Firstly, I'd like to wish everyone a Very Happy New Year! Congratulations to everyone who lost weight last year, and please take a look at the post that Ruth_Canal_Runner put up summarising the amazing weight loss achieved during 2015 by members on this forum - it is phenomenal!!:
Have you had a chance to think of your New Year weight-loss goals and/or Resolutions? Please do share them with us today if you'd like to. We'd love to hear them.
OK, here's my weigh-in result for this week: Last Monday I weighed 13 stone 6.2 pounds, and today I weigh 13 stone 4.8 pounds, so I've lost 1.4 pounds this week. My New Year weight-loss goals are as follows:
1) I pledge to continue posting the Monday group weigh-in post, as this helps me to stay accountable and on track with my own weight-loss goals, and I love interacting and encouraging all the great people on this thread (along with the other Fab 5'ers) - it's such an enthusiastic and supportive group to be part of. Seeing people's achievements each week is really motivating.
2) I am aware that I am already at a healthy BMI, but I would like to get down to the 12's - ideally 12 stone 7 pounds, but I have been struggling to achieve this. I am going to give it one last try this year - and therefore hope to achieve it at some point this year.
3) I am hoping to work more on toning up and therefore squats, press-ups, sit-ups, and some weight training at the gym will hopefully become part of my regular routine.
4) Since recently re-joining the gym in mid-December, I have managed to run on the treadmill for 5km a few times, and I would like to improve my time and get fitter, and consider running outside when the weather improves.
5) I am looking forward to trying out new recipes and foods over the year.
Now, for our weekly stats from last week (thank you Ruth for compiling these):
Total people posting on last Monday's thread: 57.
Total overall weight gained (!): 29.6 pounds (13.3. kilos).
Total people who lost weight: 9 (12.0 pounds lost) (5.5 kilos).
Total people who gained weight: 20 (41.6 pounds gained) (18.8 kilos).
Total people who maintained their weight: 4.
Total people starting out on their weight loss journey/plan: 21.
Total people who didn't disclose their weight gain/loss: 3.
Note: This was the first time all year that our group had a weekly gain in weight - and it's understandable to gain some weight over the Christmas period, so please don't worry too much. We'll hopefully work off those Christmas excesses very soon.
If you look at Ruth_Canal_Runner's post for our 2015 total loss, it was 941.7 pounds in total, which is 427.1 kg, or 17 bags of cement (25kg bags), or 1 Weddell Seal (an enormous creature which can be found in the Antarctic, and which can be over 3.5 metres long!). Please do check out Ruth's post for a picture of this beautiful seal, if you haven't already seen it (link at top of this thread). Definitely worth a look!
If you are joining this weigh-in group for the first time today, then welcome. You are not alone, as we had 21 newbies last week, and hopefully you'll all get to know one another relatively quickly. If you're new, just introduce yourself and share your starting weight (if you feel comfortable to do so) and your initial weight loss goals - setting yourself mini-goals leading to your ultimate weight loss goal is particularly helpful. Body measurements can also help in terms of keeping monthly measurements of chest, waist, hips for example. It's not all about the scales. Only share what you feel comfortable sharing.
The Fab 5'ers (myself, Prin, Suzybenj, Ruth_Canal_Runner and Moreless) will ensure that anyone who contributes to this thread will have a response from one or more of us at some point in the day and evening. Please feel free to interact and support other contributors as much as you like - we hope you will all enjoy participating in this thread.
Here's to a great year in 2016, and here's to achieving our goals together!
Onwards & downwards!

last week 12.12 this week I now weigh 12.11 So lost a pound which happy with I can start this year as I mean to go on bk on my fitness pal app again and exercising again hoping this year is my year and by Easter can get into 11 st mark hoping x
Congratulations on losing 1 pound this week, that is brilliant! A great way to start the year. Great to hear you're going back on Myfitnesspal and exercising again - and you've got your goal for Easter to get into the 11 stone mark. Definitely should be your year! Great to have you on board with us.
A very warm welcome to you, and you've got your starting weight for this year. I would recommend the NHS 12 week plan if you've not already seen it, and maybe use an app like Myfitnesspal to help you track food and drink intake and exercise etc.
You can do it! If I can do it, anyone can lol! I put on a whopping great 6 1/4 pounds over the Christmas week by having was it 3 or 4 days off, one of which was my birthday (meal, cake, etc - ugh!) but with the encouragement and support of the good folk on this forum, for the first time in years, I haven't comfort eaten even more because I was fed up about putting on weight! (I know, a daft cycle to get into, but I was surely in it all the same!).
I guess what I'm trying to say is, stick around here, post, comment, like, or even just read and I'm sure you will find it really will help you to stay on track. I've had a few wobbles and I posted about them...folk came forward with support and it helped me to keep going rather than fall permanently off the wagon AGAIN! I've done it more than I care to remember...start, fail, start, fail, the good intentions always seemed to go right out of the window. I think the difference this time is that I feel I'm not doing it alone...everyone here is brilliant!
Good luck on your journey, look forward to seeing you at the weigh in each week!
All the best for 2016 to you LowCal you and your colleagues do a great job inspiring us! I am sure you will reach the elusive 12's! Unlike you I am not a healthy BMI and I will work out sometime this week how much I need to move down from obese at least at first and then to slightly overweight and then healthy BMI! That sounds motivating enough. As for past week I have now gone down to 12st 13 still 1 lb more than I was pre Christmas but lost a 1 lb of the extra. Starting the round the world today too so that will help!
Fantastic to hear that you've already reduced some of the Christmas excesses, and you've lost 1 pound - that's a brilliant start to the year. Well done! Great to hear you're also starting Lizzy's Around the World Challenge too - that should be a great adventure and really motivating.
Wow, you've also got a great result this week, and being 0.2 kg down, and managing to maintain below your original target range of 55-57kg - settling in the 54's sounds really great!!!
Thanks for sharing your goals for this year, they all sound really great.
Wishing you another great week ahead, and yes, let's hope that 2016 is a healthy and lighter year for all of us.
You are doing brilliantly 2beFabnfit. To maintain at slightly below your original target over the holiday season is astonishing and truly admirable. I'm sure you'll have no trouble keeping that going through 2016 and what a pity you didn't sign up for Lizzie's exercise challenge, it would have been a great motivator for you
Mmmm funny isn't it. I have done well without the exercise. I was doing regular exercise but had to rest an injury and now all motivation has gone. I do have an active job and lifestyle. I haven't needed to exercise specifically to keep the weight down but would like to be fitter. I wouldn't want to let the group down so didn't sign up for the challenge. Maybe tomorrow I will start my walk at home dvd again and see how it feels ...
I know how this feels, having done the C25K, and feeling brilliant.....I found myself away on business and having my trainers and feeling all motivated on a beautiful summers evening I went off for a run. My advice to every one is not to run on cobbles. Its ruined my knees, and I fear my running days are over.
So since I stopped running I have put on 10lbs.
So 18 months later, we find something new to do, and I am slowly trying to rebuild muscle in to my knees on a cross trainer...........slowly slowly though.
Its hard, but you'll get back to it, if the walk at home doesnt work - how about Yoga.........there's loads of free classes to try on You tube....
I really need to find time to put some yoga in my life..........
Good Morning Lowcal and Monday Weighers...Happy New Year to you all!
Well done Lowcal on your weight loss, what a good way to begin the new year. I'm so pleased you're going to continue leading our Monday weight check, it's a real motivation for me.
As I said in my post yesterday, I've been dreading stepping onto the scales this morning so I wasn't too surprised to see I've gained 5.5lbs since 21st December, to be honest I was afraid it might be more.
I'm back in healthy eating mode and my aim is to be 9st by Easter, I'm not making any new year resolutions, I never do.
Good morning! Happy New Year! Thanks for your kind words. Glad you find this thread motivating. I have to say I find it really good fun, and I'm so glad that people are supporting it and finding it helpful.
I know you were dreading stepping on the scales today, but here you are, and that's brave, so well done! You've gained 5.5 pounds since 21st December, which is over a period of 2 weeks, so I'll divide your gain by 2, to give us the average weekly gain, which is 2.75 pounds (for Ruth's stats). Hopefully you feel relieved, as I know you feared it might be more. You'll soon get those excesses off again now you're back in healthy eating mode.
You're back in healthy eating mode now, so that's a great way to proceed to work towards being 9 stone by Easter. That's a great weight-loss goal.
I beat you, ner nah, ner nah! (pokes tongue out in a childish fashion) I put on 6 1/4 pounds in a week! Christmas did me no favours, I had to get back on the wagon right away last Monday. So I think you have done amazingly well not to have gained more for that sustained period of festive eating, very well done!
That weight will be gone in no time, we're all here to cheer each other on. Onwards and downwards!
Morning Lowcal - Happy New Year to you!
Last week weighed 16 4, this week 16 2.4. Lost 1.6lbs. Very happy with the loss.
Wow, what a great start to the year, losing 1.6 pounds - Congratulations! I'm looking forward to your 'Around The World in 80 Days' Challenge - and I'll be popping over to give my kms for last week later in the day. It's great that there are so many people on board with you for that challenge. Really motivating. I'm looking forward to the destinations!
15st.12lbs. Under 16st. Definitely a milestone on my journey. New eating plan seems to be suiting me, so far. Had a very inactive week last week, can only get better ...
Wow, really great that you've started off the year with a milestone on your journey - achieving the 15's - Congratulations!!!! I know how great those transitions can feel, and hope you thoroughly enjoy the feeling!
Glad that the new eating plan is suiting you better, and hope you have another enjoyable week ahead. Hopefully you can improve on the activity levels, as you had a very inactive week last week - like you say, it can only get better!
So this is the year in 173 days I'll be walking down the aisle to marry my best friend and I'm determined to not look like I did at my sisters wedding in September 2015! I aim to be at least the top BMI healthy weight which would mean I had another 6kg to lose (I want this to happen by mid March) or a bit lower than that which would mean I have another 12kg to go! We shall just see what happens!
So since last week I've managed to lose 0.5kg! Which I'm so happy about as I didn't start cracking down till Friday and even then I've eaten lots of sweets (within my calorie amount) I cannot wait to stand on the scale and see a weight in the 70s! Still a fair way to go till that but I'm on the right track!!
Need to get back on my exercise as well this week- I'm back to full time hours after being off with my knee so that'll be interesting! Plus I'd like to throw a few walks in somewhere too
I hope everyone had an amazing Christmas and new year and here's to a happy healthy and prosperous 2016!!!!
Oh Wood, I'm so excited for you. How romantic to be marrying your best friend in 173 days. I've got goosepimples thinking about it
Congrats on the 1/2 kilo loss and here's to seeing the back of those unwanted kilos asap, so that you can trip down the aisle (not literally ) in all your slim gorgeousness
Wow, Congratulations on losing 0.5 kg this week, that is such a great start to the New Year. Well done you! You'll be seeing those 70's on the scale relatively soon at this rate. You're on the right track, as you say.
You're counting down to your Wedding, and I can imagine you're feeling happy and excited about the prospect of marrying your best friend, and that's such a lovely goal to look forward to and work towards regarding your weight.
Good luck with your exercise goals for this week - I hope your knee has recovered and good luck with being back to full-time hours at work. I hope it all goes well for you this week. Hope you manage to fit in those walks you're planning. But do pace yourself, as it's a big change from being off to being full-time again.
Wishing you a Very Happy New Year for 2016 - happy, healthy and prosperous all sound great - let's hope it's just like that for us all.
Aww I do love a good wedding! I can cry at the drop of a hat, was a blubbering mess at my friend's wedding and got her blubbering too lol! Seriously, what a lovely occasion to be looking forward to...huge congrats in advance! Sounds like you have done really well to have lost even with sweeties involved, congrats on that too!
It sounds like you have a busy week planned, just a word of caution (sorry, it's in my genes lol) please don't overdo it and hurt your knee if there is a weakness there already, because it can be so tempting to go that bit further in the moment and then regret it a day or two later! That said, enjoy all your activities and good luck with going back full time!
I think you've done well in the circumstances, to only gain 1.6 pounds after horrible weather and leftover party food - and hopefully it will soon be off again once you're back to normal again. So don't despair!
Thanks for sharing your aims for this year. Good approach to see how things go regarding how you feel at different weights, and once you achieve a weight you feel comfortable at, then you've reached your ultimate goal - good approach!
Wishing you a great week ahead, and hope you cope ok with being back to work tomorrow. Always a shock to the system, but hopefully you'll have a good week.
I agree with Lowcal, 1.6 is a drop in the ocean, I reckon you will have shed that, and more in no time at all!
Morning Lowcal and everyone - and a Happy New Year Congratulations on your weight loss this week Lowcal - sounds like your gym visits are doing the trick. Thank you once again for running this thread every Monday and the work that yourself and the other Fab-5ers put into answering everyone - I'm sure it's helped myself and many others enormously with their weight loss journey !!
Well I have quite amazed myself over Christmas - I set myself a target of not weighing more than 167lbs by today (so basically maintaining) - and I have managed it and better - despite too many mince pies and chocolate - mainly by being ultra good the past few days and doing lots of kms in training for Lizzy's trip round the world. So am pleased to report my weight today is 168lbs - a loss of 0.8lbs from 2 weeks ago !
My main aim (not resolution !) is to :
a) try to be at target weight (just about halfway into healthy BMI range) by our holiday at Easter - just under another 1st to go.
b) try lots of different new recipes that will be of use going forward once I start to maintain. I'm looking quite a bit more at nice vegetarian food and the whole 'clean eating' ideas for inspiration.
Anyway, good luck everyone for this week - those Christmas pounds will shift quickly enough - just don't get downhearted !!
Fantastic that you achieved your goal to maintain and actually lost some weight on top of that, despite all the mince pies and chocolate - the fact you were ultra good over the past few days has obviously contributed to that success. Well done you! I'm sure that kicking all the Kms for Lizzy's Around the World Challenge has helped - it certainly helps me.
Great that you have your holiday at Easter to work towards, and thanks for sharing your New Year goals for this year. Hope you'll share any great ideas for recipes - I find discussing those in the forum really helps to expand on repertoire when it comes to meals and meal planning.
That's a lovely encouraging thing to say at the end of your post - 'don't get downhearted' - that's so true - those Christmas pounds will shift quickly enough now we're all back on track.
Welcome to your first weigh-in - it's great that you've decided to join us, and I hope you'll feel really welcome and that you'll have a great first week. You've taken the brave step of sharing your starting weight, and I hope that felt ok to do that. Great to hear you're starting a new exercise class tonight - I hope you really enjoy it.
You've set your first aim to get to 11 stone, and hopefully at the end of this week, you'll be on your way towards your goal.
I'd recommend having a look at the NHS 12 week plan, if you've not already seen it. It's a great plan with good structure and advice. Using an app alongside it, like Myfitnesspal can really help with the tracking of calories and exercise etc.
Wishing you a great week ahead and look forward to catching up with you at next week's weigh-in.
Hi, you are in a fantastic place for motivation and lots of handy advice from inspiring folk who have completed their journey and are into maintaining. Definitely stick around, keep reading, commenting etc, the more interaction the better, personally, it really helps to keep me on track.
You can do it, good luck, we're all behind you! (and no, this is not a late Christmas panto...."he's behind youuuuu"! lol )
Its called metafit. I had been doing bootcamp twice a week up until Christmas but the price has risen so have found a new group. I'll let you know what its like
First steps for me on my weight loss adventure....
Starting weight for me is 18st 6lbs, down 1lb from when I decided to sign up here last Friday.
My main aim is to lose 3 stone this year, which will put me at my lowest weight in over 10 years.
I have set two mini milestones:
1. Lose 6lbs by our holiday on 27/01/2016 (not sure how realistic this is??).
2. Weigh 17st by the End of March 2016
Have signed up for the round the world in 80 days challenge and will use my Fitbit to track activity and Lifesum app to track calories.
A very warm welcome to you, and it's great that you've joined us for your first steps on your weight loss adventure. I hope you felt ok sharing your starting weight. Congratulations on achieving a 1 pound loss since last Friday - that is a really great start.
You've set your overall weight loss goal, and your 2 mini-goals, that's great! I note you put a question mark by the first one, in terms of whether it's achievable to lose 6 pounds from now till your holiday on 27th January. I calculate that is 3 weeks and 2 days away, and therefore it should be achievable as you'd be aiming for 2 pounds loss per week - and healthy weight loss is often set at 1 to 2 pounds per week. So yes, it is realistic and achievable.
