This is the 'Afternoon/Evening Session' of the Fab 5'ers Monday weigh-in group, so please post in this thread if you're weighing in with us this afternoon and/or this evening!
The Morning Session has gone really well, and please have a look at the thread if you want to catch up with how everyone is doing there:
To all you Afternoon and/or Evening Monday Group weighers - I wish you an enjoyable weigh-in. One of the Fab 5'ers (Prin, Suzybenj, Ruth_Canal_Runner, Moreless and myself, Lowcal) will ensure we respond to you. But please be patient with us, as we do have other commitments and might not be able to reply straight away. By the end of the day, everyone will have received a response from one or more of us.
Ruth_Canal_Runner has compiled our stats from last Monday's thread, which makes great reading:
Total people posting on last Monday's thread: 128.
Total overall weight lost: 94.37 pounds (42.9 kilos).
Total people who lost weight: 75 (123.57 pounds lost) (56.17 kilos).
Total people who gained weight: 18 (29.2 pounds gained) (13.27 kilos).
Total people who maintained their weight: 14.
Total people starting out on their weight loss journey/plan: 15.
Total people who didn't disclose their weight gain/loss: 6.
Another especially inspiring read, if you’ve not seen this post yet, is Moreless’s Half-year update post:
I’ll probably embarrass her slightly by linking it here, but Moreless is a fabulous Fab 5’er, and I wanted to sing her praises by making sure everyone sees her amazing progress. I’m sure we all agree that she is an inspiring and lovely person. Congratulations Moreless. ☺
Note for Newbies:
If you are joining this weigh-in group thread for the first time today, then welcome. Just introduce yourself and share your starting weight (if you feel comfortable to do so) and your initial weight loss goals – setting yourself mini-goals leading to your ultimate weight loss goal is particularly helpful. You could also make a note of your body measurements – sometimes the scales stick at a particular weight, but there can be body measurement changes which are very motivating. It’s not all about the scales afterall – it’s how you feel in yourself.
You can always refer to previous weigh-in threads if you want to see what other people typically post (just click on my profile, Lowcal, and you’ll be able to see a list of all previous posts which are all clearly dated).
Also, if you’ve not already seen it, then take a moment to read the ‘Welcome Newbie’ pack which is a Pinned post (situated on right hand side of homepage) which has been collated by Fab 5’er Moreless.
Wishing you all a great weigh-in!
Regarding my own weigh-in results: Last Monday I was 13 stone 1.8 pounds, and today I weigh: 12 stone 13.4 pounds, so I’ve lost 2.4 pounds. I am very happy with that loss, and also pleased that I managed to go to the gym twice, as well as keep up with my Strength exercises (I’m enjoying doing Ruth_Canal_Runner’s March Strength Challenge – see Pinned Posts if you want to join in that Challenge). Ruth has also recently done an 'update' post, which you might want to read, if you're interested in joining us there:
My goal for this week is to continue with 2 gym sessions, and also improve on my strength exercises, and also continue walking most days. I am also including more fermented foods like plain live yoghurt, sauerkraut, etc, (to build up healthy gut bacteria), and I’d also like to try out a new recipe - so will be on the look-out for new ideas.
Updating this post at: 4.19pm, I've just realised I didn't set myself a weight-loss goal for this week, so I'll pledge to try to lose 1 pound this week.
Do share your weekly targets too, if you want to – it can really help to have a goal to work towards each week, in addition to longer term targets.
Onwards and downwards!!!
Lowcal ☺

Hi everyone, v well done moreless and lowcal for ur weight loss. that was v goofy
I didn't do too good last week. Whilst I ate healthily and I stayed within my calorie limits I didn't lose weight. This is purely because I didn't do exercise and it was my period. I have gained 2lbs that I lost last week after such hard work. Feel a bit down about that x
I think it's very tough to lose weight during a monthly cycle, and it's much more common to gain it during such times, so that is probably a lot of your 2 pound gain - i.e. hormonal changes, bloating, water weight etc. You've eaten healthily and you've stayed within your calorie limits, so there's no reason why you shouldn't see some results next week, all being well. I know it can be disheartening when you don't see the results you're hoping for, and unfortunately us women do have the extra complications of our monthly periods to contend with.
So, although I know you're feeling a bit down about it, please try to put it behind you, keep going, and you should see the results next week, once your period is well out of the way. You are also hoping to exercise as well, and that will be beneficial to your health and well-being too - I hope you have an enjoyable week ahead.
Thanks so much lowcal u know exactly what to say to cheer me up. I'm glad that it's normal and not only me. I will be walking 3 times a week to daughters preschool and do a toning dvd 4 times a week for the next week.
It's definitely normal. Something that happens to most of us, and more unusual not to happen. Great that you're going to be walking 3 times a week to your daughter's pre-school, and also doing those toning exercises. Really good exercise and hope the weather will be kind for when you're walking out in the fresh air.
I rejoined last week, and am pleased to report that this week I lost 2 1/2 pounds weighing in at 10 stone 8 1/2. I am hoping to continue the good work, writing everything down, cutting back drastically on alcohol and completing week 8 of c25k. It hasn't all been plain sailing, though as on more than one occasion exceeded the calorie goal, and had a very boozy weekend. However, I intend to drink within guidelines this week. Wish me luck.
Well done to everyone out there and keep working hard!
Thanks for the new week guys! Will have a read of morelesses post after work.
My heart hasn't really been in it the last few weeks (a mix if things really), and I'm back at 210.5lbs. I am getting my motivation back as the days get longer, and working in bits of exercise. Off to buy walking boots at the weekend, and generally making sure I sit down less.
We've given up chocolate for March, and I'm trying to cut out dairy (for my skin rather than for my diet!) so I hope to see things turn around soon.
Sorry to hear that you lost your mojo Cooper, but it happens to all of us at some time or another. The thing to do is jump right back on the bandwagon and get back into it. The starting is the worse part, but if you can get over that hurdle, the rest is easier.
Read every post you can, because that's where you'll find your motivation.
Good luck with giving up the dairy and have fun walking in your new boots
I am really pleased to have lost 2lbs this week, making it my first stone off, (with 2 to go). Feeling in control and enjoying my clothes getting looser and less discomfort in my legs and hips. My partner is planning a caravan walking holiday later this month - and has picked a scenic but hilly area to give me maximum benefit from all that exercise! Bring it on - I feel I can do it now. I love reading everybody else's posts - all very motivating!
