Just joined and help needed! Lost over 6 stone on Weight Watchers, 2 stone to go but have come to an abrupt stop! Time for a change....

I have lost just over 6 stone on the Weight Watchers plan but I seem to have come to an end, I have been on the WW plan for exactly 2 years and have lost lb's more or less each week, now for the past month or so I lose some then put it back on even though I am sticking to the plan. I feel it is time for change as I have approx 2 stone to lose for a healthy weight. I want to know how other people are doing and how do you keep track of all your calorie intake, how do you know how many calories things are ( this might sound daft) but in fruit and veg etc. These are mostly zero points on WW so I could have these whenever and however much I wanted. Any advice will be warmly welcomed! Thanks for reading.

Hi kristi80,

As a WeightWatchers veteran (is that the right term?) you'l probably understand a fair bit about weight loss, but it's worth reading the NHS live well lose weight pages which have lots of good and totally free advice and information on them including a free 12 week plan.

There's also lots of good advice and personal experiences worth reading on these blogs.

You say you've lost 6 stone, so I'm going to make a bit of a guess here.

Let's say - just for the discussion - that you're now 12 stone and that you were 18 when you started. That would mean you're 2/3rds of the body mass you were when you started. It would also mean that you've lost a third of your body mass since you started. That's 6 stones (about 38 kgs) of body mass that no longer needs calories to maintain it.

So if you're still taking in the same amount of calories and burning off the same amount as you were when you started, then it could well no longer be enough of a deficit to continue reducing the weight of your new lighter body.

If that is the case, then the answer is probably to cut the calories a tad more and to up the exercise a bit.

But the weight loss game is not mathematically perfect - this could just be a blip and I would say don't worry too much about it as long as your weight is trending downwards.

If it's not a blip, then adjust your calorie intake and up your exercise/activity a bit and see if the trend carries on downwards after that.

Wow thank you for the very full reply, you are more or less spot on with the weight I was and am. Yes, obviously I was counting points with ww and its becoming a bit of a drag after 2 years, obviously I had a lot of weight to lose and knew it wouldn't happen over night and I'm still happy with the pace I've lost it. I am definitely going to up my exercise levels (which I find easier in the milder weather) and go for approx 1400 calories a day. Again, thanks for your reply, it was very helpful

Oh brilliant thank you, I think it's going to take me a while to get out of the weight watchers mindset, it has worked wonders for me so I'm still very loyal haha

Hi Kristi80, it may be that your body has gotten used to the points program. I know that on ww they have a thing called "filling and healthy day" which I think works like their old core plan, where you can pretty much have as much of the green filling and healthy foods as you like, but have to point anything outside of this. The allowance used to be 21 points per week for non "core" foods. Perhaps collar your leader and ask him/her about it.

I found something similar happened to me, I dropped 5 stone a few years ago and found that I hit a massive plateau at that point and would go down 1 then up 1 then down 2 then up 2 on a more-or-less weekly basis. Managed to keep the weight down for about 2 years but it started creeping up during last year so have gone back to try to get to goal this time.

WOW! Well done shifting the 6 Stone. Can I suggest that you look at the NHS C25K (couch to 5 Km) plan at couchto5k.healthunlocked.com/ It is a GENTLE introduction to running that takes roughly 9 weeks. There are blogs and questions like here and it is very active. friendly and supportive. Lots of people trying to get up off the couch and exercise more .. nervous newbies through to "graduates" who have completed the plan and are celebrating that they can run for 30 min when they couldn't run for 1 min at the start of the plan. It takes 30 min 3 times a week.

well done for your success ive also been on ww and hit a plateau but my body has changed shape from a size 14 down to 12 and lost my fat tummy but need to lose some more so I am going to try this diet I will let you all know how I get on today is my first time of seeing this diet. I also use fitness pal on I phone good luck
