Hi, I am into week 8 of dieting, I have managed to lose 2 stone so far but have a very vast amount to lose, around 11 stones, but am setting small targets, next target to hopefully have lost a further stone by Xmas. I am swimming 3/4 times a week for an hour each time and managing 1,600M each time. Then trying for 2 x 1 hour walks twice a week as well. Good luck to everyone.

Hi and welcome to the forum
WOW 2 stone in 8 weeks that is a great achievement
Take a look at the Pinned Posts section, to the right of your screen (bottom, if you're using a mobile) and have a look at the Welcome Newbies thread.
Wishing you all the best on your journey
You have done such a brilliant job of changing your lifestyle around Liz, no wonder you have lost those 2 stone and I've no doubt more will follow. I had a lot of weight to lose too, but the hardest part is starting. Once you are into a routine it all gets to feel more normal and less like hard work, and one day you look back and wonder whether you really used to live your life in any other way.
This forum has been so wonderful for me and I hope you will join us often. The support and communal experience of other members of the community has been so important for me and I think I would have given up long ago without it.
I find the Monday weigh in really good; it's in the Events Section on the bottom right of the page underneath Pinned Posts and there are lots of challenges and events if any of them take your fancy.
Also the NHS 12 week plan is really good and I would suggest you take a look at the BMI calculator and suggested calorie range. This was a revelation to me because I lost my first stone by going solo, and eating 1300 calories a day; well the weight loss was rapid but there was no way I could possibly sustain that for any length of time.
The NHS BMI calculator suggested I should eat around 1800 calories each day (it is currently at 1650 because I have lost more weight) at the bottom end of the range and that is what I have been doing since. It sounded crazy that I could eat more and lose weight but it has worked. I have lost loads more weight, no longer feel deprived or suffer from hunger pangs or cravings and know that I can keep this going pretty much indefinitely.
Hope you don't mind my waffle, but I think that when you're in it for the long haul like we are, the more you can eat and still lose weight, the better chance we have of keeping it off. It was someone on this forum who told me all this when I first started so I hope it helps you too.
Best of luck Liz x
Thanks for the advice & encouragement. I stumbled upon the NHS weight loss probably at about week 4 & did the BMI and calorie which did help loads, also looking at the Fats in foods & keeping this reduced has helped. It is changing of lifestyle and I have always been a yoyo person lose a stone & half & then put 2 stone on then start again each time it becoming harder. Always making excuses for not doing any exercise but this time I have been more determined. Thanks again & keep up your good work. 👍
Thanks Liz,
I have always yo yo dieted before but don't intend to fall into that trap this time so instead of a goal weight, my only goal is to keep off any weight I lose. I see your point about letting the exercise slip; in fact I have done just that over the last few days so thank you for that unintended kick up the bum. I shall get up and go for a walk right now x
Well done you on all you have achieved so far and all the best for the future
Thank you
