Morning everyone, I'm new to this and although I printed out the 12 week weight loss plan and downloaded my fitness pal last weekend, full of good intentions, it's now one week on and nothing has changed, things have been stressing me out a lot recently and I've been using food and alcohol to make things feel better, obviously in the long run it doesn't and I end up beating myself up again, this morning I decided to actually tally up all the calories I consumed yesterday and log it in mfp, obviously I was over my allowance but if I hadn't sat and worked it out, I think I would've expected it to be a lot worse, so I'm drawing a line now and starting a fresh, I've been reading some of the posts this morning and I can already see some that I can totally relate to, I wouldn't normally post in something like this, I'm way too shy and prefer to keep myself to myself but I'm so fed up now with the weight piling on, I'm prepared to admit that I do help x

Morning Jasmines
Welcome to the weight loss forum.
Your not alone in the way your feeling so you have come to the right place where there is lots of support and motivation for you.
Take a look at the Welcome Newbie post in the Pinned post section at the right hand side or at the bottom if your on a mobile. Have a look at the nhs 12 week plan, many members have had success following this plan. Use the BMI checker to work out your daily calorie allowance. Take your measurements at the start together with a photo so you can see the changes on the days the scales don't move.
Below the Pinned posts are the Topics where members share a range of weight related subjects.
Have a look at the Daily Diary which you can find on the Home page in Events. It is where all the members are sharing their daily plans on what they are eating and any exercise they are doing. This thread will give you some ideas on how to start.
We have daily weigh in's so why not come along and join us today. You can find the weigh ins on the Home page in the Events section on the right. Just click on the post in Events and record your start weight and any loss/gain or maintain for the week.
You may notice that members have a grey box next to their name, these are achievement badges. All new members have a "newbie" badge to begin with.
Please note if you are using the new HU app it does not have all the forums features on it, so we suggest you use the full website version.
To get the most of the forum be active, share tips, recipes and experiences. Read some of the posts they are very motivating.
Have a good first week.
Rose

Hi and welcome Jasmines
Wishing you all the best on your weight loss journey Yellowrose55 has given you some great advice
Have a look at the NHS 12 week plan, as many people have had success with it. Also use the BMI checker (a link to this can be found in the Welcome Newbies thread ) to find your target calories, it's important to eat enough. This was a major turning point for me, realising I could eat anything I wanted as long as the calories are accounted for π
Hello Jasmines
## Welcome ##
You have begun a new exciting journey where you are in control - I'm just starting my 3rd week and delighted π with the way my bod is rewarding my efforts health wise.
Calorie counting is tedious but having previously paid out lots of money π° on "weight loss plans" which are not only restrictive but also tedious with counting syns or guilt ridden because of a mouthful of twix etc this is a walk in the park ...
There are lots of ideas & help on this site & lots of lovely peeps. You are definitely not on your own ...
How many calories do you get advised to even eat on the MyFitnessPal. When I tried to use this I was only given 1200 because I chose to lose more than 1lbs a week. Many other females also get this amount or 1400 depending how many calories they want to lose as it is just average amounts and not personal amounts. I would only go with the NHS bmi calculator to get your calorie amounts but still weigh them up using the mfp. Just don't forget to go over the calorie amount by the amounts you should. The NHS bmi calculator gives personal amounts for each person depending on the details you give it which are normally a fair bit higher and the reason I would also use it is because I found out on here that by not eating the right amount of calories your body thinks thinks your starving it and turns what your eating into body fat and this weighs more than eating the extra calories does so it stops you from losing weight and sometimes puts weight on instead. Please don't make this same mistake as I did as I did this for years. Good luck with your journey.
Yes ok, I am pleased one thing I would advise is to go for a middle range of the calculator as you will have some amounts to drop by if you come across any problems whereas if you go by the lower amount as I did when you come across a problem or your weight loss stops you have no amounts to drop by as you have to at least stick to the right amount of calories. I really do wish I had gone for the higher amount to start with. I do regret going with the lower amount like I did.
