I have eating eating around 1000to 1100 cals a day for the last month but advised to up a little which was great advice.
I was 10 stone 4 pounds a 7 pound loss starting weight 10 stone 11
I felt a bit tired yesterday and decided to up my calories a little as I thought my headache could be my need for a few more calories as advised.
I have been really watching my carb intake and sticking mainly to fish and chicken, lots of vegetables including carb veg eg carrots, etc and fruit. This made up my 1000 to 1100 cals per day. I've had a really good diet with the best quality of food. No rubbish.
Yesterday and particularly last night I added around 150 calories extra due to my thought it could be I should up calories more to find my level.
I had a slice of toast and before anyone asks me YES I did count everything immaculately
This morning I got on the scales and I'd put a whole pound of weight on.
I have stuck to the calories every day never failing but since I've added an extra 110 calories re the bread I've put on a pound.
I know it takes an extra 3500 cals for a pound and this seem quite impossible but I've gained a pound overnight ?????
I do wish to up my calories to around 1250 but I just don't wish to ruin my efforts over the month especially now I've lost the weight. I'm 55 so it's not periods or menopause.
Has this happened to anyone else on here. I'd appreciate your comments. Please give me advice as I'm so worried now I've upped my calories as advised that I won't be able to lose weight and I've around another 2 stone to go to get healthy.
Re exercise I can only walk due to osteoarthritis. The Weight loss is also to take the strain from the knees.
Please don't say this is impossible because I've actually gained a whole pound literally over night. I've been so strict on all days.

I feel your frustration!! But trust me, it's impossible to gain a pound of fat overnight. Your weight will vary from day to day depending upon many factors, so try not to panic.
I think you are on the right course, the calorie targets suggested by the BMI checker are correct. Just give it time, at least a week if you can, or a couple of days at least.
What you eat is very important. Different foods work in different ways for different people. I also need to really watch my carbohydrate intake, I think that is normal in women of our age. But from whatbyounhave said, you are getting a good balance. To double check, have a look at this
Finally, 7lbs in a month is a lot of weight, especially as you are quite small and not very heavy, I've had to accept 1/2 to one pound a week as normal. So even with a pound on, you are still 6lbs off over the month which is fantastic. 😊
Keep it going, you are doing really well, remember, you need to keep up with this way of eating permanently so it needs to be right.
So true Anna and great advice. It could be fluid retention or anything Bread seems to have a very negative effect on me. Do you think I should eliminate bread and replace with an alternative as it does seem to affect my weight loss in the past too. I'm hoping the scales will give a weight loss at the end of the week. I realise myself no one can gain a pound from the calorific intake I'm having it could be fluid retention and the scales should show a loss at the end of the week. I suppose it's also good it's happened as I won't get too comfortable with my current loss.
Many people have great success giving up bread, so if you know it has an adverse effect on you that would be sensible. As long as you are getting enough carbohydrates from other sources you will be fine. 😊
I find that eating my starchy carbs early in the day is beneficial, and limit my evening meal to mostly protein and vegetables. But I'm struggling with my hormones at the moment after a hysterectomy last year.
Thank you Anna. An hysterectomy is such a big operation even after a year it takes a long time to fully recover. Thank you from everyone on this site for all your amazing tips and replies. The hormones will settle given time. Once again thank you.
Hi don't get too down about it and don't overthink things.
I am 56 had a hysterectomy at 39 and started my journey 10 months ago. I did well for the first 7 months the last 3 I have lost very little but plodding on. I used to scrutinise everything then gave up because I couldn't find quick answers to my problems, now I have learnt to go with the flow. I dont go back to comfort eating and I keep changing little things, dropping certain foods, introducing others and I find bread and too many carbs bad for me from my trials.
I used to have bad hip pain but loosing some weight has helped this enormously so I tend to look back on what I have achieved so far rather than what I am not achieving at the moment.
Just check your scales if they are battery ones also make sure you weigh in maybe some time, same day, exactly the same place mine are even put on the same bathroom tile as they can vary even just placing them somewhere different on the floor.
Try a week bread free and see how it pans out for you anything is worth trying but I have learnt stress can cause weight gain also that's why I am trying to take a more laid back approach another trial I am afraid.
Good luck you will have lots of other good advice to work with I am sure.🌹
I find myself more comfortable looking at my weight everyday and find everyday my weight changes. I have even found what you are wearing can change the amount of lbs on the scales. I always weigh myself with my night clothes on and keep the scales in the same place. I tested this as one day I forgot, was fully dressed and found myself 3lbs heavier than the day before. I put back my night clothes back on and I dropped 2lbs. I decided this day to check myself at different times of the day and I was constantly different all day. By the end of the day I had added another 4lbs. The next day when I weighed myself, this had all gone and I was lighter than the morning before. I always find everyday the weight tends to change. I just like to keep an eye on it, but mainly concentrate on the difference of the weigh in day. 😉🎉🌹
