Morning Lizzy! Well done on the 35kms!
The car has too stopped me from walking haha
Spent Monday working on it, then Tuesday fixing what I broke on Monday lol Had the blasted MOT this week, anyway that's all done. Only got in 10km of walking by Friday. Wasn't going to reach the target, didn't even leave the house sat/sun. Diet was also terrible (but somehow maintained my weight?!)
Hoping for a more positive walking record this week.
Morning Lizzy
I missed my target this week, I managed 35.1 km. I always knew that it would be difficult to move away from my desk at work too much last week. Hopefully back to normality this week, although I have still got a mountain to climb to complete my kettlebell challenge on time. I'm going to try and push myself this week and set my target at 45 km. Have a good week.
You are doing so well, MrsG. Great to see you are pushing yourself again this week. Good luck
Hi Lizzy and co,
I'm afraid I didn't reach my target last week, because stupidly I forgot I was to have my grandchildren staying and they were less than impressed at pounding out the k's in howling gales and torrential rain
I managed 20k, which isn't too terrible considering.
My pedometer eventually arrived on Saturday and I was thrilled after waiting almost 3 weeks for it, however, hard as I tried, I couldn't get the thing to work. Yesterday, my OH sorted it out for me and measured my steps etc. Off we all went for a lovely walk together. I pressed the button on my new gismo and walked, for almost 2 hours. At the end, I was excited to see what I'd clocked up. My marvel of technology stated 51. 51k's??!! No, 51 calories, without my glasses, I'd set it to kcal, not kg!! Aarrgghh!! Even the calories burnt weren't correct, because I hadn't even entered in my vital statistics!
I've set the thing for steps now, but it's not very good inside the house, as it doesn't count the first 4 steps and switches off each time you stop. In a bungalow with a wall every 4 steps, it barely shows anything
Ah well, back to the drawing board
Good luck everyone
20km is fantastic considering the weather and having your grandchildren to stay. And the dodgy peddy!!
Hi I didn't achieve my goal of 45km last week, of which 15km running and 30km cycling. But having this thread in mind helped me achieve what I did!
Running - 12km (a 7k and a 5k)
Cycling - zilcho
I'm aiming to get back to 3 runs this week, and to cycle to work at least once, which should come to about 20km. Congrats everyone who at least got some way towards their goals, it all counts! Looking forward to the next installment of moreless's pedometer saga, hopefully it all works out in the end and moreless and the pedometer disappear off into the sunset hand in hand, full orchestra jubilantly serenading their long-awaited happy union
Well done with what you managed to achieve Ruth, I know it wasn't easy with the new job. I'm sure you'll get back on track with your running and cycling this week.
Peddy and I are heading out for a walk soon and as it's definitely getting cooler now, I'm thinking of knitting us matching hats
I'll let you know how we got on later
Tune in to the Peddy and Moreless saga!
Well, off we trundled for a regular 5k walk. The wind was blowing through our hair (screws), but Peddy was snuggly tucked up in the waist band of my trews. The OH, who has far superior eyesight, pressed all pertinent Peddy buttons to record distance. Across the car park, 0.03k, through the woods, 0.03k, up the cycle path, 0.03k, over the bridge, 0.03k, after a kilometre, 0.03k! Ok, so Peddy's distance recorder is naff, let's switch to steps, cos we know the length of each step, basic arithmetic to calculate distance. OH pressed Peddy's buttons again and off we went again. First look, 32 steps, yaaay, second look, 44 steps, woohoo we've cracked it, end of walk 44 steps! Arrival home after 5mile car journey, 251 steps!
Peddy, you're not my new bff, you're a useless piece of junk to be consigned to the dark recesses of the loft along with other "wonder" gadgets purchased in the quest for the body beautiful - the exercise ball which deflated and couldn't be reinflated, the roller wheel for smooth pushups that I over extended on and nearly broke my nose, the resistance rope thingy that broke the door handle, the exercise bike that compressed my coccyx and nearly gave me piles, the rowing machine that gave no warning when it collapsed in a sh*tty heap with me on top of it and numerous others.
