If you are joining this Monday group weigh-in thread for the first time today, then Welcome! You are not alone, as we had quite a few newbies last week (58 infact!), and hopefully you'll get to know the other group participants relatively quickly.
If you're new, please introduce yourself and share your starting weight (if you feel comfortable to do so) and your initial weight loss goals - setting yourself mini-goals leading to your ultimate weight loss goal can also be particularly helpful.
The Fab 5'ers (Prin, Suzybenj, Ruth_Canal_Runner, Moreless and myself, Lowcal) will ensure that anyone who contributes to this thread will have a response from one or more of us at some point in the day and/evening. The thread can get very busy, so please bear with us - we have other commitments during the day, but you will receive a response from one or more of us.
We hope that the site will cope with the large size of our Monday group thread. However, please be patient if it gets a bit slow and glitchy towards the end of the day (when it's larger). We have asked the Healthunlocked admin staff to bring this to the attention of the IT team, so hopefully they can look into fixing this issue.
OK, I'll kick-off with my weigh-in results for this week:
Last Monday I weighed 13 stone 4.8 pounds, and today I weigh 13 stone 2.2 pounds, so I've lost 2.6 pounds this week. I am very happy with this result, as most of my Christmas excesses are now off, but I still have 2.2 pounds to lose to reach my pre-Christmas weight, so I am hoping to lose 2 pounds this week, all being well.
For people who don't know me, I am a healthy BMI currently, but at my heaviest I was 18 stone 8 pounds (about 5 years ago), and I'm now trying to get into the 12's (my ultimate goal weight is 12 stone 7 pounds). I joined this site in January 2013, and have found it incredibly helpful and supportive on my weight loss journey. I hope you'll also find it motivating and supportive.
Something that has certainly helped motivate me this week has been the "Around the World in 80 Days Challenge", which is where participants do daily exercise and count up the number of kms they cover (e.g. by walking, running, cycling, swimming etc). If you are interested in being part of what is an extremely motivating Challenge, then please take a look at this link. Lizzy and the other Around the Worlders would love to have you on board, and it's going to be an amazing Adventure to be part of - my advice would be don't miss out! Just add your name to the post, if you're interested, via the following link:
Hello low cal, well done on your loss, 10st 6 lb for me today, a small gain of 1/4 lb, not been very focused, as a msintainer it seems to hard to shift any weight of these days, we see what next week brings tho
Thank you! That's a very small gain this week of 0.25 pounds, it's virtually maintaining anyway! You mentioned not being very focused this week, so maybe you can improve on that this week. I think you've done well.
Morning everyone scales say 12st 12.2lb this morning so I've lost 1lb but I'm also trying to eat the naughty treats left from Christmas so I'm happy with a 1lb loss xx
Morning! Fantastic to hear you've lost 1 pound this week, that's great! You've obviously managed to include the occasional left-over Christmas treat within your week, and coped well. Great progress.
Hope you enjoyed your week and wishing you another great week ahead.
Thank you. Even though I didn't eat loads before I've completely stopped eating sugary snacks (biscuits etc). Skin feels better and I think my sweet tooth is disappearing too! Bonus. Going to try and get a bit more exercise done this week. The Marathon in April isn't going to run itself!
Good news on the weight loss front Lowcal and almost back to pre Christmas weight, that's a good achievement, I wish I could say the same!
After a difficult week I'm please to have lost 1lb, not as much as I'd hoped and I fell short of my goal but I'm putting last week into the 'New Year Blip' box and moving on. I received a number of very helpful responses to my weekend post and will be starting this week with renewed enthusiasm as a result.
Best wishes for the coming week everyone, keep up the good work!
Sorry to hear you've had a difficult week, but really glad to hear you've lost 1 pound, so Congratulations for doing that.
Sensible to put last week into your "New Year Blip" box, as that means you can move forward from it, and the helpful responses to your weekend post will certainly help and sustain you going into this week. Having renewed enthusiasm is fantastic, and should sustain you throughout the week to come.
Wishing you a better week ahead. Don't forget that you've lost a pound, despite a difficult week, and that's incredible!
Hi low all congrats on your loss, I have lost 3lb this week down to 16st 4 lb , trying to brave some excersise, but haven't found the motivation to go out in the dark and rain yet.
Many Congratulations to you on losing 3 pounds this week, and getting down to the low end of the 16's, that is fantastic! Really well done.
You mention that you're trying to brave some exercise - that's great. I know it's tough to find the motivation to go out in the dark and rain, so if you don't make it, then maybe consider some indoor exercise you could perhaps do in the meantime. Sometimes it can be fun to set up a 'home-gym' - e.g. do some squats and press-ups in one area, use stairs to go up and down for another 'activity' and perhaps lift do some dancing to music in another area - i.e. set up some home exercise circuits - it can be fun if you've not tried it.
Wishing you another great week ahead, and let's hope the weather improves so you can get out and enjoy some outdoor exercise too.
Good morning Lowcal & team. Happy New Year to you all. Yes finally all my visitors have departed!
Brilliant news Lowcal. You are so close to the 12's you could almost reach out & touch them!
Me, well haven't been on the scales for a month but can report that I only gained 4 lbs. Must now work really hard to get into those elusive 11's. Am back to the gym this a.m despite knowing that it will only be the once this week as my husband is back Thursday for an urgent specialist appt & op on his back. Back to nursing!!!!
Good morning and Happy New Year!!! It's great to see you - we missed you!!! I hope you had a great time with your visitors, and that you enjoyed Christmas and New Year celebrations.
Thanks so much for your kind words on my weight, and I hope I'll get into the 12's sometime this year! They seem close, but I know what they're like... elusive for me...! Never mind, I will keep positive and try to get them!
You've not been on the scales for a month (i.e. 4 weeks) and you've gained 4 pounds - that's not much in the scale of things after all the Seasonal excesses, so for the stats I'm sure Ruth will take 1 pound gain for this week (i.e. 4 pounds divided by the 4 weeks = 1 pound gained per week). Hope you're ok with that.
Sorry to hear husband is due to have an urgent operation on his back, and hope all goes well. Good job you're a great nurse, and I hope you enjoy your gym session this morning, and this week too - before your nursing duties kick in later in the week. At least he's in good hands. Wishing you both well.
Thank you Lowcal for your kind words. I wonder which one of us will get into our lower stone first??? I know I will find it difficult with Rod home BUT........A healthy challenge maybe! Good luck, you are such a star that I really hope that by the end of this month I can celebrate your success. Big hugs X
Yes I must get back on track physically & mentally. I know Rod will encourage me and bribe me with gold from the Middle East (hopefully lol!!!) Seriously though, even from afar he encourages and supports my efforts so just know that he will join me in watching what he eats too while he is home which is his commitment to me. Yes, still so very much in love & devoted to each other after all these years!
Candystripe I replied to your post this afternoon who knows where it is? 4lb for Xmas is a very manageable amount and you are a lady of determination so they will soon fall off. But you are also a lady of desperation- for those Desigual jeans 😜
You see the problem is, for every beautiful pair of jeans you slim into, you have to leave another pair of beautiful jeans behind! Oh OK, will take your reprimand lol! Yep, back on track now! Hope it's going good for you too. X
Why are you disappointed Bobs-Minion? You had a great week last week! You got rid of a whole bag of sugar, or 4 packs of butter, never to be seen again. That's fantastic!!
Celebrate every pound lost, because you worked hard for it and should be really proud of yourself
Well done on your loss, you'll get yo the 12's soon at this rate 😉
Last week I weighed 195.8 kb - this week I am 194.4 lb. It's a loss, but after exercising, watching all I eat and no drinking at the weekend I was secretly hoping for a bit more,
Don't be down Elissy, I think with all the exercising we're doing, we're increasing our muscle mass and we all know that weighs more than fat, but will make us look so fit!!
Well done with that weight loss this week Lowcal, you've obviously been really motivated these last few weeks and doing really well. You are sooo close to getting into those 12s now !!! Good luck !
My weight this morning is 163.4lbs, meaning a loss this week of 2.6lbs. Very pleased with that, and obviously all those km I'm doing for Around the World is helping a lot. A bit more of a difficult week this week, as it's my daughters birthday coming up, so we've got birthday teas, pancake breakfasts and a trip to Byrons planned (not all on one day I hasten to add !). Will have to do more kms I think
Well first to say sorry I am going to Have a negative impact on the figures 😕.
Today I weigh 11 11, so +1lb.
I would like to say this was the previous week catching up with me.
However... I do weigh daily. Every day last week my weight went down a fraction of a pound until Saturday I was 11 08!! Imagine my joy!
However we had a meal out Saturday night, a long standing commitment and a 100 birthday party yesterday. Humpf.... hence the +1lb.
On the plus side, I walked over 76000 steps, had 269 active minutes, had 2 days without alcohol, started day with day hot water and lemon on 5 days and meditated on 5 days. (All mini habits I want to achieve).
So even if I put on a pound I have developed a good platform for next week.
I don't think that's really a gain in that case Asics, it's more temporary as a result of the big party. If you were seeing losses during the week then I think that's a clearer indication of what's really happening. Just keep doing all your new little habits. I steered clear of wine last night despite feeling the stress of a weekend ending and my homework not completed. Just wrote out more to do lists in nice coloured pens and settled down to a relaxing evening, it worked. Hope all your little strategies keep working too
Please don't every be concerned about the affect of a gain on the stats - we are a large group and we can 'take' the gains - and we all appreciate that there are some weeks when any one of us may gain - weight does fluctuate, and there can be so many factors contributing to that. Some weeks, despite all the best of efforts there can be a gain, which can feel inexplicable, but can be down to hormonal fluctuations, water retention, or as simple as a bowel movement too many - just a few examples there.
I can see that you can easily see where the 1 pound gain has come from - you've had some social occasions this week, but within the week you enjoyed seeing the scales get down to 11 stone 8 pounds, that is brilliant!
I am also impressed by your exercise this week - that's really good. I hope you enjoyed all those steps and active minutes, and that you enjoyed the days when you abstained from alcohol and did your meditating on five of those days - I can imagine that was an interesting experience.
Like you say, you've built a good platform, and I would like to wish you the best with your goal to lose 3 pounds this week. That's quite a lot of weight to lose in one week - as most often 1 to 2 pounds is achievable, but you're sounding determined, so hope you achieve your goal.
Thank you for your support Lowcal.Much appreciated!
Congrats on your loss! Rooting for you to achieve that next goal!
Woohoo Lowcal! You're on a roll with that 2.6lb loss! You must be so pleased. Hope this week brings more of the same
I've 'gained' 2lb this week to 10st4 but this is just a normal fluctuation for me now, as I 'lost' the same 2lb last week, and I'm overall happily within my 10st0-10st7 maintaining range. I'm up earlier than normal as I'd resolved to definitely run this morning. But it's torrential out there! I'm sure that sounds just as wussy as it is, but I'm just not going out in that, it looks so dark and horrible. So I'll hang out with you guys for a bit if that's okay. And maybe run after work tonight instead...
I don't blame you for avoiding the rain, exercise is not supposed to be a chore that you must do, so don't spoil your good experiences with forcing yourself to do miserable runs.
Totally agree - nothing worse than a miserable run! Actually, I did get out in the end and ran a shorter distance and it was fine - the rain stopped and I had a good hot bath afterwards to recover and then sped off to work. Today felt like a really good start to the week. I think getting up early is key, as I had a bit of time to wait for the rain to stop. Going to try and keep getting up early, maybe focus on having early starts on Mondays especially
Hope you feel like you've had a good start to the week too Moreless
Hi Ruth (Lovely Fab 5'er and amazing Stats Woman),
Thank you! Yes, I hope I can keep it going this week too.
Congratulations for keeping so well within your maintaining zone Ruth - you've been losing each week till now, so having a 2 pound gain is well within your zone.
Torrential rain - not good. Glad you're hanging out with us. I'm actually just going to have some breakfast now (7.20am) but I'll be back later.
