Well, here goes ....

Found out on BMI chart that I'm on the cusp of being obese so with that, and a creaky knee and more than one or two unflattering photographs I've decided to take action. The chart says that I have to lose 2st 13lb to get into shape!

My chief difficulty is that in my head I still believe I have the body of a goddess and that I eat like a sparrow. The reality is a little different! I also have hypothyroidism and have to take thyroxine so it's all too easy to say that's the reason for my weight.

I have lost weight before so I know it's possible, but it does seem to be getting much harder to do now that I'm 55. Hoping that the support of this online forum will really help. Thanks guys!

Welcome Hidden and good on you for not blaming your age or your condition! I am 64, have had an underactive thyroid for 35 years, and I gain weight when I eat too much. Simple as that. And I lose weight when I watch what I eat. I'm very good at this, been doing it most of my adult life 😂. I know I'm not seriously overweight, (I take my hat off to those amazing people on here who have had to lose several stone), but we all know where we would like to be, and we all support each other on this forum in maintaining healthy eating habits. And the evidence is there - it works - hundreds of us are living proof of that. So join in, join us, ask advice, seek support and we will celebrate with you when it goes well and commiserate when it's not going right, but you will get there, I promise! 👍
