Hi Liz, I am right there in the same boat as you😊Have been yo-yo dieting for yrs, joined SlimmingWorld 3 times, have lost 4-6 st on 4 occasions. I have put 60lbs back on over the past 15 months through bingeing, need I say more! I started LCHF about 2 months ago, was going ok until my birthday, now back on the ‘wagon’.

Hello and welcome back Liz09

You are not alone in finding lockdown stressful and having gained weight as a result, but well done on coming back to the forum 😊

If you haven’t already then please have another read the Pinned Posts here healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh... as a few things have changed recently

As you may remember, this is a very busy forum with lots going on, and nothing beats joining in, reading posts and replying to others. Our group Weigh-in and the Daily Diary are probably the best places to start. Regular forum involvement is probably the best thing you can do to help with your weight loss and health improvement

Best wishes in your weight loss journey

Indigo 😊

Thanks pink4eva and indigo for your reply I’ve just had a look into LCHP and it looks like something I could try and I will definitely join one of the weigh ins as that is what I find helpful when goin to Sw group being able to say I’ve lost weight and dreading having to say I’ve gained

Hi Liz, in exactly the same situation! I lose then gain over and over. The past 10 years has seen me vary between size 10/12 10st to size 20 15st. I’m currently on my second week and determined!!! You probably will agree with me that a diet is 90% mental and 10% “doing” 😁

Good Luck on your journey

Group support is invaluable so I hope you find the forum helpful in that regard. We don’t generally tell you off for gaining though 😂 Everyone has ups and downs

Good luck

So often I see people taking responsibility on themselves saying that their 'willpower failed' rather than that the diet failed to address the biochemistry of hunger and cravings (leading to unsustainable yo-yo weight loss and weight gain).

I find successful weight-loss is a balance between (1) finding a science-based approach that works, and (2) sticking to it.

Many practical ideas can be found in the Daily Diary and Weigh-In threads as has been suggested. 😄

It’s a hard one as I have lost weight with sw and know many people that have too but also many people that have regained the weight and only a few that have made it a lifestyle change

in reply to Liz09

That’s the whole thing. You lose it. Woo hoo. But then it all goes back on. It’s not a sustainable lifestyle - the body is not designed to live without fat, so you put it back on, and more.

PS not you personally but generic you

For the past 20 years, at least. You are probably regaining the weight because you keep certain diet for some time and when you reach you goal you go back to the regular food you are used to. I'm afraid you will need to pay attention to this detail from now on. To reduce the number of times you eat certain types of food, or to get rid of them for good.

I'm reading the book The Obesity Code and I would strongly suggest you to read it. You are going to understand the effects processed food creates in our bodies not the day after, but months after.

Liz09 See my post of yesterday Nutritional Nuggets. It’s a long presentation but worth the time. It might give you some pointers to keeping your losses off.

Yes, it is not your lack of willpower, it is your insulin system. Losing weight, then gaining it back... There must be a reason this is a familiar story, right? Does nobody have willpower?

You can watch Jason Fung online or listen to one of his podcasts. He is the doctor who wrote The Obesity code. He does such a good job of explaining the root cause of obesity. It will really help you understand how to change your diet in a way that makes a HUGE difference.

BTW--after years of the same yo yo dieting, I finally lost 60 lbs, and I've kept it off now for 10 years. And it doesn't take willpower as much as knowledge.

I need to loose around stone and half to get into my BMI bracket and for me to feel more comfortable in my nursing uniform. Wearing scrubs at moment which has give in trousers. Not good as it allows you to eat and it expands with you. 🤦🏼‍♀️

I have now banned leggings from my wardrobe for that reason...

Hi again, just read your previous post. I am around the same weight, and in the same ‘boat’, so to speak. Also I am a member of SW, had lost weight, although I was more calorie counting than following the plan. Have put 60lbs back on over the previous 15 months. Was getting desperate not to put on any more weight. At my heaviest I was 16st12lbs. Then I found this forum and started LCHF eating.