I feel like I've been up and down a few times now, I'm sure this is at least the 3rd time I've been up to 10st4 since reaching goal. But I'm just seeing it as being 'in range'. Maybe you missed some of my wilder fluctuations while you were away! But I'm getting used to it. I'm really trying to have a drive on my running and cycling and also keeping alcohol etc in check, so I don't think I'm in danger of putting any more on for now. As long as I post on here of course as well...!
It's so cool that you can bounce between that 10st & 10.7 Ruth you've got yourself in a really good place with your weight so well done
As for this blooming weather, well I don't blame you not wanting to go out in that, plus it's freezing cold. It's not looking good for the rest of the week either
I did go out in the end Trafford! It got to 7:20 and the rain seemed to have died down so I ran a quick 2k! Short but sweet, but better than nothing at all and still got to work on time I think with this weather you've get to grab a dry patch when it comes!
Fluctuating is a funny thing when you're meant to be AT goal. I hope you're ready for this feeling of being at sea in a general 'zone' of being at goal weight instead of knowing it will always be the same number. I seem to just be bouncing back between 10st2 and 10st4 at the moment so it's not too wild, but it would be lovely to just be the same every week! Oh well
Just wanted to add in here, that my own view on maintenance, bearing in mind I'm not officially maintaining yet - as I still want to get lower with my weight, but 'unofficially' I've been effectively maintaining for the past 2 years at just above 13 stone up to 13 stone 7 pounds, that when and if I finally do get down to 12 stone 7 pounds, my aim would be to have a 'maintenance window/range' of half a stone, hence hoping to stay between the weights of 12 stone 7 pounds and not going out of the 12's again. I would anticipate daily fluctuations in weight still, as I think that is very 'normal' in terms of so many contributing factors (hormonal, salt intake, water retention etc etc) so I doubt it would be very easy to stay exactly the same weight - but I really don't know sufficient about it to be able to say that with any confidence.
I think you are doing so well to be maintaining within a couple of pounds currently.
Thanks Lowcal, I'm finding that I don't need to panic when I 'gain' a couple of lbs now as they seem to come off the next week, so maintaining for me feels like bobbing around on a slightly choppy sea (not too stormy though thankfully!) I'm glad to hear you have a 'maintaining window' in mind too. I originally wanted to reach 10st7, but having a range seems much more realistic now, also as long as I'm within a healthy BMI I'm happy
Good morning NB, I'm also glad to be on here earlier, my phone's coping well with the thread so far which is good! Congrats on a maintain this week, even after all those weeks of consistent loss. I'm sure you'll see a decent loss next week, and will reach that 100kg mark in your own good time. Let's make a pact to be early again next week! Feels like a positive way to start the week
Hi everyone, this is my first weigh in. I'm Charlotte, 37 years old and mainly want to lose weight to help me train for a half marathon early April. Carrying extra weight is like running with a shopping bag! I also would like to improve my diet eating healthier.
Hi and welcome Charlotte, we're really pleased that you've decided to join us
Wow, a half marathon! You sound like an ideal candidate for our around the world challenge, so please do join us
You have a very clear idea of what you want to achieve and when you want to achieve it by and with that positive attitude, I'm sure you'll be successful
I have had a bad week. Been snacking and craving sugar in a way not known since I quit it. As you know I allow sugar on celebration days and there have been a few lately. I believe that this has triggered the cravings again. Although I have pretty much stuck to no sugar, this week there have been a lot of savoury snacks lying around at work (people off loading Christmas goodies). Not good!
I am going to have a strict week and see if that helps.
Not surprisingly I gained 0.8 kg weighing 55 kg this morning.
To put that in context my original goal was 57 kg and I then set a range of 57-55kg and so am still ok.
However I know in the past this is the point I would start the upward Yoyo and would pile back all I have lost.
Thanks to my accountability to this group that won't happen. Hanging around here and weekly weigh in is what will halt the Yoyo.
Good morning 2bFabnFit. Step away from the christmas sweets! Find all the other things that distract your sweet tooth and incorporate them back into your diet again. I like little squares of dark chocolate with sultanas, liquorice tea which is naturally sweet, and I know you've mentioned frozen grapes in the past. Stock your desk with healthy stuff so you're not tempted by other things elsewhere. I'm sure you'll be fine! But also, remember your gain may not be directly due to those sweets, I 'gained' 2lbs today and I'm putting it down to a natural fluctuation, as I'm also well within my range. Hope this week goes well
Thanks Ruth. No sweets have passed my lips...I think it it mainly the savoury snacks but the sugar cravings returned. A few days of being strict should see me right... not worried as I am staying accountable. Still below original goal. All is well. Have a good week x
Okay I see - the sweets you had before were like a gateway to general snacking. Maybe sticking to savoury snacking is a good strategy then, until the sugar has left your system. Good luck - we're watching out for what happens next so you'll def be accountable to us
Good morning Lowcal and everyone, starting today with my weight at 11st 3lb, hoping it won't be too long to get to my first goal of 10st 11lbsto get me to the top of my normal weight range. My ultimate goal being 9st 9lbs which l haven't seen in over a decade. Good luck everyone
Welcome Bunty65, those sound like sensible goals. I hope it won't take you too long to reach your first goal too. Are you following the NHS 12 week plan? There's lots of motivation around this site that should help keep you on track, especially re staying active, and also I've noticed some great soup recipes lately!
Thank you for the welcome Ruth, yes I am using the 12 week NHS plan and intend to regularly check in with the forum to keep motivated. I'll also look out for the soup recipes.
If you scroll down to Bu-dog's post on here, there's an excellent sounding red pepper soup. I'm definitely going to make this at some point healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh....
Oh no is that a sad face trickoflight? I hope those 3kgs weren't too hard won. That's a great loss in a week, but remember it needs to feel sustainable! Hope you're finding fun ways to have all that fruit n veg and that your enjoying your exercises
It is more like a bashful surprised face ha ha. I wouldn't want to lose that much a week as now I am more active I will be hoping to gain some muscles I never knew I had. Plus the fact it is not healthy.
I know it is beginner's fluke but it was also a pleasant surprise for my first week. I used to have a 3 can of coke a day habit but I have stopped that. I made sure I ate a hearty breakfast and also stopped going to the High Street for lunch everyday at work last week, saving me £15 as well as a nice weight loss. A lot of pre planning has gone into meal times, I actually turned an invitation to tea tonight because a friend wanted to go for a carvery meal (on her too I might add). I told her to ask me in a few weeks when I have my portions fully under control.
Okay bashful surprised makes more sense! It was quite small on my phone and I couldn't see. It's quite normal to have a higher loss on the first week - for lots of people they are losing water weight - for me I found I just simply wasn't overloading my stomach so much meaning my digestion was working more efficiently. So you've now got a more accurate idea of what your body weight actually is, rather than what it's carrying around in it!
I also used my weight loss journey as a motivator to make more packed lunches. I've been pre-preparing some things this evening in fact. It helps to have some nice tupperware and make sure it looks appetising as well as tastes great. Congrats on turning down a free dinner too. Maybe when you do eventually go ask on here for tips - I think carvery outings have come up on here before so you may be able to get some useful advice. Have a great week
Hi, my weight last week was 67kg, this week its 66.4kg. Really happy with that , coz I did down a few Lindt truffles and other stuff as it was hubbys birthday. Main change I made is that I made a point of eating breakfast - I am not a breakfast person at all, and tend to look at it as a waste, as I am not really hungry at the time. But I find that having breakfast helps me to not overeat at lunchtime. Lets see how long it lasts!
Great to hear you've lost 0.6 kg this week, that's a great result. I hope you and your husband enjoyed his Birthday - those Lindt truffles sound delicious.
Great that you made a point of eating breakfast, I was reading only yesterday that there was some research suggesting the health benefits of having breakfast - which was good to read. I love breakfast - and have just finished mine (porridge with nuts and seeds, and semi-skimmed milk - lovely!).
I know you're not a fan of breakfast, but the fact you've had it, and the result has been that its helping you not to overeat at lunchtime is a really good result. Long may it last - but see how you go!
Good morning 🙂. First official weigh-in for me. I'm 12 st 6lb this morning, or 79kg. Bit disappointed as I was 80kg on sat last week and 78kg this sat. I know I've been eating well so I'll just put it down to grumpy scales!
I've felt very welcome this week, thank you everyone.
Very nervous as am off to dentist today with a large lump in my gum. Abcess I presume. 😳
Welcome to the second week Knit and Codes. The scales never quite preform as we hoped. But still a KG gone - very respectable. a healthy and sustainable weight loss.
Sorry about your tooth access - I hope it mends soon.....
Morning..Well done LC - setting the standard for this week
For myself dry jan going well - two weekends down. I have also refreshed my diet by eating lots more fresh veg. So i have had a restrictive week - but not madly so. I have also tried to contribute to around the world in 80 days - so upped my exercise levels.
The result 1 .75 pounds gone- pleased - but disappointed not another .25 to take it to a full two pounds .
Therefore, closer to my 12 st mini goal. That leaves 5 pounds to go to end of the month.
Well done for making 2 weekends on your Dry January. Great to hear you've refreshed your diet by eating lots more fresh veg as well. Hope you're enjoying the Around the World in 80 Days Challenge - it's helped me up my exercise levels too - very motivating!
Brilliant result - Congratulations on losing 1.75 pounds this week. Closer to your 12 stone mini goal. 5 pounds to go till the end of the month - you can do that!
Hi, It's 7.20am and I'm just going to have some breakfast, but I'll be back later. Great to see so many people weighing in early today - will look forward to reading and replying to your posts when I get back. Moreless and Ruth are in the house I think - lots of activity going on.
Joined the group last Tuesday weighing 12.7. Had a "feeling determined" first week weighing 12.3 this morning ....... So really pleased with the 4lb loss.
1st weigh in this morning starting weight 12st 10 with bmi of 31.5 and now im 12st 5 with bmi of 30.6, still in the obese range but very nearly the overweight one so getting there.
Good morning this is my first weigh in. At the moment I'm the heaviest I've ever been. I've really been motivated by Around the World in 80 days and at times where I would have sat on the settee and watched TV I've gone out for a walk.
Oops! 69.9kg, that's up 0.4 kg. I've been finishing off the Christmas goodies. Who knew Christmas cake was so high in calories!!! Onward and downward. Ultimate target weight is 57.5kg but I'd like to be 65 by holiday in March.
Well done Lowcal and all those who have had a successful week!
Unfortunately I have been slipping into old habits and snacking / eating too much. Bit fed up with myself tbh, was much better last year and I need to re-focus! Somehow I keep losing and gaining the same few pounds!
So the scales said 12-4 first thing this morning, no loss- I must get below 12 stone! Argh! It really shouldn't be difficult - after all I've lost over 30lb since this time last year. I think the dark dreary days don't help....
Don't feel despondent rainshine, take the time to read every single post on this thread today, because they're sure to get you remotivated and back on track.
Use the commitment you've shown to Lizzie's challenge to spur you on with your healthy eating too.
Thanks more less ... Just heard about Bowie and feeling my chocolate demon calling so I will resolutely go the other way and make this a good week in honour of the Thin White Duke x
I am also really sad to hear the news of David Bowie's death today - I was watching the news earlier whilst eating my breakfast, and I'm still processing it now.
Don't let that chocolate Demon take hold - I'm with you on that one. Be strong, and like you say, resolutely go the other way - definitely make this a good week in honour of the Thin White Duke.
Also, to add to what Moreless has said, you've maintained your weight - and maintaining is better than gaining, so don't let your result dissuade you from a good week ahead. Like Moreless says, 11's - here you come!!!
Unfortunately gained 2 pound because of health issues hopefully can get myself straight so I'm 12.13 still under 13 stone but gonna push myself this week
Well my problem was ended up with Mother Nature for 2 weeks and was so run down but doctor put me on meds and starting to feel a lot better but I did get to point where I ate loads because was so down and felt like crap
Glad to hear you're starting to feel a lot better. It's tough when you feel like that, so be kind to yourself and just go forward this week as if it's a fresh new week (which it is!).