I have lost 0.2lbs this week, at least it's going in the right direction I would like to get more exercise in and lose more next week.
But i will be missing weigh in next week unfortunately, but I will be in lanzorote on an all inclusive holiday :-). So plenty of chances to go off the scale with buffet food. It's also my birthday tomorrow and i hear there's cake and a three course Italian meal planned. So in 2 weeks time I'll let you know how I've got on. i am taking a portable DVD player and an exercise DVD and yoga mat with intentions to exercise while I'm away and i plan to get involved in aqua aerobics (- which is what it's usually called in Spanish islands) and any fitness classes they have and the gym and swimming.
Hope you've had a good week and i wish you the best of luck for next weeks weigh in. hope you have a great week and In Scotland today it's nice the sun's out and washing is drying on the line can't complain. Spring is here!
Congratulations on losing 0.2 pound this week, and it's definitely in the right direction, so really well done.
We'll miss you next week, but it's great to hear you'll be enjoying a lovely all-inclusive holiday to Lanzarote! Wow, that's really nice! Wishing you a Very Happy Birthday for tomorrow - enjoy that Italian meal and cake for your celebrations. Life is for living and you only get a Birthday once a year.
Great that you're taking a portable DVD player and yoga mat with you so you can do some exercises, and great that you're planning to get involved in the Aqua aerobics. I bet that's fun. Enjoy any extra fitness classes you join in with.
Great that the sun's shining on you today in Scotland, and have a wonderful Birthday and holiday.
Well done you for your loss!! I have lost 0.8 pound and I'm very happy as I seem to sabotage my progress. Every morning I start off well eating a good brekkie and making healthy lunch and snacks. But I pick on other 'naughty' things even though I'm not hungry. I seem to write everything in MFP but don't look at the calories at the end of the day! So I'm writing it down on a piece of paper and will write the daily amount in my diary every day, so I realize how I sabotage myself! On the plus side, Eddie and I have run three times this week. So we're doing well for our training for my fun run (shetlands aren't allowed to do fun runs!! that's sizeist)
Celebrate every loss Maxine, because as you say, it's heading in the right direction
Poor little Shetlands, I hope their exclusion doesn't make them feel inferior!
Keep on running and stay away from the snacks!
I can't post in the weigh-in because a) I haven't been even trying since I last posted and b) I didn't weigh this morning. But this is a promise to be in the game this time next week. I'll act this week with a view to weighing next week!
Great to read Moreorless' progress. Well done Moreorless! Good wishes to everyone else. No need for any of the fab fivers to reply to this since it isn't a real post. Lots of positive vibes to all for enjoyable exercising and sensible eating this coming week.
I am really glad to see you today, and thank you for posting even though you've not actually weighed in. You're making a pledge to be 'in the game' this time next week, and I am sure that will secure the action you are hoping for to enable you to succeed with your goals - and therefore next week's weigh-in will be a positive experience for you.
Yes, it is fantastic to read Moreless's progress, she is truely amazing.
Of course we would reply to you - it is a real post - and I am sure I speak for all the Fab 5'ers plus all the participants in the Monday weigh-in group when I say that we are glad you did post to update us on how you're doing and what your plans are for the week ahead.
Let's share in those positive vibes - and here's to us all doing enjoyable exercise for our health, and also sensible eating - which in my book makes the perfect combination towards healthy weight loss.
Contratulations on the weight loss this week Lowcal.
Last week was going well and I'd managed to lose 1lb at the mid point of my week. I think my hormones decided to get involved on Friday and that's where it all started to unravel and felt like I could eat anything that wasn't still in the shop.
29th Feb 2016: Weight: 10st 2.5lbs
7th Mar 2016: Weight: 10st 3.5lbs
That's a gain this week of 1lb.
Hopefully next week will reflect a better loss after the hormones have calmed down.
Next mini goal , which is proving elusive is to get to the upper end of the Healthy BMI range. For me this is 10st 1lb and I keep getting so tantalisingly close. Just need to keep focused and not get sidetracked by weekend treats.
I've even asked for a gym membership from my husband as a birthday present.
You're doing so well doctorwho and mother nature is not going to scupper your plans! Keep plugging away and I'm sure that next monday will see you one step closer to that seemingly elusive healthy BMI. But I have to day, that even if you don't make it, you still look stunning!
I'm very happy for your loss of 2.4pounds and I am so pleased you're breaking into the 12 stone mark which I know was a goal of yours. Very well done lowcal!
As for me I'm keeping a low profile today because first of all I did not start my week really well by sabotaging myself last Monday. I did not let that slip up day discourage me though but I knew it clearly did not help overall as I had two more days over my limit too. Plus I am on my monthly cycle.... I had all these hopes about reaching my healthy bmi this week to coincide with my week 26 but it will not happen I'm afraid.. :(. This morning I was 71.3kg i.e. a loss of 0.25 pounds only this week!!!! I am only a pound away from my healthy BMI but there you are... Oh well. I shall try to reach this goal this week and I'll postpone my "celebration" post for then. Mind you reading Moreless's post has encouraged me to do better this week and I think her post gives enough energy to the forum without needing me to add anything lol.
I've been trying to reflect on why I did this to myself this week when things were going beautifully and I was losing steadily in the past four weeks. I do not really have an asnwer apart from the fact that it looks daunting to approach the healthy zone and to actually be able to say "I am in the healthy range". So maybe I would prefer to stay in "diet" mode for longer. But really I'd rather say to myself there is no "diet" mode or "off diet mode" but rather I have just taken a whole set of new habits which need to fall into place and which I need to make work around my environment, my lifestyle etc. So why being so scared of going under a BMI of 25? No reason really.
This week something funny happened to me: I ordered an item of clothing choosing size 10 by mistake and it was fitting! In fact, it was really fitting so well I only realised my mistake because I went back to order another one for somebody else, and when I checked the website's reference table that's when I saw that I ordered the "wrong" size by mistake!! I was like "what"? How did it even fit me? Crazy!
Also after reading an article on My Fitness Pal blog 10 days ago, on strength exercises that *really* work for Abs, I bought a £7 Ab wheel off Amazon. I have been using it really regularly since it arrived and I can definitely see a difference and I have started to lose inches from my waist (was about time!!). I lost 3! I don't even know how that's possible!
