What triggers your munchies?

Today has been no different than any other and my food intake has been much the same. Imagine my surprise, then, when suddenly around four I became FAMISHED!

Had I done more activity than usual? No!

Had I had smaller portions than usual? No!

Was I dehydrated? No, I've had almost 2L of water today.

I am sat here now trying to understand the trigger for this hunger and have come up empty.

What about you guys, have you understood your munchies and know what triggers them?

It was maybe what you'd eaten, rather than the quantity, bbwnoire? Carbs, sugar and low fat foods have that effect on me, which is why I avoid them. I hate being hungry! :)

I must admit I am feeling the same and I have even upped my calorific intake, and yet here I am trying to resist the call of food- I have drunk more to try and get passed it, but its not working- I am still feeling hungry and not really had any different food than usual. At present I am tyring to think of something which is low in calories but will satisfy my hunger- already had an orange which didn't work, I am hoping that I won't give in since I have just got into the 54kg range- my target is 54kg (8st 7lbs) but I am happy to go up to 8st 9lb, but I am trying to develop my will power though toast & marmalade is calling!

I will keep with the drinking non-alcoholic beverages- so I will probably be up all night peeing!

Didn't see this reply until I gave in and ate a slice of toast and marmalade- but I have weighed myself this morning and I have lost more weight so maybe I needed the extra calories with what I burned off last Saturday with my 8m power walking, or I have miscalculated my calories

I am most definitely hungrier on some days than others, and firmly believe if you are hungry then your body needs nourishment. BUT as Moreless suggests, I stick to fruit and veg and protein, cheese or nuts usually, and try to avoid the biscuit tin scenario!

biscuits aren't an issue since I don't really have a sweet tooth (also I don't have any in the house)- probably its a good thing I am in my pjs so I won't be tempted to go out and buy a packet of crisps! When I started my maintaining calorie build up I became hungry all the time and put some weight back on that I had lost the previous month so I am going to see if drinking controls the hunger pangs but may still end up with some toast!

I own a coffee shop & when the staff go home @ 4.30pm I suddenly crave sugar. Recently I make sure I leave with them sometimes, because I go to the gym on my way home but, also to avoid being tempted!

This craving happens when I have have had a stressful day or a quiet one, classic emotional eater, but also if I have had a really good day I crave sugar again, almost to celebrate my success.

How strange is that?

I'm not sure it's strange dazzle, I think we have rewarded ourselves, bad or good, with food for so long that it is s hard habit to break.

You are so lucky to own your own coffee shop😊 I know it's hard work but what s lovely job. I worked in a tea room in a small village in the New Forest for years, it was exhausting but I loved it😊

Yes it is physically & mentally demanding & is always on my mind even when closed! I have the odd day when I could happily lock the door & throw away the key but, most days I am really happy & do feel lucky.

Very easy to reward myself with so much food around but, I am now managing the situation a lot better since using this forum!

Well, as to the physiological response, you may be on to something. For the last week, no matter how much I drink, I am parched - to the point of dry mouth. Perhaps I should get that checked out. Thanks for that x