I weighed 12.6 last week and have lost 2Lb - My BMI is in overweight range and target weight is 11stone. I received a lot of encouragement when joining a few days ago and I have found it helpful to know we are posting results today
Can you tell me how the round the world works please- I can't do heavy exercise (knees!!) but swim , so wonder how this is recorded etc
Swimming is fab for the Around the World challenge, all you have to do is count the number of laps you do and record them daily on the thread that Lizzie posts. If you don't swim every day, you can walk, if it's not too difficult for you and log the number of steps/kilometres on the same thread
Week one, Concentrated on exercise this week with the 80 day challenge and it has paid off with a 5.8lb weight loss, over the moon. This next week I have a meal out on Wednesday and I am away at the weekend so really need to work hard on the exercise.
Morning to you Lowcal and everyone joining in today.
BIG CONGRATULATIONS Lowcal on your lose of 2.6 pounds this week this is a great result for all the hard work you have put in this week and I am so pleased to see this result your getting ever closer to reaching your goal and I am sure that the hard work is going to continue into this week with the around the world challenge which I also find inspiring and although I have had to take things easy a little more this week it has ultimately paid off with a 4 lb loss on my Sat weigh in.
Well done to everyone who participated in last weeks weigh in with a staggering loss of 86.2 lbs this is a great achievement. With the thread increasing in size the fab five do have your work cut out of you, but you do all work so very well together creating this fabulous thread and you make everyone feel so welcome and that's what I love about joining in
Many congratulations on reaching a healthy BMI Lowcal this is just fantastic, but I know that you still want to reach your own personal goal of getting down to 12st 7lbs so I am glad to still be part of egging you on in reaching that goal in 2016 which I am sure that this will be the year to do just that
I hope that you achieve your goal of losing 2 pounds this week Lowcal, this is the number I would love to see gone this week as well so this makes two of us.
The Lamb cutlets were very succulent by the way, but hardly have any meat on so will never buy them again, ever!! dinner was nice though. I just seared them in the pan and then cooked a little longer in the over with a mushroom and red onion gravy served with mash, cabbage and sprouts.
Wishing you a wonderful week ahead and I will catch up with the thread either this morning or after work. Best wishes as always x
You are calling this thread a 'tread' and now I'm wondering whether I use the right word or not. I am easily confused... Thank you so much for your continued support and I really appreciate you continuing to egg me on to get to my ultimate goal weight of 12 stone 7 pounds, because I nearly gave up on this 'dream' over Christmas, as I've been chasing the 12's for the past 2 years! I came very close this time last year as well, but just couldn't get there - but the reason I'm continuing to focus on the goal this year is because I am actually feeling 'more positive'.
I want to say that continued support from the people in this thread (hope I'm using the right word), people like yourself, and so many others too numerous to list, means that I can feel your support behind me, and it does spur me on. Also, Challenges like Lizzy's Around the World in 80 Days challenge - and Sueper's Christmas Challenge have been integral too. My exercise level has increased so far this year, and I'm hoping I can keep that up - as I think my 2.6 pound loss this week has been helped a lot by that extra exercise last week.
Congratulations to you for losing 4 pounds this week - I always look out for your Saturday weigh-in post (as you know) and enjoy chatting to you in there and in other places in the forum. You inspire a lot of people with your weight loss story and it's great you're getting so close to your ultimate goal. I hope you lose those 2 pounds this week - hopefully we'll both do it!
Great that you tried the lamb cutlets, but sorry to hear there wasn't much meat on them, and you'll not be having them again. I rarely eat red meat myself. I love chicken and fish mainly. My fish pie I had last night was really tasty. I've got another portion for us to eat tonight, so I'm looking forward to that.
Wishing you another great week ahead Trafford1, and hope you have a lovely week! Will look out for you in the Around the World updates - I'm sure you'll be kicking those kms.
Hi Lowcal the tread..I mean thread is just me tapping away and not noticing that I have missed out the letter or it's because I am saying it in my mind and it's just not typing a whole word LOL. That seems to happen to me a lot lately. Or maybe I'm just getting old either way thank you for pointing this out and I have corrected it now
It's great to hear your feeling 'more positive' and believe that you can achieve your ultimate goal this year and I believe you will too. There's no stopping you from achieving anything you put your mind to as you have already proven this coming down from you highest weight and yes we are all behind you Lowcal
It's great that your fitness levels have increased. I love it when that happens and they gym sessions and all those extra kms will certainly have benefited you. The more you do the further you'll go and in return you'll get ever closer to your goal.
Good luck to both of us reaching this weeks goal, let's push the boat out and see how far we can get. It's plain sailing from here......
well done lowcal on your loss this week putting in kms are definitely paying off for you.
This week I've lost 1lb which puts me to 10st 6lb which is what i managed to get down to last year so feeling quite pleased putting it down to the around the world challenge which im really enjoying and has pushed me to up my activity levels.
Hoping eveyone has a great week this week good luck 😀
I've had a great week...kept track of all my food and calories...below 1600 each day! Did 3 gym/strength classes, 2 spin classes and several run/walks...more than 10,000steps almost every day. Yet i have managed to gain weight, going from 12s 5.8lbs to 12s 7.2lbs...is that 1.4lbs?
Am going to try not to be down hearted....my muscles are quite sore from going back to gym classes so i can only assume its fluid and will go at some point.
Anyway as they say in here...onwards and downwards! Good luck all for the week ahead 😀😀
That's muscles Quin! You are going to be so ripped!!
Don't get downhearted, it's not all about the scales. You've been toning and strengthening those muscles and they will repay you by burning more calories when you're at rest. You're super woman and should be feeling so proud of yourself
Thankyou Moreless...will keep going...i know from past experience that eventually it all falls into place 😀
Hi everyone. I still weigh 12st 2lb but that's because I fell into the trap of snacking on Xmas treats still lying around and thinking that because I was exercising more I'd still lose weight. Well of course not. It's what you put in your mouth that counts. Lesson learnt so this week I focus again and stick to my calorie allowance. Exercise helps but number 1 is the daily calorie allowance. Bye ....
Morning LC, not had a great week to be honest, barely cooked anything for myself, eating at my friends houses and a few takeaways however I am 12st 1lb so have managed to still make a loss of 0.4lb which I'm happy about.
Very well done on your 2.6lb loss this week! Phenomenal!
Well done on your weight loss. I've just completed week 1 and now weigh 11st 8.2 Lbs so a loss of 3.8 lbs. Here's to week 2. Hope everyone has a good week.
1st week weigh in I lost 2lbs which I am pleased that it has gone in the right direction (but secretly wished it would be more) however, any loss is good right??? Soldier onto this week where I hope to do more exercise. Good luck to all fellow dieters.
Good morning everyone. I hope you don't mind me joining you this week. Not sure if I do it by just posting a reply or not. If I need to do something different please let me know.
I have been on diets before and lost quite a bit but of course put it all back on! Hoping this time to keep it off by adopting new habits as opposed to 'dieting'.
My weight this morning is 12st 4lbs. I would like to lose about 3st overall.
Good morning Lowcal, other fellow Fab 5'ers and fellow losers
That's a fantastic loss Lowcal, almost back to your pre-Christmas weight now and I'm sure this week will say goodbye to the final 2lbs and then it's all systems go to the 12's
We've all been motivated by Lizzy's challenge and I would never have considered doing the amount of exercise I have been doing, without that encouragement
I'm recording a maintain this week, but am perfectly happy with that following an amusing incident that happened to me earlier in the week. I was carrying a mug of coffee in each hand and my pj bottoms ended up around my ankles! It's just as well we didn't have the grandchildren staying with us, as that could have scarred them for life
Anyway that sent me scurrying off for the tape measure. I was thrilled to discover that I've lost a total of 5" off my hips, but was even more over the moon to see a loss of 2.5" off my waist, which as you know, has been my bête noire since the off
Thank you so much for your supportive and encouraging words, which I always appreciate.
I am thrilled to hear that you've lost 5 inches off your hips, and even more thrilled to hear you've lost 2.5 inches off your waist, as I know that was resistant before - maybe that's why you had that incident earlier in the week when your pj's fell down - your clothes just aren't fitting you anymore. You need to go smaller in the clothes department! Well done for maintaining your weight too - I know you were hoping for a loss on the scales, but the body measurements speak for themselves, and you've made such excellent progress - you'll probably get a scales result next week.
It is indeed a Happy Day for you - and I hope you have another great week ahead. Will be keeping a look out for you in the Around the World in 80 days challenge, and thank you so much to you and Lizzy for your encouragement and support within that thread to all us Around the Worlders who post our results. I don't know how you do it on Mondays, as you support that thread and also this one - you are indeed 'Fabulous, Fab 5'er'.
Thank you Lowcal, I too appreciate every encouraging word I receive from you
I'm more than happy to support both threads on a Monday, it makes me feel totally connected to everyone and I also have to admit to being a natural born blether
Wow moreless all that cycling has really paid off with a total of 7.5 inches gone for good in all the right places. Your going to have to go out and get some new pj's mrs
That's fantastic I am so happy for you Moreless. Visible changes are sometimes even more meaningful that figures on the scale. Well done, way to go you!!!
Wow I just saw this moreless - sorry I'm a bit late to the party! So glad you're losing inches off your waist finally - and a pretty respectable number too. Plus 5 inches off your hips! You're disappearing New pyjamas for you I think
Hey there, I've lost 2lb this week so that's 4lbs in 2 weeks my starting weight was 15 stone 3lb so it's encouraging to see the scales moving down to the next stone! I'm really short as well only 5 ft 3ins so my weight is very unhealthy in the BMI range but I'm trying really hard to change my lifestyle and not just 'diet' because I know that doesn't work for me...12 week plan is ace and so is 80 days around the world! Hoping to see the scales come down another stone mark soon!
Thank you I love the support on here it's really good!!!
Winner winner , chicken dinner
I feel like a double winner this week. Lost 2lbs. and my diabetic numbers are coming down. I'm expecting some renewed energy soon. Got to keep on keeping on.
That's great news about your diabetic figures coming down Vintage! I was also excited at the point when my blood pressure came down and my asthma tests came out massively improved. There's so much to be gained along the way!
Thank you Lowcal, a very inspiring message. I agree that joining the Around the world in 80 Days was a good decision to join, I find it motivating. My weight results are disappointing as I have gained a 1lb so am now 13.6. So frustrating when I know Im really trying my utmost. Ill keep on plodding. Sad!
Don't be sad Marianne, you've probably gained muscle mass too and muscles are heavier than fat. Remember to take all your measurements and keep an eye on them.
Don't plod, pound out those K's with your head held high and be proud of what you're doing!
I am so happy that you're also finding the Around the World in 80 Days Challenge to be motivating. I am sorry to hear you've had a 1 pound gain this week, and I understand that you feel a bit sad about that, but try not to let it put you off - if you can't identify anything that might have contributed to the gain, then keep doing what you're doing, and all being well it should come off very soon. Ensure you're eating sufficient calories though, as sometimes not eating enough can cause weight to stall, so do double check and make sure you're getting all the nutrients you need etc.
Wishing you a great week ahead, and here's to further Adventures in the Around the World trip. Kicking those kms certainly helps.
Last week I weighed 12st 10lbs and this week I weigh the same :(. Really disappointed to be honest because I did 10k + steps everyday as well as playing badminton, I've not even lost any inches. I've been keeping to 1450 calories per day which is what my fit bit and nhs site reccomend and still nothing.
Moan over! It's a new week....might loose double this week
I am so sorry to hear you're feeling disappointed this week. You have done lots of exercise - 10k plus steps everyday, and playing Badminton too - and sticking with the recommended calories etc - I can understand your disappointment, but I do agree with you that maybe next week you'll lose quite a bit in one go, so please keep doing what you're doing, and you'll reap the benefits - sometimes we have to wait a bit to see the results. It's not an exact science to weight loss, and there are so many contributing factors to why the scales move or don't move in any one week.
As I said to Prin, a 'maintain' is better than a 'gain' - so please try to remain positive in the face of maintaining - and hopefully you'll see some results on the scales and/or losses in your measurements very soon! Maybe even tomorrow! But be patient and it will happen - as long as you stay on track.
Wishing you a great week ahead. You're doing really well with your plan.