I guess the universe is trying to tell me something, stick to the tried and tested like walking and leave the bodies beautiful to all the bright young things
Hi Moreless
I have just been on the receiving end of some very strange looks from my colleagues as I have tears streaming down my face and uncontrollable laughter at your post. I bet you're delighted that you waited 3 weeks to take delivery of your new 'useless' gadget!! Thank you so much for making me laugh, I'm not sure how many but doesn't laughing burn calories?
I hope you don't get too disillusioned and stick with the walking anyway, have a good week.
I'm quite sure that laughter is the best way to burn calories
I shall continue walking, but Peddy will be left at home
Wow, sorry about recommending that ped to you. Mine is still working fine, recorded 8351 steps yesterday! Maybe yours is different because it came from china? hah
Glad to hear that our thread helped you to keep you focused. Did the same for me towards the end of the week - couldn't let the side down!
Good luck for this week!
:):)
I had a blow out yesterday and have came across this group and want to start my weight loss today but am afraid to weigh self today
Can I weigh in tomorrow ?
Hi Bonni and welcome,
You need to post on the thread entitled "Please join us for a Monday group weigh-in".
There's no pressure to announce your starting weight if you don't want to, but a lot of us do because we wish to be accountable.
I understand your fear at the thought of getting on the scales today, but I doubt there'll be very much difference tomorrow and you'll have lost a day when it comes to weighing again next Monday.
Why not bite the bullet and step on today, believe me, what those scales show won't be any worse than we've experienced and nobody here is going to be judgemental about it.
This is a very friendly forum, full of people in the same boat, with loads of experience, lots of help and advice and most of all a genuine wish to see everyone succeed on their weightloss journeys.
I wish you all the very best of luck and will keep popping over to the other thread to make sure you've arrived safely
I'm joining today no weigh in but il start at 12 stone (2 stone gain in 5 years)
Hi Lizzy, well done on your 35kms this week. I think we'll all find it a bit more of a struggle as the wet weather and dark nights kick in. I have bought a winter coat and now on the look out for a lighter wet weather jacket.
I managed 10.5 miles of recorded miles which I am pleased with as my target is always 10 miles
Managed over 6 miles yesterday so should be ok this week although won't be able to do my usual walk on Saturday so we will see.
Keep up the good work
Hi Lizzy,
I never measure how far I go on my walks - I usually measure it in terms of time spent - or number of steps if I remember to take my phone with me (which has an app feature to measure steps) - do you know how far 1 km is in terms of steps or time? I realise this is all relative, but I'm thinking about trying to calculate how far I do walk per week, so I can think about joining in your km challenge.
You're all doing incredibly well with this km challenge - very inspiring!
Lowcal
Hi Lowcal,
Firstly you need to measure your stride length ie, take 10 normal strides and measure the distance in metres, then divide by 10 to get your individual stride length in centimetres. A kilometre is 100,000 cms, so divide that by your stride length.
My stride length is 70cms, so 100,000/70 = 1,429 steps/km (rounded up)
I hope this makes sense to you and look forward to having you join us
Hi Moreless,
I'll keep a copy of your instructions, and will try to calculate my stride length etc. Really helpful - many thanks!
Can I ask you how tall you are? I'm wondering if I can use your stride length to avoid having to try to work it all out... but I know that's cheating and most likely you're not the same height as me, and even people of similar heights might have different stride lengths.
Lowcal
I'm shorter than you, just 5ft 6" and not very fit, so my stride is probably quite short, but I can't imagine stride lengths are hugely different.
I'm glad you were able to understand my instructions though
I didn't say I understood them, I was just glad to have them, and thanks for taking the time to write it out for me - I'll try to 'understand' them when I'm about to try to work it out - my Maths head isn't good, and I sometimes 'switch off' when faced with any form of instruction relating to Maths. But I'll let you know if I have any problems...!
Hi Lowcal - great to have you onboard. On my Fitbit, 10,000 steps is approximately 7.5kms. And I am 5ft 11ins.
Good luck for this week. Look forward to seeing you posting your results on Monday.
Okay drum roll everyone for the KKDers. We have managed 129kms, taking our overall total to 866kms. We can easily reach 1,000 kms by next week especially given we will have Lowcal and i think Lucca is back.
