I started on the NHS choices diet using the sheets and lost qtr of a stone in the first ten days which was brilliant. Then I got very confused because I was suddenly bombarded by very well meaning people with Slimming World info. I've tried that for just a few days but at 58 I think it allows me too many carbs which are hard to shift. I find the calorie control is probably better because I write it all down, keep track etc whereas on Slimming World that doesn't happen. Also, looking at the recipes etc on SW there's a lot of repetition of foods whereas at least on the calorie one I can pop in a few treats and adjust the calories. What do you all think and what's your experience?

Which diet???
Hi Buddy 58
I'd definitely stick to calorie counting as it is clear, you know the rules and can see immediately if you start going off piste
Best wishes
Stick with the calorie counting Biddy, you have already proved it works.
Good luck on your journey
For me (well as a newbie) as pcrw has said it's calorie control. I followed the advise given when I first joined here, I calculated my BMI using the NHS calculator and it gave me a recommended calorie range.
I try to stick to this every day by recording everything I'm eating in the MyFitnessPal app that is free to use. It allows me to feel as though I'm in control also calories are easy to track as any packaged food has them listed so your not having to convert things to points or sins. Plus I weight any carbs, as I have found cutting these down and replacing with wholegrain helps.
Well done to your weight loss so far, half a stone is a very good result in 10 days 👍
Hello Biddy58 😊
I think you have answered the question for yourself, calorie counting clearly works for you and is the way to go. But we are all different and SW works for some people.
Well done on your weight loss so far, I hope you have had chance to read all the information you were given when you first joined? Being active on the forum, joining in with the Daily Diary and Group Weigh-ins is very helpful 😊
Best wishes
Anna
I personally like calorie counting because it's not a diet. I refuse to go on a diet, I'm looking for a healthy life, which I think I can do better counting calories because, as you say, you can put in what you like!
I think Anna's right though, in that you should pick whichever works best for you and, from your post, it sounds like you're not keen on SW.
Good luck!
Yup, I agree with the others! I've known people who've had great success with Slimming World but I could never get on with it. I have nicked some of the green recipes to make healthy dinners though - I just worked out the calories in them and used them that way. You've had a great result so far, so just stick with what you know works for you.
Sounds to me as though you have already made your mind up, Biddy58 . Calorie counting is best, for all the reasons you mention in your post. And I think you will find that 99% of us on here are already proof of it.
I personally prefer counting - it means I can eat whatever I like. I don't like being 'on a diet' or having food that is banned. Also I think labelling food as a 'sin' is not helpful (or is that WW !?!?!)
So agree about calorie counting. Although we are on holiday and the calories have mounted up because I am drinking alcohol on holiday I am more committed to recording them since going on the NHS diet regime. Into week seven and contemplating doing the 12 weeks over again. I'm really surprised that I can refuse deserts without feeling morose. Being away from home means that I don't have the same level of exercise (we are driving around and being tourists is very tiring) so really looking forward to a few weeks of ordinary living. Bye
