I could be good all day and ruin my diet in the evening. I was wondering what other community members think and how you cope with it. For example, if I am watching a cookery programme on TV, I invariably start thinking of food, so I think I will have to ban those!

Triggers which make me fall down
Hi parsifale
Try keeping a healthy snack for the evening lot nuts and raisins or fruit. Some members try things like painting their nails or having a relaxing bath just to take your mind off food. I use knitting in the evening.
I do this, make sure you stock up on all your favourite fruits so when you do feel like eating you can pick at fruit, that's all I do and it helps a lot, makes you feel better than reaching for a slice of cake or a chocolate bar lol (Which I used to do a lot of).
I sometimes have a glass of water and I know some clean their teeth or have herbal tea since they leave a taste in the mouth which doesn't mix well with food- especially chocolate or biscuits!
This is something which I have also tried successfully, so thanks for reminding me. My other trigger is when during the day, for example when I come back from mowing the lawn, I am usually in extreme pain because my feet burn badly from the pain. I have had arthritis for many years and the bones in my feet have fused together so the toes can't move. I end up feeling sorry for myself and then I will eat anything without stopping to think. I am trying to find a way round this as obviously I still have the jobs round the house to do!
I tend to have a long soak in the bath with a pot of tea on the toilet seat, music playing and a good book after doing gardening- as a treat. If I have enough calories I may have a glass of wine but usually a pot of tea does the trick
Hubby loves watching Saturday kitchen - I have to distract myself by cleaning or being on here
I try and eat fruit or carrot sticks etc at those times and build them in to your daily plan
I strip off and run around outside naked until the police come.
Joking of course.
I usually draw and listen to music or do some housework or gardening.
I haven't a clue about gardening so it's a new thing for me to learn which keeps my mind occupied.
I still have to find a distraction and that's 8 months down the line. If it's food then I try and snack on a grapefruit or 3 satsumas. The trick of them for me is that they take some time (for me) to peel them and I try to eat them slowly as well. Hopefully by the time I've finished the urge has gone away.
Had to do this the last few nights as I struggle to try and maintain.
I find I get the munchies too, either in the evening or in the boring lulls at work when others have biscuits and it's not quite time for lunch! I've found a cup of low-calorie hot chocolate does the trick for me. They're usually around 40 calories but I see that as a way of avoiding 200+ calories so a useful trade. I like fruit teas too, like blackcurrant, I think the hint of sweetness keeps hunger pangs - which are all in my head - at bay.
Welcome! In the evenings I have a piece of fruit. Just enough to take the hunger away. And I am going to try some of the suggestions here on your replies.
Good morning and a huge thanks to everyone who has replied with your useful suggestions. Just returned from the gym and shopping. My husband reminded me that I had not bought palm hearts for a long time. These are available in cans and they make a delicious and satisfying low calorie snack. You can eat them hot or cold.