I'm trying to overcome my disappointment at the small loss by looking at everything else I have achieved and how one week (or two or more) won't deter me from my overall aim of getting out for good of the "overweight" BMI scale, of changing my habits, of eating healthily and exercising more.
Oh also I have started to "spiralize" vegetables this week and I have to say I really like it. I bought an Inspiralizer off Amazon and it is so easy to use and so practical I just love it. You basically turn a cucumber or a courgette into spaghetti that you then add to your food and eat as pasta it is really delicious and filling and such a low calorie option. Today I have spiralized a plum and put the lovely "noodles" in a bowl of fat free Greek yogurt, with half a teaspoon of stevia it was decadent!! I feel like I am going to have a lot of fun using this!! The journey continues! Onwards and downards!! Thanks to you all!!!
Firstly, well done for getting back on track again following a spot of self-sabotage early last week. You've done really well to lose 0.25 pound this week despite that, and also despite your monthly cycle, so really well done!
Great that you found you fitted into that Size 10 that you unexpectedly tried on - great that it fitted you so well.
I really like your idea to spiralize a plum - I would never have considered trying that with a plum - what I brilliant idea! I bet that was delicious alongside your Greek yoghurt. Really delicious!
Great that you're enjoying Strength exercises and defining those abs. Losing inches off your waist too. Really good.
Finally, I will look forward to reading your Celebration post very soon, as it will be so great to enjoy reading about your achievements next week - and so here's to you achieving your goal over the coming week. You can do it, Nussaybah.
Thanks for your encouraging words too, which are much appreciated.
I'm experiencing a strange delayed action on the site. I've just replied to you on my thread about waiting for you to post your customary book and come back here to see that you posted 17 mins ago! How odd!
You're not the only person to self-sabotage when they get close to goal and I'm pretty sure others will follow behind you. Maybe we just get so used to being overweight, that we panic at the thought of change and implement delay tactics.
Please try not to focus on the end goal, but enjoy the adventure of your journey. Take up a new and interesting hobby - one that you would never have done when you were overweight. How about roller skating, or iceskating. It'll give you something else to focus on and give you a reminder of how far you've come.
Stop overthinking things, you'll drive yourself nuts trying to come up with the why's and wherefore's. Here's a novel idea, just live in the moment and make each of those moments special
You've done amazingly well so far and I have no doubt that you'll continue to do amazing things, that will inspire and motivate us all.
Have fun will your spiraliser, the hairy dieters and your new skates!
Moreless - Love your suggestion to "live in the moment"
- I remember in my 20's being very depressed at 12 stone thinking I should be nearer to 10 stone.
Having recently been over 15 stone at new year - I keep thinking why wasn't I ecstatically happy at just 12 stones - I could run, swim, ride horses and was really healthy - yet wasted years of my young life feeling sorry for myself because I was heavier than my peers!
Be happy in yourself (if you feel well) and live in the moment!
I have been looking at the spiralizers on Amazon. Can I ask you which one you bought? I was looking at the cheapish ones but not sure if they will be ok. Loved your post by the way.
Great to see you. I remember that you weighed 13 stone 9 pounds last week, so that means you've lost 1 pound this week. Congratulations!!! You're doing really well.
Hi all, im new to this group and i have just weighed in at 81kg (12 st 10lbs). Hoping to lose a bit of weight before my holiday to the south of france at the end of May! xx
Welcome to our Monday group weigh-in session, and it's great that you've joined us! You've shared your starting weight, and I hope that felt ok to do so. It's a brave first step, and hopefully you'll be lighter as time goes on.
Great that you've got a holiday in the South of France to look forward to at the end of May, and that you can be motivated to lose weight for that.
Have you seen our Welcome Newbie thread, that Moreless has put together? It's full of great information and advice, as well as some really delicious recipe ideas (particularly a link by Lucca10, which is also in our Pinned posts section, as well as in the body of Moreless's thread):
Hi lowcal, thank you for your kind words. Yes i have taken a look at the pinned posts and am off to Tesco tonight to buy some ingredients for some yummy dinners this week
Yes it is defiantly a motivator going on holiday, need to be able to squeeze back into a bikini
Well done Lowcal you're in the 12's club now!
Had a really tough week this week (with the final straw being my car being broken into and £300 of possessions being stolen + repairs) but managed to lose 4lbs somehow so that's 1 stone 9lbs since January.
This week i really must get back to the gym and i'd like to lose 3lbs this week.
Oh, I am so sorry to hear you've had your car broken into and your possessions stolen, plus the cost of repairs etc, that is awful. I hope you're feeling reasonably ok in the circumstances. Things like that can really shake us up.
Congratulations on losing 4 pounds this week, that is a phenomenal amount to lose in 1 week, wow! You've achieved 1 stone 9 pounds since January, that is fantastic! I love the fact you're wearing your 'I did it!' badge - it looks great!
I know you're planning to get back to the gym this week, so hope you enjoy those sessions, and good luck with your goal to lose 3 pounds this week.
Well done Lowcal.I couldn't quite keep up with you.Lost 1.75lb this week and had 2 friends comment on my loss so far.I told them I was making room for Easter eggs!
You were very close indeed, Congratulations on losing 1.75 pounds this week, and also having a couple of friends who commented on your loss so far, that is really great!
Making room for Easter Eggs - well, that is an option! Hopefully you'll be enjoying your slimmer figure by Easter and might have other options in mind too.
Hope you have another really great week. You're making excellent progress.
Well done to everyone! I was having a read of the posts on my lunch break today and it is so inspiring, especially Moreless' story! I just want to say thank you to everyone, it's really motivating to read how well everyone is doing.
I was a bit nervous about weighing myself today as once again I have not been perfect but have mostly stuck to my calorie allowances. So last week I was 14st 13.5lbs and this week I am 14st 10.75lbs so a 2.75lb loss! Which is my biggest loss so far and brings me to a 7.25lb loss in 4 weeks. I can't believe I'm half a stone gone already
Well it wasn't the result I was hoping for but today I weighed 11 stone 8.5 pounds so that is a loss of 1.5 pounds. I have lost at least 4 lbs in the first week in the past but after a friends birthday celebration on Friday night and Mother's Day yesterday I guess it was a tricky week. I must try not to be disappointed as a loss is a loss and I just need to pick myself up and focus on this week now. Hope everyone else did well and you all have a good week.