Thank you! You've had a very similar loss to me this week - Congratulations on losing 2.5 pounds, that is really great!!! We are definitely in the right direction.
I know you're in a rush, so you may have gone already, but hopefully you'll read this when you get back, and I would like to wish you another great week ahead.
Wow, what a great result for you this week - Congratulations on losing 1.1 kg this week, and having only 0.4kg of Christmas gain to go - that is really great!!!
Very inspiring thread abd weightloss Lowcal I agree the round the world challenge is fun and motivational too. My weight has stayed the same11,2 and a half. Still no kitchen so relying on the goodwill of friends family and a microwave. My Fitbit arrived yesterday so looking forward to using it. I haven't tracked food for a couple of years so I shall start that tomorrow as the Fitbit seems to have food tracking.......
Thanks so much for your encouraging words. Yes, we're enjoying that Around The World in 80 Days Challenge'.
Well done for maintaining your weight this week, as I know you are in the midst of upheaval whilst your kitchen is refurbished, and that must be challenging in so many ways.
Great that your Fitbit has arrived - hope you enjoy using that. Will be interested to hear how you find it. I know that Small-steps mentioned that hers is addictive! Great that it has food tracking as well.
Wishing you another great week ahead. A 'maintain' is so much better than a 'gain'.
Which fitbit have you gone for Prin? I just can't decide... Definitely need something more accurate tho - looked at my phone last night and it was connected to my qstep and clocking up some amazing mileage as we drove along in the car!!
Fitbit charge hr, it tells the time, and does your heart rate, steps, cals, distance you can see these all on a display the fit bit flex I think doesn't actually show these you have to track on a phone or PC. The app on the phone shows more detail and allows you to customise the display and set alarms. I had some vouchers from work ( for being an outstanding employee obviously😜) And added a tenner to them, it's currently 79.99 in Argos a good price I am lead to believe ....
Joined the group last week . Starting weight 11 stone 12.25lbs. Pleased to say I have lost 5.75lbs this week so I am now 12st 6.5lb. Congratulations to everyone for their losses after Christmas.
Wow, what a fantastic result for your first week - really well done! Losing 5.75 pounds, that's really great!!! You're now into the lower half of the 12's, and I bet that feels good!
Hope you enjoyed your first week and wishing you another great week ahead.
Wishing you a Very Warm Welcome, and thanks for joining us for this Monday group weigh-in. You've shared your starting weight, and I hope that felt ok to do so - hopefully you'll be whittling that down over the next few weeks, and I hope you have a great first week.
Do have a look at the NHS 12 week plan, if you've not already seen it. I'm hoping you've seen a 'Welcome Newbie' pack - but if you've not seen that, let me know and I'll give you the link - it's got lots of helpful info about what's around in the forum, and was compiled by enthusiastic participants within the forum.
It’s very motivating reading so many positive posts. Also congratulations to everyone who has lost weight.
The bad news is that I only lost 1 pound in my first week.
The good news is that this was despite having no plan, not keeping a journal and lack of discipline! At least it has taught me what to fix for this week!
My opening weight was 286 pounds (56 inch waist) I am now 285 pounds my target is 189 pounds. I am keeping a food & exercise journal. ‘I will I can I must’ weigh in at 280 next week.
It's not bad news at all steveph. You're heading in the direction you want. I find it helps to write down all my food and work out calories. I drink green tea so don't count my drinks which makes it easier. Keep going. It'll be worth it. You'll feel so much better.
I haven't posted here for a while since I've been hiding from the scales, but I am back to share my weekly progress
I stepped on the scales today for the first time since finishing my Christmas break and I am 14 stone 13lbs ... I think I was hovering around 14 stone 9lbs before xmas so that's a 4lb gain in around 3 weeks.
Yesterday I started my healthy new life by jumping out of bed at 5.30am expecting to suddenly be an athlete. My plan was to do the 'Women's Health' energy boost workout, which consists of doing as many repetitions of 4 exercises
- 5 x plank rows each side
- 5 x squats & above head weight lift
- 10 x dumbbell swings
- 5 x burpees
in 5 minutes.
I decided to play the insanity workout dvd in the background, hoping a man's voice going - push, push yeeeeh would be motivating.
Needless to say, plank position holding dumbbells was a tad painful and I was unable to do a full burpee as elegantly as I'd intended. I managed to do 2 rounds in 9 minutes
I will persevere though since I'm inspired by that bbc show where those people gained 3% muscle mass by doing toothbrush squats everyday
I'm also trying the low GL diet plan using the book that was mentioned in one of the health unlocked threads (Patrick Holfords Low GL cookbook) - the recipes are so simple! Just a shame there are no pictures
So happy that you're back with us, we missed you! Really good that you've been brave and faced the scales today - well done! That is a brave step after not weighing in for a while, and especially after Christmas and New Year celebrations etc. You've gained 4 pounds in 3 weeks, so I make that an average gain of 1.33 pounds per week, so I hope you're ok if Ruth perhaps takes 1.33 pound gain as your figure for her stats this week? That isn't a large gain at all considering all the Seasonal festivities.
I am really impressed by your exercise schedule, and think it looks really good! I really admire Patrick Holford - I've read many of his books, and I really like the low glycaemic index meal plans that he advocates. Really healthy and balanced as diet plans go (that's my personal opinion anyway) - I hope you enjoy making some of the recipes - you could always post a picture of your creation of the recipe on the forum? I know you are disappointed that there aren't any pictures in the recipe book.
You are sounding really motivated and positive Gracie, and I hope you have a fantastic week ahead.
Still trying to increase my veg portion so I don't get hungry - the low GL book recommends 10GL for lunch so 50g soba noodles and a portion of protein is around 10 - seems like nothing though
I love the pictures of your meals, they look great, and what a good idea to include the link like that. Many thanks for sharing those. They both look delicious!!!
Welcome back to the fold Gracie I think you were more worried than you needed to be, a 4lb gain over 3 weeks, is only 1.33lbs/week, which is minimal
Don't be scared to face those scales and stick with us, because it's only by facing the truth that we can stop the rot.
I'm so pleased that you're re-energised and well done for completing the strength exercises that you did, I'm sure that continued practice will make a big difference to you Why not join us on our Around the World trip for extra motivation?
Good luck with your new diet too. I'm sure that with all these positive changes, next week will see that back of some, if not all, of those regained pounds
Hi Lowcal and all. So glad you're getting back to your pre Christmas weight Lowcal I had got up to 17st11&1/4 last week and this week am 'down' to 17st9&1/4 so 2 lbs off for me I'm doing dry January and that has probably helped!
I restarted c25k last night ( having shaken off the plantar fasciitis that re occurred last time I tried) only to end the evening hobbling with severe hip and knee pain - am going to give it another try tomorrow but if it hurts then it will be back to just walking for a few weeks :/
Hope you all have a happy healthy week and reach your goals.
Great that you doing Dry January, and hope it's going well. I am sure that has helped - and many Congratulations for losing 2 pounds this week, that is a really great result!
Brilliant to hear you've shaken off the plantar fasciitis, and that you've re-started the C25K last night. But the fact you now have severe hip and knee pain is not good - really sorry to hear that! Do be careful - you don't want to injure yourself - better to repair and recuperate, but maybe an experienced runner will be able to advise you - I am not one of those, that's for certain! Walking is still great exercise, so take it easy.
Wishing you a great week ahead, and yes, here's to a "Happy Healthy Week' for everyone.
Hi everyone. Last week was my first weigh-in. I have to say that I hope this week will be better. The thing is that I got a bad cold and the medication I was given gave me allergy and got bloated and in one day put on 3 kilos. I've lost 2, but still have one kilo extra. So, I'll come back next Monday hopefully with less weight and healthier.
So sorry to hear you're suffering with a bad cold, and that the medication has caused you to suffer further with some bloating - that is really uncomfortable and horrible. Glad you've already lost a couple of those 'bloating kilos' and hopefully the third one will go away again soon - just look after yourself and keep hydrated and warm - your health is the most important thing.
Hopefully you'll be feeling much better next week.
Sorry to hear that an allergic reaction to the medication has resulted in a 1kg gain Alejandra and really hope that you will lose that and more, by next week. Good luck!
Checking in with a 3lb loss this week. I had relatively healthy meals, except for Thursday due to illness. Snacking was a big problem, but we now have no more Christmas chocolate or biscuits in the house. Should be a bit easier to resist bad snack from here on.
I hope you're feeling better after your illness on Thursday. Great to hear you have enjoyed some relatively healthy meals, and it's good to hear there are no more Christmas chocolate or biscuits in the house, as that should definitely help you to cope better.
Congratulations on losing 3 pounds, that is a really great result.
That is a really great result, Congratulations on losing 2.25 pounds this week. I agree with you 'not bad going' at all - infact really really great!!! I hope you enjoyed your week.
Well after a difficult period it's time to get back on track. I was 78 kilos this morning but visited the dietician and there I was 4 kilos lighter than the last time I went. She doesn't know that I had dropped to 74 so I am being a bit sneaky there!
Next goal is back down to 75 kilos. Watch this space because it is going to happen. Sending lots of positive vibes to all of you for a succesful week.
Morning Lowcal, morning ROTFF and everyone else, woohoo Lowcal - good weight loss! Reading everyone's posts is a great way to cheer up a filthy wet, grey morning. A special well done to everyone who's made the decision to tackle their weight this year and joined this forum - you won't regret it!!
Last week I weighed 16.12.4, this morning I weigh 16.9.0, so shed 3 1/4 lbs and almost all the cruise weight gain, so pretty happy with that, especially as I've done NO exercise and at the start of the week was eating lots of naughty stuff. It was like I couldn't stop - I am firmly convinced that sugar and fat are addictive. I gave in to a few treats on holiday and my body has been going "Gimmee, gimmee" ever since. Had to have a VERY stern word with my gremlin and have been doing better since Friday.
Hope we all manage to stuff our gremlins in an (empty) cupboard this week. Stay warm and well everyone.
Hello everyone. I've just started here. I'm in Overweight category With A BMI of over 28. I'm now 12 12/13 (my scales is not very accurate ) having clocked in at 13 a week earlier.
I really like the notion of the 12 week plan as there are no gimmicks, and I continue eating the food I like. (And really like food and cooking I'm afraid ).
I was motivated to do something more focused to lose weight as I was diagnosed with cancer last year. While the treatment was successful I want to do my best to make sure it doesn't come back.
I'm aiming to get to a healthy BMI and lose 2 stone by about May.
It's great that you've decided to join us. May I suggest that you treat yourself to a new set of digital weighing scales. They don't cost the earth, but they do make weighing yourself a lot more accurate. If your scales have a difference of 3lbs, that could be 3 weeks weight loss and quite demoralising. I haven't spoken to you before, so wanted you to have this. It contains lots of tips to get you started on your journey
Liking food and cooking, are not bad thing, but great for healthy eating. There are lots of us who enjoy experimenting with new food and you'll find many recipe ideas on the forum. We'll look forward to hearing about yours
Have a great 1st week and try and come up with some mini goals to reach, which will eventually get you to your final goal
I think it is especially challenging when you've still got Xmas food lurking around. A pound can easily creep back on in those circumstances, but hopefully you'll have a good week ahead, and can begin to lose weight again to get back into the healthy BMI. You're very close to it!
I think it's sensible to look again at the NHS 12 week plan, as hopefully it will help to refresh your mind and thoughts about the tips and suggestions there.
You said 'Well done all your posers, posers can be winners too' - did you mean to say 'posters' rather than 'posers'? They mean quite different things, so just wanted to ask.
I hope you have a great week ahead, and I hope the Xmas foods will soon be gone - maybe freeze some of them so you don't have too many temptations in your path.
Yes, I have had one of those weeks before, infact a few over the past few years, and it is frustrating when that happens - you've been doing lots of positive things, and you were hoping for a loss, and then 1.25 pounds somehow popped up on your scales.
Please don't let it put you off, keep focused and determined, and just start this week 'afresh' - put it behind you and re-focus on your goals.
Hopefully the weight loss will 'catch up' and be shown on your scales next week, and you might see a larger loss as a result. I really hope so!
