Hi everyone,

This is the 'Afternoon/Evening Session' of the Fab 5'ers Monday weigh-in group, so please post in this thread if you're weighing in with us this afternoon and/or this evening!

The Morning Session has gone really well, and please have a look at the thread if you want to catch up with how everyone is doing there:

healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh...

This week, I am pleased to announce that we have a new Fab 5’er, hence the thread name “Lowcal and the Fab 5’ers” is now true – there is myself (as the founder of the Monday group weigh-in, and the Fab 5’ers team consist of Prin, Suzybenj, Ruth_Canal_Runner, Moreless and our new Fab 5’er: LotToLose). Hence if you join us for today’s weigh-in, one or more of us will respond to you. However, please be patient with us, as we do have other commitments, but we do our very best to get back to you as soon as we can. If you’d like to read LotToLose’s achievements then please see this link:

healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh...

I know many of you have already come across LotToLose, as she is a motivating person within many of the current challenges that are going on in the forum.

I have done the stats this week, and it also helped to motivate me for the week ahead, as they are really inspiring:

Total people posting on last Monday's thread: 115.

Total overall weight lost: 62.6 pounds (28.39 kilos).

Total people who lost weight: 57 (101.75 pounds lost) (46.15 kilos).

Total people who gained weight: 23 (39.15 pounds gained) (17.76 kilos).

Total people who maintained their weight: 17.

Total people starting out on their weight loss journey/plan: 15.

Total people who didn't disclose their weight gain/loss: 3.

 Note for Newbies:

If you are joining this weigh-in group thread for the first time today, then welcome. Just introduce yourself and share your starting weight (if you feel comfortable to do so) and your initial weight loss goals – setting yourself mini-goals leading to your ultimate weight loss goal is particularly helpful. You could also make a note of your body measurements – sometimes the scales stick at a particular weight, but there can be body measurement changes which are very motivating. It’s not all about the scales afterall – it’s how you feel in yourself.

You can always refer to previous weigh-in threads if you want to see what other people typically post (just click on my profile, Lowcal, and you’ll be able to see a list of all previous posts which are all clearly dated).

The link to the latest Monday group weigh-in thread is always in the ‘Events’ section (right-hand-side of the home-page) so it’s easy to find it once you know where to look!

Also, if you’ve not already seen it, then take a moment to read the ‘Welcome Newbie’ pack which is a Pinned post (situated on right hand side of homepage) which has been collated by Fab 5’er Moreless.  The other Challenges taking place in the forum currently are also in the Pinned Posts section too.

Regarding my own weigh-in results: Last Monday I was 13 stone 0.8 pounds, and today I weigh: 12 stone 11.8 pounds, so I’ve lost 3 pounds this week!  I have been inspired by Sueper’s Easter Bunny Challenge. It has really kept me on track, and I was determined to achieve my goal to lose 2.8 pounds this week, and I am so happy that I achieved 3 pounds.

I only managed to get to the gym once – instead of twice, but I did do my Strength exercises (inspired by Ruth_Canal_Runner’s March Strength Challenge) so feel good about that. I have also kept up my Kms for FizzyLiz’s 20,000 Leagues under the Sea challenge and I’m on track for MarmiteRehoming’s 4th July Challenge.  So many great Challenges, and I would thoroughly recommend doing these and participating in them, if you are thinking about it. I know many of you are already involved – I’m sure you agree it’s motivating and great fun!

If you're look forward to FizzyLiz's challenge, it's time to post the results tomorrow (i.e. Tuesday!) so her post will be in the forum tomorrow.

My goal for next week is to try to lose 1 pound, and to get to the gym at least a couple of times, as well as keep up my daily walking.

Onwards and downwards – let’s keep motivating one another, we can do this!!! ☺

Lowcal that is fantastic to loose 3 lbs! You ae so inspiring!

I had 1 meal with family and I maintained my weight. 11.10 Oh well never mind! This week I am going to eat more regular healthy meals and every 3 hours not like I was doing now eating 3 large meals. 3 smaller meals plus 2 snacks. Snacks will consist of fruit. You all heard me this is my plan for this week and I hope to loose 2 lbs. Plus drinking tons of fluid and doing my strength exercises meaning squeezing my pelvis floor muscle otherwise their is no point in doing anything! Time to get very harsh with myself and that is the only way I get on with stuff! As I would love to loose this 10 lbs already. Was 11.9 on Thursday, Never mind! New week new beginning!