This is my first weigh in and it was taken at the gym. a staggering 113.3 kg I do believe. I will check again tomorrow.
I am at the moment planning on not watching calorie per se as I need to regain my fitness, and calorie reduction can reduce my energy levels to exercise.
But I do though have to have a lot more discipline on what I eat/drink to lose weight; as well as ensuring tha tI do exercise most days - even just a brisk power walk. Also, my weight may increase to begin with as I build up muscle bulk....
Welcome to the Monday group weigh-in, and thanks so much for joining us. It can often be a bit of a surprise to take that first weigh-in, and post the results, so well done for taking that brave step and hope it felt reasonably ok!
You've got good plans for going ahead, in terms of working towards regaining your fitness levels, as I am sure that will help your health and well-being, and you'll be buidling up your muscle bulk, so you are right that you may increase your weight a little at first.
I would like to give you our 'Welcome Newbie' post, that was put together by Moreless, and is a really good read of things that people have found helpful within the forum, and so it's worth a read to see if it will complement your information and existing resources.
5.50pm To those people who've just popped in to weigh, one of the Fab 5'ers will be with you soon. I'm just putting my dinner on to cook, but I'll be back later, and we will ensure that you all have a reply at some point this evening. Great that you're joining us for this weigh-in, and I shall look forward to reading every post as well.
Happy days. At last a big 2lb loss for me this week. It breaks back past that stone so gone down a number on the stones measurement. That feels good. I am the most impatient dieter ever..... Rarely lose more than half to one pound. So going to have a tight week to maintain this loss. total now 8 pound in 7 weeks.
Wow, these are indeed Happy Days - you have lost 2 pounds, and that is fantastic! Congratulations! You've broken past the stone mark, and into another number - that is brilliant! You've lost a total of 8 pounds in 7 weeks, and that is excellent progress. I know you feel inpatient sometimes, but your focus and determination is seeing you through, so really well done.
Oh dear Alison, your patience is being sorely tested! Can you think of a reason for your weight to remain static? Do you weigh and measure everything and log everything you eat and drink? Are you sticking to the correct number of calories? It may just be that your body is rebelling and all will come good next week
I shall keep my fingers crossed for a really good week for you
Thanks. Need to make an extra effort on the exercise front I think. And maybe change my routine at breakfast. I have got into a bit of a rut with it. Oh well, at least I know I can maintain when I eventually (very eventually!) reach my goal!
Just read your mention of changing your breakfast routine - there are quite a few breakfast ideas in the Pinned post (right-hand-side of homepage) called Breakfasts - weekday vs weekends, if you haven't seen it and would like to take a look. Hope you found something to suit you.
Well done everyone on the fantastic weight loss! I'm really excited this week as I've just reached my first stone off! End of week 6, lost 2lbs, bringing me down to 13 stone 8lbs! One stone off! woohoo!!
I was 14st 13lbs when I started NHS 12 week Diet. I am pleased with results so far.
End Week 1 14st 12lbs
End Week 2 14st 10lbs
End week 3 14st 7lbs
End week 4 lost 1lb
I now weight 14st 6lbs
My weight loss is largely due to measuring and weighing portions of food and reducing the amount of Bread and Potatoes. Eating lots of fruit and Vedge for snacks.
Good luck everyone I hope all is going well for you.
Hi Old guy - well that seems very respectable steady weight loss. And by my reckoning that is a clear half stone in 4 weeks - great news. That weighing and portion control is clearly working - keep at it it clearly works.
EXcellent weight loss this week Lowcal! Gained 1lb this week :o( Guess ate to many goodies when taken out for mother's day yesterday as have been quite good all week!
I'm chuffed! This week I managed to lose the "birthday" pound I gained last week plus two additional pounds. At the end of week 5 I have lost a total of 9 pounds. I can't say it's been at all easy and it's mainly felt like two steps forward and one step back but the total loss has motivated me to keep going.
Super well done - that focus really paid off- shrugged off the birthday pound and another two to boot:-). And 9 pounds in total - fantastic - nothing like losing weight to providing the motivation to lose more weight.
Well done to both of you Lowcal and Moreless on your loss this week. Back in the 12s Lowcal, I knew you could do it 😀
This week I have lost 0.8lb down from 10st 13lbs to 10st 12.2lbs. Even upping exercise, it's a slow process.
I had a 'light bulb' moment at 2.30 in the morning! Every week, in 'payment' for looking after my 3 grandchildren two days a week, I get Chinese takeaway delivered (very handy as I don't have a car). The realisation was that this was a reward - I am being rewarded by food! No, no, no, this mindset is something that I'm trying to lose. It's not my daughter's fault, this arrangement has been going on for years. So now, this week, I pledge to only have either a non-food reward or none at all until I have lost a stone. Then as a treat I will have a small takeaway and then no more until another stone has gone, and so on. I don't smoke, don't drink, haven't had a husband for 28 years - a girl has to have something to look forward to heehee.
Well done anon-e mouse- just under another pound loss. It is a slow process- we didn't put weight on overnight. You are steadily losing weight so all good. Only you will know if the Chinese is the game changer - and worth giving up. Chinese takeaway has long gone in my diet( I can put 3 pounds on overnight!!). Roast dinners are on hold until Easter.... So we make sacrifices for the long term gain
This is my first time starting the weigh-in. My starting weight is 11 stone 13 lbs as of today. I want to lose another 1 stone and 13 lbs to get to 10 stone
I'm unsure of my body measurements as I don't have a measuring for that but I shall try find out for next week
Thank you and good luck and well done to everyone :))
Evening Kat96 and welcome. A number of us are where you are weight wise - so you are in good company. There are a number of pinned posts to this thread that are worth a look. Tracking your weight and measurements is great because even when the scales are not behaving -the inches coming off around vital statistics- can be very comforting. Check out My fitness pal to record your measurements- so you check progress by graph - and up to you if you use any of the other features
We look forward to hearing from you next week - Good luck
Congratulations Lowcal on that loss. You are in the 12s now!. I was too busy to post last week but determined to touch base this week. I stuck last week anyway I think (around 11 stone 5.4 STILL ) , but I am now 11 stone 3.8 pounds which is a loss I think over the two weeks of 1.8 pounds.
