Don't lose weight unless excessively exercise! Who has time for that in this life style age

I'm 32, 5ft 5 and weigh 15st 8lb and size 16. I have maintained my weight for a year until 2 weeks ago when 8lb appeared from no where, I gave up smoking 10 week ago and I HAVE NOT been over eating. My eating habits ain't changed at all apart from no coffee, can't manage more than one a day now since quitting smoking haha. Now my issue is I was anorexic 16 year ago in my teens and have always struggled with keeping to an ideal weight since, I look at food and it gains 5 inch to my ASS. Now I've done slimmingworld, WW, LCHF (that was good lost 5 inch off my waist and gained 5 inch on my butt?? Don't ask I really don't understand it) I have 2 year ago had success in losing weight by going the gum 6 days a week for an hour each morning. I became addicted. But then life changes and can't do that no more, I walk Atleast two Mile a day and bike ride twice a week 8 mile a time along the canal with my partner. I eat on average 700 to 900 calories a day sometimes less sometimes more but max will be about 1300. So as you see lower the calories isn't always best.

What I'd like help with is losing weight. I want to lose 3-4 stone and I'd be happy and healthy as anything more does not suit me, I have large calves as in muscle and I'm medium framed.

Im stuck in this body with a deliberating condition that being obese isn't helping(HS)

& under my arms is in agony so I need to do this and feel I've exausted all options bar the one I started off with in my teens but don't want be ill again

Hi and welcome - I have just put your stats in the BMI calculator (which you can find a link to in the welcome Newbies thread) and you should be eating between 1855 - 2385 calories to lose weight ;)

Take a look at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), or in the drop down on the 'Posts' page (it says 'arrange by'). Read the Welcome Newbie thread, then move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you.

Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news.

Have a look at the NHS 12 week plan, as many people have had success with it. Also use the BMI (can be found in the pinned Newbie post) to find your target calories, it's important to eat enough. This was a major turning point for me, realising I could eat anything I wanted as long as the calories are accounted for 😊

Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate 😊

To the right of the HOME page (bottom on a mobile), you'll find Events. In there, you'll find links to our daily Weigh-in's (you will choose just one day per week), our Daily Diary, where we post our menu and exercise plans, for accountability, advice and support - which is great to get ideas of what other people are eating and I have to confess to nicking some of their menu's :) and our “What's happening today” thread, where we pop in for a chat.

Be aware, that the HU app doesn't give you access to all of our important features, so we advise that you use the full website page

We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too 😊

wishing you all the best on your weight loss journey :)

Ho nice to meet you. 700-900 calories is nowhere near enough to be healthy. It sounds like this has sent your body into starvation mode. When you do this your body responds by lowering your metablism in a desperate effort to hang on to calories. This makes it even harder to lose weight and leads to yo-yo dieting.

It does sound daft but eating more and the right food will take your body out of this mode and start to raise your metablism. You have to eat more to lose weight. Obviously you need to make healthy choices but this is the way to lose weight and keep it off for good.

The NHS plan is all about healthy eating and will give you a calorie allowance. If you stick to this you will soon start losing the weight.

I fully agree with Hidden i was not eating enough to start with as I only ate around 1000 Cals. My body thought I was starving it and turned what I did eat into body fat and this weighs more than eating the extra calories does so it stops you from losing weight and sometimes puts weight on instead. Check out how many you should have on the NHS bmi calculator to see what you should eat to lose weight and choose an amount to go by. Check it as you lose weight as well because this amount to eat does drop as you lose weight. Good luck with your journey.