A maintain is always better than a gain bd :)

You know exactly what to do and now that easter is almost past, you should be able to knuckle down and get rid of those pounds :)

Onwards and downwards :)

Yes! I better go right now to stock on fruits and vegg as that is my sugar. Otherwise I will eat wrong foods!

Thanks bd! :)

Kicking those K's does take a heck of a long time! :D

I better learn from all of you! You are all making me so jealous! BD just be more active!

moreless profile image
morelessAdministrator7 stone in reply tobakersdozen

No, you have to be careful bd. I've upped the exercise, but it's made me tired and hungry, so now I have to work out how much exercise to do and how much to eat, to stop me gaining weight! :o

bakersdozen profile image
bakersdozen in reply tomoreless

Just said that cause last night I was too much on the web and ended up going to bed at 1 instead of sorting out my place and going to bed at 12 and get up earlier.

Well I am very impressed as you still lost weight. You must be something right.

Thank you, I obviously hit on the balance between food and exercise, I just need to remember it now! :D

I was out walking my dog at 4.30am, with a torch! When you get up early, you can't stay awake too late :D

bakersdozen profile image
bakersdozen in reply tomoreless

You are hilarious walking around with a torch. My goodness you are up so early. I am struggling to get up 7:45 never mind at that hour! By the time I will finish talking to you now I hope I will get up early. You are changing me first you made me walk and therefore I finally got new bedding and now getting up early. Keep motivating me!

moreless profile image

Would you like me to give you an alarm call when I get up? :)

Trouble is, I'm starting to wilt now, so it won't be long before I'm off to my bed :)

bakersdozen profile image
bakersdozen in reply tomoreless

I got the answer you go to bed way before me.

Thanks I have to just get out of bed and not lie in. That is my problem. I just have to force myself out of bed early!

You can't stay up late at night and expect to be able to get up early, you need your sleep :)

I hope I will loose next week. Well I am just going to keep on screaming to myself to be more active and eat healthier and drink more than the trick will work as it is a shame to put on 1.5 stones especially now when at long last my family have noticed that I look better and my clothes are starting to fit. I just feel fitter and healthier. So starting from now just restocked up my place with fruits and vegg. Here we come!

Hi. I'm a newbie, so just posting my starting weight, which is 12 st 5lbs! I can't quite believe it. My weight has crept up over the last few years, since having my children. Feeling motivated and hoping to lose 2 stone alltogether, but my first aim is to lose 6 lbs (to get to under 12st). I'm going to follow the NHS 12 week plan, but I'm a little worried about trying to stick to only 1400 cals as that doesn't seem like much. Good luck to everyone else this week. I have already found it really inspiring reading all your posts.

LessToLose profile image
LessToLose4lbsRestart April 2024 in reply toChears

I like your plan to aim for small goals, that is what I do, otherwise I feel a bit overwhelmed.

Make sure you have lots of healthy low-cal snacks on hand and drink plenty of water and you will soon get used to having less calories.

Best of luck and if you have any problems, you know where to come!

WeightWarrior profile image
WeightWarrior in reply toChears

Welcome!  You do right by jumping on it before it starts to get out of control - congrats on making a great decision to be healthy.  I allowed my weight to spiral out of control over the years and I regret not acting much sooner.  I ended up last September at a point where I was looking at losing about 8 stone to be a healthy weight.  I still have about 5 stone to lose...it's slow and steady, with ups and downs, so if you have a gain one week, don't be put off - I've had a few of those but still over time lost the 3 stone.

I'd say, to fill you up, use veggies as your friend.  I can make a huge bowl of veg stir fry for about 300 cals, as long as I don't use noodles or rice, that's what shoots the calories up through the roof!  I use beansprouts, you can buy them tinned and keep them in the cupboard.  Make the smarter, filling choices, veggies are definitely your friend.  Also, eggs are my friend too!  Veggie omelette is a great, filling and tasty option.  You'll be surprised how full you can feel if you choose the right stuff to fill up on, trust me!

