I’ve just joined and have along way to go....around 5 stone to lose. I’ve tried for years with no luck. I’ve decided to aim for a few pounds at a time rather than face the full horror of what I need to lose all at once as that seems impossible!
To top it all I fell last week quite badly, have limited mobility at present and a fractured arm to contend with! As soon as the pain subsides I’m going to walk a little each day.

Hi Jane, good luck. I started eleven weeks ago and it is working for me and I have had on-going problems with my knees. The NHS BMI calculator helps me pitch how much exercise I do and how many calories to eat and I post every day in the Daily Dairy which has helped with planning and the other members have been really supportive. Only wish I had found this site years ago.

Hello Jane. I have a just over 5st to lose too. The sound of trying to lose that amount is too daunting to think about. I have given myself small targets of 7lbs at a time. It’s gone a bit pear shaped at the moment and I seem to be losing 1lb gaining a 1lb but I’m going to keep going.
The support on here is fantastic and I’m a firm believer in “you get out what you put in” so try to get as involved as you can.
Hope you get out walking in the fresh air while your arm heals.
I’m like this, to be a healthy weight for my height I have about 4st to shift. Currently aiming for 2st loss, but have been stuck where I am for a year now, but started cycling in sept and C25k (week 6 run 1 tomorrow) so I may have lost fat and gained muscle
We have been out on our bikes this week and I’ve been loving it. C25k is something I’d really like to do but I have a dodgy knee and I’m worried about causing damage. I do swim 4 days a week though. I just need to get my diet in order. I have been trying to do LCHF but I’m finding it tricky at the moment as OH has decided he no longer wants to eat meat. As there are only the 2 of us at home now it makes sense for me to do the same. As soon as I can get my head round dealing with the 2 changes I’ll be fine. We have been emptying the freezer during April and I can’t wait to restock with appropriate foods once it has been defrosted. 😊
I am prone to tearing ligaments in my right ankle (last time being Oct 2018) and as a result painful knees. If found my ankle has been feeling a lot stronger since starting but knees are a little achy
It’s not too bad, it’s a fracture so it’ll heal in around 6 weeks I think. Unfortunately I really injured my back when I fell last week. I went over backwards and ended up being airlifted to Glasgow hospital as we were on Barra at the time. It was dreadful but on the right side of it. I just can’t wait to be up and about again. I walk the dog every day and I’ve had to put him in kennels for now as my husband works long hours and can’t take that on too. And Pilates is on hold too. I’m going to do a bit of Pilates at home daily though, just what I can manage then I don’t seize up!!
Ouch ! Sorry about your arm ! One step at a time, would you like to join our Summer Challenge? Here is the link to tell you all about it! Hope to see you there!
hiya jane im just about to start my journey, been looking up lots of info on healthy eating i have around the 5 stone mark to lose, i dropped a washing machine on my foot a year ago and gained loads of weight from not moving around for a year much!
here goes!! plus ive just been told by the docs i am in the throws of menopause and just started hrt so im wondering what that has done to the sudden spurt of gut fat!!
i would like that a lot- its a long road but i think i stop start and never quite get to my goals! if you have wattsapp ill be happy to chat on there as well x
I don’t have that app and I live in the middle of nowhere with no signal for mobile phone so can’t send texts! It’s like the Middle Ages here. But I can get on line with my i pad. I’m feeling. Quite positive about this now.
thats not a prob, ill make the effort to log on to this site so we can talk.
i have lots of weights and push up bars etc so im determined to do little bits each day to get my fitness up and take that slowly but surely.
have you actually started yet? i am going shopping this week for some final bits and ive been looking up lots of healthy meal ideas so feel like once i get the food in i need i am ready to go for it x im tina by the way
I’ve started just by cutting out all the rubbish I eat such as biscuits etc. I’m rather dependant on what my poor hubby cooks for the time being when he gets in from work and although he’s quite healthy, he does seem to use a lot of olive oil in everything! I’m eating healthy low cal breakfast and lunches though. Good luck with the shopping Tina!
well i have a list of avacados, chicken cous cous veggies eggs etc all the good stuff its more what to do with it as i have no imagination with flavours! i dont have a partner so cooking for 1 isnt always the most exciting but im trying to get more motivated and know the health benefits will make it worth it and also i may learn how to cook more along the way!
I’ll get there I know. I’m a mile a minute person normally, up at 6am and busy all day so I couldn’t stand being like this for longer than necessary! I’d go round the bend I think!
i was the same when i broke my foot and crushed my toe i am the doer and the constantly on the go sort of person and that really done me in not being mobile for so long! but all good now so its time to erase all that damage!
How’s your day gone Tina? I’ve stuck to my plan although it’s not a brilliant one at the moment. I’m looking forward to being able to cook myself again!
I just spent 2 hours writing out my plan and shopping list for tomorrow so ill be all set to start friday ! Just thought get into the routine cooking fresh and it will just flow! I hope! Ive done all my measurements so if some weeks the scales don'tmove i can still see and feel the progress x
You can only do what you can with your arm how it is but its not forever x
Do not fear - it is doable! I understand that the inability to move a lot may make you feel like you won't achieve much, but it is not true! Weight loss depends mostly on what you eat - so if you keep it clean and stick to your NHS personal allowance (if you haven't calculated that yet - please do it!) there is no reason why you shouldn't see a constant weight loss.
As you can see, I have lost just over 6.5 st and it's taken me about 18 months - I have lost less than a stone for the first 4 months by just exercising and ''kinda thinking about food'' - although I thought I could get to lose lots of weight just by exercising. Then in February last year I started seriously looking into what I eat and that's how my real weight loss begun. So make sure you eat RIGHT.
As per mini goals - I always have a couple in front of me and all within easy reach; as I get to one, I add another one. As an example, I am now 162.5 lbs and I am aiming first to get under 161 lbs which is 11 st 7 lbs and then to 158 lbs to reach my 7 st loss. Keep having small manageable targets and you will not get demotivated! If at the beginning I would have set myself the target of losing 100+ lbs, I would have started crying!
It is great to have you with us! Have a great week!
That’s an amazing achievement, well done! You’ve really inspired me now. So I’m trying to focus on nothing but 2 lb for this week, then 11 lb for the summer challenge. It’s hard not to think of the whole amount though and when I do I feel quite despondent! Thanks so much for this advice.
Yes, focus on small targets then you’ll have many achievements and that will keep you going! I do not know your weight but aim for the next x stone 7 lbs or x stone 0 lbs, or change the whole weight to pounds and focus on the next 5 or 0 (ie. xx5 or xx0)! You will surely succeed! Never give up! Do not turn one bad day or meal in failure; make it a learning curve! Learn why you did it! Have a great journey!