Maybe your measurements have changed - I don't know if you take those, but sometimes changes can show on the body measurements and not on the scales - but equally sometimes we just have those weeks when it doesn't show on either indicator.
Don't let it get you down.
Wishing you a great week ahead.
Lowcal
Hello!
I'm Stephlisa (or just Steph). I started my weight loss journey last week, but this my first week posting here. I've started by changing my diet and exercising more. My weekly exercise now involves Couch to 5k, Strength and Flex, Morris dancing and walking.
I will be getting married in October so would like to feel slimmer for that!
My ultimate weightloss goals is to reach the middle of my healthy BMI range.
I'm 156cm tall (5'1 1/2") so the middle of my healthy range is 53kg (116lb).
My other ultimate goal is to make a healthy lifestyle into a habit.
Last week I weighed 75.3kg (166lb)
This week I weighed 74.9kg (165lb) - so that's a 0.4kg (1lb) decrease. I'm happy with this for my first week.
Having been on this site a week I just wanted to thank everyone for being so supportive - it's really helping me with this lifestyle change!
A very warm welcome to you and thanks for joining us for this Monday group weigh-in. How lovely to hear you're getting married in October - many Congratulations, and that is such a brilliant occasion to work towards in terms of your weight loss goals. You've chosen a really good range of activities to help you achieve your fitness and activity goals - have you done Morris dancing before? It certainly looks like very energetic dancing, and will burn off some calories! Thanks for sharing your goals.
Brilliant that you've lost 1 pound this week, that is a great start!
Glad you're enjoying being on the forum so far, and that people have made you feel welcome - wishing you success with all your goals and here's to supporting you in your lifestyle changes.
I've been morris dancing for about 4 years now - its very energetic when you're out performing, but in practise sessions it can be much slower as you have to learn new dances slowly.
Its been four weeks since I posted my weight on the monday weigh-in (xmas holidays, inlaws and no scales). When I started this journey, I weighted 70.3 kg. Today I'm 66.8kg. I was slightly less last week, but that was before the weekend. Weekends are the hardest as I eat 3 meals with the whole family and find it much harder to curtail my food intake. My aim for this week is to get below 66kg. That would be just amazing....
Good luck to everyone who is struggling with me this week to keep away from calories. it really helps to know that I will have to post my weight each monday and your support. Keep the 'feeds' - that's the online ones, not the calorie-rich ones - coming...
Great to see you, and wishing you a Happy New Year, as I've not had chance to wish you that until now.
You've lost a total of 3.5 kg since the start of your weight loss journey - so that was over 4 weeks (as you started your weight loss journey then - that's right isn't it?), so I calculate that you've lost 0.875 kg per week (average), so I hope you're ok if we put you down for 0.875kg loss this week on our weekly stats? I always try to make it as easy as possible for Ruth to calculate the stats by doing a few little calculations along the way, as I know she has a big task at the end of the week to work it all out - and want to help her as much as possible with that.
I like your very positive post, and I agree - We can do this together.
Looking forward to seeing your weekly posts, you're on board with us again, and we're really happy to have you with us. You're making great progress - losing over the festive season is not an easy task! You're doing really well.
Hi Lowcal, well done on the loss and well done to everyone else. A gain or a loss, your still on here recording which means your focused. I weighed in at 11st 13lb last week. I am 11st 12lb this week = 1lb loss.Would have liked more but I suppose a loss is a loss. Good luck next week everyone.
You're right, to post here each week, regardless of what the result is, means we're all staying accountable and focused. I am very pleased to hear you've had a loss on the scales this week, and Congratulations on losing 1 pound, that is great! I know you were hoping for a bit more, but it really is a good loss - so please do celebrate it. Just imagine it sitting there in the form of butter or lard, and you'll be able to appreciate what that means to have lost that. Well done!
Wishing you another great week ahead.
Lowcal
Hi Lowcal,
Fab result, you must be feeling so good, you'll shift the rest no bother😃 This Xmas lark has caused some extra work eh !! lol
Thanks so much! I wish I could have your confidence that I'll shift the rest no bother - but I'll certainly try to do so!!!! Thanks so much for your continued support and encouragement. I find it invaluable, and I will be looking out for your weekly update post to do the same for you.
This Xmas lark - it does cause us extra work - you're right!
Yes, catch you later on our trip - love the shades!
Was 85.3kg. Today 85.2kg. Not the New Year start that I was hoping for. I've been unwell this week, so no exercise, and hubby has been doing all the shopping and cooking. I'll probably be taking it easy next week as well but it will be all systems go after that I hope. Looking on the bright side I've had no problem with sticking to a dry January and my weight hasn't gone up.
Firstly, I am sorry to hear that you've been unwell - but it's good to hear that you've been resting to help yourself recuperate, and that your hubby has been trying to help you out with the shopping and cooking etc. Sensible to take it easy next week as well, but hopefully you'll be fighting fit again next week, and like you say, all systems can go after that!
You've lost 0.3kg this week. Just think what you can do when you're back to good health. Just recuperate and get well.
Great that you're doing the Dry January, and hope you feel better really soon.
Hi, today is start of week two and have lost 3lbs. Was 14st 7 at start now at 14st 3lb, gasped in surprise. So pleased as have been slowly gaining for last six months so great to see a drop. Writing down the my slip ups on the weekly chart is helping as look back and think did I really need that biscuit etc. Keep up the good work all 😀
Congratulations to you for losing 4 pounds (amended this from 3 pounds, due to Moreless spotting you've actually lost 4 pounds and not 3!) this week, that is a really great result! You're at the lower end of the 14's now. Glad you're pleased with your progress, and that you've reduced the upward trend you'd noticed in the last 6 months.
Great that you're making good use of the weekly chart - tracking definitely helps.
Wishing you another great week ahead. Onwards and downwards.
Hi Dorris, forgive me if I'm wrong, but I'd hate to see you diddle yourself out of a pound, but according to my fingers, the difference between 14st 7lbs and 14st 3lbs, is 4lbs!
Well spotted Moreless! You have an eagle eye - I think I am slipping!
Hi ;-)! Thank you to all who are fighting their weight! I am at the moment with 91,9kg and watching carefully what I am up to. At the moment my weight is reducing again, I didn't have the stamina to keep my 5:2 diet up, though it was very successfull! Will see what kind of determination I develop at the moment....
Blessed success for all who are fighting and having the drive to keep going...
Great to hear your weight is reducing again, and that you're 91.9kg currently. Glad to hear you found success on the 5:2 diet, it sounds like it worked well for you. I know you said you didn't have the stamina to keep it up, but at least you did find some success from it.
Focusing carefully on things is really good, and I wish you another great week ahead.
Here's to a good drive to keep going for all of us.
Hi, this is week 2 finding it tough to get some exercise into a packed schedule but as long as I start early I'm good - find it impossible to work out after so I have to keep at it these early starts
Was good last week didn't overeat but did graze quiet a lot on Sunday - nothing major. I weighed 14st 3lbs and have got it to 13st 8lbs this week.
First week is normally good for me, I fall off at socials and have a party this sunday which I'm dreading and a wedding the week after.
Hoping to lose 2-3lbs this week, i think a lot is water atm.
Beyond belief indeed: I clearly can't read the scales! My actual weight for the week was 13st 10lbs, for some reason id counted 10lbs in a stone (wishful thinking) so half a stone off this week. That doesnt make me feel terribly motivated as I know I can easily put more than half a stone on in a week but definitely the right way forward; here's hoping!
That still makes a loss of 6 pounds this week, and that should definitely be celebrated. I know you have experience of putting on more than half a stone in a week, but hopefully you won't be doing that from now on - all being well. Or at least it will be a rarer occasion than before, if you stick with the NHS 12 week plan and the principles of that. Having the support of the forum should hopefully help too - some people come here when they are facing temptations to overeat for example and discuss this with other people around and about in the forum, and it can really help to change things.
So I'm glad you finished your post with the words 'here's hoping' as that is a positive phrase and you are making excellent progress in the right direction, and I wish you a really good week ahead.
You have the party to contend with on Sunday, so maybe think of a plan of action to help you to cope with that - i.e. how much food will you allow yourself on the plate - what kinds of foods will you choose, what drink might you have - some pre-planning can definitely help on those occasions.
Hope you enjoy the party but that you remain in control of whatever plan you choose to help get you through it, so that you enjoy what you choose to have during that occasion, and don't end up overeating or over drinking.
Good morning everyone and congratulations to everyone who lost this week and commiserations to those who gained.
I have lost 3lbs this week, which brings me into the 15stone range (15.11) and very close to being out of the 100Kg range. My next goal is to be under 100Kg and then below 15.7.
Keep up the good work, everyone and thanks to the Fab 5 team for your dedication to this thread!
First time just weighed in at 11st 2lb ... way over what I was, so Im looking forward to dropping some pounds. I think i will feel much better and get some lost energy back.
Lowcal well done for busting the christmas weight gain.
I gained a kilo last week up to 91.2 kgs. I have losing and gaining the same kilo for about 8 weeks now. Measurements the same.
I have been feeling very stalled with weight loss (none for two months), a little bit stale on fitness gains and truly fed up of rain: so I took the whole week off meal planning, watching everything carefully - the first time off since May and my usual fitness sessions. In fact I ate fairly normally, tried out basket ball, went for some quite long walks on my recovering leg. I have today and tomorrow off and intend to do some serious reflection and planning including trawling this site for fresh thinking.
There will be soup. There will be music. Everything else needs looking at.
Hi Gonti, they say a change is as good as a rest, so a complete rethink sounds like a great idea
Why not join us on our trip around the World, not only is it motivational, but it's a lot of fun and you may get some ideas to add variety and change into your exercise regime
Thank you for your inspiring post - I've decided to join!
I have been on my weight loss journey in one form or another for most of my life (I'm 60 now!) but I am now only 7 pounds off my goal. Last year was a significant one for me and although I don't feel as though I can say 'I've cracked it", I am definitely have a much better understanding myself and how to get my weight and lifestyle in balance.
So here is to the last part of the journey...no weight loss this week but my goal is to lose a pound each week until the end of February when I will be at my goal weight.
Hi Chrysallis, I'm delighted that you've joined us
I hope that you will be able to give us all some pointers, as a successful loser and soon to be maintainer
Well done you for cracking the weight loss code (almost), after so many years. You certainly deserve to lose those last 7lbs by the end of February and I'm excited that you'll be here and we'll be able to celebrate that momentous occasion with you
So, after one week of being really good and exercising daily I have dropped 1lb to. 12st 12lb. I was hoping for a bit more really as this is my first week, but at least it's in the right direction and I'm feeling motivated to keep going! Good luck to everyone for the coming week.
Hi lowcal and all the team, well done Lowcal on your loss this week and you must be pleased to have got your Christmas weight off.
I have had a good first week back on healthy eating after Christmas, I have to say I feel so much better for it also having a dry January so that saves extra calories. Last week I weighed 13.4 lbs to day I weigh 13.1lbs so 3lb loss, very pleased, just 2lbs more to get me to pre Christmas weight. My goal is to get down to 12.7.This time last year I weighed 14.1 lbs and without the group I know I would have put it all back on.
I managed to walk the dog yesterday after straining my knee over Christmas, not brilliant yet but at least hopefully it's on the mend, not as painful as it was and no worse after my walk yesterday. I do think the walking helps with your weight loss, especially when you are retired, all too easy to become a couch potato.
Good Luck to everyone, here's to another good week.
Just completed my first week and have lost 3lbs I haven't found it difficult, well not really, and have even had a chocolate each day from the dairy milk box that I had for Christmas. So 9 stone 11 and 3/4 lbs today. Well done everyone who has lost a bit
Congratulations for your 3lbs lost Caroline, what a great 1st week. I'm really pleased you didn't find it too tough and that you were even able to factor in some chocs
I have decided to join the weigh in today. Just a few notes about me: my name is Sandra, I am 23 yrs old, and I started making a few 'adjustments' on the 13th of December 2015. My initial weight (the heaviest I've ever been) was 14st 02lbs. (89kg)
Today I have weighed myself and the result was 12st 10lbs. (81kg)
Good luck everyone, this is such a helpful and inspiring place! Have a lovely week!!