Great that you've signed up for Lizzy's Around the World in 80 days challenge, and great that you have a Fitbit and Lifesum app to track calories etc. You sound like you're all set - and wishing you a great week ahead.
Look forward to catching up with you at next week's weigh-in.
Lowcal
Good morning Lowcal and thanks for opening this thread. I particularly like your pledge and find it quite inspiring
My weight last Monday morning was ......187.50
My weight this Monday morning was ......184.75
Total loss this week ........................................2.25
This for me is a milestone and puts me within 10lb of my primary target.
I seem to have lost quite a lot of weight overnight and put this down to the tummy bug I had over the weekend which caused bloating and water retention. A funny 'ole thing the body eh?
Have a great day lowcal and all members of the forum
Thank you so much for your kind words, they are much appreciated!
Wow, what a great start for you this year - a 2.25 pound loss in the first week of January 2016. Great that it also marks a milestone for you, and you're within 10 pounds of your primary target. Really well done!
I'm glad you're feeling better after your tummy bug.
Well done on your weight loss and good luck with your goals this year.
I have put on 0.6 lbs this week I thought it would be worse as I have been surrounded by chocolate from Christmas. It was also our 11 year anniversary on the 30th so we went out for a lovely three course meal with wine and a cocktail afterwards! May have drank and ate too much at New Years as well and a roast yesterday....
Back on track now that the festive period is over.
My more immediate goals are too have a dry 4 weeks (been drinking way too much!). From today to 31st January no alcohol is passing these lips!
I have also got a new job that I start in March so would like to loose as much weight as possible by then as will need to buy some new work clothes. My aim is 1lb a week so to lose 8lbs by the time I've started would be great!
Longer term goals are to get to 8 stone (I'm only 5ft 1/2) as this will put me in the middle of my BMI parameters. I'm 10stone 1.6 lbs today so a little way to go.
Hi NMJ, I think a 0.6lb gain is minimal, considering the time of year and the edibles that have been around. That'll soon disappear, especially as you've decided to ditch the booze for January.
How exciting that you're going to be starting a new job, so here's to losing those 8lbs and getting some swish new work clothes
Thank you moreless! I am very excited about my new job - motivation to keep up with the weightloss! Hopefully I'll see the loss of 8lbs and more by the time I start
Just wanted to wish you a Very Happy 11th Wedding Anniversary, and also say Congratulations on that new job - very exciting! Getting some swish new work clothes will be a great motivator.
Have a great week.

Happy New Year to everyone here. Well done Lowcal, that's a great loss and good luck with this years goals.
I weighed 11st 8.25lbs this week a loss of 1.5lbs, so just another 1.25lbs to get back to my pre Xmas weight. Then I can concentrate on losing my last stone or so.
This year I want to carry on eating healthily, most of the time! Lose the 16lbs I need to lose to get into the healthy range if possible, and then maintain my weight long term.
Good luck to everyone, and thank you fab five for all your continued hard work, I couldn't have achieved without you all.
Well done for posting your starting weight and your goals for the year.
I am so sorry to hear about your son, today must be particularly difficult for you, so congratulations for joining us here are even more in order. I hope that as time goes on, the pain will recede and you'll no longer feel the need to use food as a comfort.
A very warm welcome to you, and it's great that you've done your first weigh-in with us today. I hope it felt ok to share your weight, as I know that's a hard first step to take.
I am so sorry to hear that your son died 2 years ago today. It must feel very significant to be starting your weight loss journey on the Anniversary of his death. Comfort eating is a very understandable thing in response to stress of any kind, and I really hope that you will find plenty of support here in this forum to help to cope with that. Many of us resort to - I know that I do sometimes.
Have you seen the NHS 12 week plan? It's a really good structure and has some good advice, so I would say it's worth a look - and it's connected to this forum, and can be accessed via the icon in the top middle of the screen, entitled "Weight Loss NHS'.
You mentioned eating less and exercising more. The NHS 12 week plan helps to ensure you eat sufficient calories and good nutrients to give your body the food it needs - sometimes people find that if they don't eat sufficient calories for their weight and exercise needs, then they don't lose any weight, so this is a consideration - there's an NHS calculator which will work out BMI and give a recommended range of calories to eat - and I would recommend you look at that.
Hope you don't mind my giving you those recommendations. You may already be very aware of such things, but I'm aware you're new, and just want to point you in the direction of tools and resources that I think might be helpful.
Wishing you a good week ahead, and I hope today goes ok for you.
Right....just me again...I hugely fell off the wagon at christmas but as requested my husband bought me a good set of electronic scales and I was chuffed to pieces (my friends were mortified that I got scales and a karcher window cleaner but I was chuffed to bits lol)
Well I was chuffed to bits.....until I realised that there is a total difference between my scales my old ones were from the 80's I'm sure so with that in mind I'm starting the new year afresh and my 1st weigh in I weigh 12st 13.2lb (my old scales said I was 12st 5lbs)
My goal are
To get to 11st 0lb by June 5th
to look too in a bikini for a family holiday
To actually feel good when I look in the mirror.
Good luck everyone.....onwards and erm....downwards.... (?) Xx
Hi. I've lost 1 pound this week! Currently weighing in at 10 stone 10. I am hoping a return to work will not mean a return to attacking the biscuits / left over chocolate / anything lying around. I am finding the blog helpful and wish everyone else success. I am thinking of that massive seal you all lost for inspiration! Good luck to us all!
Great to see you, and I know you're dashing off, so catch you later. Your gain for this week of 0.75 pounds is minimal, and to have a total gain over Christmas of 3.5 pounds should soon be off again quickly as you swing back the other way this week. I have every confidence that you'll do that.
I like your list of New Year hopes and desires - they all sound very achievable and I hope you cope ok with the Dry January. Like you say - it will be very cleansing.
Hope work goes ok today, first day back is always the worst - hope it won't be too bad, and that you'll have a good day.
Catch you later, and wishing you lots of luck and success in 2016 in everything.
Thanks for your help over the years with this thread, I know I keep saying it, but I really value your support as a Fab 5'er.
Hi lovely Lowcal and everyone else. Written in haste... Thanks for the stats I Feel so much better reading them. Not just me being assaulted by mince pies then.
I got back on track with some big pots of soup.
Last week 91kgs
This week 90.2 kgs.
Last year was about feeling better and getting fitter. This year forward is about being as fit as I can possibly be and much more serious about actually losing weight.
No, not just you being assaulted by mince pies - although I must admit I didn't have any of those this year - marzipan chocolates seemed to assault me instead!
Great that you're back on track after the Christmas excesses, and that some big pots of soup helped you out. You've lost 0.8 kgs this week, that is a really great result. Congratulations!
Great that last year was about feeling better and getting fitter, and that this year will be about being as fit as you can possibly be, and serious losing weight - both great goals for the year.
Good morning! Well done low cal on shifting the Christmas extra 😀 My Christmas gain is also on the way out; last week 12-6 this morning 12-4. I do have an issue with scales- one set says 12-4 the other says 12-9 so guess which ones I am following! When I reach my targets on the 'heavy' scales as well I will know for sure that I'm making progress! When I started losing weight Jan 5th last year I was 14-8 and aiming to stabilise at 12-13 so I am well below that even on my heavy scales.
I started a brand new health diary for 2016 😀 It's an A5 pad to jot down weight and exercise targets and overall objectives, thoughts activities and achievements, and keep track of my various health issues.
Playing around with weight and what I might aim for, I noted that a 10% weight loss would get me well within the healthy BMI and would need a 17lb weight loss. That's my current overall aim; my first target is to get below 12 stone which would put me right at the top of the healthy BMI range. I had originally thought of aiming for 10-5 which is the middle of BMI range but it's a long way off, so I think I'll consider it when I am maintaining 11-2 😀 (Not if!)
I'm not setting myself dates because failure to deliver by a certain time definitely sees me depressed...
Good morning! Wow, what a great start to the year for you, with a 2 pounds loss - Congratulations!!!
Lovely to hear that you've started a brand new health diary - to jot down your weight and exercise targets and overall objectives, thoughts, activities and achievements, and to keep track of your health issues. That is such a great thing to do, and will be a valuable tool in your success over the year, I feel sure.
You've set your goal overall, and also your first target to get below 12 stone.
I love your tip for this week 'Be kind to yourself' - that is a good tip and I hope we all follow it.
Great to see you again. I think Ruth will probably put you down as a re-starter here, as you last weighed in 6 weeks ago, and your starting weight today is 13 stone 5 pounds. Great that you're re-starting the NHS 12 week plan, and hope you have a great first week.
I also find the 12's very elusive, but let's hope we both get there this year. Hopefully with the support and encouragement of this forum, and the NHS 12 week plan advice, we'll succeed.
Hi I am Lardlegs age 49. This is my first weigh in, I am 16-7 and would like to be 10-7. I have tried to lose weight so many times I have lost count, this has got to be a lifestyle change, so I am starting to follow the nhs 12 week plan again.
A very warm welcome to you, and thanks for joining us for this Monday group weigh-in. I hope you felt ok sharing your starting weight today. I sometimes think that's the hardest part, which is why we make it optional to share or not - actually it's important to only share what you feel comfortable with so everything is optional...!
I agree that having a lifestyle change is the way to go with losing weight. I think the NHS 12 week plan does offer a lifestyle change, and many of us have found it really helpful in that respect. I hope you will find it helpful too. It may help to also use an app (e.g. Myfitnesspal or something similar) to make it easier to track calories and exercise etc. You can also do graphs of your weight loss etc if you like that kind of thing - a good record of progress over the year.
I hope you have a great first week, and that the week goes well and is enjoyable. Great to have you on board with us.
Well here is my first weigh in of 2016 and with this group.
I am 11stone 10lbs, this is better than Christmasses past where I have headed into the 12s.
I am therefore in the red on the BMI, unhealthy.
1. Ultimate Goal: 10st (it is a very long time since I have been in the 9st range. When I get to 10 I will decide if it sensible to try for 9 10... which used to be my ideal.)
Ultimate loss: 24lbs
Goal 1 back to 11stone.
I am not going to put time deadlines as I know when I miss them I get down hearted. I have a big wedding anniversary this year so being trimmer for that would be great.
2. I also have a fat % of 39. 3% and I would love to get that within the healthy range for my sex and age. So to get to 34% would get me just in there!
3. I would also like to improve my fitness. I play team sport regularly but am not as fit as I would like to be. So will be increasing cardio with bike.
4. I am part of Lizzi's round the world so want to hit that target with steps alone.
5. I would like to tone up too so aim for 3 weight sessions per week.
6. I also have some health goals which will tackle my sleep, stress and alcohol intake. So 8 hours sleep 5 times a week; meditate daily; drink only 2 days per week and moderately.
Phew!
I have to get ready for work now so no time to read all your posts on here. However i will do this when I get back this evening, looking forward to reading about all your progress and pledges!
I'm working from the bottom of the posts for a moment, and I know Moreless is in the house, and I know it's a busy day today. There are lots of new people starting for the New Year, which is really encouraging!
Great to see you today Asics, and I remember communicating with you on a couple of posts during the week. I particularly liked your post about your healthy diary for recording all your year's progress. I hope you're enjoying using that.
Great that you've shared your starting weight, and it's good that it's better than previous Christmasses - that must feel like a positive start. You're starting in the 11's, whereas previously you'd have seen the 12's on the scale - that is certainly a very positive start.
I love the goals you've set forward for the year - they are all really great, and I'm sure you'll enjoy being part of Lizzy's Around the World Challenge - kicking the KMs will be motivating and help us all keep on track with our fitness goals. Not to mention the adventures we'll enjoy visiting all the great places around the World of course.
I'm sure you'll have plenty to read later when you catch up with the thread this evening. I imagine it will be enormous by then! I hope the system will cope as it can get a bit glitchy when it gets very large.
First week, starting weight 13st 4lb need to lose 40lb to get a heathy BMI but as I haven't had one of those in over 26 years I am going to aim for 28lb this year. My daughter gets married in 17 weeks and if I could lose 17lb by then I would be over the moon. My problem is that the harder I try the more weight I put on. My aim is also to move more to stop my joints stiffening up. My challenges this week will be my sons birthday on Wednesday.
Hi and welcome jenni, it's great that you've joined us
Softly softly catchee monkey
This isn't a race, it's a new way of life and slow and steady is definitely the way to go.
Small achievable goals will be more encouraging for you than a race to lose 40lbs.
Walking is a great exercise and also good for loosening stiff joints, it costs nothing and can be done anywhere, even round the house
1lb a week sounds like a great target loss and if you jiggle your calories for the week a little ie consume slightly fewer than your daily allowance, you can save some up for a small treat at your son's birthday on wednesday
Enjoy your first week, good luck and happy birthday to your son
Hi, weight last week was 67.6kg, this morning 67kg. Bit disappointed and frustrated with myself, as I wanted to put in more effort than I did. Hopefully, this thread will keep me in check over the week....
Hi Hasna, it's great that you think this thread will help you stay on track and I'm positive it will
Don't be disappointed with a 0.6kg loss, that's a loss of 1.3lbs and puts you right in the middle of a healthy weekly weight loss. Any loss is a good loss and should be celebrated, so yaaaaay to you
This is a way of life now and you'll have good weeks and not so good weeks. If you start beating yourself up on a good week, you'll get down about the whole thing and give up!
Lift up your head and see that what you've achieved is fandabidozy!
I managed to lose about 10lb last year by not really following any particular plan, but need to lose another 3 stone, so I thought it would probably be best to follow something a bit more structured.
Weigh-in this morning 179.2 lbs
Target for week 1: Not to eat any unplanned snacks throughout the day and not to eat after my tea. Reduce the portion size of my tea.
I'm delighted that you've joined us today, I'm sure you'll find the group weigh-in motivating and encouraging
Well done for managing to lose 10lbs on your own and good luck with the NHS 12 week plan. There have been many success stories with it as you'll see if you read the posts.
I like the fact that you've set yourself small, achievable short-term targets, I'm sure they'll help you see a loss by next Monday
Oh my gosh, it's so busy today, I thought I'd better just quickly write my stats and get back to work
Lowcal, thank goodness you're going to stick with us for another year, where would we be without you? I'd so like to see you at least get into the 12's this year, if not 12st 7lbs Good luck with all your other goals too.
I've been hopping about with excitement this morning, because I achieved my goal for today, of losing 3st!!!
I've actually lost 5.7lbs this week, which seems a lot, but takes into account last week's anomaly on the scales of a gain.
I've also now lost 15% of my body weight, so I'm entering 2016 on a real high
My goals for this year, are
To have reached my goal weight by the end of the year. That's a loss of another 6st, so will be quite a challenge.
It is incredibly busy today, and I am so glad you're here working so hard alongside me this morning - your help is invaluable. I really appreciate your help and support as a Fabulous Fab 5'er.
I am absolutely thrilled to hear that you've achieved such a major milestone as losing a total of 3 stone - wow, that is so incredible, and I am soooooooo happy for you!!!! Many many Congratulations, Moreless, I can imagine you must be jumping around the house for joy - I realise you were hopping - the same thing really...!!!
You've lost 5.7 pounds this week, and as you know we counted your gain on the scales (Christmas excesses) last week, so you get the whole 5.7 pound loss for Ruth's stats - we count each and every part of that fantastic figure.
Talking of fantastic figures, you've lost 15% of your bodyweight, meaning your figure is doing really great.
Thanks for sharing such great goals for the year - I'm particularly happy to hear you're pledging to continue as a Fab 5'er, as I really do appreciate your support and hard-work. You are amazing. Along with the support of all the Fab 5'ers, I feel this thread is living and breathing and functioning well - without you all, I know it wouldn't work as well, and I'd be drowning under the weight - so it's good to be enjoying the swim, if you know what I mean - we're swimming together and making progress.
I'll have to go and have my breakfast now, but I'll be back later.
I am so thrilled with your fantastic successes Moreless. Congratulations!!! What an amazing start for 2016.
Thank you Trafford, I can always rely on you to say the loveliest things.
I've only achieved what I have because of you and others like you, who have shown me the way and given me the confidence to believe in my own abilities.
3 stone is amazing - in such a relatively short space of time as well You've been so dedicated - you must really feel like this is acheivable for you now - congratulations moreless
It's taken me a while but I've found it! The weigh in was so busy, I was trying to read everyone's stuff and I just didn't get through it all, never did find your post and was wondering how you were doing. I must admit I got side tracked when i remembered I was supposed to find the 80 days post and forgot to get back to trying to read all of the weigh in posts until just now.