Anyway enough waffling on from me, you are in a great place for motivation and tips, good luck on your journey, we're with you all the way!

Diana profile image
Diana in reply toChears

1400 to 1500 cals is quite a lot, esp if you chose snacks under 100 cals each, roughly 450 cals for meal, a great tip is buy a olive oil spray, saves loads as opposed to spoonful, whatever the size , at 7 cals a spray!

I tend to eat breakfast toast, nut butter 1 slice, fruit, that adds up to roughly 250 to 300 cals, lunch sandwich with filling ( gone back to cheese slices, more portion control), snacks about 100 cals or one of 200 or do.

Dinner roughly 450 cals.

Hi, I am signing in for this week and for last. I have maintained my weight - which is fair. I am pleased that I am stable at this weight, and that this weight isn't by chance. I am now on this push to lose the next 6 pounds. The weeks fly by. I think I am on week 9. c25k I am on week 7 day 1. I have c25k allowed this to drift because I only do it when I am well enough and my knees allow it. I am now running for 25 minutes. It's no longer a lung issue -but on occasions I have genuinely been too tired and i reckon there's a balance to be had. Last few days have been to gym - still producing heat at a ridiculous rate - I am not sure anyone else gets so hot.... people are sweating but no-one looks as physically hot as me (definitely not sexy). it's a battle!!

moreless profile image
morelessAdministrator7 stone in reply toHappymary

Well done for maintaining Mary, because a maintain is always better than a gain! :)

Don't push yourself to the point of pain, or exhaustion, it's just not worth the risk. I speak from experience! I too am working on getting the balance right!

As for getting hot, I can sweat like the proverbial pig, just walking, when there's snow on the ground, so please don't think it's just you! We''l be laughing if ever there's another ice age! ;)

Wishing you a fab week and a loss on the scales :)

Yes, yes, yes!  I took painkillers and went to the gym with what eventually turned out to be a slipped disc.  To be honest, the sciatica wasn't THAT bad at first, I'm used to a bit of pain in normal daily life, but then I wonder if the gym is the straw that broke the camel's back.  I was only doing treadmill walking and recumbent bike due to having arthritis already.  GP had referred to a special gym program, to try to help tackle my weight a bit.  I ended up on crutches to take the strain and experienced a time where I could not get out of pain whatever I did, full painkillers and no relief, it was murder.  Got as far as going to the nearest City Hospital to see a neurosurgeon.  Thank the Lord with a combination of rest, the correct gentle exercise instructions from the physio (and also actually listening to what she told me NOT to do!!!), the disc reabsorbed.  Please be kind to your body, listen to it if it's complaining and heed its warnings, they're often there for a reason as I found out the hard way!  Very good luck on your journey.  :-)

I am a sweat monster too!  I have to have a towel for my hands as they also sweat so much.  My face looks like a very sweaty red balloon within 5 seconds of working out.

I am in awe of your C25K prowess, especially considering your knee and lung issues.

Good luck for the next 6lbs!

Good afternoon everyone, I am very impressed with how well everyone is doing with their weight loss this week in the morning thread.

I will be around more after 3pm to comment on posts and to press "like" buttons.

As for my weigh-in, I lost 1.5lbs this week, which means that I have officially lost 70.5lbs - 5 stones!  Yay!  I am exactly 14stone and hope to be in the 13s next week.

The weekend has been quite challenging as I have been eating at other people's homes and it is much harder for me to estimate my calories and I also don't want to be rude when people have gone to a lot of trouble to make me healthy food.  My time to workout has also been limited, but I managed a couple of good, if rather quick, sessions at the gym.

Afternoon lowcal and the fab 5'ers

Well done lowcal on a fantastic loss this week 😃

So....I've been absent for a few weeks now and have been struggling with my weight loss whilst struggling with low mood and loads of stress at work. I've barely exercised and have just about eaten whenever and whatever I wanted, mostly bad choices.

I knew I had to come on here and log my weight gain and draw a line under it to give myself any chance of getting it off again and moving forward with my weight loss.  So I braved the scales today and here goes...  I now weigh 12st 9lb an increase of 5lb on my last weigh in, I think 4 or so weeks ago.

I feel like I'm in the right mindset to get on and tackle this again now as my mood feels like it is starting to lift again and I feel a little more positive about things now.