Congratulations on losing 1.5 pounds this week, and that means you're into the 12's, so many Congratulations on making that transition. I hope to join you in the 12's one day myself.
You've done really well, and I hope you have another great week ahead.
Holy Moly Bo! That's a phenomenal weight loss! WTG you!
Between you and me Bo, this site is really quite basic and currently unfit for purpose. We have put in a request to the IT people, to at least upgrade the site enough to accommodate the number of people this thread holds, as at the moment, it isn't even able to do that. Whether there will be further improvements to the design, or user friendliness, remains to be seen.
I shall be very interested to see what this week yields for you Bo
Further to what Moreless has said, I would suggest that if you'd like to share a photo or picture, then just do a separate 'post' because then you can share it that way - speaking personally, I enjoy seeing photos within the posts, it is very inspiring, so do remember you can share them that way, if you want to.
Congratulations on a very good first week result. Hope you enjoyed the week.
Contacted IT help desk who confirmed that when replying to a post it is not possible to add a picture, but they would take on board the idea at the next review of the forum!!!!!!!.
Perhaps we should get everyone to submit their ideas of how to improve the forum, thin it down to say best five and then submit a petition signed by as many as we can get
Gracie1985 has posted a link to a couple of photos of food that she wanted to share with us within today's thread, so maybe that's another possibility if you had a particular picture you'd like people within the thread to see?
Good idea re: submitting ideas - not sure who would like to collate the ideas though - I don't really want to volunteer for that role, as I already have quite a lot on my plate, but it is a good idea!
Hi lowcal, first week and am finding my feet. Found calorie counting a little time consuming and didn't worry too much about counting my veg and in fact did a lot of estimates. However the main changes I have made is drinking more water and not grazing at night. I have a long journey and my starting weight was 21st 5lbs, however this week I am now 21st 4lbs. Back at work this week doing shifts so will have to be slightly more organised.
Congrats on your 1lb loss!! That's fantastic you should sound more positive!! Losing one pound on your first week is fab, it shows you are going in the right direction, and you are well on track for your journey. Whenever I use to report "just a one pound loss" I used to sound so miserable but after the weeks went by I understood with hindsight (and the help of the other forumites!) that this was a great result and it IS a great pace at which to lose weight. So off you go and congrats again!! I have lost 28 pounds in now eighteen weeks and those 18 weeks just flew by, honestly. And still the change is very noticeable. So believe in yourself and you will achieve your goals, hopefully.
I have to admit Ked, that when I first started, I didn't need to be too strict with my calorie counting, because I had so much to lose. However, you do need to get an idea in your mind of at least approximate calories and more importantly, portion sizes. I can almost guarantee that, like most of us, your portion sizes are completely off the mark
Estimating is a perfectly valid approach to calorie counting. Just remember with veg that there's more calories in things which grow underground, i.e. root veg, potatoes etc. as well as a few that grow above ground e.g. squashes. So it's worth being absolutely sure of those. But most of my calorie counting is based on guestimates - it's about what works for you
Well done on the loss Lowcal! I haven't seen a loss like that for myself in a long time! Its mostly just been going up and up! Congratulations though!
These Mondays seem to come around far too quickly! Especially when you have a weight loss deadline looming! I'm down to 23 weeks now until the wedding. Still time to do something about this bulge though.
This mornings weigh in has dropped me down to 13st 2lbs so that's a loss of 0.4 lbs from last week. Its a bit on the small side, but a loss is still a loss!
I am feeling extra determined to get back into things this week. Still 3lbs to lose to get back to my pre Christmas weight though. I'm hoping to lose 2lbs of that this week.
I have pre planned my breakfast, lunch and dinner meals all for this week and intend to do 4 days of exercise this week. That's my goal and I'm sticking to it! fingers crossed!
Here's to a good week for everyone! Hopefully see lots of losers next week!
Well done Lowcal and everyone else for l loosing weight this week! At least someone is! I am just jealous the truth is you all worked hard and deserve it! I was stuck at home due to a very bad cold. Was too weak to get out and even go to the local supermarket so no exercise last week. At least I did not gain weight. This morning I kept jumping on and off the scales to see if it went down but no such luck. Never mind! I guess the past is the past and I am starting a fresh clean sleet of paper this week. Last night I went swimming and it was fun!
Hopefully next week the scales will like me! At least this week I m feeling so much better and back to my exercise plus eating healthy.
I am scared of you and better go out now for my walk even if it is drizzling and cold! I keep hearing you telling me to move on and stop sitting on going on the web just move my legs and arms. No more time for being lazy!
After I posted I saw that you also maintained bt the nice feeling is that our tummy is going smaller!
Sorry mooreless I meant it only in a good way as you and Lizzy are so busy with the 80 days challenge that I felt I had to run out an do some exercise! Please forgive me!
Congratulations on your loss this week and on having shifted your slight holiday gain so quickly!! I am very happy for you and I have also looked at your spiraliser recipe over the weekend and getting inspiration from that! Thanks a lot!
This morning I was weighing 75.2 kgs which means I have lost 4 pounds compared to last week! I am so surprised because I have been keeping very close or just a little above my 1400 calories per day and one day I even had 1600. And I have not even ran as much as I wanted. But I did go on the bike three times. I am absolutely loving my early morning rides, I get such a kick from it, it's fantastic really. This morning I made sure I went on the bike before my weighing to follow a tip given by Moreless lol!
It's the first time I am losing so much in one week I cannot really explain how or why I will look back at my stats on My Fitness Pal check what I did lol. But then for next week I am not expecting the same, so that it avrages out for this week. It's funny how now losing more weight than the 1 or 2 pounds off worries me!! I feel like I want to be sure I lose slowly, so that I can keep it off forever.
I have had my second driving lesson today and I soooooo think I can do it now!! I am so confident it is crazy. Just fastening my seat belt quickly and easily (which I was struggling to do when I was obese) has given me so much confidence!! My BMI is 26.6 now, I have 5 more kg to shift before entering the top range of my healthy BMI range.
When I started in September I was at 32+!! So happy!!
Thanks again to everyone for the motivation , support , and help!! At no point in this journey have I felt I was on my own. Thank you all so much for everything especially Lowcal with this weekly endeavour, it's really fab, I'm glad that keeping it going is one of your resolutions!!
Yayy thank you so much yes I can do that!!! I'm already excited!! I will try to gather my stats since 28 Dec, I have them on my Fitbit! (number of km walked but I will try to assess what I am riding and swimming too!!) Thank you sooooo much moreless!
Hi lowcal what a great loss 2.6 lbs i hope you had a nice weekend. Last wk i weighed 16st 4ozs this week i weigh 15st 13lb 8ozs not as good as i hoped, the scales gave me 3 diff weights i went for the highest i think i need to buy new scales lol good luck to everybody xx
I would definitely suggest you get new scales rosie, because you could be selling yourself short! You've still lost at least 12ozs though, which is no bad thing
Hopefully you'll have made your purchase by next week and we'll see a fantastic number
Thank you moreless lol my first weigh in i was 15st 11 then 15st 12oz 4 then lastly 15st 13lb 8ozs. I thought I'd best pick the highest lol and hope for a good loss next week xx
My second week here (one of the 58 newbies last week). Last week I weighed 17st 2lb and this week I weigh 16st 11lb making 5lb off in my first week. I am elated and slightly surprised as I had a few bits of Xmas cake and chocolate to finish off - but counted the calories and had small amounts as an evening treat!
I've found having a fortnightly plan of meals *really* essential. My husband and daughters (aged 8-11yrs) are enjoying the changes in our evening meals and saying things like "We haven't had this in *ages*" and "This is delicious and so healthy".
I think my head is in the right place and I can do it this time. Fingers crossed x x x
Hello everyone I am new to your weigh in group, but I thought I would give it a go. I need to lose about 5 and a half stone as my weigh is effecting my health especially my lower back. I also have asthma which doesn't help. my back has been quite bad over the last week, restricting my activity, but by just watching what I eat I have managed to lose a pound, so I am happy with that. Have a great week everyone.
You haven't given a starting weight, but that's perfectly fine, there's no pressure to do so
Well done for losing a pound already, that's a great start, but so sorry to hear that your back's been bad this past week. I'm sure that losing some weight will make you feel so much better.
Looking forward to hearing how you've got on this week
sorry my start weight is 14.8lb, I was not sure if I had actually joined the monday weigh in group, not being too good with computers. Anyway thanks for your support and have a great week.
Thanks, we'll record you start weight as 14 stone 8 pounds. Hope that felt ok to share your weight, and I'm so sorry to hear you've been suffering with your back this week - hope you feel more comfortable as the week progresses.
Wishing you a great first week, and can I also echo what Moreless said, and Congratulate you on losing 1 pound this week.
It's great that you're looking forward to it. Should be good!
Lowcal
Hello!
This is my first official weigh in (as I got in a muddle with my days last week!)
My starting weight was 11st 7lb on 27th December, today I am 11st 1.5lb which is a loss of 1.5lb this week. I have been following a calorie controlled diet based on the number of calories the NHS website advised me.
To get to a healthy BMI I need to be 10st 11lb, but ideally I would like to get to 10st 7lb and see how my body looks then!
So far I have not done any exercise but I am hoping to start that up again this week and have ordered a fitbit to help with motivation
A very warm welcome - hope you are feeling less muddled about your days this week. Congratulations on losing 1.5 pounds this week, that is excellent!
Good luck with your aims to start some exercise this week, and hope your fitbit arrives soon to help with motivation.
Hope you've had an enjoyable week, and thanks for sharing your goals. You're getting close to the 10's - that's very exciting! Hopefully you'll be there very soon.
Are we to take 11st 1.5lbs as your starting weight, or 11st 3lbs and record you as having a 1.5lb loss? I'm afraid I would need to defer to Lowcal, or Ruth for the answer to that
Whichever it is, you only have 4.5lbs to lose to reach your healthy BMI, which is really exciting
I'm excited to hear about your new fitbit, that's the perfect gadget to own if you embark on Lizzy's exercise challenge, Around the World in 80 days
I'm just responding to you again just now, as Moreless has told me she's not been able to access the site, and she wanted to reply to your last post about confirming your starting weight - there are sometimes glitches when the thread gets quite big, and unfortunately poor Moreless is struggling - anyway, I am just responding to let you know that we'll put 11 stone 3 pounds as your starting weight - many thanks for sharing that.
Today I'm 23,05. That's a very disappointing 5lb gain!
I woke very early on Thursday morning, with an incredible amount of pain in my low back and was unable to stand upright. I was previously briskly walking 1 mile 3 times a day. I'm now on day 5 where I have been unable to leave the house, so following today's disastrous weigh in I think I may have to fast for a day or 2.
Hopefully I will be able to get out for a brisk walk later!
FFUDON, I can understand your disappointment at a 5lb gain, but you are NOT letting anyone down. By all means re-evaluate your diet, ie possibly reduce your calories a little, or change what you eat a little, but I'm not an advocator of fasting for a couple of days.
Maybe a stroll would be better than a brisk walk, as you've been suffering with your back this week.
Don't get despondent, you've been doing so well and this is just a minor blip in a previously flawless weight loss record
Please don't feel you need to fast for a day or two, it sounds like you've had a tough week with that pain you experienced in your lower back on Thursday. I am so sorry to hear you had that experience. It must have been quite frightening. Please do rest and recuperate - and maybe get yourself checked over by your GP - they may be able to offer something to help, and advise you on the best course of action etc.
You've been making excellent progress to date with your weight, so don't let this week put you off - yes, you've gained 5 pounds, but you've had a really difficult and stressful week.
Please look after yourself and eat healthy nutritious meals, and ensure you don't push yourself too far - you need to recuperate and get better.
Challenge that thought that you're letting anyone down - you most certainly are not - we are all in this together, and we are behind you, alongside you, and also infront as well - i.e. all around you, and we'll help you through this.
Wishing you a good week ahead. Hope you feel better soon.
You are certainly not letting anyone down when you have gained due to an injury. I suffered a back injury over Christmas and I know how debilitating it is.