So, wooooo hooooo, huge congrats on hitting the 3 stone loss, that is a fabulous way to start the New Year. You will be a shadow of your former self by the end of this year, I'm sure of it! Thanks for continuing to inspire us all, and for the idea of getting the pedals going. I'm still really interested to see if it will help this leg, fingers crossed eh. We watched the E.T. film the other day and I have this idea in my head that we will see you up there pedalling across the sky on your bike, you will have lost so much more weight again this year! We just need to get you a basket and an E.T. cuddly toy so that you look the part
Woop! Loving that your goal is to lose all 6 stone by the end of the year. We'll be cheering you on, through the downs as well as the ups. Hopefully mostly ups, or should that be downs (as in seeing the numbers go down)
Happy New Year to you, all the fab5 and everyone else🎉
Its been a great Christmas catching up with friends and family. Unfortunately eating and drinking too! I don't usually drink much alcohol do I don't feel that has helped!
On the 21st of December I weighed 12st 8.5lb and today I weight 12st 12.5lb, a gain of 4lb, not great but I know this could have been far worse (I know from past experience)!
Back on it today and have packed bag for work with yummy healthy food, I have my porridge for breakfast, feta and houmous salad for lunch and Greek yogurt with raspberries for this afternoons snack, tea will be leftover cottage pie from yesterday.
Good luck for your weight loss journeys this year.
Just about to leave for work and will catch up later this evening.
You're sounding very determined and very positive Nic, that has to bode well for a successful 2016
You're food for today has got me salivating, I'm sure you're going to enjoy it and if you continue in the same vein this week, you'll get rid of those pesky 4lbs quick sharp
Thanks moreless I've really enjoyed myfood so far today. Really enjoyed my food today, I really couldn't face any more buffet food or chocolate for a while !! 😱
Just to add to what Moreless has said - that you have gained 4 pounds since 21st December, which is 2 weeks ago, so we'll divide that by 2 so that makes a 2 pound gain for the weekly stats.
Negligible gain for the festive season, and I'm sure you'll soon get that off again.
Here we go 1st weigh in 16st 7lb . My aim is one day get to 11stone but I am realistic and 13stone size 14 would suit me fine. I was this weight and size 3years ago before back problems but I'm all healed now so no more excuses for me. Looking forward to getting under 16stone . Here's to a good week everyone 😊😊
Hi and welcome to the weigh-in TSCH, it's great that you could join us
Well done for posting your starting weight and for your long term goals
I am also aiming for 11 stone, but I've still to get down to 16st 7lbs yet, maybe we could encourage each other. I'm positive it's possible for both of us
13st would be a great interim weight and size 14 clothes sound like a dream
Welcome to the weigh-in, I'm delighted you've joined us
You're sounding totally focussed and determined, so I'm sure your journey is going to be a breeze
I'm so impressed with your running and your goal for the Brighton marathon. Maybe if any members live close by, they could join you, or at least come and cheer you on
Have a great first week, I can't wait to see how you get on
Welcome Stephb, I started at a similar point to you, at 12st4 with a 31.5inch waist, which is pretty slim for that weight - my hips were a lot larger than yours though! I've no doubt you can reach your 10st goal, as this is what I've managed to do, now at 10st2 and 27inch waist. So lots of luck for 2016 - you can do it! Also, mega respect for the marathon running - 4hr30 sounds like an excellent goal to aim for
Hi everyone I start the year weighing 12st 2lbs with an unhealthy BMI of 28.5. I need to lose 2 stones to get my BMI well into the healthy range so my goal this year is to lose 2 stones. I've never weighed that for 30 years. So here goes!
The beauty of being here, is that 99% of us are also overweight
Don't be so hard on yourself, you've made a life changing decision to do something about your weight, health and self-esteem and you should be proud of yourself
Believe me, I know the effect of weight gain on your psyche. I put on approximately 7st in 4 years and totally hated myself. Fortunately, like you, I had the good luck to find this site and I haven't looked back since. In 17 weeks, I've lost 3st and feel like a new person and I know it will be the same for you too
Chin up, be positive and move into 2016 with a spring in your step. You can do this and we can help!
99% are overweight and the other 1% were recently overweight and are working hard to make sure they don't go back there again. In total that makes 100% in a good position to support newbies
8am - I'm going to have my breakfast, but I'll be back later. It's very busy today, and we're happy about that.
Just to say that one or more of the Fab 5'ers will respond to your post 'at some point during the day and/or evening' - so please be patient if you haven't had a reply yet - also, to those people that I don't reply to directly, I will always indicate that I've read your post by clicking on 'like' - so if I've not clicked it yet, it means I've not read it yet. Hope that makes sense.
But I will read each and every post myself by the end of the day, to ensure that everyone has had a reply from one or more of us.
Morning. I'm back from spending 2 weeks at my parents in Norway and allowed myself to eat what ever i wanted. I'm surprised to say I've only gained 1.5kg in the 2 weeks.
my weight today is 84.1 kg.
My goals for 2016 is to carry on loosing weight and hopefully get down to a normal bmi by August (holiday booked to Spain)
Welcome back Carpo, I hope you had a great time with your parents
Well done for such a small gain over the fortnight. I suspect that whilst you thought you were eating excessively, in actual fact the new you was far more discriminating when it came to food choices and amounts
I'm sure you'll reach a healthy BMI by the time you go to Spain in August
Have a great week and here's to seeing the back of that 1.5kgs
Just to say that I'll divide the 1.5 kg gain by 2 weeks, to make 0.75kg gain for this week's stats. That's not very much considering you've been on holiday in Norway at your parents' place. Hope you had a lovely time.
Wishing you a great week ahead.
Lowcal
Good morning Lowcal, great start to the year with a loss! I like the sound of your new year pledges too. I hope you'll reach the 12st7 goal once and for all, or at least achieve the toning/increased fitness you're looking for. Also amazing to hear you're running 5k now, the gym is working well for you! In preparation for running outside, can you try increasing the incline a little on the treadmill? This is meant to help prepare you for the extra resistance felt when running outdoors. Good luck whatever you decide to do, improving your time is a good way to keep it interesting too
I'm weighing in at 10st2 today, which is 2lbs less than last week. But I'm putting this down to natural fluctuations as it keeps me within my maintaining range of 10st0-10st7 still. This year I'd like to definitely stay in that range. I'm at the upper end of my healthy BMI but it's a good size for my build. I'd like to continue the trend I began last year towards increasing my fitness. My running has drifted a lot in recent weeks, but in Oct/Nov I got to 8k. So after easing myself back in I'd like to build from that to 10k and maybe enter an event. Happy new year everyone
Thanks Trafford1, your encouragement makes me feel all the more that I should work towards that 10k. I still feel like 5k is an amazing achievement, and it's been several weeks since I even ran that far, so I think the 10k may have to wait a while. But never say never. Happy 2016 to you too Trafford1 - wishing you loads of success and an amazing year too
Er - no to the marathon - thanks very much! But my friend is running in the marathon this year so I may do what I've done in the past and leapfrog her by bike, racing from viewing point to viewing point to cheer her on in as many places as possible
Hi Ruth (lovely stats woman and Fabulous Fab 5'er),
Thanks for your very kind comments, and encouragement to me, as well as your amazing help with this thread - you are great! I know I'm always saying it, but it's true! We all appreciate you.
Well done for being so well within your maintaining range - and infact losing 2 pounds this week. That is great.
Thanks for your comments about the 5k - I actually run on the treadmill on an incline of 'one' - what incline would you recommend - should I step it up?
Good luck with your goal to build up from 8k to 10k - that is really good, and let us know when you decide to enter an event - we'll cheer you on!
Hope your day has been good so far at work, and catch up with you very soon.
If you're already running on an incline then you're totally there - I reckon a few sunny weekends and you'll be raring to go to see what it feels like to run outdoors. The key is to have beautiful scenery and good music - you can take your gym with you - make it however you want it to be
Thanks Ruth, it's good to know the gradient is ok - I wasn't sure what to choose, but it feels comfortable running at that gradient.
I'll look forward to those sunny weekends and to enjoying the experience of running outdoors - I've done it a couple of times in the past, but never consistently.
I'm off to bed now, so night night - sleep well yourself and catch up with you in the week.
Welcome newbies and well done regulars - even though it is not Christmas, it is still a difficult time of year, where the tasty treats are still hanging around and dark, dreary weather keeping us indoors.
I lost another 2lbs this week, which brings my total weight lost to 3stone - woohoo!
Wow, 7lbs was a big loss, but as you say, that was getting rid of the Christmas excesses.
I'm sure that if you stick to the plan, you will see the back of those 42lbs for ever.
This journey is not just about losing the weight, but about learning to live within the structure of a healthy lifestyle and that means never regaining that extra weight again
Hi everyone , good luck to everyone this week especially those starting out. Am weighing in at 12st 2lb a loss of 2.5 lb and now at top end of healthy weight for my height ! So very pleased, thanks to all the team replying today you must be very busy. x
Morning Lowcal well done on losing this week, sadly another gain for me this week despite mammoth exersise 3/4 lb making me 11st 2 and 1/4. Chocolate and cheese just about gone mainly into my tummy 😳
Long term goal 10st 10lbs by Easter - so 6lbs
Short term is tricky we are having a new kitchen fitted starting today so would like not to gain during this time so 3 weeks
Great to see you - and a very warm welcome to the Monday group weigh-in. I know it's your first time in such a group, so I really hope that you enjoy being part of our community and that we can help and support you on your weight-loss journey.
You've shared your starting weight - which is a brave step - so thank you for doing that, and I hope you felt reasonably comfortable doing so. Hopefully this will be your heaviest weight from now on, and you'll be lighter this time next week.
Do take a look at the NHS 12 week plan, as it provides an excellent structure and lots of helpful advice. Let me know if you can't find it, and I'll give you a link.
Wishing you a great week ahead, and will look forward to seeing how you get on at next week's weigh-in.
Your post is extremely inspiring, and I am so pleased to hear how much you enjoyed Christmas, and to have gained 5 pounds over the entire period, and then have already lost 3 of those pounds is really great! I am in awe of your 100.8kms kicked via biking, running and walking - that is phenomenal, and Lizzy and the rest of us Around the World Challenge participants will be thrilled - as you are helping us get a long way. Wow!!!
You just have 2 pounds left to get off to achieve the total loss of 92 pounds, and I have to say I am sure that will be achieved very very soon - as you are really focused and determined, and having your Wedding approaching is such a wonderful occasion - really glad you've found the perfect jewellery and shoes to go with your dress - I am sure you will look so beautiful on your special day. Really exciting!
Great to hear you've lost 4 inches off your legs and half an inch off your waist as well - a good example of how taking body measurements can help see changes, even when the scales have shown a slight increase. I haven't measured my legs - so I don't know how they've changed over time.
Great that you're on board with us, and you'll soon be a maintainer - you're getting ever closer to your ultimate goal weight, and I'm really inspired by your enthusiasm.
You'll be getting your new computer in 4 days, so you can say goodbye to the hypen-speak next week! I bet that will be a relief.
Wishing you a great week ahead, and thanks so much for your continued support with regard to my goals - I really appreciate your help.
Congrats for getting straight back on it Trafford1. It sounds like you're totally back on it now. I don't imagine you'll be sitting down much over the next six weeks! But listen to your body if you think it may be getting too much. 100kms is impressive but also a LOT! Good luck for reaching your goal healthily and asap
You're totally amazing Trafford. Everything you do and say is so positive , I've never got a negative vibe from you and that is absolutely amazing
Could you please organise for your wedding to be televised, because we'd love to be there with you on your special day You are going to be the most beautiful bride xx
Happy New Year. I joined last year but blew it almost immediately unfortunately. However, I'm back. Today I weigh 12st 13lb which is about 3st more than I would like to be. I'm doing a few days of juicing to get back into the zone and want to get back into the gym. Feeling positive and looking forward to a thinner and healthier 2016! Good luck everyone.
Happy New Year. I remember you from last year. Glad to see you back. Great that you're re-starting at the start of the New Year, and thanks for sharing your starting weight.
Hope your juicing goes well - have you got one of those gadgets that incorporates the entire contents of the vegetables and fruit, i.e. including the pulp and fibre etc, as it can be good to re-incorporate the pulp and fibre via adding it to soups and sauces etc if it does remove it - there's a lot of goodness in those bits. I hope you don't mind my saying that, it's not meant to be a downer on your wish to juice - purely a comment that you might not necessarily have thought of. My intention is to support you, not to judge you. I don't do juicing myself, but I have heard there are some healthy mixtures, and especially with the gadgets which incorporate the entire vegetable and fruit.
It's great that you're feeling positive, as that's a great feeling to start the year, and should help you achieve your goals - here's to a thinner and healthier 2016.
Lowcal, I'm really pleased you have started to lose your Christmas gain already
I weighed in at 17st9&3/4 last week and was fairly sure that wasn't the end of it.. And I was right! I have weighed in today at 17st11&1/4 so a further gain of 1&1/2lbs for the whole festive period
I started dry January on Friday which will save me far too many calories and I'm onboard the round the world challenge and have dragged my hubby along (because he'll force me out the door with him now!)
I hope its onwards and downwards for all of us by next week
Good morning, and Happy New Year to you!!! Great to see you, and thanks so much for your very kind and encouraging words. They are much appreciated.
You've gained 1.5 pounds this week, so hopefully that will be the last of the Christmas excess out of the way, and now you're starting Dry January plus being onboard for the Around the World Challenge - that will help you to shift the weight again and be well on the way towards your goals. Fantastic that you've got your husband on board as well - particularly as he sounds like he'll help to motivate you - and you can motivate one another. Great plan!
Onwards and downwards for us all by next week - we can do it!
Lowcal
First weight in Over the holidays I have stayed the same weight 15st 10 1/2lb. Now I am on the road to weight loss. New year new start good luck everyone.
A very warm welcome to you, and thanks so much for joining us for this Monday group weigh-in - our first of the New Year - so wishing you a Very Happy New Year.
Well done for staying the same weight over the holidays, that is really good - most people gain during this time of year, so to have maintained your weight is an achievement.
Thanks for sharing your starting weight, and I hope that felt ok to do so. You're on the road to weight loss now, and I hope the journey is an enjoyable one. I feel like we're all on a wagon together - supporting and cheering each other on.
A very warm welcome to you, and thanks for joining us in this Monday group weigh-in. I hope you'll enjoy being part of this group and find it supportive and helpful to your new way of life - you've shared your starting weight, and i hope that felt ok to do so.
I would recommend the NHS 12 week plan, as it gives structure and also advice and I think of it as being like a lifestyle choice rather than a diet, and therefore more sustainable. Let me know if you have any difficulty accessing the plan - or if you don't know where to look for it, and I'll give you a link.
Wishing you a great week ahead, and hope to catch up with you at next Monday's weigh-in.
Happy New Year!!! It is thrilling to hear you've beaten the 2 stone weight loss barrier - that is such great news to hear, and what an excellent start to the New Year! Congratulations!!!
Another 1 pound off this week, fantastic!
Great that you hope to get to goal this year, and to maintain once you get there - those are great goals to have. Here's to a fitter and more toned you by the end of the year as well.
Good morning from a cool & dark Falkirk. This is day one for me and my stats are:
Weight: 286 pounds (20 st & 6 pounds)
Waist: 56 inches
BMI: 39.8
I am a relatively fit 61 year old male and will follow the 5:2 diet and incorporate HIT exercise into my weekly routine. My goal for 11th Jan is 280 pounds.
I am looking forward to being part of this community.
Great that you've joined us for this Monday group weigh-in - a very warm welcome to warm you up in cool and dark Falkirk!
Thanks for sharing your starting weight, and I hope that felt ok to do so. Great that you've also taken your waist measurement - I find that taking body measurements definitely helps to see differences in body shape, and can be particularly motivating on those weeks when the scales don't necessarily reflect changes. It's not all about the scales, but we do like to include weight in our weekly stats, as it does help motivate us as a group.
Great that you've got your weight loss plan worked out, and best of luck with doing the 5:2 diet, plus HIT exercise - sounds like a good combination. There is a member on healthunlocked called 'Gingernut49' (I think that's her name, but not completely sure of the 49), and she is a great advocater of the 5:2 diet. I've never really got on with it, although I did try it a while back - I found I felt fatigued during the fasting days, but hopefully you'll have a better experience. I think people vary quite a bit regarding what works for them.