I have started on the bike and running machine in the gym, and I went out for the very first time (since I broke my ankle last year) on my real bike yesterday- along the sea front in the winter sun and it was fabulous!
My partner is making a me a graph (he is more mathematical than I am) with the trajectory of weight loss you want over the months, against which you plot your actual progress each week. We'll see if it works, as I do keep losing track! Managed two evenings without alcohol last week- not brillliant but it made a difference. Soooo busy at work at the moment, no time to eat!! And on the tomato juice tonight again - cheers!
TC - what a lovely cheery post - so much to celebrate. The weight loss - fantastic- all going in the right direction. But I think the getting back on your bike and being back out there - is a glorious achievement - your joy shines through--making me smile re-reading your post.
Glad you are able to stay on top of things despite the pressures of work:-). - I am on the ginger beer tonight - cheers me dear
Well done Lowcal I am back to 11.2 this week so 1/2lb off I think, I have another social week so I will try and maintain just off to readmorless post I had a reply on Gontis old post about wearing a dress, what has come out of it I now know she has lost 18 ins off her waist- what a bunch of losers we are😇
Good evening. Hope everybody is well. Week 2 and another pound off. Pleased with that. This week is going to be more of a challenge with a lunch out & girls night planned. Will try to compensate for this on other days but not promising 😉Wishing you all a good week! xxx
yp we have to stray from the straight and narrow, try and have some lower calorie drinks diet tonic ( with gin if you must) have a good time- not too good ......and face the scales next week they won't bite and neither do we 😜
Thanks Prin. Hoping to find a lower calorie drink. Just to be awkward I don't like tonic or most spirits. I used to drink vodka & diet coke years ago so may give that a try. Think I'll need a lot of diet coke to disguise the taste 😫 The things we do! 😂
Hi all, been a few weeks since I last posted. Original weight was 148lbs I think, am down to 146.5lbs this evening but it's taken more like a month than a week for me to lose that 1.5lbs! My target for next Monday is to drop 1 lb. Have two work events on in the evenings and a baby shower on Sunday so will need to be organised with my meal planning and exercise sessions. Did a big veg shop this evening so hopefully that'll help!
Also, I have been meaning to post this recipe for Porridge Bread which is great if you want something healthy on the go. It is super easy to make! The oil can be substituted with an egg for those who prefer to reduce the calorie count further. I find it sometimes needs a little longer in the oven but its so delicious and filling once its baked through and cooled. Throw in whatever nuts and seeds you have to hand too as they go really well with the other ingredients.
Great to see you, and it's been a while. Congratulations on losing 1.5 pounds over the past month - I'll divide that by 4 weeks to make an average weekly loss of 0.375 pound. Hope that's ok!? I like to get the amount ready for Ruth, when she does her weekly stats.
I have copied and pasted the link to the Porridge Bread to my file of recipes, as I am thrilled at the prospect of making this. I have loved the recipes that Ruth_Canal_Runner has done in the past using oats and great ingredients, and this recipe looks really easy to make - like you say, nuts and seeds can be added to taste. I am looking forward to trying it out when I do my next batch of cake. Thank you for sharing it!
0-0.5lb loss per week is a good way to summarise, I've followed your posts now so won't go AWOL next week.
It was Ruth who encouraged me to share it actually, I kept forgetting! I am going to make it tomorrow night so will try to take a photo to post to go along with the recipe.
Am also going to try the below quiche as I think it would work well for a packed lunch along with a side salad, will report back next week!
I am excited that you'll be doing the Porridge Bread and posting a picture, that will be really great! Also, your plan to try the Red Onion Crustless Quiche too, that looks like a really delicious quiche!
You're living up to your name, Food_Lover, and I am really looking forward to your posts. Glad that Ruth encouraged you to share. That is really great!
Also, noted your summary of your weight loss average at 0-0.5 pound per week - Ruth will find that helpful for her stats reckoning.
Hey guys late post here but just to say gained 1lb and struggled to stay on track tonight epic fail! Inspired by you's all though! Glad to be on this forum motivates me to bring it back. Nighty night xx
Glad you're feeling inspired by all the posts on the weigh-in thread today and tonight. You've only gained 1 pound, so it's defintely NOT an epic fail. Just a minor blip in the scheme of things. Hopefully you can pinpoint the factors contributing to that pound gain, and hopefully you'll be able to make a few subtle changes, and 'bring it back' for next week.
11.30pm I am going to bed now, and I think most of the Fab 5'ers have also turned in for the night - not sure about Prin, she might be a night owl still. Night night Prin, if you're out there!
Everyone - it's been a great day and evening, and both weigh-in threads have been brilliant - well done to all the losers, and also the maintainers, and if you happened to gain this week, then let's hope you'll be joining the losers next week, all being well. The great thing is that you joined the weigh-in and hopefully found it supportive and helpful.
I've certainly enjoyed reading the posts today - and will look forward to catching up with everyone at next Monday's weigh-in - and also out and about in the forum too.
To any late night weighers - please do post - as maybe Prin is still around, but otherwise I will be checking the posts tomorrow morning and will reply to you then.
Hi - this is my first time posting My starting weight is 13st 5lbs - so I've got nearly five stone to lose - unless I magically grow a few metres. Current goal is to get under 13st - so I'm going to start couch to 5k and stop snacking and then work on improving my eating habits
Welcome to the Monday group weigh-in session, and I hope you'll enjoy being part of this weigh-in group, and also that you'll enjoy the forum community generally - there are a few things going on in the community currently, and I'd like to give you a link to the Welcome Newbie post that Moreless has put together, so you can have a read through:
Many of us are doing the NHS 12 week plan, which is really good.
You've shared your starting weight, and I hope that felt ok to do that, as it's a brave first step. You've set your first goal, to get under 13 stone and into the 12's, and it's great that you're starting Couch to 5k alongside. Your initial goals to stop snacking and improve your eating habits are sensible areas to focus on, and I hope the link to the Newbie pack will help you with some ideas and tips.