Please don't fast for a day or 2 as it will not do your body any good, and I agree with moreless that you should maybe try a gently walk first.
Good luck with the weekend ahead, keep your chin up and I really hope your back feels better again soon. x
I am so sorry to hear you've gained 1.6 pounds, as I remember your post over the weekend where you mentioned that you were gaining, and we advised you to stick with things and hopefully see a loss on the scales today. I can understand it is frustrating not to see that, but I would still say, stick it out, because you have been doing lots of exercise on your Around the World in 80 days challenge - and maybe you are carrying some water weight due to the extra work going on in your muscles etc?
You have said yourself that you've been so good this week, so I would still stick with my belief that you should carry on as you are and just wait for the weight loss to 'catch up' regarding showing itself on your scales.
Wishing you a great week - and hope lots of people are joining you in the Around the World in 80 Days Challenge, as it is such a fun and motivating challenge to be part of. I love it!
Have a great week Lizzy, and change those unhappy faces to happy smiling ones - you've got to smile when you're on such a great Adventure.
Seriously, do stick with it. The danger is to relapse into unhealthy habits if a despondent mood sets in - so do try to keep positive Lizzy. Moreless will cheer you up - I have no doubt she can do it if we fail.
Hi flavour fiend - sounds to me like you are doing very well - sustained weight loss - and not to shabby over the xmas period either. Well done.
Marmalade making - I love to make my own marmalade - but have passed this year - as still have plenty from last year- despite giving away loads of jars.
Keep at it - make a small goal- maybe to get to 105kg - makes it more manageable than thinking about the big picture
Thanks. Yeah, quite happy with that. After the hols, I can now get my head back in "serious" mode.
Marmalade is probably my biggest vice at the moment. So much better than the insipid commercial stuff, isn't it? With the homemade, at least, a little goes a long way.
My next objective is to be able to wear a certain pair of trousers. Another 5 kg will see me better-dressed! And 5 kg after that, back doing low-impact exercise, unless me knees complain. Not sure I'll make that marathon, though... ☺
Afternoon everyone. It's been a month since my last weigh-in and I did put on 1 kg over the festive period though not enough to worry me unduly as I'm still in the maintenance zone at 53 kg. I have however got used to eating cake again. Luckily the big Christmas cake I made is nearly finished now with help from the family, and the exercise classes have begun again, so I should be able to keep on track. Hope everyone has a great week!
hi Carolee - what a lovely place to be maintenance - with a 1kg gain and no worries - well done you.
The xmas cake gone is definitely symbolic in our house - i am not fussed - one slice for whole xmas season - but Mr SB insists on eating the whole lot --finally finished this week. It is just all those other xmas treats now
Thank you for your good wishes -Keep us posted it is always great to hear from maintainers - the holy grail for most of us
Afternoon! Wishing you a Very Happy New Year, as I've not seen you since before the New Year. We missed you, but hope you've had a wonderful Christmas and New Year. I think you did very well to only put on 1kg over Christmas. That is really good, and you've managed to stay well within your maintenance zone at 53kg.
You mentioned that you've got used to eating cake again - it is a delicious thing to have. I must admit I do still eat a slice of cake most days, but it's the one I bake myself and doesn't contain any sugar - just the natural dried fruits and seeds and stuff like that. Adapted from Ruth's cake recipe. It's full of oats too, which I like.
Sorry, shouldn't be reminding you of cake - I realise that, but I think it is possible to include it in your eating plan if it is something you want to do.
I think you're doing really well, and I hope you have another great week ahead.
I really should look into making sugar-free cake. I don't have a big cake problem, but I do love rich fruit cake which I only make at Christmas. Including seeds sounds like a great idea as they can contain some good minerals (can't remember what off the top of my head). Hubbies's angling for a simnel cake for Easter, perhaps it could be a healthier version.
If you'd like to see my version of the no added sugar fruit cake, it's in this thread that Lucca put together - look for my post within the thread that is towards the top of the thread, and there are also links there to Ruth's versions of the cake (which I personally think are healthier), but I have been making my version quite a lot lately as I love the ingredients. Sometimes I use wholemeal flour instead of ground almond and coconut flours - but using the mixture of almond and coconut is a really nice taste (at least I think so!).
Please could you press 'like' next to this post if you are experiencing any difficulties with the thread today - i.e. glitches or difficulty accessing it etc. It would be good to have feedback about how many people have had difficulty today. The Health Unlocked admin staff have reported our concerns to the IT staff, and so it would be helpful to know how things are going today.
I am aware that Moreless cannot access it at the moment, so if you're wondering where she's gone - she really hopes to be back when she can get back in.
Suzybenj is in the house now (i.e. active in the thread), and I'm just going to have a break - which is why I'm not here right now, but I'll be back later.
Remember - press 'like' by this post only to indicate if you are experiencing difficulty with this thread today.
So a loss of 0.6lbs for me. Looking forward to life getting back to normal next week. Still on holiday and definitely not focusing on my diet enough just now. Plenty exercise. Bought a book full of quick healthy meals so made a meal plan for the week, starting tomorrow, so hopefully that'll get me back into eating regularly again.
We could all do with a re-boot on healthy eating so well done you on the meal planning. I love to eat healthily - but seem to be going at it kicking and screaming at moment.....Whereas you RR are a natural and throwing in some exercise to boot:-).
Looking fwd to seeing what you can achieve when you 'focus'
Hi First week completed and i have lost 6lb. Have about 5 stone to loose so i guess the big loss due to water but as its a loss i dont care whats gone lol. I am following the NHS plan but am having slightly more calories as suggested by the fitness pal app and so far its ok. Hopefully 2016 will be the year that i finally get this weight thing under control !!
Well Es2015 - really well done - 6 pound is going some for one week- you quite sensibly recognise that this is not likely to continue (or advisable !!) but still a great start and very motivating.
I know it takes courage to start and continue with a weight loss programme - so full respect from me
So keep following the plan- there have been some fantastic losses on this site - literally stones lost over a period of time - and then sustained as folk maintain. I find it awe inspiring watching peoples progress week to week. I commend moreless, Gonti and Nussaybah and a couple of the chaps - they have kept at it and have results to prove it.
Good luck for next week- but if you stick to the plan - you won't need it
A well done on your loss this week Low Cal. I have kept to an average of 1200 calories each day, but can't exercise due to health problems. Last week 11st 6.4lbs, this week 11st 6.6lbs. I don't know why the small gain, but eating healthier has to be good (and a good habit for life). In one week I have lost an inch from my waist, so I will celebrate that and onward and downwards to all of us for next week.
Thank you i have been reading the threads on the site for a while and it really helped give me the motivation to get this done however long it takes : )
Sorry to be late this week I have reached my target I was aiming for all week . I lost 2.25 lb which takes me under 12stone yeees at 11.13.75 hooray I made it on Mums birthday, next target 11.7 for hubbys birthday 24th feb.. feeling great.many thanks for all motivation
Yes yes yes- clap hands and dancing on the spot for you. The holy grail of the 12 st milestone is mine too - so hard won - but big congratulations. You will be my inspiration for this week - to get closer to 12 st...my mantra will be 'Skinny lizzie did it....so can I' -
So a month and bit for another half stone (or 6 pound .75 onces to be precise )- YOU CAN DO IT !! (I am saying that to myself too - but more in a whisper)
So good luck for next week- way to go skinny lizzie
Hi Lowcal, fab loss for you this week, you will be banishing the extra tiny bit of Christmas weight in no time, not much left to go now!
I lost 3 pounds this week, which takes me half a pound lower than my pre-Christmas weight, so I'm very glad to have got back to where I should be. I'm glad to be able to say (again) that I have now lost 2 stone (& 4 pounds!) in total.
For my loss this week, I have to give huge credit to the good folk of this forum for helping me avoid stress eating and a potential "shortbread-gate". Thank you, thank you, thank you for being there in my hour of need!
Well, the day has slipped away from me so fast, I have to think about making dinner soon so just want to say congrats/commiserations to everyone, depending on how this particular week of your journey went. Onwards and downwards!
How very pleasing weight warrior - not only xmas baggage gone - but an extra half pound too. And you avoided 'shortbread-gate' - great use of the support here. ( I need it for 'marzipan fruit- gate' - box open and beckoning me).
Completely fantastic overall weight loss- really well done - I often point people to your thread (and others)for extra inspiration for the newbies and folk who have lost their way.
feeling low- ive tried hard this week to stick between my calories although not necessarily eating the right food and this week all ive lost is 200g 0.2kg how pathetic all that effort for that!!
so this next week im going to look at what i use my calories for and hope that my weight goes down! I have officially lost 10kg and would like to lose another 8kg in 8 weeks so we shall see
Wood05 - I am sorry you are low---particularly when you have so much to be pleased about.
So in my books half a pound is pretty good going (I know frustrating that it is not more - but that sometimes that is the way it goes). And the perspective is - overall loss - 22 pounds ( 1and half stone ) - do not lose sight of that - it is an amazing achievement.
On the food front -check out NHS choices on healthy eating- I often find eating fresh veg with my meal - often not cooked at all - helps to get things moving - ( favourite is small amount of cooked cous cous - with chopped up pepper, spring onion olives and grated carrot) -but the advise is small loss week to week and it all adds up in the end. Also do you exercise - ??? i am currently stuck to walking but no great distance - but still a quick 30 mins every other day is good for me.
Chin up my friend -you have already been a massive success on the weight loss journey- BE PROUD!!
Woody do not despair, when we weigh in it depends in bowel movements water and all sorts so if you are confident that you are eating the right amount and don't fall of the bus it will start to show, there are very few of us that have not plateaued in our journey the key is not to give up, have a good week and keep going 😬
Thanks suzybenj, it feels great to be back on track again 😀 Fingers crossed for anything over 1lb for both of us next week. Glad my name makes you smile, a friend at school once called me nickynoo and it stuck 😀 Good luck yourself.
F2F - well done a pound loss - scales going the right way - you would have been a 'plodder' if it had gone the other way
But yes v satisfying to be able to pull belt in another notch- my husband proudly shows me the faded worn lines of previous notches.
So carry on you loser Good luck for next week
Today I weighed 89 kilos. My mini goal is to weigh about 84 to weigh less than my husband. My long term goal is unclear at the moment but I am a long way off that.
Good evening AM - so you have your husbands weight in your sights- me too!! He now weighs a stone lighter than me - I am determined to catch him up. The rotter decided to go on a diet the same time as me - to my half stone he has lost a stone.....
But i have a whole series of mini goals on the way - loss 5% and 10% of total starting weight. Crashing through the 12 st barrier- fitting into clothes that fit me when i was a stone lighter. So ages to go to yet - before i get near the weight he is!
Stayed on track for calories and have had more exercise than I've had in years. Scales said the same as last week 11.13. However, got the tape measure out and have lost 1" on the three key areas. Guess its shifting around!
I know Suzybenj is in the house currently, but just saw your reply, and I note that you were 12 stone 6.6 pounds last week, so if you weigh 12 stone 4 pounds today, then you've lost a whole 2.6 pounds, which is definitely not small, but is a very substantial amount, and I would like to Congratulate you on that great result!
Congratulations on your weight loss this week. At my last weigh in I was 12st 7 and today I weighed 12st 3 - a 4lb loss. I am really pleased with this loss as it brings me down below my pre Christmas weight and I don't think I've lost so much in one week before. I have been very strict with myself calorie wise and have tried to up my steps along with trying to fit in 10 minutes on my exercise bike. I am hoping to keep my motivation levels the same this week as I'd like to be below 12 st for the end of the month when I'm going away for a couple of nights.
I am about to read the thread and hope everyone else has had a good week and will have another great great ahead.
Well done Tinkle 72 - a four pound loss is a bumper week - clearly doing something right:-).
You and and i are on the same 12 st quest -Skinny Lizzie crashed through 12 stone week- with some determination we won't be far behind.
I am going for two pounds for next week.
What ever you are doing - keep doing it
Good luck
Well done all for your weight loss! Last week I weighed 23st 10.5 lbs. At my last weigh in, I weighed 23st 10.25lbs. So I lost a 1/4lb. Hope I have better results next week!