Really glad that you're part of this community, and hope you'll enjoy participating.
Many thanks for your kind and supportive words - much appreciated. I am rapidly finding out that losing weight, for me at least, is much more than eating less and moving more!
Sharing my measurements is easy as if you saw me you could work out why I was Santa for Falkirk Community Trust!
The 5:2 diet is a challenge in many ways and I will give it a 3 month trial.
I hope I can be a supportive member of this group and will spend some time at the weekend on how to be a positive member of the community.
Thanks Steve, and hope you enjoy your week. It's great that you'll be contributing within the community - I'll look forward to seeing you 'out and about' in the forum.
I think giving the 5:2 diet a 3 month trial should give you a good idea regarding whether it suits you.
Welcome to the Monday group weigh-in, it's great to have you with us, and thanks for sharing your starting weight. Hopefully you'll be seeing the 13's very soon - I hope you have a plan to help you lose the weight - if you've not seen it, I would recommend the NHS 12 week plan as a good structure and it contains lots of helpful advice. You can access it via the icon in the top middle part of the screen, entitled 'Weight Loss NHS' and click through till you find the 12 week downloadable pages. Definitely worth a look if you've not seen it.
Whatever you decide to do, I wish you a great first week, and hope to catch up with you next week.
Welcome to the Monday group weigh-in thread, and it's great that you've joined us. Week 1 and you've shared your starting weight. I'm assuming you've already seen the NHS 12 week plan, as you mentioned week 1 - but if not, then do take a look - it's a great structure and lots of good advice.
Thinking about mini goals and your ultimate weight loss goal may help along the way, so something to consider.
I wish you a really good week, and hope it all goes well.
Hi I am a newbie and I have weighed in for the first time today so I have my starting point of 11.11 I would love to be able to run again easily as 3 years ago I did the London Marathon and I want to be back there again but not putting the excess weight on my knees!!! My aim is to lose slowly by calorie counting and by exercising a small amount each day. Good luck to everyone and hopefully we can all see the numbers going down and the clothes getting more comfortable again!!!!!
A very warm welcome to you and thanks for joining us for this Monday group weigh-in. I hope you felt ok sharing your starting weight. All the 11's currently, and hopefully you'll be lighter by this time next week. Great that you have some running goals to work towards, and well done for doing the London Marathon last year - that is amazing.
You've got sensible aims, and I hope you have a great first week. You might want to also take a look at the NHS 12 week plan, if you haven't already seen it - it is really good. Let me know if you can't find it, and want to take a look, and I'll post the link.
Ok, here I go. My first week on here. I joined mid week last week, weighing 99.4kg - this morning I weighed 97.7 kg. I am aware the first weight loss is mainly water and the future weigh in will not be big. My aim is to loose 1kg a week, which will mean that in 6months I will be in a healthy weight range - not obese or overweight, just healthy.
I am returning to the gym and following a 1400cal food plan that avoids sugar and alcohol. I am using a gym buddy to get me (and her) motivated to go and other friends for walks as opposed to coffee (and cakes!) . I have recharged and firmly fixed my Fitbit to my wrist to count steps, and my iPod for music in the gym.
Here's to 2016 - I think this forum is going to be a big help and motivator.
Welcome Gil great to see you have set out your goals and look forward to celebrating success with you - gym buddies are great, if they do classes try a few and see what suits you best of luck
Mooreless well done to you for loosing 5 lbs this week and reaching 3 stones wow! You are dancing around your house and kicking all those km you will see, you will very soon get yourself a new wardrobe at the rate you are going with all those celebrations and you are still loosing. You surely deserve a gold medal! You are are the star for this week!
Hi there, I've followed 12 week plan and lost 2lb this week. Had too much wine with new year celebrations So delighted to see a loss! 68lbs to go to get to target and I'm up for it happy new year everyone
Happy New Year! This is my first weigh in and my starting weight is 13st 7lbs exactly (urgh). Officially my top "healthy" BMI is 11st 2lbs so that's what I'm aiming for. So 2st 5lbs to go. I know this won't be easy and there will be a few blips along the way, but I'm hoping that with you guys behind me, I can do it! First job today is clearing out the remains of the new year party food from the fridge (I'm in Scotland and it goes on a bit longer up here lol!) Good luck to everyone fighting the battle of the belly this year x
A very warm welcome to you, and thanks so much for joining us for this Monday group weigh-in. You've shared your starting weight, and I realise from your expressive 'urgh' in brackets that you didn't really enjoy doing that, so I am sorry - it's hopefully the worst part over with, and you can look forward to being lighter in future weeks.
Good luck with clearing out the remains of your New Year party food - and here's to fighting the battle of the belly and succeeding this year.
Wishing you a great first week - the NHS 12 week plan is a good structure and full of great advice - I think you've perhaps already seen this, as you have already looked at your BMI etc.
Ok this is my first weigh in and I am 10st 3lbs! My goal is to lose a clean stone as i'm only 5"3'! I just printed out the sheets on here to track my exercise and eating plan. Already went out for a run with the dog
A very warm welcome to you, and thanks for joining us for this Monday group weigh-in. You've taken the first brave step of sharing your starting weight, and I hope you felt comfortable doing that. Great that you've got your NHS 12 week plan sheets printed out to track your exercise and eating plan. I would also recommend trying an app alongside - as it makes the calorie counting part much easier - something like Myfitnesspal is a good one as it's free and easy to use.
Great that you've already been out for a run this morning with your dog. Great exercise!
Wishing you a great week ahead, and will look forward to catching up with you at next week's weigh-in.
Morning lowcal and everyone else and happy new year!
Well done lowcal on your loss this week a great start to the year.
This week ive stayed at 10st 7lb which im happy with maintaining considering what passed my lips this week.
My aim is to get to my healthy range so in the 9s will be good and to up my exercise levels which will be achieved as i went and bought that contraption (unsure of what its called) you attach your bike to turn it into an excercise bike so looking forward to adding my kms to the around the world challenge.
Good luck all for this week and the for hitting our targets x
Morning, and thanks very much for your kind words.
I hope you enjoyed the festive season, and it's so great to hear that you've managed to maintain your weight at this challenging time. Congratulations! That is really great!
Great that you've adapted your bike so you can use it indoors as an exercise bike. You'll be burning up the calories, and kicking lots of kms for the Around the World Challenge. I think it's so great that Lizzy has set up such a motivating Challenge - it really inspires me to do more exercise, which is exactly what I need - as it's a key part of my year's goals.
Enjoy your cycling, and hope you have another great week ahead.
First weigh in today. 82.6k, with a waist of 104cm. Weight loss calculator has recommended loss target of 14.3k. It seems like a lot, but I really need to do something as my tummy is far too wobbly and we're aiming for a foreign holiday.... need I say more, lol!
Am also going to try really hard with calorie counting, and - shock to all my friends - am going dry for January!
Hello to you! A very warm welcome, and thanks for joining us for this Monday group weigh-in. I hope you felt comfortable sharing your starting weight, and also it's great that you've included your waist measurement. Pleased to hear you used the weight loss calculator. Break your total weight loss goal down into mini goals/targets, and it will feel more achievable. You can then see how you feel as you achieve each target, and decide what weight you personally feel comfortable with. Great that you have a foreign holiday to look forward to, and work towards. That is very motivating.
Are you using an app to help make it easier to keep track of the calories? I can recommend something like Myfitnesspal - as it's free and easy to use.
Wishing you success with Dry January, and wishing you a great week ahead.
Lowcal
p.s. Good luck!!!!
Good Morning all,
Happy new year lowcal and other posters
This is my second weigh in and I have lost 2 pounds from last week and I am now 11st.
My aim for this year is to get fitter and healthier!
Fantastic to hear you've achieved a loss of 2 pounds in your 1st week, and that you're now 11 stone. On the cusp of the 10's - fantastic!!! Congratulations. That's a great first week, and especially good at this time of year.
Wishing you lots of success with your goals to be fitter and healthier this year.
I'm back. I may have got a bit distracted towards the end of last year but I'm back to join you for the long haul now and second time lucky eh? Starting weight this morning is 16,1. I can't remember what I last weighed into the forum as. I think it was 15,13 so let's say a gain of 2lbs. But i know i got back up to 16,7 at some point between then and now so I'm happy with today's starting point overall. Well not happy, but you know what i mean. My resolution this year is to post on the Monday weigh in at least 45 of the 52. And I'm still striving for my four stone loss.
Welcome back!!! Great to see you! I'm so happy that you're back with us for the long haul, and yes - second time lucky is sure to be the case! Thanks for sharing your starting weight - hopefully you'll be leaving those 16's behind very soon! We won't put a gain on the stats, as you've not been with us for some time, and therefore we'll count you as a new starter (re-starter). I know you did go up to 16 stone 7 pounds at one point, so you've basically lost 6 pounds since that time and maintained that loss. So you're going in the right direction. Hence you're feeling relatively good about your starting weight - I completely understand what you mean.
Thanks also for sharing your resolutions for the year. They sound great!
I maintained this week and after falling off the wagon yesterday, two dinner parties and a NYE party I'm happy-ish!! Back to work this week, nothing social planned involving eating and yoga and badminton booked in.....
Congratulations on maintaining your weight this week, despite all those social occasions and falling off the wagon yesterday - most people would have gained weight after so many dinner parties and the NYE party, so you've definitely done well to maintain.
Great that you've booked your Yoga and Badminton sessions, and hope you enjoy them. Hope going back to work is ok too.
Happy New Year all! Amazing results last year! So this is my re focus after 2 weeks of over eating , not being accountable etc etc. So currently weigh 12.8 stone, would like to get to 11.11 to reach a healthy BMI, first goal. I have been up and down around this weight and dipping into the 11s for a few weeks before Christmas, so time to do it, as never made it there for a Monday weigh in. First some considerable extra Christmas pounds to shift! I feel Ok as this time last year there was considerable more to lose, and I know, I know what to do , including using this support so need to get on with it.
Happy New Year! Yes, the results were indeed amazing for last year.
Great to hear you're re-focusing after 2 weeks of over-eating etc. You've shared your starting weight for this year, and your goals for the coming year. It's great that you were dipping into the 11's for a few weeks before Christmas, and hopefully you'll soon get the Christmas excesses off to be back to your pre-Christmas weight in no time. Like you say, you've achieved a lot over the year, and you are lighter this time than you were at the same time last year - that is a fantastic start to the New Year, and it's onwards and downwards from here on in, so it's all good!
Here's to achieving our goals this year - we can do it!
First weigh in here today! 11st 13lb. Target is 10st 7lb not sure on timescale.
Started with NHS BMI calc a few weeks ago, which gave me a target of 11st.11lb and 1200 calories from my then 12st 7lb. Usually fail on weight loss after the initial first losses, so hope to keep going this time, after reading all the supportive messages on here. Using myfitnesspal to log calories, and find that I'm probably getting more exercise just by running backwards and forwards from the kitchen to log calories, which I haven't done before! All the best to you all and thanks lowcal for giving us the opportunity to log our changes.
The timescale isn't as important as the commitment, so if you're determined to lose those excess 20lbs, you will
Being in a group like this is so motivating and it encourages you to achieve more than you ever dreamed possible, so I'm sure, that with our support, you'll reach your goal and stay there
Hi Everyone, I'd like to join you all on your weightloss journey. I weigh 85.3kg and my BMI is 30.3. I'm fairly active and would rather be out doing something than sitting around but my body fat percentage is a bit too high, so I need to improve that too. My first goal will be to get my BMI down below 30.
Good luck everyone and many thanks Lowcal and the Fab5 for doing the stats and all your work.
Yes, please do join us on our weigh-loss journey. It's great to have you on board with us. You've shared your starting weight, and I hope that felt ok to do so. Great to hear you're fairly active, and that you'd rather be out doing something than sitting around. You have set your first goal, and you want to focus on getting your body fat percentage down too.
On behalf of the Fab 5'ers, I thank you for your kind words - and the stats are down to the fabulous Fab 5'er Ruth_Canal_Runner - she's a whizz at our stats and she always does such a great job.
Wishing you a great first week, and look forward to catching up with you next week, and hopefully around and about in the forum inbetween. There are lots of great posts and discussions most days!
Morning, happy new year to you Lowcalcall and everyone. I'm afraid my last weight was 13.4 and I'm now 13.5 so have gained 1lb. I am restarting my exercise classes tomorrow, health walk on Wednesday and the gym on Thursday with walks in between and exercises at home. Fingers crossed the Christmas weight takes a hike! All the very best to everyone and all your endeavours.
Your 1 pound gain is hopefully going to soon melt away - the Christmas excesses and left-over food can scupper us for a while after, but hopefully the fact you're re-starting your exercise classes tomorrow, and you've got the health walk on Wednesday, plus gym on Thursday - wow, with walks inbetween (excellent!) and home exercises too - they should all add up to some great results next week, alongside healthy eating of course.
Your Christmas weight should definitely take a hike - send it on its way!!!
Wishing you a great week ahead, and enjoy all your activities.
Day one and 1st weigh in: 70k (11 stones). 7 years ago I felt great: 5'2" weighing 60k, eating healthy and being active; 4 Grandkiddies later you'd think that would be easy to maintain but not so easy with dodgy hip & Knee. I know I can strengthen those areas by walking and swimming. Health Unlocked, family & friends please help! Scales and pedometer please remind me to use you! Good luck everyone.
A very warm welcome to you, and thanks for joining us for this Monday group weigh-in. Hope you felt ok sharing your starting weight - you're on the cusp of the 60 kgs (10's regarding stones) so hopefully you will be celebrating that transition this time next week!
Great that you are able to work towards strengthening your dodgy hip and knee with walking and swimming (really good forms of exercise - and hope you enjoy them). We're here for you in this weigh-in group, and the forum and community as a whole are so supportive - it really is a great place for online weight-loss support. I hope your family and friends will also help to support you. Sometimes we have discussions of how to cope when we come across less than helpful responses, or relatives and friends who try to offer us foods that we'd rather not accept - it can be a minefield sometimes, but being pre-prepared and discussing ways to cope can really help handle the situations in the future.
Great that you've got your scales and pedometer at the ready, but I suspect they won't be able to remind you to use them, you'll probably need to think of a strategy to help yourself to use them...
Hi. Congratulations on all the weight you have lost. I'm joining the weight loss challenge today. I have already lost 5k up to now. I want to lose 4 more and it is becoming really difficult. I now weigh 67.4 kilos. I hope I will be constant and weigh in every monday. Best of luck to everyone. I hope we can all support eachother.
A very warm welcome, and it's great that you're joining us for the Monday group weigh-ins. It's lovely to have you as part of our group, and I hope you'll enjoy it. Firstly, many Congratulations on already achieving a loss of 5 kgs, that is fantastic!!!
Most of us use the NHS 12 week plan, so do take a look if you feel it might help. Using an app like Myfitnesspal will also help regarding tracking food and drink intake and exercise etc.
Wishing you a great week ahead, and yes, supporting each other is definitely the way to go. Great to have you with us.
My first official weigh-in. I started my weight loss plan on Jan 1st and weighed in at 18st 13.2lb. Today I am 18 11.4lbs .... a loss of 1.8lbs. If that counts towards your stats, all good and well. If not, I just wanted to post it for self motivation.
My goal is to continue to record all my calories, am committed to the weekly weigh-in and to increase my activity and contribute to the Around the World in 80 days challenge.
Well done to all the losers this week. For those who did not, stay on whatever plan you are on - a small blip at Christmas is totally understandable.
Welcome! Although your weight loss since you started won't officially count for our Monday group's weekly stats, as you have just started with us today - but remember that if you are still posting in December 2016, that will be when we'll be doing the totals for our overall weight lost over the year, so it would definitely be included in the yearly stats - so do keep a record of your total weight loss over the year if you'd like to contribute that.
Meanwhile any changes in your weight over this week - hopefully losses, will be included in next week's stats, so wishing you a fantastic week!
Well here goes. Never been one for group therapy but a pacemaker and two new hips mean I can join the human race again after a miserable 7 years. So am using any and every means possible to lose weight and get fit. so here are my stats which make pretty embarrassing reading but hey ho, cards on the table.
Morning all...weighing in for the first time and scales say my starting weight is 12 stone 5.7 lbs! I would like to lose 2 stone overall but my mini goal would be to be 11stone something by the end of january.
Back to gym this afternoon.. nice to be held accountable....think its what i need!
Happy New Year everyone, time to get back to healthy living, after the Christmas blow out.