Well done to all those who managed to get in on the weigh-in ... I was not so fortunate as after signing up earlier today and, full of enthusiasm, I headed for the scales to log my starting weight only to discover the battery was dead!! Digital scales seemed the way to go for accuracy when I bought them but today I was cursing that I hadn't gone for good old-fashioned 'swingometer' type. However. I didn't let that take the wind from my sails: I have had day one of healthy eating, avoided all my unhealthy habits (buttered toast, crisps, cheese) and went shopping to stock up on salads, veg, hummus and olives ... I am lucky enough to like food so much that I actually really enjoy the healthy stuff too :-). I also purchased a new battery - one of those silly flat things that I forgot to check the size of but hope to have selected accurately based on my observation that it was slightly smaller than a 'ten pee piece' :-).
And just to make sure I stayed on track, my dogs got a super long walk and a good little romp up a few hills to make sure I got out of breath. I enjoyed it and felt all chuffed with my 'Day One'. Eldest dog wasn't quite so impressed ;-).
Best of luck everyone, keep positive and I'll get my starting weight sorted tomorrow.
Welcome to the Monday group weigh-in session, and it's great to have you on board with us. Thanks for your encouraging words, and I hope that we can also support and encourage you on your own weight loss journey. It sounds like you've had a good first day, and you've bought some healthy produce to ensure you have lots of healthy foods to choose from during the week in planning and preparing your meals and healthy snacks.
I bet your dogs enjoyed that super long walk and romp up a few hills - sounds like you have the perfect environment for some great walks. Hopefully your eldest dog will also gain some fitness, but hopefully you'll pace things anyway so you all enjoy the experience.
Just come back and tell us your starting weight when you've got your battery situation sorted, and Ruth_Canal_Runner will include you in our stats - she comes in later in the week to record the stats, so there's plenty of time.
I have just spotted your late post in the main body of the forum, so I'm just copying and pasting it into this Monday group weigh-in thread, as I know you wanted to weigh-in here, but had trouble with your scales battery.
So, your results can be counted in this week's stats (Ruth usually does them later in the week), and here is your copied and pasted weigh-in post:
"Although at 15st 12lbs (222lbs) I am definitely in the obese range I was at least pleased I hadn't tipped 16st. My ideal weight range would be 11-12st but that seems too far away so my first goal is to lose half a stone (7lbs). Ultimately I would be delighted to get 13st and then if possible, 12st. I am 5' 11' and was advised that 11st 7lbs would be best for me but that is a little too challenging for me as I haven't been that weight since I was a teenager (and I wasn't overweight then) and am now 48. 12st would be a dream, 13st seems achievable so let's see where this journey takes me."
Lilybob, it's great that you've set your first goal to lose half a stone, and I wish you an enjoyable weight loss journey, and look forward to seeing you in future weigh-ins, and around and about in the forum.
Thanks for your lovely response Lowcal...I have just found it as I appear to lose my way around the forums and newsfeeds too easily. On Day Three now and thoroughly enjoying it - already feeling better through more careful food choices :-). However, I do have a question as I did use the calculator to work out my initial calorie intake which came in around 1750 per day. I knocked it back to 1650 with half an eye on the standard suggestion of 1400. It seems with my healthy food choices so far that I am struggling to make up the calories to 1650. I do know that under-eating can have a negative impact on weightloss but I am genuinely feeling satisfied and nicely full after meals - all of which include good carbs, generally a protein and lots of leafy, veggy stuff. I am actually closer to 1400 calories a day so will this have a slowing impact (the starving, slowing metabolism) and if so, does anyone have any suggestions as to what snacks I might add to increase the calories if I need to.
I could easily whack them up with a take-away or something cooked in a creamy, buttery sauce but that seems to be a little pointless if i am trying to eat healthily. I don't really have a sweet tooth so a mars bar treat isn't really going to do it either.
I would say that as you're feeling satisfied with the amount you're eating, then maybe continue with that, as you seem to be meeting your needs. I think the slowing of metabolism etc is more related to very low calorie diets. I am just giving you my own personal view there - someone with more knowledge and expertise may have a different view, but those are my thoughts on it. I am a lay person with a personal interest, and I've done quite a bit of reading, but I've not got any qualifications in nutrition, so don't feel best placed to give you a definitive answer. Purely my personal thoughts. You could always put out a post in the forum, to enable you to get more viewpoints on it? This Monday group is usually frequented on Mondays, but later in the week it is much quieter, as people usually only come here to weigh-in, so it's unlikely many people will read your query here, as they'll be looking out for next Monday's thread at this late stage. Hope that makes sense.
Sounds like you're enjoying your week and having healthy delicious foods. Enjoy your weekend.
Lowcal
Good morning I'm joining late for a tuesday morning weigh in as I was at my boyfriends over the wknd where there aren't any scales. I'm reluctantly posting a gain of 1lb to 10st3. I'm still within a healthy bmi by 3lbs though so I shouldn't complain! Last week was a great week for exercise. This week I'm going to focus more on diet, and avoiding alcohol especially. Also I'm reintroducing wheat for gluten intolerance tests which will very likely have affected things. So I know what I'm looking out for this week.
Congrats Lowcal on getting back into the 12s. I hope everyone else has had similar successes especially those on the strength challenge. I'll catch up on everything better over the next couple of days when I have more time. Hope this week goes well
Great to see you! Also great to hear that you've stayed well within your maintaining range, but I can understand you're feeling some disappointment about having gained 1 pound this week, as I know you were keen to lose some weight. I'm sure that the re-introduction of wheat for gluten intolerance tests has probably affected your weight as well. Hope those tests go well.
Your March Strength Challenge is very popular, and extremely motivating, so thanks again for setting that Challenge. It's really great! Glad you had a good week for exercise last week, and hope you enjoyed it.
I can see your focus for this week is more on the diet side of things, and good luck with your plan to avoid alcohol.
Thanks so much for your kind and encouraging words, and I know you'll enjoy reading the posts through later in the week, when you have more time. Thanks as always for your great stats abilities - as I know that people do appreciate having the weekly stats, they are extemely motivating. Thank you!
Good morning all Lowcal so pleased you're on the downward trail again! I was back up to 18st yesterday morning but couldn't get on the thread last night to post :/ I've lost track a bit but think this is a 3&3/4lb gain..
