the best on your weight loss journey

Hi That is a question I doubt anyone on the forum would feel confident or comfortable in answering. Is your GP investigating it and have you been referred to neurologist? I can understand why you are concerned but TIAs affect people in different ways and just because someone has had a similar reaction does not mean the cause will be the same for you. Have you spoken to your GP about your concern that you have had TIAs- since they maybe able to give you information on why they don't think they were TIAs or if they think its a possibility refer you for any suitable tests (though I am not sure if there are any tests that would diagnose TIAS). Good luck in finding out the cause

Thanks so much for your kind reply. I haven't yet been diagnosed but I think the GP is going to phone after Tuesday. The episodes are alarming and I do want to know what is wrong. I was referred by my GP for a scan in February but when I attended the clinic they did not give me a scan. I saw a physiotherapist and could do all the little tests but I had another episode on Monday and went back to the emergency GP on Wed and she said she would consult with my regular GP so I'm waiting but sometimes my walking is quite difficult. It's nice to be on a forum and receive kind replies like yours

hope you will get some answers by Wednesday- but its sod's law that you have an episode after you saw the physio and not during the assessment!

Yes! Sod's law indeed. I'll keep you posted and thanks again