This time last year I joined the group and weighed 14.1, I got down to 12.8 for my holidays at the end of April and went up and down a few pounds but kept under 13 stone, however I am 13.4 this morning which I am not suprised at with all the food and drink over Christmas.
I am struggling walking at the moment as strained my knee a week ago while out walking the dog so that isn't helping, I will be glad when I can get back out walking again.
I am going to sort out my healthy recipes today and going to have a dry January, I did this last year and allthough I am not an excessive drinker the calories are still there.
My weight goal is to get to 12.7 for my holidays towards the end of April so 11lbs to go.
Good Luck to everyone for a good loss this first week of 2016 and thankyou to Local and her helpers for all the support in 2015.
You've not had a massive increase over the festive season, so I expect you'll get rid of those few pounds quite quickly
Sorry to hear that you strained your knee, that must have been painful and not good for the exercising either I hope it feels better very soon and that you'll be able to get out with the dog.
Maybe you could post some of your healthy recipes, I'm sure we'd all love to share them
Good luck with dry Jan, you're not the first to have started it. I think everyone's feeling the consequences of excesses, or wasted calories
Good luck with your goal of 12st 7lbs and hope you have a great week
10.22am I can see lots of people joining us today - it's really great! I am just off to the gym now, but I'll be back later. I'm going to hopefully kick some Kms whilst I'm in the gym to contribute to the Around the World in 80 days challenge (run by Lizzy).
Okay so today is my new life start!! Double organ transplant Sept 14 (kidney & pancreas) lots of adjusting to do and have kinda binged a bit on all of the sweet stuff that I previously hadn't been able to eat during 27yrs of diabetes!! So weight gain last year was 10kg 😳 Okay so a bit of that is muscle as have completed to C25K and been using the gym etc but I still would like to lose about 6-8kg maybe even 10kg to get back to the 54kg that I was!!
So today I will start the 12 week plan, just about to go shopping now and have loaded hubby up with all the naughty Christmas foods to take to work!!
Treadmill ordered for home gym (currently cross trainer, rowing machine, weights benches, sit up bench, trampoline & lots of free weights) as have really caught the running bug but quite rural so not happy running in the dark after work!!
So today I'm 63.80kg.
Really looking forward to being a part of your group & being motivated to achieve my 2016 goals (6kg to lose initially). Oh and possibly the Oxford Half Marathon in Oct, so the less weight to lug around the better 😉 X
What a fantastically positive post, considering the challenges you've had to face. Well done you for not going under, but rising to the challenge
I have to admit to a touch of the green-eyed monster reading about your home gym.......................oh...........if only
There's been a lot of talk about marathons and half marathons on the thread today, so I think it's time we had our own cheerleading squad, what do you reckon?
Lots of luck with all your goals and wishing you a fab first week
Lol, it's all secondhand apart from the weights bench I bought hubby for his birthday and the treadmill I've just bought was my present to myself as hadn't spent my bonus from work yet 😉 Love a bit of a bargain!
Just hoping I can lose some of this extra weight as it doesn't make exercise any easier that's for sure!! X
Have you had a look at the NHS 12 week plan? It's a great way to start your journey, as it gives lots of tips for healthy living, in a very simple, structured way.
Your goals sound very sensible and totally achievable and I wish you all good luck with them
Here's to a great first week
PS I'm forecasting that we'll lose a blue whale as a group this year
Am I right in thinking that you don't wish to publish your starting weight, because that's perfectly fine if you don't? You can just tell us what you've lost next week
If you need any assistance getting started, please don't hesitate to ask and we'll try our best to help you out
Have a great first week
Just putting myself down as 90 kg. moved to Monday weigh ins
Forgive me for my poor memory vintage, but were you at the weigh-in last Monday? If you were, that's fine, your 1lb will be included in the stats, but if not, then we have to take today as your starting day and the pound won't be included
I'm liking the analogy of a pound of mince, people have different ways of envisioning it eg butter, sugar etc
I think I weighed in last week, but it really doesn't matter. I'll take today as my starting point. Don't worry about not including that one pound, I have plenty more.
Moreless is right, you were definitely with us last week, and it's great to see you again. Congratulations on losing that pound, and we will definitely be counting it in the stats! Ruth will see to that, I feel sure. It all counts. Thank you for contributing such a great result.
Wishing you another great week ahead.

Just a quick note to say I'm counting the lb lost. On the basis that a lb lost is very important however it is lost and must therefore be counted!
Happy New Year to you all and I hope you had a lovely Christmas!
Its been a long time since I've been on here. A few months I believe. I had every intention to get back on here every week and stuff just got in the way or I'd forget... Excuses, excuses I know.
But its a new year and I'm here again now. Need to pull my finger out. Its only 24 weeks until my friends wedding and I am at the heaviest weight I've been thanks to Christmas scoffing...
As of this morning I weigh 13st 2.2lbs. I am disappointed to have gone over the 13st threshold but I wanted to at least enjoy the Christmas holidays a bit.
I have also noticed that MyFitnessPal has updated recently and you can now look back through all your weigh days since you've started the app. Looking back to this time last year I was 6lbs lighter, so knowing that I haven't made any progress all year is disheartening... I'm worse off than when I started!
But there we go. Moan over, and here's to a better year!
Welcome back Artsoru, it's great that you've returned to us
Sorry to hear that you're disappointed with your progress, or lack of, this year. However, not to worry, 2016 is going to be a good year. With 24 weeks until your friend's wedding, you could easily be into the 11's by then and think how good that would feel
I haven't weighed myself for a couple of weeks. Have been quite a piggy for the past 3 weeks, not really thinking about what I've been eating and drinking.
But I got on the scales this morning and - miracle of miracles! - I am 110kgs, exactly the same as 3 weeks ago. Not sure how that has happened. I guess I must have somehow changed my definition of "piggy". That must be good, right?
Whatever, it's a great bit of motivation to kick off the New Year.
I've just noticed what your ex said - that is evil indeed. Are you sure she's a good friend still? I challenge her description of you - I am sure you look lovely.
So last week was my newbie post and a starting weight of 12st 4lb. Today 12st 2lb, a good start and probably more than I expected. What did I change this week? Had 2 days without drinking cola, drank more water, had fewer lattes, and started up moderate exercise, have to take exercise carefully as have other medical problems. Ok second post over 😀
Good morning Lowcal and the Fab Four and a Happy Healthy New Year to all!
Inspiring to read of so many people making great starts and fab resolutions.
Well, I'm just back from a 2-week Caribbean cruise and this morning weigh in at 16.12.4. This means I've put on just under 4 lbs in a little over 2 weeks. In one way I'm quite disappointed because I tried v. hard to be careful and stick to my diet; in another I don't feel too bad because it could have been a LOT worse and hopefully I will shed the excess as fast as it went on. It's the start of a new week and a new year, I'm firmly back on track and determined to continue my weight loss "journey". Having lost 2 stone in 6-7 months last year, my goal is to lose another 2 stone in the same time frame, ready for my brother's wedding at the end of July.
I wish everyone great success with their personal weight loss and health goals this year and hope everyone has a fantastic week.
Welcome back Jiggly, I hope you had a truly fabulous time I bet it felt as though it was over in a flash.
I know you're disappointed to have gained 4lbs, especially as you tried so hard to stick to plan, but you're right, it's bound to come off quickly now that you're home and firmly back on track
Two stone off by July and your brother's wedding is a great goal and I wish you the best of luck for it
We had an amazing time, thanks moreless. It was to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary earlier in the year. It seemed like a nice long break, as it's the longest holiday we've taken in a long, long time, but it's a fast-receding memory as I tackle the mountains of washing! Will have to upload my photos to the PC to remind me of our fantastic holiday and the beautiful weather.
Happy 25th Wedding Anniversary!!! I won't add much to what Moreless has already said, except to say I think you did well to cope with a Cruise like that and not put on too much weight. It will soon be off again now you're back into your usual routine.
I've just joined today and my weight is 10 stone 3/4 of a pound, the most I've ever weighed. I'd like to get down to somewhere between 8.5 and 9 stone as I'm only just over 5ft tall
Happy new year lowcal well done on your weight loss well here goes i hoped for more of a loss but it's always something last week i was 16st 1lb this week l weigh 16st 4ozs thanks again for all your support and advice 😀
So I braved the scales and starting weight is - 13.08! At 5.6 and a half (it is all important that half inch!) I need to lose about 3.5 stones so it will be a long haul but thanks to this site I feel I will do it this year.
You should feel positive, as you're in exactly the right place to make your dreams a reality.
Are you going to follow the NHS 12 week plan? It's a great place to start and is easy to follow.
If you have any questions about your journey, don't hesitate to ask for advice, as there's a lot of accumulated knowledge and experience on the forum, so someone will be able to help you out
Here's hoping you have a fab week and move towards your goal of 11st
Fabulous post sat always and congrats on your 1.4 loss 😃
Do like your set goals and you are so right, together we can reach our goals whatever they are 😃
Thank you so much for your very kind and encouraging words. I always appreciate your continued support, and I'll be looking out for your posts during the week, to support you as well.
We can reach our goals together, whatever they are, and it should be a really great year ahead.
Well done for staying cool, calm and collected FFUDON. any loss is a good loss
With those walking stats, you should have joined us on our Around the World trip
Only 3lbs to go til your stone and a half marker, maybe by next Monday. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. On second thoughts, that makes typing difficult, so I'd better cross my legs instead
I know what you mean about rings. I've just slimmed down enough to fit into the second wedding ring my hubby bought me because I got too fat for the first one!
Stick to the 12 week plan and you'll reach all your goals
Day 1 and first weigh in! Not a shock as i knew i was overweight. Not going to hide it so going to post it.......... 18stone 8lbs! there i have said it now to do something about it
Day 1 and your first weigh-in - wishing you a very warm welcome, and really pleased you decided to weigh-in with our Monday group.
You've taken the very brave step of sharing your starting weight. Actually, that was my starting weight initially as well - so it struck a chord with me, when I saw your numbers.
I'd recommend you take a look at the NHS 12 week plan - as it does provide a very useful structure and framework with lots of good advice. Using an app like Myfitnesspal can also help alongside that plan.
Whatever your plan to lose weight, I would like to wish you success and we'll look forward to seeing you in future weigh-ins.
Many thanks for your reply and support! I have printed off the 12 week plan and will be following this. Should i stick to the 1400 cals they suggest? or my actual calorie intake that my fitness pal suggests which is slightly more?
Have you put your details into the NHS BMI calculator, and is the 1400 recommendation from that process? Usually it gives a range of calories based on entering your details into the calculator and it also asks things like your height and your activity levels etc, to calculate a recommended calorie range - I would recommend going by that range. As Myfitnesspal recommended slightly more, it should be feasible to lose weight at that amount, but do compare with the NHS BMI calculator, as that should give you a range to work within.
Let me know if you have any further queries about that, I hope my response made sense.
Hello, i took the 1400 from the getting started week 1 info, it states for loosing weight for women no more than 1400. I'll try the BMI CALCULATOR now. Is it best to go by your personal calorie intake?
My advice Kizzie, for what it's worth, is to eat as many calories as you can, while still losing weight, because the lighter you get, the fewer calories you'll be allowed.
When I first started, I had a big allowance, so didn't really need to be too careful with the counting, was just mindful of portion size and avoided the obvious, like cakes and biscuits. It worked for me
I agree with Moreless, stick within the NHS BMI calculator range.
Sometimes people end up not eating sufficient calories and it slows up weight loss - might sound bizarre, but it's often the case. Regarding the fact its a range, you can eat more calories one day and less another within the range, and you should still be fine for losing weight.
Welcome to the weigh-in kizzie and well done for being so brave! I can remember how daunting it was when I first posted my weight and don't worry, cos I was over a stone heavier than you
What a fab attitude! 2016 is going to be a good year for you to see the end of that unwanted weight.
Have you signed up for the NHS 12 week plan? It's a great place to start and is easy to follow.
If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask for help, or advice, someone will always come to your aid.
Yes please, it's great that you're joining us for the Monday group weigh-in - and thank you for sharing your starting weight with us today - I hope it felt ok to do that, as I know it's a big step.
Great that you're aiming to lose weight to prevent any future health problems, and also that you're keen to improve your fitness levels too - I think they two do go hand in hand.
Many of us follow the NHS 12 week plan, so if you've not seen it yet, I would definitely suggest taking a look to see if you might like to follow it - an app alongside is beneficial - e.g. Myfitnesspal to help keep track of food intake and exercise etc.
Hope you have a great week.
Lowcal
Hi Everyone, I also need to pledge to signing in every Monday. I joined several months ago and lost my way. I have not been well, mentally and physically but now seem to be coming out the other end. I feel ready to lose weight and look forward to feeling more healthy and more myself. I am concentrating on a cholesterol lowering diet. Why I don't know but if I concentrate on loosing weight I seem to put on.
I have just had a lovely lunch of home-made winter vegetable soup, wholemeal tortilla and a Skyr yogurt.
I am hoping my hip pain will ease and I can do more walking.
I was made retired from my job last year due to ill health. My Gp surgery have been very supportive and I am feeling more positive
Sorry to hear you've not been well, but glad to hear you're now coming out the other end, and feel ready to lose weight and that you're looking forward to feeling healthier and more like yourself.
Your lunch sounds delicious, and I do hope that your hip pain eases as you do more walking.
It's good to hear your GP surgery has been supportive - and it's great that you're here today joining us for this Monday group weigh-in - so a warm welcome to you! I hope you'll enjoy being part of this group.
You've shared your starting weight, and I hope that felt ok to do so. Hopefully you'll be lighter and feeling pleased with your progress this time next week. Wishing you a great week.
Happy New Year everyone! Well done Low Cal on your loss...you were right when you said that the Christmas weight will be gone soon enough!
I lost 3 & 3/4 pounds this week so I'm pleased about that...hopefully will shift the remainder of the Christmas weight in the next week or two, fingers crossed! I'm trying not to make it a stumbling block, but I can't put it out of my mind for some reason. So for now, aside from the obvious goal of losing as much weight as I can this year given I have stones and stones to go, I am just going to make my way back to my lowest weight in December, then think about goals after that.
As for exercise, I have broken the "pain fear" and started on the old chair pedal exerciser thingy, with some sound advice from Moreless about breaking it down into very small sessions of 100 steps to start out. I got to 100 steps and found that I'd only just started, so I ended up doing sessions of 200 steps. Managed to do 1k yesterday...I'm aware that these things can catch up with you a day or two later, so I will still be quite reserved and stick with that figure, if I am able on a day to day basis, this week, and see how the week rolls out. If all is well then we'll see how much I can do to gradually increase things.
I just want to say thank you again to everyone here for your support and encouragement, and thanks for bringing the wagon back to pick me up after Christmas. It is really making such a huge difference to my outlook. This time last year I'd probably have got into a negative cycle of eating rubbish because of the weight I'd put on at Christmas, which is an utterly crazy thing to do really, but any of you who have ever comfort eaten will no doubt recognise it well! Anyway, I'm back on plan already and there is still Christmas food in the house - hooray, this is progress indeed!
I am so glad I was right about the Christmas excesses soon going - that is what we want them to do for definite, and hopefully they'll play along.
Wow, you've lost 3.75 pounds this week, that is fantastic!!! Congratulations!
I am so pleased that you're enjoying doing your exercise too - and that you're pacing it well following Moreless's sensible advice. Achieving 1 km yesterday is brilliant. But like you say, be careful not to overdo it.
You are sounding positive in your outlook, and that is brilliant - I know the Christmas excess is still hanging on in your mind, but you have already shifted a large part of it, and the remainder will go the same way, providing you keep on track. The weight-loss Monday group wagon will always stop to pick you up, if and when you need us to, and we all need that sometimes along the journey - it's rarely a smooth ride, but hopefully helping one another negotiate those blips and bends in the roads, and occasional detours can all help us learn and move forward afresh, but with new found wisdom. That's the theory, and I believe it works in practice too.
Yes, here's to a very happy and healthy New Year for all of us. During the times when we are less happy and less healthy, here's also to the strength to cope and manage to those times and come through as best we can.
I have been away for 3 weeks staying with my family in Ireland. Weighed myself this morning as 12st 1.4lb which is unbelievable as I was fed very well, also had lots of chocolate and alcohol! haha Back on the plan now anyway and hope to be under 12st by next Monday.