Here's to a good week and I plan to eat within my 1400 calorie daily allowance each day, go swimming twice this week and start to use the stairs at work again each day.

Thankyou to you all for just being here it means so much that I have somewhere to go and not be judged on a significant weight gain.

Thanks again

Nic x

5lbs in 4 weeks isn't horrendous and it certainly isn't insurmountable ! Now that you're back in the fold, you'll be able to see them off in next to no time. We're all here for you, standing in your corner and backing you to the hilt! You can do this Nic and we can help! :)

Don't forget to log those laps and steps with the 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea challenge ;)

Onwards and downwards, my friend :)

nickynoo77 profile image
nickynoo77 in reply tomoreless

Thanks moreless for your lovely reply.

I've missed all my lovely friends on here too! Just wish I'd felt able to come back sooner.  I've battled with low mood and depression since I suffered with awful post natal depression following the birth of my son 18 years ago and not everyone is supportive with this awful affliction its an invisible illness and a lot of people including some of my family just tell me to pull myself together and get on with it. I just wish it was that easy! Feeling a lot better now and even better knowing that you're in my corner and not judging me.

I'll join the 20,000 leagues under the sea challenge if nobody minds that i didn't complete the last challenge. I'm going to see if I can find a decent but reasonably priced pedometer as I currently count steps on my phone but I'm not sure how accurate it is and I don't always carry it round with me at work.

Nic x

moreless profile image
morelessAdministrator7 stone in reply tonickynoo77

Nic, we'd love to have you back and travelling with us, it's not the same without you! :)

Depression is a truly insidious illness, that is virtually impossible to understand if you've never been there. If it was possible to "pull oneself together", wouldn't we all choose to do exactly that?!

We will never judge you and we'll always be in your corner and rooting for you :)

bakersdozen profile image
bakersdozen in reply tomoreless

I totally agree with you MR it is easier said than done. How on earth can one pull themselves out of a depression! Honestly! I have heard this so many times and it gets me so mad! One needs therapy to get out of a depression! That is my personal opinion. Maybe it is the way how it works for me even though I do not suffer from anti depression! I have my times when I am so low and most times my therapist has a way of pulling me up!

moreless profile image

I understand what you are going through.  I send you a mahoooooosive virtual hug, and I would like, if I may, to refer you to one of my past posts...maybe consider showing this pic to all the judgmental, clueless people who don't understand, it might help them think before they speak (I hope!)...

If only it was this simple.  Do people really think that we CHOOSE to feel this way?  There really needs to be more education about depression and how it impacts on every aspect of a person's life.  Sorry for getting on my high horse, but I do get so frustrated sometimes with the lack of comprehension on the part of others - it makes a difficult illness even MORE difficult to deal with.  We need support, not judgment.  Stay strong, we're with you all the way xxx

Glad to hear that you are feeling a lot better now. I have suffered with low mood for many years and get frustrated when my family tell me to just 'snap out of it". Don't they realise that we don't want to feel down and would love to snap out of it if we could. Sorry some of your family are not supportive.  Just wanted to say about pedometers. After reading a post on here a little while ago I did buy one from my local Lloyds pharmacy which was £3.69 - its great but it records steps while I am driving (silly me forgets to take it off!). Another member recommended an Omron Walking Style One 2.1 Pedometer its £20.99 on eBay. Apparently you can wear it in the car as it only clocks walking distance. I couldn't use my phone as my battery is not lasting a day now.  Hope you find a pedometer and manage to get out for some nice walks now the days are getting longer - always makes me feel better too. Hope you have a good week and get a good result on the scales next week. I am sure you will if you go swimming twice and use the stairs at work. Best of luck.

Well done for tackling it now and not leaving it until the weight gets too much to face.  (been there, done that!)

Good luck, I am sure you will knock those pounds off really quickly and feel better in the process!

Hi Lowcal

Congratulations on losing 3 lbs and getting into the 12s! You say you were really determined - what did you do differently this week to make such progress?

I was a regular on this site 12 months ago - I lost 31lbs thanks to the support and inspiration I found here. I managed to maintain that loss until a couple of months ago - but now my eating Has become chaotic again and I am putting weight on - 7lbs in a fe weeks.