I am not despairing though, I am ramping up my exercise this week to get to the end of the 80 day challenge with kms to spare. After Ed has done his 10k on Sunday we are going to work on my running which has been on a back burner because I still have a cough and when I cough and run I can't breath (and let's not mention the loss of bladder control )
I'm working out a weight loss / inch loss chart (felt tips and paper cos I'm fairly computer illiterate!) My end goal is 75lb loss for now and then I'll see how I feel as and when I get there..
Great to see you! I am so sorry to hear you couldn't access the thread yesterday to post, and thanks for persevering and getting here today. I'll put you down for a 3.75 pound gain, but I will also double check later, to make sure it's correct, so I'll amend it later if necessary. I am glad to hear you're not despairing regarding that result, and that you're taking control and ramping up your exercise to enable you to get to the end of the Around the World Challenge with kms to spare - that will be an achievement!
Great that you're going to be working on your running too - that is great to bring it from the back burner to the forefront, and I hope you enjoy it. But I hope your cough will get better soon - please pace yourself and ensure you don't overdo things. Your health is the most important thing!
Never apologise for an essay - it is great to be updated on your week's progress, and good luck with your goal for this week. You'll be back in those 17's really soon, maybe even tomorrow!
Wishing you a great week ahead.
Lowcal
I tried on phone yesterday but it obviously didn't work; in the interests of the confessional;
I was 11,2 yesterday which is one down from week previous. However I had gained 2 that week, so......
anyway back on the downslope so that's a relief. Feeling tired again which is a pain. Hope to get to gym tonight.
Really sorry you couldn't get into the thread via your phone yesterday - and really glad you've made it today. Great to see you!
We count the stats for last week only, so the previous week is already way in the past, so don't dwell on that too much! You've lost 1 pound this week, and Congratulations for that - it's really good!
You're back on the downward slope and glad you're feeling relieved about that. I hope you managed to get to the gym tonight, as per your plan, and hope you enjoy the session.
Happy Tuesday, and hope you have a great week ahead.
Was 10 stone 3 last week, 10 stone 2 this week. A small win, bit gutted it wasn't any more, but I know where I went wrong at the weekend, so something to consider for next week!
No worries, you've remembered to post today, and it's great to see you!
Wow, you've lost 1 pound this week, that is really great. Congratulations!
I know you're feeling a bit gutted that you didn't lose more, but it really is a good amount to lose in a week, so I do hope you'll allow yourself to celebrate it as a win, as it is really good.
We're the people that answer all the posts on the weigh-in thread
Apart from Lowcal, we have no official capacity, we're just enthusiastic volunteers
The weigh-in thread is Lowcal's baby and she valiantly ran it alone for ages, before the sheer size of it necessitated the recruitment of extra help and that's where the rest of us came in.
Ruth is our brilliant statistician/mathematician extraordinaire.
Prin and suzybenj have been around for some time.
I'm the newbie
Hope I've got my facts straight and that this answers your question elacol
Great to see you, and you're not too late, as Ruth usually does our stats later in the week, so you're fine!
At least you know why you gained 1 pound this week - and therefore if you get back on track with your food intake etc, then you should soon see the back of that pound and hopefully be on the onwards and downwards trend once more.
Hi this is a late weigh in as I was away at my granddaughters Baby Dedication. So I have lost another 0.5lb since last weigh in. This is unbelievable with having had a family week end. So I know weigh 13 stone 12.5lb. Along way to go but at least I am slowly heading in the right direction.
It's great to see you, and I'm glad you got here for a late weigh-in. Better late than never! Ruth hasn't done the weekly stats yet, she usually pops in later in the week. She's an amazing stats woman.
I hope your Grand-daughter's Baby Dedication went well, what a lovely occasion! Congratulations on losing 0.5 pound since your last weigh-in. You are heading in the right direction, and it's great that you're having an onwards and downwards trend. Well done, and wishing you another great week ahead.
After a very healthy weekend of lots of exercise and sensible eating - Monday and Tuesday have been a disaster!
I have not really got my head around eating less - and am cross at my self as 6 months of focus would see me back to a sensible weight and be able to wear all the clothes in my wardrobe and do all the things I love doing with ease.
I am trying to exercise more, but it is the eating thing. Fine in the day while at work - but the evenings are bad. It is not like I have good things in the house either. No cakes, biscuits or chocolate. Just things that are good for you.
The problem is I can eat anything - not fussy at all! Dry oatcakes, boiled rice, toast etc
Ideas how folk overcome this? Feeling like I have let myself down - was so motivated in January but that has gone?😖
I would suggest that you put this question as a Post, because then you'll be able to get a range or responses and hopefully some helpful tips on how people have overcome these issues. If you post here (Monday group weigh-in) it's unlikely many people will see your query, as the weigh-in sessions are usually busy on Mondays and therefore people probably won't often look back here beyond Monday or even Tuesday.
So I would recommend maybe posting your query as a Post today, and then you'll generate some helpful responses.
My comment to you would be that it might help to pre-plan your meals and snacks, and try to make those as interesting and palatable as you can. I know you said you can eat anything, but try to think about the nutrient balance of your food and the flavour, and therefore make your meals varied and interesting. That would be my personal recommendation - but you'll get lots of suggestions hopefully with a post to the community.
Hi, I forgot to post my weigh in on Monday but I weighed 10st 5.75lbs. Sorry its so late. I can't remember what I last posted but think I have put a little on due to not moving about so much.
Thanks for copying and pasting your weight here, that's great. Glad I posted the Moussaka post so you remembered to post here. I'm just dashing off to do a few things, but I will ensure I try to remember to look up your previous weight so that we can work out what the difference is. I'll probably be able to do that later tomorrow, and otherwise, Ruth will be able to do that when she comes to do the stats. But I always try to put the amount there for her to make her job a bit easier.
it's understandable that you might have gained a little weight when you've not been moving around as much, so I'd like to wish you a good remainder of the week, and look forward to catching up with you at next Monday's weigh-in.
I'm just doing the weekly stats, as Ruth_Canal_Runner is very busy for the next couple of weeks, so I'm providing some respite cover for her. I have looked up when you last weighed in with us at the Monday group, and it was 22nd February, but at that time you reported your weight as 12 stone 4.74 pounds, and at that time Moreless replied to you to say it wouldn't be long before you'd be in the 11's. Hence as your weigh-in on Monday 7th March was 10 stone 5.75 pounds, I thought I'd better see what your previous weigh-in result was - and on 11th January you reported your weight as 10 stone 13 pounds, so I think you must have made a mistake on 22nd February, and that your weight was actually 10 stone 4.74 pounds at that time.