Hope you had a lovely time with your family in Ireland over Christmas. I know that you last weighed in with us on 14th December, and at that time you were 12 stone 2.2 pounds, so that means you've actually lost 1.2 pounds since 14th December - so if I divide that by 2, we can include a loss of 0.6 pounds for this week for our stats. Hope that is ok with you, but I didn't want to miss out on your loss.
I think that's an amazing result - especially over Christmas - you mentioned being fed very well and having lots of chocolate and alcohol.
Glad you're back on the plan now and hopefully you'd be under 12 stone by next Monday.
Oh yes that's right, I got confused because before I left which was midweek, I was 12st 0.4lb and from my perspective i'd gained, so you can coult that as a 0.6lb loss.
Well done on your loss this week, you're doing great, and all the best this week
Happy new year everyone and a huge thank you to the dedicated team of fab fives who always reply to everyone on Monday weigh in , it is a huge blessing for lots of us as helps keep us on track!
I last weighed properly at the gym on December 8th and was 17.7 so yesterday and today weighed at home and am either 17.7 and a half or 17.8 so not too worried after being so hopeless!
I can however feel my jeans are tighter with stodge and lack of swimming so it`s new week and ready to go now!!!
Congratulations to everyone who lost through Xmas etc and good luck to all for our new year yey !!!
Happy New Year, and on behalf of the Fab 5'ers I thank you for your kind words.
Shall we take your lower weight of 17 stone 7.5 as your current weight - you've literally only gained half a pound since December 8th - that is so miniscule! What a great result over Christmas. I must challenge your description of yourself as hopeless - it sounds far from the truth.
For the stats, as you last weighed on December 8th - that is 4 weeks ago, so I will divide the 0.5 pound gain by 4 and that means we can add 0.125 pound gain as your figure for this week's stats. See - it's not as bad as you thought - infact I would say that is basically a maintaining of weight over the festive period, and should be celebrated!
I can tell you're looking forward to getting back to your swimming, so hope you get to go really soon.
hee thank you low cal you made that sound fabulous!!! I am truly surprised I didnt put on lots so as long as it doesn`t try and find me at a later date I feel very happy , thank you again and huge congrats on your loss that is fantastic!
It is inspiring hearing peoples journeys and always is a good reminder that those baby steps of weight loss all add up !
Am starting with NHS week 1 again. Went off the rails over Christmas and New Year. Am 11stone 5 today. Am hoping to lose half to 1 pound a week 8until my goal of 10 stone 4 . I will write everything I eat in my fitness pal as it helps me to be accountable for all I eat. I will do my exercise dvd every evening I'm not going out, or my pony isn't ill (if I set myself to do it every day and can't fit it in or cope with doing it, I just stop) So that's me. Happy New Year and Happy Weight Loss!
It's great to hear you're starting the NHS 12 week plan again, and hope week 1 will be a good one. It's so easy to go off the rails over the festive season, and try to put it behind you and start again today - it's a fresh year and a fresh start, and hopefully you'll be closer to your goal this time next week. Thanks for sharing your weight today, and you've written down some excellent goals for the year - ensuring they are clearly well thought through and achievable. It's definitely worth pre-planning like that, as it should see good results.
Your pony is looking happy in your picture. Very nice!
Happy New Year to you too, and here's to Happy Weight loss and achieiving our goals.
Wishing you a great week ahead.
Lowcal
Surprised to find I have lost 3\4 of a pound. Surprised because my diet has been all over the place. Gonna stick to a general cut down now, as I feel I need all food groups which I may risk missing something if I try lchf diet. And right now I just need my health. Eat less, move more.
I don't think my post posted, not typing it all again in case it did! Basically lost 3/4 pound! Yay!
Both your posts posted, and it's great to hear you've lost 0.75 pound this week - really good!!! Congratulations!!! You said you were surprised because your diet had been all over the place. Glad to hear you're sticking with balanced nutrients and that you're intending to include all the macronutrients (protein, fats, carbs etc).
Make sure you eat sufficient food - because 'eating less and moving more' is good, but it's important to ensure you eat sufficiently for your health - so if in doubt, look at the NHS BMI calculator for the range of recommended calories.
First weigh in this year ........ 10 st 13.25lbs. Starting 12 week plan again after gaining 5lbs during mad 3 months before Christmas (including 2 trips to New Zealand following the loss of a very dear friend). Today is also the day that 3 of us from work commence a 12 week sponsored weight loss to raise money for Great Ormond Street Hospital!! No pressure then ... hehehe !! I have also signed up to walk the world with the group on here so I'm all set to get moving again!! Good luck and clever planning to all on here for this new year challenge 😀😀
Your first weigh in this year - thanks for sharing your starting weight.
I am so sorry to hear you've recently lost a very dear friend, that must have been really difficult to cope with, and I really sympathise. You mentioned a 'mad 3 months' to contend with before Christmas and the trips to New Zealand - lots to deal with, and it's understandable that you gained 5 pounds in those circumstances.
Well done for commencing your 12 week sponsored weight loss to raise money for Great Ormond Street hospital - that does sound like a bit of pressure, but hopefully you'll be able to spur one another on, and it's so great that you're joining us in our Monday group weigh-in, as we'll spur you on too. No pressure here, honest!
Lovely to hear you're also on board for the 'Around the World in 80 Days' Challenge (run by Lizzy) - it's such a great adventure - I'm also very excited about it. Really motivating.
Wishing you a great week ahead, and this time next week, all being well, you'll be lighter and feeling good.
You are definitely counted in - great to have you with us! A warm welcome! Please don't feel ashamed about your starting weight, hopefully it will be the highest now and you'll be getting lighter as the weeks progress, so put it behind you and move forward towards that healthy BMI.
You said you currently don't do any exercise, so do be careful starting off, and ensure that you pace yourself and don't overdo it - your idea to do lunchtime walks sounds great, and hope you enjoy your Davina DVD as well.
Great that you are enjoying using Myfitnesspal - it is a great app. It's brilliant that you've noticed that the process of tracking what you eat is already making you more mindful.
Yes, I'll post a new thread next Monday (11th January) - and I'll post it just before 7am. You can weigh-in at any time of day or night on that date, and there are occasional late weighers who join us on Tuesday morning as well. So just look out for the thread, which will have the same title, and the current date of the thread will be in brackets at the end, so you can double check you're inputting your results into the correct thread. Alternatively, you could click 'follow' and my name (Lowcal) to be automatically informed when I've posted the thread. Completely up to you.
Hi and welcome to the weigh-in mummy, so pleased you decided to join us
Don't be ashamed of your weight, it's all relative, I'd virtually kill to be as light as that
It's surprising how tiny amounts of exercise can build up into a really effective exercise programme. When I first started, I would get out of breath just getting up in the morning and I've now bought a bike and intend doing a minimum of 100K's/week Your DVD and walks will be perfect
There will be a new thread next week and every subsequent week, for updates
What a busy day today! I wonder if there is still space for me to add my stats and comments!!
I did lurk a little bit at the forum while I was away, especially when I was feeling low wiht regards to my weight loss journey, but I had no time to write!!
Lowcal well done on your 1.4lbs overall loss over the period this is a fantastic news and I too hope you will get to the elusive 12st this year :).
As for me this morning I was weighing 77kg exactly. Last time I entered my weight in the forum I was 77.4kg so a loss of 0.88 lb overall. Although on the first Monday I peaked at 77.7 then back to 77.1 last Monday and 77 this Monday. So I basically managed to lose what I had gained over the holidays and lose a little bit more. I am very pleased with that I did not want to gain more than 2 pounds over the period and in the end it looks like I did not gain at all and even lost.
However I did go through a lot of ups and downs during these two weeks. First of all during the week after which I gained weight I was really disappointed with myself at how easy and quick it had been for me to go out of my routine and put on weight again. Since I started my weight loss journey I had never gained on any Monday so I started to say to myself does that mean that as soon as I am not home I won't follow my principles and I will just put the weight back on? It made me doubt my ability to maintain once I reach my goal weight (which for now is a stone away exactly). It also got me anxious as to how quickly the weight could go back if I lost control. What disappointed me even more was that I did not even binge on food or ate too many sugary things. It's just that where I was carbohydrates such as bread are staple food and I ate much more of that than I usually do. But most days I was sticking to my 1400 calories. So why the gain? That's when I lurked back a little bit at the forum to get some more inspiration and there it was!! I read somewhere about comparing ourselves with where we were last year for example in terms of our journey and I thought that was a brilliant idea. I said to myself yes I have gained this week but I have lost so much (well 12 kg in 15 weeks).
On the up side, my other half whom I had not seen since I started the journey and to whom I had not said I was "dieting" was totally shocked when he picked me up at the airport. That look in his eyes meant the world to me. His first words were "but I also liked as you were!" to reassure me but then he also said " I am very happy for you and so proud that you set a goal and reached it so quickly". We have been through 2 miscarriages in a year and a half for those of you who knew me from September, and he knows I am also doing that to improve our chances but really for my own sake anyway.
Apparently I have changed a lot. I say apparently cos it is only NOW that I am realising. In the eyes of others who do not see me regularly. And this weekend was the best party ever for me (lol) where everyone was stopping me saying what had I done and how tiny I looked and how I got back 10 years etc, etc. It made me feel really proud but really shy too. It was just too much attention but I guess it is a positive but it was just overwhelming. and on Sunday I received several text messages asking me for the link to the NHS weight loss plan!! I would never have thought people would refer to me for health advice now!!
That has encouraged me even further. On Sunday I went out at 7.30am with my bike (lol!!). I also did some gym exercise. Today I intend to go back to running 30 min three times a week. I want to carry on losing until I reach a healthy BMI and then what I would like is to lose a little bit more in order to have some leeway in case I gain some weight again. My biggest hope is not to put it back all again once I stop wanting to lose weight because that would be such a disappointment. For me but also now for the people who seem to be looking up to me as if I have achieved the unachievable. I really wonder exactly how those of you who maintain do it. Also I have not lost 2 stones yet and the changes on myself are really dramatic. So it got me thinking Moreless are you getting a lot of those comments now that you have achieved a whooping 3 stones loss (congrats Moreless I am soooo happy for you!!). I wanted to diet in secret and not inform anyone as I dress very large anyway but that proved an epic fail as the whole world has noticed!! Even the librarian asked me if I was ok?! lol. So now I feel a tremendous pressure to not get it back but will I have to live like that, always in fear of putting the weight back on? ( re-reading my last sentence it makes me laugh how I am anxious about maintaining, as if it was obvious that I am going to reach a healthy BMI soon! I think that is what this forum does! Gives you confidence that you WILL reach your goals! wow!)
Thanks again everyone for your help. In 2016 apart from the weight loss I have mentioned earlier I intend to start driving lessons and ACTUALLY pass my driving license. Now that I got my theory during my first 12 weeks of weight loss programme I feel invincible lol.
For all the newbies: you are in the right place. Hang on and believe you can do it, rely on us for support, and off you go! Seriously!!!
Oh my Nussaybah, I've so missed your blogs! Welcome back!
What a truly inspiring read, especially for all the newcomers we have now.
I love the fact that you've written down all your thoughts, hopes, fears, dreams, doubts and managed to make them all fit together into pure poetry
I'm so pleased that you took a step back and turned to the forum at a time of need and found the inspiration you required to set you back on the right track again.
You are a beautiful person, inside and out and of course people are going to notice, comment and aspire to be like you. Enjoy every minute of it, cos it's the reward for all your hard work and effort
It's different for me, because a) I was so grossly overweight, it's really only just showing a little now, but I'm still a very obese person and b) I don't put myself "out there". I only go to places where I'm pretty sure that nobody who knows me will see me
I too am in awe of the maintainers and hope that over the course of time, I shall learn how it's done, so that when my turn comes, I shall manage it too. However, I'm sure a large part of their success, is due to sticking around with us and staying accountable
You go for those driving lessons too, it's all part and parcel of the new you
All the very best to you Nussaybah, have a fabulous week
Awww Moreless your words are soooo sweet you are really a fabulous motivational person and reading your journey knowing we started at the same time really spurs me on too.
I am sorry I might have asked a very personal question without realising. I'm with you on the "going where no one knows me", I do that when I am on a bike too lol as it is very important to me to NOT be seen on it! LOL. It just *really* does not go with what I do on my day job lol. Just thinking of it makes me laugh a lot. But to go back to you it actually does not matter what people notice or not I guess I was being too curious for my own good I just wanted to celebrate the fact that you had lost 3 stones already, in such a short amount of time. When you get out of the obese zone and then the overweight one we will be here cheering you on so do not worry :). It is so fantastic that you have achieved that , I am so pleased for you.
Thanks for the nice words they really have made my day, thanks again and wtg us!!
Thank you so much Prin for your message. Actually this weekend what I was wearing wasn't so large. Which probably explains people's shock as with my usual clothing I do look larger, and on top of that I have lost weight so yeah I can see that it would make people think I lost a lot more than I actually have lol.
Thanks also for the encouragement I have ben reading your journey with a lot of interest and I think it is amazing how you've mantained to gracefully. A real inspiration. I really hope I will too when I get there.
We are very pleased you decided to join us all the way from Canada for this Monday group weigh-in. It's about 14.35 UK time just now, and as you've said 'Good morning' I'm assuming you're about 5 or so hours behind us? Anyway, I'd like to welcome you, and thank you for sharing your starting weight. I hope that felt ok to do so, as I know it can be a daunting step.
Brilliant that you've listed some goals for this week - they all sound great.
Many of us use the NHS 12 week plan as a structure - not sure if you've seen it, but you can access it via the icon in the top middle part of the screen, entitled 'Weight Loss NHS' - you'd need to click through that site till you find the 12 week downloadable programme. It's really good and worth a look.
Do you use an app to help yourself track? Many of us use something like Myfitnesspal as it is easy to use.
You might have something else - I know people have various apps that they find helpful.
I hope you have a great week, and we'll look forward to catching up with you next week.
Lowcal
Hi there, 19 stone exactly this morning, not brill but not the 19.2 I was at the end of October, here's to even more (less?!) in 2016!
Just wondered if anyone is finding the thread to be quite 'slow and clunky' now that it's got a lot of traffic - I know that Moreless is finding it quite tough to respond to posts at the moment - as her connection seems to be compromised, and I'm wondering if others are finding the same.
If you are, could you please let me know this by pressing 'like' in response to this message - i.e. literally just this one (using the box beside the 'reply' button below), so I can ascertain how many people are experiencing difficulties.
I have written a message to one of the Health Unlocked Admin staff to see if they can help, but it would be good to know how many of you are experiencing the problem.
To anyone waiting for a reply - please bear with us - we appreciate your patience - and you will receive a response - rest assured!
I thought that I had put my weight down for last Monday so could put in my weight loss for this week, but can't find a record of it! So this is now going to be my start although it's week 2 of the 12 week planner for me. Numbers are:
70 years old 5ft 1.5in
Weight 11st 6.4lbs. With a BMI of 30.2 (obese)
Measurements 41-41-41 I'm not straight down honest, just stick out at different points!
My health has suffered from being overweight over many years and after having chest pains (now under a cardiologist) a heart attack will be next if things don't change. I don't have a goal but must lose at least two stone and eat healthier for the rest of my life. Don't want sympathy as I did this to myself, but your support is really appreciated. We can all change our lives for the better.
Yes, you did put your weight down for last Monday in that thread, it was 11 stone 8 pounds, so your weight today (11 stone 6.4 pounds) means you've lost 1.6 pounds in your first week - Congratulations!!! That's an excellent result.
Thanks for sharing your stats, and also your measurements - I think it can really help to compare body measurements (I do mine on a monthly basis) as it does show differences. I agree it can be hard to measure them accurately though - our bodies do tend to stick out at different points.
Glad to hear that you are under the care of a Cardiologist, and hope you find their care to be good. You have some great long-term goals, and losing at least 2 stone and eating healthier should mean you can sustain these lifestyle changes for the rest of your life.
You are so right, we can all change our lives for the better, and I would like to wish you a great second week.
Ruth will add your 1.6 pound loss to this week's stats. Glad I was able to find your starting weight from last week. I'm sure Ruth would have had a record of it too, so it's all good!
Thank you Lowcal, I couldn't find it, well done. Would have replied sooner but just walked slowly to shops for more veggies - soup tonight! Am really pleased, 1.6 lbs is great especially as I can't exercise yet apart from slow walking and yoga (which I haven't done since before Christmas). You've made my day!