So I am starting again before it is too late - back to week 1 of the 12 week plan - not looking forward to it - but have to stop before I am back to where I started.

Well done all you losers!! I will be back with you next week - good luck and happy eating!!

Hi Sue,

Thank you!  You asked me what I did differently to make the progress.  I don't think it was essentially much difference, the thing is I've been working diligently for the past few weeks to try to get down by the last few pounds, but I had my period the week before, and that impacted on my mood a bit, so I was less diligent that week - and let my strength exercises drop that week.  Hence both that week and the week before I gained a total of 1.4 pounds in total, hence I knew that I needed to 'keep on track' this week, and that the weight would come off if I was patient and didn't take my eye off the ball.

With it being Easter weekend, I used the motivation of sueper  's Easter Bunny Challenge to help me focus, and so I put a plan of action in place to enable me to limit potential damage from Easter itself - i.e. talking to family about not giving Easter gifts of chocolate etc, and declining some 'Easter treats' that were offered my way.  I did however have an ice-cream at the cinema on Saturday and other things I enjoy in the week too.  I made sure I did my strength exercises daily though - that was definitely a 'step-up' from previous weeks, and I did 30 reps of each exercise instead of 20, which was quite a bit for me. (Sorry to give you such a detailed response, but you asked me, so that's my reply!).

I'd like to welcome you back Sue, I remember your name from way back, and you have achieved a lot during that time.  I hope you'll find it motivating to be back here, and thank you so much for joining us for the Monday group weigh-in.  There are quite a few new posts in the Pinned Posts area (I hope you know where that is - top right-hand-side of homepage), and the Welcome Newbie thread is particularly good - moreless  has put that together.  It's really good.

Wishing you success with your new weight loss goals, and hope you have a great week ahead.

I am not feeling very inspired yet - but had to start slowly last time - I will up my exercise this week to motivate me - and then get back into it.

I managed to last for 9 months maintaining and am disappointed with myself that I have completely lost the plot now! A combination of family problems and work stress has made me lose focus. But no excuses - I have to get my priorities right and just get on with it.

See you next week guys!!

Well done for nipping it in the bud now.  I think, once you have gained and lost weight, you have to be forever vigilant (something I have failed at so many times in the past).

I hope you get to enjoy being back on the programme, especially the forum, that makes it all worthwhile!

Afternoon, everybody

Been away for work again. Everything pretty much like last time I visited the forum here. I've been stuck in a grotty hotel and office, unable to go out much, and with nothing in the way of recreation except eating and drinking. But I've managed to not gain during the past 3 weeks, so I'm very happy with that.  I've told work that I'm unavailable to travel for the next couple of months, so hope I'll be able to get organized and make a bit more progress.

Start: 123 kg (271lbs, 19st5, BMI 37.9), at beginning of October

Ultimate aim: somewhere starting with an 8

Three weeks ago: 105.8 kg (233lbs, 16st9, BMI 32.6)

This week: 106.0 kg (233lbs, 16st9, BMI 32.6)

Right, going to read around a bit and see what I've missed. ☺

Hello all. Well, back from hols and as expected a gain, but less than I thought after all inclusive  tempting me! Gone from 11st 2lb to 11st 6lb. Avoided rum punches after I saw how much syrup was going in, and tried to choose veg and salad with fish or chicken. Still, didn't go without treats, sparkling white wine instead of too many cocktails! So, back on track and nice to read the posts as no good WiFi while I was away.

Yay, Lowcal 3llbs lost, well done ! We hoped it would come good and it would show this week so that must put a smile on your face.

I have maintained , well 10st 13.2 so 2 oz on. I kept exercise up where I could but collecting boys from school meant all day in a car. Enjoyed having all the family at home over Easter and friends for dinner and cooking for one and all, so it could have been worse and I'm happy I stayed in the 10's.

We go skiing on Sunday so I won't be weighing in next week but I will post weight on Sunday before I go. Usually manage to not put weight on on a skiing holiday and enjoy some delicious French food in the process!! Have a good week everyone and well done for those weight losses in the face of festivities and chocolate!!

Woo hoo Lowcal, that's the best Easter present EVER - brilliant news for you!  :-D

I finally feel like I am winning again, for now!  A few less painkillers this week and a lot of catching up on sleep, I'm sure that helped as the leg has gone down for today (makes all the difference at the weigh in, believe me!).