Hence, that was 2 weeks ago, so I have divided the difference in weight by 2, to give an average weekly gain of 0.5 pound, and that is the result I'll put in the stats for this week. I hope this is ok. You felt you had gained a little due to not moving around so much, so this is probably what you were anticipating in terms of a potential weekly gain. You'll hopefully soon have that off again and good luck for the next weigh-in on Monday.
I'm late, I'm late, for a very important date! Apologies for my tardiness Lowcal and all, I've not been very sociable this week, having a poor week pain wise, taking a lot of pills and not sleeping properly. Just a general grump bucket this week!
Firstly....WOOOOO HOOOOO Lowcal, what a great result for you, so pleased the 12's aren't eluding you - very well done!
Secondly, Mother's Day?...hmm...more like "Mother's Weekend"! The weekend contained take away food, there were scones, there was cheesecake, it was a recipe for disaster. So I knew it was coming on Monday. I gained 3/4 pound this week (I did weigh on Monday but as I say, I dodge people and talking when I'm in a bad mood usually lol). It could have been worse, but I am kind of annoyed that I had banked 1/4 pound loss and then went up anyway. Oh well, maybe it would have been a whole pound if I didn't have the 1/4 pound in the bank eh?
Today, I seem to have lost that 3/4 pound I put on, the scales are registering the same weight as last Monday now. Will they or won't they budge by the coming Monday...ooh the suspense! I don't expect much of a change, I've been loading up on painkillers, swelling/bloating a bit, not sleeping properly (2 nights running I saw 6am on the clock and hadn't even managed to close my eyes) and not even doing much around the house, just can't seem to get out of that pain at the moment which is a total bummer. I am currently wearing the brave face "fixed grin" (through gritted teeth!) so that I can check in with you good folk (better late than never).
I'll shush up now, because if I get into a long rant about being frustrated and grumpy due to pain, I may never stop! I hope everyone is having a good week and staying "on the wagon" without any hiccups. xx
I am really happy to see you today, and glad you made it - and I'll put down 0.75 pound that you gained (which was your Monday weight change), I think that's minimal considering it was Mother's Day 'weekend' and therefore quite a challenging time for many people! You're not too late to post your weight, as Ruth hasn't done the stats yet - she always does it later in the week.
I really sympathise with you that you're experiencing so much pain currently, and I really hope that you can get some relief eventually, and that you sleep better tonight maybe. Wearing the brave face - "fixed grin" (through gritted teeth) - which you demonstrated really well with that very expressive emoticon, must be tough, as I can imagine that you probably want to scream and shout and let it all out. I'm glad you've had a bit of a rant, as it's better out than in, and I really hope that you get some relief from the pain soon.
Wishing you well for the remainder of the week, it's getting ever closer to the weekend! So have a good weekend.
Hi there everyone. I am totally new to this and have never shared my weight with ANYONE ...NOT EVER!!! Here it goes.
On Monday the 7th of March I weighed 15st 10.5 lbs. I am 5" 2` tall.
My aim is to lose 1st by 7th June and another 1st by August. I am going on holiday at Christmas so even another half a stone by then. Overall I would like to lose my target weight of 10 st by next summer.
Is that possible??
I would like to join this weigh in programme and thank Lowcal Administrator for pointing me in the right direction.
A very warm welcome to you, and thank you so much for joining us in the Monday group weigh-in. It's great that you have your weight for Monday 7th March, as that means that we'll be able to count your first week's results when you next weigh-in on Monday 14th March, and I must say we are priviledged that you have shared your weight for the first time here with us. I know it's a very big step to do that, and I think you're really brave and I hope you feel ok for sharing it.
You've set your goals for June and August, and it's great that you've got the motivation of a holiday at Christmas to look forward to, and therefore another weight-loss goal for then. You've asked if it's possible to achieve your ultimate goal weight by next summer of 10 stone. To be honest, my Maths is terrible, as I would otherwise sit down and calculate how much you could potentially lose - but essentially 1 to 2 pounds of weight loss per week are most usual and also safe and sustainable - so you can work it out from that hopefully.
Some people lose a few more pounds in their first week, but usually it levels off to 1 to 2 pounds per week, and it can also slow down and plateau from time to time too. Taking body measurements can also help, especially on those occasions when the scales stick, as you can sometimes see differences in the body measurements or the fit of your clothes etc, so it's not all about the scales.
It's great that you're going to be on board with us, and I hope you have a great week ahead.
Most of us are doing the NHS 12 week plan, which I would recommend, but all the links etc are in the Welcome Newbie pack, or you can access the 12 week plan via the link in the upper section, entitled Weight Loss NHS. Maybe have a read through to see if it might be something you'd like to try.
Good luck, and wishing you a great Friday and a lovely weekend, and look forward to catching up with you on Monday at the next weigh-in session.
Do you know what? For the first time in years I am actually looking forward to addressing my weight and am finally feeling encouraged to do so. It is also a huge challenge for me and am quite scared and excited all at the same time! It`s weird but I kinda feel relieved that I have told someone what I weighed as it is a very personal and embarrassing issue.
Do I just sign in on Monday and follow the thread about my weigh in? I have been looking on the NHS 12 week plan for ideas and that is helping.
Finally, I am quite overwhelmed by the positive responses from you all, it has certainly removed all traces of doubt that I had. Upwards and onwards.
I felt exactly the same way after I'd declared my weight for the first time ever. It's so liberating and no longer your dirty little secret. You've taken a huge and significant step towards the new you, Ollio and I applaud you!
That's exactly what to do on monday and I would advise reading everyone's posts and feel free to congratulate, or commiserate, as the interaction between us, is what keeps us all motivated and encouraged
This is an extremely positive forum, never doubt that. It's supported me for 6 months and I shall be eternally grateful
I am so glad you're feeling hopeful, as that will really stand you in good stead, and I hope you have a lovely weekend, as it's very nearly here! Hope you enjoy the plan, and look forward to catching up with you on Monday - I hope you'll enjoy the weigh-in and enjoy participating in the forum.