Thought I had replied but it does not seem to of posted.
Lost 0.4 kg but this was expected as I had lost 3kg in the 4 days prior to my first weigh in. So still feeling positive. Looking for 1 kg loss this week.
Well done to all the massive chievemnts that I have read about today
Hi all! i am 39, 5ft 1", female, tonight 9pm weighing in at 9st 13 lbs. My realistic ideal target weight is 8st 7lbs. However, I think 8st 3lbs, would be heaven again. i don't count calories but i am more aware of food being fuel and benefiting my whole body. I have been comfort eating and not exercise for roughly 5 years. I used to be a size 8 and exercise and not comfort eat. Before the summer i was around 11st. Before Christmas i began walking (with bursts of running) with my dog. I plan to do this everyday, from today, for a minimum of 30 minutes. The vet said he was fat, and i know i am, so onwards and upwards people!
Pleased with a loss of 2.2lb for my 1st week. Managed to keep within 1400-1600 cals during the week allowing myself a couple of treats on an evening from the remaining Christmas chocs! Started my efforts to exercise more regularly with a daily 20 min brisk walk with my Border Terrier. Increasing that to 30 mins this week. Swapped my usual breakfast of toast and butter for Grapefruit and Weetabix 4 days a week.
Good going pls1967- 2.2 pound loss very respectable and sustainable loss. getting out with your dog is good for the soul as well as weight loss
And swopping to a healthy breakfast a good strategy. I try hard to eat good calories. But i too am restricting myself with the xmas treat - once chocolate a day....
Hello, I am joining the monday weigh in for the first time. Weight last week was 105.8kg but I lost 0.7kg over the week. Weight today is 105.1kg. Still have a long way to go. 😢. Thanks
Well done lekpame and thank you for coming back- 0.7kg is a good weight loss -and sustainable. And we all have to start somewhere - the best bit is that you have started.
First weigh-in for me! I have been following the 12 week plan and its been going really wel! I nervously stepped on the scales this morning but was very happy to see I had
Lost 5lbs 3/4! I have a long way to go so fingers crossed this will keep me motivated!
F2bF - way to go you - I am sure stepping nervously on the scales makes it lighter
Anyhoo - well done that is fabaroonie. It is a great start and very motivating. concentrate on not undoing your hard work and fingers crossed for next week
Thanks Suzybenj! I agree, that's my aim for week 2, not undoing what I did this week! 😌
11/1/16
Evening everyone!
Today’s weight is 11st 6lb (that’s down 2lb on last week).
I’ve been busy decorating which, although it has not been clocking up with miles for Lizzy’s round the world challenge very successfully, does at least keep me well away from the biscuit tin / fridge etc! Also, I’m up and down that darned ladder every 30 seconds...
So this week’s favourite bit is ... little drum roll here I think.....
this morning I tucked my decorating top into my decorating jeans as it was more comfy. Amazing I never tuck anything in – prefer a veil to be swept over these regions! And last week I don’t think it would have been tuckinable either. I’ll leave you with the vision of me bored out of my mind, up a step ladder dressed with my paintbrush, dressed in my extremely elegant (but tucked-in!) painting attire.
Have a happy week everyone. Thanks for another fun week of chat and support – you’re all great, keep going!
Running soon - go you. that is a great loss. but more importantly the confidence to wear clothes in a way that you would not normally do - i look forward to those happy days sometime in the future.
Happy painting - bored and all - look fwd to catching up with you next week -hopefully a lighter version
Hi my first weigh in on here, ive lost 1lb ☺ this week. Ive started properly today so hopefully i will keep losing. I need to lose 2stone for my health. Well done everyone that lost or stayed the same.
Thanks Suzybenj and well done for losing half a stone 😊
Hi ive had some trouble posting so it may appear 3 times! My first weigh in at 11st 11lbs. I need to lose 2 stone for my health but every loss will help!
Don't worry, we're still here! Still open for late night weighers! It's great to see you!
You've shared your weight today, and I know you've still got some way to go to shift the Christmas over indulgences, but hope that they will soon be gone, and that your path is onwards and downwards. I'm not sure when you last weighed in - have you got a comparison weight for last week so we know how this week has been for you? I don't seem to have a note of it, so apologies if you've weighed-in last week and I didn't note it! There are so many people in our thread now, and my memory isn't what it used to be!
hi I didn't weigh in (here) last week, but did get weighed and was 19st 5.5lbs so going in the right direction but as you said, still some more to go to hit my pre-christmas weight.
Thanks for this (and very well done on your loss this week! excellent example to us all)
Checking in late from Vancouver. We are 8 hours behind the UK. I had a 1.8lb loss this week which I am happy with as not everyday was totally on track.
Congratulations to all of those who had a good loss this week, and for those who didn't lose well done for checking in anyway. The main thing is that we keep working at it and that we don't quit.
I have this as the wallpaper on my computer.
"The last time you failed did you stop because you failed, or did you fail because you stopped". ~ Unknown,
Hi guys, I'm Helen and I have been doing the 12 week healthy eating plan for a week now, My starting weight was 12 st 4 pounds and after joining my local leisure centre and swimming nearly every day plus healthy eating I have lost 3 pounds in the first week oh and I also stopped smoking as well last week.
Helen - what a challenging and brave week. Great weightloss - 3 pounds off - you very close to 12 stone. And really well done in achieving that in the same week as stopping smoking.
I have lost 2.4 kilos!! This equates to my Christmas gain so very happy. Not expecting as big a loss next week but working towards 1kg. This site is a great inspiration. I'm going to double check that weight loss tomorrow as it seems a lot and I haven't been skipping meals. We'll see how we go.
I'm glad you like the forum, and great that you've joined us for this Monday group weigh-in. Congratulations on losing 2.4 kilos - that is a large amount of weight, and great to hear it equates to your Christmas gain - you've got it all off - that must feel good! Really well done.
Glad to hear you've not been skipping meals, it's far more sensible to eat regular meals and not go hungry. Keeps your blood sugar more stable that way.
Wishing you another great week ahead. Like you say, unlikely to lose as much next week, as weight loss tends to average out to smaller losses each week (1 - 2 pounds per week is more usual). Sorry to mix the pounds with the kg there - I tend to think in pounds.
It's about 12.15 (quarter past midnight) and I'm going to bed now. I've really enjoyed the thread today - as always, and thanks to everyone who has contributed. I'll be checking the site again at some point tomorrow, just incase there are any later weighers, but hopefully we've heard from most of you today - and it was really good fun - lots of inspiring results.
Remember, if you weren't happy with your result today, then please don't let it get you down, we all have some weeks which aren't as good as others, or challenges to face and get through, but basically we do get through, with one another's support, and hopefully next week will be better!
So onwards and downwards is hopefully our trend for the year - we will have a great year and work towards achieving our various goals and weight loss/healthy aspirations.
Great that you've survived your first week on the NHS 12 week plan, and that you're feeling great for it. Many Congratulations on such a great first week loss of 3.5 pounds, that is really good.
I also like Myfitnesspal, as it is a really useful app and so easy to use. Glad you're getting on well with it.
Enjoy week 2, and wishing you another great week ahead.
I only managed to lose 0.3kg so 81.8. Not great, but I found it hard not to absentmindedly snack. I did exercise everyday though. Will try harder this week.
Congratulations for losing 0.3 kg, that is a good result, and I know you'd like to have lost more, but at least you are aware that you were finding it difficult not to absentmindedly snack, and you can work on that part of things this week. Great that you exercised everyday, and hope you enjoyed that.
I find that pre-planning meals and also what snacks I'll allow myself often helps, because then it takes away that 'absentminded' aspect - and personally that makes me feel more in control of my food and drink intake. Whatever you do, I hope you find it beneficial.
Sorry I'm a day late but I weighed yesterday and I've lost 1lb, not as much as I thought I would in my first week but I also haven't been as disciplined as I should be either!!! Hopefully I will get myself on track. I am exercising for 30 mins each day but it's hard going at the moment. Fingers crossed it will get easier as time goes on!!!!!! I hope everyone has a good week xx
Glad you've joined us, and Congratulations on losing 1 pound this week. It's a good start, especially as you mentioned you'd not felt as disciplined as you should be - it takes time to adapt and get used to changes, and I hope you enjoyed the week. Great that you're exercising for 30 minutes per day, and I an can appreciate you're finding it hard going, but like you say, hopefully you'll find it easier as time goes on, and it becomes more part of your routine and lifestyle.
congrats on ur loss lowcal! and for everyone else on their loss too!
I had a bit of a blip last week, decided to eat all the chocs etc in the house, on a plus theres nothing left to tempt me tho I have put on 1lb this week - so sitting at 13:10lbs
Sometimes a blip is part of a week, and so I'm glad that it only resulted in a 1 pound gain for you, and not worse than that. You'll soon get that off again, providing you get back on track, and hopefully that should be much easier now all those tempting Christmas goodies are finished.
I too am late to the weigh in , had an awful sickness bug so havent been able to eat or drink properly so lost lots but not in a good way and think it will go back on when i can eat again, last week I was 17.7 half and today 17.0 three quarters, so I think it will rebalance just got to keep myself on track when my appetite is back !!
Good luck everyone for the new week ahead and big congrats on those losses!!
So sorry to hear you've been suffering from an awful sickness bug - that's horrible. I am sure you are right, that your weight will re-balance again once you're back to health again, and I really hope you feel much better really soon!
Wishing you a good week ahead, hopefully free from further sickness bugs.
I will weigh myself next mon to see where I am ,its annoying when these things throw us and it was my youngests birthday so I luckily didnt want to eat the cake but was difficult sitting with my bucket argh roll on next week!!! Thank you for your kind words xx
Hi everyone, im just starting Week 2, but have only just discovered this weigh-in group today. At the end of my first week (today as I started midweek) I managed to lose 3.25Ib which to be honest took me completely by surprise as I spent the majority of the week ill and in a hell of a lot of pain. So I havent been monitoring my food as I should have, but it's the start of a new week, and I hope to do better and feel better this week.
I myself have some pretty serious health issues which wont improve losing weight, but I might be able to cope better with the symptoms. Long term, i know I will need an operation, and I know that being lighter will be better for anaeshetic reasons and recovery as well.
My starting weight was 17st6.75Ib, and at weigh-in today I was 17st3.5Ib. I will join you guys at weigh-in on Monday, just bare in mind it wont be a full week for me. I like the idea of setting targets, and so my first target will be to reach 16st8Ib. I have a long way to go so I will be setting a number of goals along the way.
Really happy you decided to join us, and it will be great to have you with us on this onward journey. You have already made a great start, and once again, I'd like to Congratulate you on your progress to date, what a great start!
You've set your first target, and it's great that you'll be setting a number of goals along the way.
Look forward to catching up with you on Monday, and in the meantime, enjoy the remainder of this week.
I am just copying and pasting a post by a new joiner (Adheela), as she posted on the thread dated 4th January - so here is her post - I told her you'd be able to include her in the new joiners stats:
Adheela's post:
"Hi low cal, such a good post this. Hope this works. I have just signed up to the 12 week plan and am hoping it works. I have one more stone to lose. I have two young kids aged 3 and 1.5. Should really have that as an excuse but I do sometimes lol! I'm on mfp on 1200 cals but find it so hard to stick to. Hopefully this plan will be good. Am making my way through reading ur welcome info for new joiners"
I have mentioned to Adheela to look out for the next Monday group weigh-in thread on 18th January, which I'll be posting just before 7am.
Thanks lowcal, forgot to mention my weight 10st 6. I'm 5ft 3. I have printed off the weight loss Plan and have stuck on my fridge. I will try n report back on Monday. This website is slow and I have to scroll right down to get the recent posts (am still trying to get the hang of this).
Great, you're all set with your weight loss Plan stuck on your fridge. Thanks for adding your weight and height, and look forward to catching up with you on Monday.
If you would like to be notified of when I post the thread, then click on 'follow' and then my name - Lowcal - and you would automatically be notified of when I post it, but it's before 7am on Mondays so should be easy to spot.