I lost 3 and 1/4 pounds this week.  I'm pleased, but it's been a bumpy month with a few celebratory hiccups, so a couple of weeks I gained, and a couple of weeks I lost.  The overall trend has been downwards though, I managed to get off 5 of the 7 pounds for the Easter challenge.  If only I hadn't had those 2 weeks where I gained, I would have made target.  Oh well, life happens, let's keep plodding on eh, can't let it get us down!

Here's to a good week ahead for everyone. xx

Thank you, I am loving the new motto too, it's so apt!

I have a chart where I shade the pounds and I have got 44 squares shaded.  I just said out loud to hubby and son, that's 88 packs of butter - 88 - wow, that's a lot.  And the most scary bit of that reality check is that I still have that and a bit more to lose.  How much extra strain has my poor body been under - eek, shocking!  I feel good about being kind to myself and sticking with it, I hope my joints will thank me for it in the long run and allow me to do a bit of exercise!

First time I've posted on here. Decided to do something about my weight 6 weeks ago. I have lost 1.75 pounds this week so in total over the 6 weeks that now makes 18 pounds. My BMI has come down 3 points from 41.7 to 38.7 and my weight has dropped from 17-12 to 16-8. Still have a long way to go! For my height of 5-5 I shouldn't be more than 10-10, so still another 6 stone to go. I have just decided to aim for small amounts. My first target is 16 stone so only another 8lbs to go and then I am just going to set goals of 1 stone each after that. I think this is the best way to go as I have so much to lose. Hopefully should do it between 1 to 2 years if I can stick at it. Hope everyone else is doing well with their weight loss.

Calorie counting is working best for me too...if nothing is off limits (within reason obviously) then I don't tend to crave it half as much lol!  Also seeing what calories are in certain things makes me more inclined to choose to fill up on veggies anyway as I'm not hungry that way, whereas if I chose calorific, non-filling stuff, I know I'd fail completely.  A planned treat now and then is the way to go I reckon.  Happy Anniversary to you both, hope you are having a great day!

Congratulations dear Lowcal on your 3 pound loss and being back in the 12s. Very happy for you. I don't know how you can keep up with all these challenges, I'm still trying to recover since the end of our Around the world challenge and my daily stats have plummeted since!

Now that I think of it this might be the reason why I've gained this week? A quarter of a pound though. 153 and a quarter, compared to 153 last week (69.5kg compared with 69.4 last week). I know exactly what happened: I have overeaten almost every day this week, especially due to 2 excellent news I've received on Thursday I've been on cloud nine since and suddenly I've felt really hungry since?!  But I've logged everything  even when I went up to 2000 cals!!! What motivating to write absolutely everything was something I read on My Fitness Pal blog recently, the author was saying something along the lines of :

" Remember that even if you do not log everything, your body does! " Lol. So true.

I feel I have come such a long way I can be ok for a week but I still want to lose a bit more in order to get to around bmi 22.5 instead of 24.5 at moment.

I'm away on a trip but I'm so glad I've managed to log in and so happy to have LotToLose in the team she's fab and she has done so well!

Tut, tut, if you'd just joined us for the 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea challenge, your stats wouldn't have dropped and you may not have overeaten! ;)

Personally, I think there's been something in the air that's been making everyone feel hungry, because I've been exactly the same this week, as have others that I've spoken to! Maybe this stems back to our distant past too. We come out of hibernation and need to eat lots to build ourselves back up! :)

Like WeightWarrior  says, it was the Easter weekend and the lead up to it, and it is quite normal to gain weight at such times, it is definitely a challenging time.  So don't be hard on yourself for gaining some weight.  Do you know how much you've gained, so I can let Ruth know for the stats?

Maybe the fact you're talking of 'cutting out all the extra sugary things' might be too much - think about ways to 'cut down' rather than eliminate things completely - and that way you can hopefully find it less of a daunting task.  Make a few changes that feel achievable, and stick with those to establish a good habit and a change that is sustainable.

It's tough sometimes, and so try to be kind to yourself, and you will hopefully have a great week ahead.  This time of year is challenging.

Good luck with everything, and hope this week will be an enjoyable and good week for you.

Lowcal :-)

I think 1.5lbs this week! It doesn't seem as bad when I break it down like that (it was 2.5 last week) thanks for your encouragement! I've been for extra bike ride today too...!

Never say never, Mv, you did it before and you'll do it again :) As WW says, you've had to deal with Easter, but now that it's all over, you can get back on the straight and narrow again :)

Just for the stats, how much have you actually gained?

Onwards and downwards! :)

I think 1/4 pound is tiny if you have been eating a wee bit too much each day for a week!  I reckon I'd be looking at several pounds gain at least so well done on such a small gain...it will be gone again in no time, I'm sure.  :-)

I have a very good loss to report this week! Last week I was 14st 10.75lbs and this week I am 14st 6.75lbs, so a loss of 4 pounds! That was much more than I was expecting so I moved my scales around and checked it three times and it said the same weight each time. It has made me feel much better after losing and gaining half a pound over the last two weeks.

However, I have only had a tiny little bit of Easter egg so far so I still have that to eat and I realise I may not lose much next week after a bigger loss this week so I am prepared for that (I've never understood why with dieting that you can have a few weeks of staying the same or tiny losses and then you have a big loss in one week!).

Well done to everyone else, it seems that lots of people have done great over Easter! :)

Wow - that is amazing and thank goodness after so many ups and downs over the past few weeks.

Hi Everyone,  I'm joining today, my starting weight is 117kg.  I've struggled with my weight ever since I've had IBS like symptoms and became intolerant to onions, garlic etc over the last 4 years.  My initial goal is to follow the 12 week plan and lose 4kg in the next 6 weeks and get back to doing regular exercise. I've been for a run today so hopefully a good start! :-)

Hi and welcome Rr :)

It's great that you've joined us and that you've shared your starting weight and goals :)

IBS is not very pleasant and I hope that you'll be able to keep it controlled, whilst following the 12 week plan.

I wonder if you've seen our Welcome Newbies thread, which has all sorts of helpful tips and motivational stories

There are also a number of motivational challenges for you to have a go at, they can be found in the pinned posts section, to the right of your screen, which also holds a recipe thread, compiled by Lowcal :)

Looking forward to tracking your progress. Have a great week :)

Hi everyone, I'm new to the group. My weight today is 67.6kg. I started the 5k running app on Friday, went for a run on Sunday and took the dog out for a 5km walk today. Have had a few small wobbles over Easter: a couple of hot cross buns, cheese and a glass or 2 of red wine! I have had a few good meals including vegetables ++ and lean protein. I've logged my calories on my fitness pal and have averaged 1400 calories over the 4 days, but did get up to 1700 calories on one day. I'm planning on being stricter with my diet after Easter. My goal is to lose 10kg in 12 weeks... So around 1.5 lbs per week. So my mini goal is to lose 1.5 lbs by next week's weigh in.

I have a query. When one is trying to stick to a calorie intake of 1400 per day, I take it this is the amount one should aim to eat whether it's been a sedentary day or whether one has run a marathon?!

It's been great reading all your posts-very inspirational! Thank you all for your support!

Zest profile image

Hi DMMEG16,

Welcome to the Monday group weigh-in post, and it's great that you've decided to join us.  I hope you felt ok sharing your starting weight, as that's often the most daunting first steps.  It's great to hear you've started the C25k running app on Friday, and that you've already enjoyed a run on Sunday, plus your dog walk for 5km today!  Wow, that's great!

I think it's good that you're using an app like Myfitnesspal to log your food and drink intake, it's a handy app.  You've got your goals worked out and also your mini-goals too - very sensible.  You might also want to consider taking your body measurements, as they can be really motivating on those occasions when the scales stick.  Which they do sometimes!  :-)

There are differences of opinion regarding what to do with exercise calories, but generally I think those people on 1400 calories eat that amount regardless of what exercise they do.  I've never had that few calories before, as I'm quite tall so I eat more calories.  But the calorie range recommended on the NHS calculator does take account of the amount of activity people do, in addition to their height etc.  So the range should be adhered to, regardless of the exercise.  Hope this makes sense.

Hope you have a great first week, and do have a look at the various posts in the Pinned posts section, including the Welcome Newbie thread, if you've not yet seen it.

Good luck!

Lowcal :-)

Welcome DMMEG16 and well done on starting the C25K on Friday.  I think if your exercise is moderate, then I would stay within the calorie allowance recommended when you do the BMI thingy on the "Getting Started" page:  nhs.uk/Livewell/weight-loss...

It gives you a range, dependent on your BMI.  For example, my BMI is high, so I can consume between 1600-1800 calories a day, so if I am hungry, I eat the higher range.

If however, you are regularly training for a marathon, I would definitely say, eat more!

Hi Fab 5, (no need to respond) - been a busy working  Easter Weekend, but weighed in yesterday morning to find I had lost 1lb.  Very pleased with this as have just come back from my holiday..and had stayed the same the previous week.

Now I have to avoid any post-Easter chocolate urges; we organised an Easter Egg hunt today for local families & their children - but there are too many eggs left!  I will get my partner to put them up very high out of my sight!

Zest profile image

Hi DartmoorDumpling,

I am definitely responding to you!  Absolutely!  I'm so happy you're here.   Sorry to hear you've had a busy working Easter weekend, but hope it was ok.  Congratulations on losing 1 pound, especially as you've just got back from your holiday as well - that is a really brilliant result!  Really well done!

You're already on the action plan for 'damage limitation' of Easter stash, and well done for getting your partner to put those eggs up very high and out of sight.

I am quite relieved that I've put my own 'unexpected' stash of chocolate orange and mini eggs somewhere particularly 'safe' and out of sight, and now I've actually forgotten where they are!  I think this is a great result, really good! I hope I don't find them.  I'm definitely NOT going to look for them, that's a certainty. :-)

Wishing you another great week ahead.

Hi ToLiveTheDream,

Thank you so much!

Congratulations on maintaining you weight this week, as a maintain is much better than a gain in our book, and your waist measurement is likely to be down to bloating from your period.  It will soon come down again once that's over.  I think you've done really well not to gain during a period week, as it really does scupper our progress sometimes.

Hope you have a lovely week ahead, and that you enjoy your week.

Well this is my first Monday weigh-in  (I was 250.8lbs on Good Friday 25/03/16 which was my Day 1)

I weighed in today for this and am now 246.2lb

Really pleased as I have managed to be very good. I  know that one usually can do really well weight loss wise in that 1st week so will be happy to progress however slowly in the future

I managed to throw in a 3.5k walk on Saturday which is more than I would normally do. The job is sedentary and my own time is far too sedentary too.

Hi MotherPip,

Welcome to the forum, and I hope you're enjoying your week so far.  I notice you started on Good Friday - it's great that you've joined us for this Monday group weigh-in - and thank you for sharing your starting weight.  I hope that felt ok to do so, it's a daunting first step sometimes.  It's great that you've already lost 4.6 pounds, what an amazing start!  You're right, the first week can often be a larger weight loss, as much of it is water weight, but it's still to be celebrated, as it's a very motivating start, and not all of it will be water weight.  Your weight loss should level off after the first couple of weeks, and it's much more usual to then lose approx 1 to 2 pounds per week, but it can slow up some weeks and have larger losses on others, so it does vary.

Great that you did a 3.5k walk on Saturday, and I hope you enjoyed it.  You're sounding positive and motivated and saying 'time to change' sounds like a great motto!

Hi Anna,

Thanks for your encouraging and supportive words, which I appreciate.  I did work hard this week.  Glad to see the pounds go eventually!  :-)

I hope you enjoyed your weekend away, and it's good that you were able to watch your portions and only eat when hungry during that time.  I suspect you could have easily gained more than 2 pound if you hadn't done that, so you've enabled damage limitation for the weekend, so well done.  You'll soon get that weight off again now you're back to your normal routine.  Hopefully it will go fairly quickly!

Definitely keep positive regarding your frame of mind, as this will help you to get back on track, and then you'll see how quickly it will disappear.  Like you say, this is the only week you've gained since August, and very few people would be able to say that.  You're back on track today.

Have a lovely week.

I have a meal with friends (which will be a Chinese takeaway) tomorrow and some visitors this weekend; already planning food and what I am going to opt out of! (All puddings, potatoes and rice as when I obsess slightly about sugar, I seem to lose).