Glad to hear people manage to keep off the worthy during the Xmas period! I got back from my holidays at the weekend and weighed in this morning, gained 2lbs so sitting at 13:9 but over 3 weeks that's not too bad and I wasn't watching what I ate, anyway starting again into the routine of the diet and healthy eating tomoz
Welcome back from your Christmas holidays, and well done for only putting on 2 pounds over the last three weeks - we'll divide that by the 3 weeks you've been away, so that makes 0.67 pound gained for this week's stats. Hope that's ok with you.
I think that's a great result, especially considering all the temptations that abound over the festive season, and also the fact you weren't watching what you ate.
Great that you're back into the routine of your healthy eating plan, and you're planning on healthy eating tomorrow.
A very warm welcome to you, and thanks for joining us for this Monday group weigh-in. You've shared your starting weight, and I hope that felt ok to do so. Great that you're downloaded the NHS 12 week plan.
I'm wondering what aspect of the fitness plan you're struggling with - a few more details might help us to think about a solution to help you.
I'm just about to cook my dinner, but I'll be back later, so please do let us know what aspects you're struggling with, and we might be able to help.
I put on 2lbs last week. So have gone back up to 12st 7.
My goals for the next month are:
1. to exercise at least three times a week;
2. record my weekly weight on this forum as I find it motivational; and
2. to get down to 12st which for me is a challenge as I'll need to lose more than 1lb per week.
Over the coming year my goal is to become more active, try to drop a dress size and break the 10st barrier aiming to achieve a healthy weight. My focus is going to be on a month by month basis as otherwise I find it too overwhelming.
Good luck Tinkle 72. A 2 pound gain is quite modest - which means you must have paid attention over the xmas period. So today is re- group day. I am just about the same weight as you and looking for the same goals...
I also plan to include some non- edible treats along the way--lovely dog walks when the sun shines, spa treatment and just 'me 'time. I have overall goals but small goals week to week. My first being the 3 pound gain over xmas
Hi, I hope I am posting this in the right place. I have just joined and my starting weight is 13 stone 2 and it's the heaviest i've been. I'd like to shift a couple of stone and have started many diets but not carried on with them. This seems so friendly and there are so many helpful tips so I'm hoping to do better this time. Good luck to everyone on here.
Hi debra 65 - welcome. This is a great thread - and many people return week to week to keep them on track or to maintain. There are also many people like yourself are just joining. Lots of good advice and healthy tips for weightloss. The NHS 12 week healthy eating plan is great place to start. My fitness pal is site many of us use to record our progress.
Make small goals and milestones or it can all be a bit overwhelming
Thank you lowcal for those kind words. With regards to my fitness pal, I was trying to put in 2 slices of bread but not sure how to in the diary. I was asked about portion so couldn't understand.
thanks Gletap- I am duty tonight -usually you will be offered a portion. So for example usually for bread -1 slice - and then it will be 2 portions - . The portion control is the left hand box. Make sure you pick right bread -white, wholemeal seeded etc - there is quite a range in calorie difference
Welcome Chloegibson. - you can weigh in whatever way you prefer. the important measurement is the downward trend
Good luck for next week
As some of you may have read, last week I weighed 16.1 - not quite at my heaviest but I was gonna stop it before it got any higher - so from Friday (New years day) I started to cut out snacks, and watch what I was eating - as today is official weigh day, I weighed this morning (forgot to post this morning) and I'm pleased to say my scales said 12.12!!!!! So I'm taking that as my start weight! Onwards and downwards lol Well done to everyone on their first weigh of 2016!!!! The year of skinny minis lol xxx
Hi wannabeslim - whatever silver lining we have we must take them
Best of luck for next week
• in reply to
I think there's a mistake here? I'm trying to calculate the loss from 16.1 to 12.12 and my brain is exploding. Is it meant to be 16.1 to 15.12? Or 13.1 to 12.12? I think it must be one or the other, so will put 3lb loss (not 45lb!!)
Her profile says starting weight 16st1, and she surely hasn't made the same mistake twice, so I'm going with the first one. Either way I'm sure we're talking 3lb loss and not 45lb
• in reply to
Hiya, sorry, yes, my weight was 16.1, then I weighed to 15.12 lol It was my mistake lol Sorry lol xx
Thanks for clarifying that Wannabeslim16, it was a good loss, and means you're in the 15's. Congratulations! I know this was on 4th January, so hopefully you're still doing well now (23rd January). The next weigh-in thread is Monday 25th January, so hope to see you there!
Hi there, I would love to join in this,if that is ok. Motivates me to stay on track. I am new to the site. Started my initial weight loss January 2015 weighing in at 13st. If I'm totally honest I've always been a yo-yo dieter and the ironic thing is I am a receptionist in a gym. As you can imagine the last place I want to go is a gym on my days off. I got down to 11st 1lb in September for a girlie holiday I had booked. After the holiday everything went to pot and the weight has gradually started to creep on. As from today with a couple of days dieting I am 11st 13lb which is obese for my 5ft 3in height I have a 4 night hen do coming up in 16 weeks with some slim women, would love to get to at least 10st 5lb. My main concern is I do not want my children to follow my path of crazy eating habits my daughter at 4yrs is already a very fussy eater and I would like that all to change. My husband and 10yr old son are very encouraging and have great will power so I'm hoping to crack the lifestyle change. There really are some truly inspirational people on this site,so glad I have found it.
Hello KM 80 and welcome. Great that you have joined us and you will get lots of support. You have clearly demonstrated you can lose weight, the trick is to maintain this as a sustainable loss. My starting point would be to recognise what you have achieved - so you were 13st and you are now just below 12st - that is great news as you are a stone lighter than this time last year.
Look at the 12 week NHS healthy eating plan and think about an approach which is a healthy new you- with weight loss thrown in. 16 weeks at a pound a week is over a stone loss- and well and truely among towards where you want to be
I am new to the forum but not new to yo-yo dieting.
I weigh in kilos - and i am horrified but slightly liberated to say I weigh in today at a massive 129 kilos. I weighed 103kg after the birth of my little girl a number of years ago, so this is not baby weight.
I love food, but I do suffer with portion distortion, and I think I had a case of body dysmorphia the wrong way around. It was like I just was not accepting how big i was becoming, and I was glossing over the fact that i am a size 22/24 in dress size. Not that it is a bad thing to be accepting of yourself but I needed to acknowledge the health risks. Fortunately up to now I am in relatively good health apart from the morbid obesity and i hope it will stay that way! There was a lightbulb moment when a couple of weeks back, i was not allowed on a carousel with my small daughter. It was so embarrassing. I have literally sulked and spent a while beating myself up about it before making the necessary leap into healthdom.
My goal for the next 12 weeks is to lose at least 7-8 kg. This week i am focussing on trying to walk more in my job - it is very sedentary - as well as getting portions right. I threw 2 boxes of chocolates into the wheelie bin last night to get rid of them out of the house where I cannot eat them, telling myself it is ok to 'have a treat'.
Hey trickoflight - and welcome. There is no place like starting like you mean to go on. It takes a smart person to 'fess up and acknowledge where you are and how you got there. It does not matter what the trigger was - i suspect you were just waiting for one to nudge you in the right direction.
I recommend the NHS 12 week healthy eating plan - this gives you access to thinking about food in manageable portions and breaking into the weightless journey in an kind way. I would suggest you start there and kind of practice how you want to eat. The very clear thing to remember is that Rome was not built in day and clearly our added weight was accumulated over a period of time. Thus to reverse that trend takes time-take it in small manageable goals. You will find this easier to think about than -'I must be this weight by this month".
If you follow this thread week to week (always a Monday) you will see all the trials and tribulations from all of us. Look at Gonti, nussaybah and moreless- who have made great progress- a little every week - I am astounded and inspired by their progress.
Good luck and look forward to seeing you next week
Well I used to feel like that seal- but not any more as I know I am doing something about it! I was 11.11 two weeks ago and now am 11.9.8 so despite Christmas and an holiday in Sicily for five days I have lost- if only a pound! Hurrah!
I suppose the main thing is I didn't go mad and when abroad ate lots of salad with things like grilled prawns. But I did drink wine and all in all I think I would have been lucky to maintain. I was walking, however, a lot, for the first time (I broke my ankle in August) and I think this may have speeded up my metabolism. Who knows?
But onwards and downwards as you say, everyone: new year, new determination and well done everyone for getting through Christmas. Nothing can be that difficult, for twelve clear months, surely! My resolution is just not to give up.Even if I have bad weeks and put weight on.The trend must be inexorably-long term- downwards.
TC - what a lovely cheery post - and I am madly jealous at your loss - super well done. Clearly, Sicily is well suited to dieters - I am booking my ticket now:-).
So a great start to 2016 - good luck for next week
Thank you to everyone who got me here... after only 3 days and 4lbs lost- and into the 16's already- yippee!
I'm 5'5" and now at my heaviest weight 13st 10lb. I am aiming to lose 42lb which will get me to 10st 10lb and a healthy BMI. Signed up for the NHS 12 week healthy eating plan. My main meals are generally ok but I do need to stop unhealthy snacking especially on an evening and I plan to gradually increase my daily exercise. I will also be keeping a food diary aiming for 1400 cals and low fat. Lots of small steady changes I hope I can stick to!
A very warm welcome to you, and thanks for joining us for this Monday group weigh-in. You've shared your starting weight, and hope that was ok to do so - and you've got some great goals. Hope you enjoy the NHS 12 week healthy eating plan, and good luck with addressing your snacking in the evenings.
Remember that fats are not bad for us, and should be eaten as part of a healthy balanced diet. Some fats that I particularly enjoy are things like olive oil, fish oils, fats in nuts and seeds, some butter on a jacket potato, some cheese sprinkled on a soup or salad - these are just some examples, but fats should be enjoyed as part of a healthy balanced diet.
In particular, watch out for processed foods claiming to be 'low fat' as they often contain quite a lot of sugar, which is put into the product to replace the fat, and the resulting food isn't particularly healthy as a result. Have a good read of the 12 week plan, and it should help to choose healthy meals.
Have you checked the calorie intake on the NHS calculator, as it does depend on your height, weight, and activity levels, and it would give you a recommended calorie range. You need to ensure you don't eat too few calories - hence the recommended range to work within for your own specific needs.
Great that you're feeling motivated, that is a good frame of mind to start out with, and wishing you a great week ahead.
Hi Lowcal, thank you for your reply, lots of great information and tips for me to try in particular the "fats". I think it's my portion size of fats I need to change. We do use olive oil and have 1 oily fish each week. My husband says I have potato with my butter rather than the other way around so I will cut back on that and I have bought individually wrapped cheeses so I don't sneak an extra bit! I'm going to try and have an extra portion of fish each week and swap to nuts/seeds instead of crisps.
For my calorie intake, when I checked my BMI it says recommended calorie intake for me is 1595-2052. Is that to maintain or lose?
It's about 11.15pm and I'm going to sleep now - just to reassure you that if anyone weighs in later tonight or even tomorrow morning, that I will be popping by to check, and will respond to any late-night, or early morning weighers.
Another very inspiring thread, and hope you've enjoyed being part of it as much as I have.
Hi all! This is my first weigh in your Monday group and actually my first post on this forum (joined in last October but staying so far on the ''observer's bench''). But now I cannot resist any longer to join such a lovely bunch of people
So, today morning I was 12st 9lb, and the only positive comparison I can make (as I'm still 2 pounds heavier as from before Christmas ) is that the same time last year I weighed 13st 4lb! So Im still happy as all my efforts since last August, to change my eating habits with help of NHS 12 week plan, has not been in vain!
I hope then to stay with you for the whole year now and continue this journey - to look after myself by eating healthier and moving about more, aiming to loose one pound a week (that would mean a wonderful 52 pounds loss by next New Year and... reaching my healthy BMI!).
Wishing everybody a Very Happy and Joyful 2016! We can do it!
Hi and welcome krista, I'm so glad you finally plucked up the courage to join us
I also did a lot of lurking in the background before venturing out. I think with something as personal as your weight and related issues, it's important that you feel you can trust those around you not to judge, or ridicule you. It didn't take me long to realise that it wouldn't be possible to find a nicer group of people and I couldn't resist getting involved either. That was 17 weeks ago and I haven't looked back since
Well done for starting your healthy lifestyle and for the pounds you've lost over the year. With the support you'll get from this forum, the next 52lbs will be a doddle
I'm new to this ( weight loss and the site). I'm ever so slightly apprehensive as have a long long road ahead of me. I would really appreciate any support so glad I stumbled across this.
My new years resolution for this year is to change my attitude towards food and exercise. I don't want to be so absent minded about the food I eat and so terrified of exercise (sounds ridiculous I know!!). Any useful websites of healthy recipes would be really helpful!
I weighed myself for the first time ever today and I'm currently 13st 6lbs. I'd like to be 11st...yikes!!
Hi KRML and welcome- that first step on the scales is so hard, well done
Set your self some mini goals, how about under 13, that's only 6lbs away? ( I started a whole stone heavierthan you)
Have you seen the NHS 12 week plan there are some good recipes on there and often our members will post some nice recipes too, l think it was Trafford that posted a recipe with bulgar wheat so I am going to give that a go
The ap my fitness pal when used will make you think about what you are eating for sure Especially if you are a grazer like me. It will help you think about what you really want once you look at the calories and see what you can swap it for or miss it and go for something else
Don't be scared of exercise you could try incorporating it in to your daily life I power walk to work, if you have to make a journey try parking further away or getting off the bus early
I hate the gym but love classes there are some cheap gyms now that have a range of classes for a monthly fee. If you like to dance Zumba is great and you can always just improvise I do it all the time
What ever you decide on make it something you enjoy!
Now it wouldn't be a festive season without a feast would it? That is only a little gain that could be attributed to a bowel movement 😉 We done on upping the walking to ward off too much of a gain- keep it up and have a great week
Right, here you are jossie, all safe and sound again
A 2lb loss is fantastic and it won't be long until you're in the 11's. Wtg you!
Walking is a great form of exercise, it helps with weight loss, keeps the joints moving and clears the mind
You're right, we can do it
Onwards and Downwards!
Puffing in a day late here! Good morning everyone.
For me it’s week 15.
Not sure when I last weighed in as Christmas has had the usual devastating impact on routine / record keeping etc!
Today’s weight is 11st 8lb (I think that means I’m 2lb up on whenever I last checked in).
Overall given the lack of activity (although stepladder aerobics continues!) and general Christmas catering that have been going on – I’m not displeased with a 2lb gain and am now back on the wagon!
It was all quite sustainable I missed a few breakfasts and ate a few puds and the odd slice of cake. My ravenous teens ensured that most leftovers are now history!
Happy New Year everyone and may all your weight loss targets be achieved as enjoyably as possible this year!
Christmas does disrupt routine doesn't it. I felt really disorientated regarding days, but I'm ok again now, thank goodness.
You've only gained 2 pounds over the festive period, and that's not bad at all! It will soon go now you're back to your usual routine - and you're back on the wagon. Maybe Ruth will know when you last weighed in - the last time I made a note of your weigh-in was on 7th December, and you were at week 11 at that time, and weighed 11 stone 9 pounds, so compared with then you are actually down by a pound! But I suspect you might have weighed in inbetween - and Ruth may know.
I'll leave it to Ruth to decide on your stats, as I don't have the full information, but essentially you're doing great!
Thanks Lowcal so nice of you to reply! Can’t believe how big this thread is – so it’s lovely you and the fab-fivers take the time to deal with so many of us! Thanks to you all.
Pretty pleased with the 2lb gain – I managed to rein it in a few times between hosting and being a guest and so got through without feeling deprived! Phew. Rest of the year should be a lot easier – all that chocolate is a bit of a nightmare for me - as I’ve got a biggish household there seems to be endless temptation about and the kids have the right metabolism to deal with it but I don’t!
Hello, I'm new to the site. I've made a number of attempts to loose weight in the past but have never quite managed to achieve what I wanted. I feel more motivated this year so am determined to loose 3 stone. My starting weight is 14 stone 10 lbs.
Welcome!!! You are very welcome, and glad you have joined us.
You've shared your starting weight, and hope you felt ok doing that. Hopefully in a week's time you'll be celebrating a loss on the scales. I'd recommend looking at the NHS 12 week plan as it is really good, and many of us follow it.
Look forward to catching up with you next week - and in the meantime, enjoy your week.
I've stumbled across this forum while looking for healthy snack ideas and it looks great, everyone seems so supportive!
I have a significant amount of weight to lose - approximately 10 stone. There's not been a recent trigger or anything, I know that I need to do it, I'm just lazy! I go through periods of extreme calorie counting and exercising, where I will lose around a stone a month, but give up after 3 or 4 months because I burn out. I realise now that this needs to be a marathon, and not a sprint, but I don't really know what to do without throwing myself in like I have in the past. Does anyone have any tips?
As a rule, my main meals are relatively healthy. I'm pescetarian and try to stick to fish and veg, or meat alternative and veg for most meals. I use low fat cooking sprays, and make all sauces from scratch with little salt. We have recently started a subscription with HelloFresh, which allows us to try 3 new healthy meals a week. I snack too much, but I always seem to be able to justify it to myself at the time. I have around 2 coffees a day and drink too much wine.
The obvious things to do are stop snacking, don't eat so much cheese and stop drinking so much wine, but does anyone have any other tips?
Happy New Year to you, and thanks for popping into our Monday group weigh-in thread. If you'd like to be a regular in this thread, and would like to weigh-in with us, then the next one will be Monday 11th January, and you'd be very welcome.
You have posed a question asking for tips on helping you to lose weight - if you were to post it as a 'post' in your own right - and use the 'question' option, then you'd be likely to get lots of answers that way. I am not sure many people will necessarily see your question today, as it's Tuesday, and the Monday group won't necessarily read this, as many of them were reading the thread yesterday. Hope that makes sense.
I would recommend that you take a look at the NHS 12 week plan - which you can access by clicking on the icon in the top middle of this screen, entitled Weight Loss NHS - there are 12 weeks of downloadable pages there, and they might help quite a lot with both structure and excellent advice.
I do think that being part of a weigh-in group is a good motivator, and so I would also recommend you join us each Monday - if it's something you'd like to be part of. We could help to encourage and support you, and you could do the same to other members within the forum.
Anyway, I hope my response is helpful in some way, and hope to see you around and about in the forum, if you care to stay, and maybe in future Monday group weigh-ins. You'd be very welcome.
All the best on your weight loss journey and hope you have a great week.
Lowcal
Hi all. Keen to get involved in the group to work together. Some inspiring posts. Do I wait till next week before weighing in? How do I know of any new posts?
Great that you are keen to get involved with our Monday group weigh-in thread, and glad you have found some inspiring posts here. I think Ruth will be going through her weekly stats later in the week, so if you want to, you could mention your starting weight today (I know it's a day late, but I think you'd be just intime if you wanted to), and then you'd be able to have your result counted in next week's weigh-in.
I always post the Monday group weigh-in thread just before 7am on Mondays, so it should be easy to spot - but the alternative would be to 'follow' me (my name is 'Lowcal') and then you'd be automatically notified whenever I post the thread. But I aim for consistency and always post it before 7am on Mondays.
So - completely up to you - either let us know your weight today (or when you read my response) - or wait till Monday 11th January, and post your starting weight then - whichever you prefer.
Always check that you're posting in the correctly dated thread - as the title is always consistent - i.e. "Please Join Us for a Monday Group Weigh-in (current date in brackets). The next one, therefore is 11th January.
I knew I had put on weight but at my recent doctors visit I was shocked to discover I weighed a disgraceful 19st 6 lbs. I have joined this group in an effort to get down to a healthy weight.
I've never dieted before this is the first time I have always been overweight but never by this staggering amount.
My incentive is to wear a nice dress to my daughters wedding July 2017
Thanks for joining our Monday weigh-in group thread. It sounds like you had a bit of a shock following your recent doctor's visit, and that your weight took you a bit unawares. It shows how easy weight can be gained and we may not necessarily realise by how much. Hopefully today will be the heaviest you'll be, and you'll be well on your way to your healthy weight goal as the year progresses.
It's great that you've got such a nice occasion to work towards, and you've got plenty of time to make progress in time for your daughter's Wedding. Just think how proud you'll be when you're wearing something lovely and enjoying that special day.
I'd recommend you have a look at the NHS 12 week plan. You can access it via the icon entitled 'Weight Loss NHS' (top middle part of this screen) and then click through till you reach the 12 week downloadable pages. It really is an excellent structured plan, and if you find the NHS BMI calculator and fill in your details (height, weight, activity levels) it will give you your BMI and also a recommended range of calories. I'd also recommend an app (maybe Myfitnesspal or something similar) to help you to track your food and drink intake, exercise etc.
This Monday weigh-in post is posted just before 7am every Monday, and you can weigh-in at any point that day, and one or more of our Fab 5'ers (myself, Prin, Suzybenj, Ruth_Canal_Runner and Moreless) will respond to all who post there.
I really hope you'll join us, if you fancy being part of our group - as it does help to be accountable and we aim to support people, and gain support ourselves - in a peer support kind of way.
Hope to see you here on Monday, if you fancy joining us.
Wishing you a successful weight-loss journey and a great week ahead.
Lowcal
Hi Lowcal and all, And Happy New year.
It's been a while since I posted, In part because I' have been away on a few of the Mondays, but also if totally honest because i knew I had put some weight back on over Christmas...... Chicken I know.....
Anyhow, I am now back on the diet, to try and get back on track with the weight loss, and it's great that you have shared your goals for the future year.
As for mine then:
1) I also want to weigh in on as many Mondays as is possible because this really does help keep me on track too.
2) In terms of weight loss then I want to drop another 4 stones this year / or get my body fat down to 20% (which ever comes first).
3) In general take a more healthy lifestyle -which I feel I have already begun, but I want to ensure this is really embedded in my (and the family) way of life.
Wishing everyone a happy and healthy 2016, and good luck with achieving your goals - i'm sure they are all much more achievable with the support of this group!
Just noticed you've posted on the thread - I am just going to bed now, but I'll look forward to reading what you've written tomorrow, and I'll respond then. Glad you're back with us.
You are definitely not alone in terms of having put on some weight over Christmas, infact the weigh-inat the end of December was the first time the group gained weight as a whole - so it was the trend really! You're back on track now, and good to hear you're back to losing weight again. You'll soon have those Christmas excesses off in no time!
Thanks for sharing your goals for 2016 - they all sound great.
Wishing you a very happy and healthy 2016, and a great week ahead. Look forward to catching up with you in the Monday group weigh-ins.
I must I avoided weighing in mon, , too many bloating days again! Seems I have list 1/2 lb, bringing my weight to 10st 6lb, bit too heavy for my liking!
Tuesday revealed a less bloated me, thankfully.
Well done to local who seems to do so welll, and to every else
So sorry to hear you've been experiencing those bloating days - that isn't great for you. I do sympathise. I felt bloated one day last week, but couldn't work out why...!
Congratulations to you for losing half a pound this week. I know you're still feeling a bit too heavy, but you did well to lose half a pound, and I am glad that Tuesday revealed a less bloated you!
Thanks for your kind words.
Wishing you a less bloated week ahead, and hope you enjoy your week.
Some people are finding difficulties posting due to the large size of the thread, and we have asked the IT people to look into it, so maybe they might be able to help with this. Awaiting their response to see if they can help.
Yes, definitely stay focused and wishing you a much less bloated week ahead.
I am copying and pasting the stats for Nocturnal Bear because she has been trying to post her stats - but wasn't able to due to having difficulty accessing this thread. I seem to be ok in accessing it luckily, so here are Nocturnal Bear's stats:
Nocturnal Bear's stats:
My stats this week are
Starting weight = 123.2kg
Week 1 = 117.8kg
Week 2 = 116.0kg
Week 3 = 114.6kg
Week 4 = 113.1kg
Week 5 = 112.4kg
Week 6 = 110.7kg
Week 7 = 109.4kg
Week 8 = 107.9kg
Week 9 = 109.9kg
Week 10 = 108.9kg
Which means it's a 1Kg loss for me this week
NB - Congratulations on a 1 kg loss - hopefully Ruth will be able to include your stats in this week's total.
Hope you're having a great week and your plan to post earlier in the day next week should hopefully help you access it.
The IT people on Health Unlocked are looking at this issue - to see if they can help to keep our thread healthy, despite its ever growing size.
The thread is growing in size, but thankfully we won't be as the year goes on and here's to great weight loss results for all of us.
Lowcal
Hi
Please can I join your weekly weigh in? I' m not sure whether my earlier post will have got to you. I joined 5th Jan 2016 weighing 11st 12lbs. Still finding my way around posts, messages, notifications.....Hope this works. Thanks
Yes, please do! You would be very welcome. I don't think Ruth's done our stats yet for this week, so when she reads your post, she will be able to include you as a person starting - and then just join us for the next weigh-in thread (dated Monday 11th January) and you can weigh-in then.
We'll look forward to having you on board. I notice you've already clicked 'follow' and my name, so that means you'll be automatically notified when I post the Monday morning thread - please weigh-in at any time you like that day - as there's someone around all day and in the evening too.
A very warm welcome to you, and it's great that you've joined us. Good luck with losing 1 pound by next Monday, and enjoy the gym and getting back into your running.
Hi all. I'm a newbie and my first weigh in for 2016 is 82.7kg and BMI 32.3 which is down from June 2015 slightly over 90kg and BMI over 35. Losing only 1 kg per month is really depressing...
Welcome to you! Thanks for sharing your starting weight, and you mentioned that you're feeling that losing 1 kg per month feels 'really depressing' - that means you're averaging 0.25 kg (just over half a pound) per week, and if you continued to lose at that rate then you'd weigh 13 kg 28.6 pounds) less by this time next year. Actually, Maths isn't my strong point, so if I've made mistakes there, please forgive me! But I think you're making good progress, and losing weight in the right direction. But I guess it's what you feel that matters here, and so I hope you can improve on your weight loss figures to enable you to feel more motivated. Perhaps being part of our Monday group weigh-in might help.
Are you using the NHS 12 week plan? I'd recommend taking a look if you've not already seen it. Also, I'm not sure if you're taking part in the 'Around the World in 80 Days' challenge or not. I am finding that to be a really motivating challenge and it's encouraging me to do more exercise.
Anyway, I hope we see you at future Monday group weigh-ins, and I wish you continued success with your weight loss goals. I do think you're doing well, and I hope that you'll feel better about your losses as time progresses.
Lowcal
Hello everyone. I am regarded as overweight with a BMI of 28.5. I weighed 13 stone at the beginning of the week and I've now lost 1/2 lbs (My scales is not that accurate!) My aim is to keep going at this rate per week, which would put me at 11 stone by about April.
In the past I've never followed a rigid diet and it worked for me, but it is no longer working. I have now started using the NHS calorie counting tracker with a food diary.
Welcome! You've added your details to the end of last Monday's thread, and a new thread will be available tomorrow (Monday 11th January 2016) which I will be posting just before 7am.
I would recommend that you could re-write your post in tomorrow's thread, so that you'd be included in the most current stats - you could just copy and paste what you've written here to make that an easy process.
That way everyone who joins the thread tomorrow will be able to see your post and you'll be able to read the most current progress of everyone else within the group.
I'm glad to hear you're trying the NHS 12 week plan, and that you're keeping a food diary - these will both stand you in good stead.
Tomorrow's thread will have the same title, i.e. 'Please Join Us for a Monday Group weigh-in (11th January 2016)' (current date is always in brackets) - and it will be posted just before 7am. You can put your details in that thread at any time of the day or evening. One of the Fab 5'ers will respond to you (the Fab 5'ers include Prin, Suzybenj, Ruth_Canal_Runner, Moreless and myself, Lowcal).
If you prefer, you could click 'follow' and my name (Lowcal) and you'd be automatically contacted when I post the thread.
Hope to see you then. If you choose not to copy and paste today's post, then it is possible that people will miss your contribution, and that would be a pity.
Hope this all makes sense, and apologies for my wordy reply!
Thank you for the welcome. I'm sure that I lose some (or lots) of weight it will help me healthwise. I think its important to chat with other people, it encourages us to stick to it and helps our self esteem. Tomorrow is the first day for me so----------------------onwards and downwards!!
Great! Tomorrow is your first day - and hope you have a great one. Please look out for the Monday group weigh-in thread that is dated 11th January (I'll be posting it just before 7am tomorrow) - you've added to last Monday's post (4th January) - please note the current date of each thread is always in brackets behind the title "Please Join Us for a Monday Group Weigh-in" - so please do post in tomorrow's thread, so you can be part of the whole day's weigh-in - and everyone can see your post there, as it will be a busy day, and you'll be seeing lots of people's weigh-in posts there, and I hope you'll enjoy being part of the thread.
I've just amended this reply, as I've noticed that you've posted in last week's weigh-in post (i.e. the one dated 4th January) and this is the link to yesterday's weigh-in post (11th January) - so if you could re-post your result in there, Ruth will be able to include you in our stats. Hope that's ok, here is the link:
Just to say I'll copy and paste your result into this week's thread for you, so don't worry about doing that - Ruth will be able to add your great stats to our weekly total.
Hi low cal, such a good post this. Hope this works. I have just signed up to the 12 week plan and am hoping it works. I have one more stone to lose. I have two young kids aged 3 and 1.5. Should really have that as an excuse but I do sometimes lol! I'm on mfp on 1200 cals but find it so hard to stick to. Hopefully this plan will be good. Am making my way through reading ur welcome info for new joiners
Thanks for posting - you have joined in the thread which is dated 4th January, hence that is now an old post - but I wanted you to know that I will copy and paste what you've written, and put it in the latest thread, which is dated 11th January 2016:
Then Ruth will be able to count you into our latest stats as a 'new member of the Monday group weigh-in thread'.
Please look out for the next Monday group weigh-in thread, which I will be posting on 18th January (shortly before 7am), so you can then join in with the very latest thread with your first week results. I know it's only a few days away, but you'll be on the way on your weight loss journey, and hope it goes really well.
Hi folks Well this is my first weigh-in and I'm 12 stone 7 lb - the heaviest I've ever been. Got some events coming up so I don't think I'll lose anything but if I can just not put any more on that would be good.
Welcome to the Monday group weigh-in. You've actually posted on an earlier thread (dated 4th January 2016) so I'm going to copy and paste your reply into our latest thread (dated 18th January 2016) so that Ruth_Canal_Runner can count your stats, and you'll be in the up-to-date thread.
Thanks for sharing your starting weight, and I hope you felt ok doing that. Hopefully you'll be lighter next Monday at the next weigh-in. Are you doing the NHS 12 week plan? Let me know if you've not seen it, and would like to take a look, but you can access it via the icon in the top middle of the screen, called 'Weight Loss NHS' and find the 12 week downloadable pages via the link pages. Let me know if you have any difficulty finding it.
Look out for the correctly dated thread on Monday - the next one will be 25th January - or you could click on follow and my name (Lowcal) and you'd be automatically notified when I post the thread. There is now a 'Morning Session' and an 'Afternoon/Evening Session' as well, so that you can post in the correct time slot. But we do check both threads, so don't worry too much if you post in either.
Wishing you a great week ahead.
Here is a link to the latest thread, incase you want to have a look through:
I am Tina and a newbie. I studied musical theatre and graduated last year. I was pretty activ then but since graduation I only worked as waitress and in a shop to pay the rent until I do my teachers degree in 2017. Since leaving uni I moved in with my boyfriend and I read that that sometimes makes you put on weight but I also blame it on not being as active and also not eating as healthy anymore.
I started the nhs 12 weeks plan thought I did quite well in the first week but had some personal problems in the second week and I just decided to see this week as my second week.
when I started the plan I was 73kg (11.50 stones) apparently after week one I gone down to 71kg (11.18 stones) not quite sure if that is correct of if I just read the scale wrong now I weigh myself in the evening to keep track.
ideally I want to go down to 63-65 as then I am in a healthy BMI but I also know that muscles are quite heavy and I do ballet 1 1/2 hours every week and 2 hours of ballroom. I also started the 5K running app with the women pack (app, bum, legs) which I try to do 3 days a week.
I think eating is a bit of a struggle as my boyfriend and I are not able to eat before 8 because of work and he doesn't like just a salad.
I use my fitness pal to recored everything and also wear a step counter. my problem is that on the app I am allowed to eat 1200cal but on ncs 1400, I sometimes go over but for example yesterday I had ballet and did 15000 steps which but me down in my fitness pal. would you say I should go with that or shall I say how much I ate and then mark I haven't achieved my goal of 1400cal?
I think I said a lot but I think I am still trying to find my way to become more healthy.
You've joined in with a Monday group weigh-in, but it is an old post, dated 4th January 2016. I am therefore going to copy and paste your reply, and put it in our current post, and here is a link to that post for you to find where it will be:
