Last Monday I weighed 13 stone 5.2 pounds, and today I weigh 13 stone 6.4 pounds, so I've gained 1.2 pounds this week. I am disappointed to have gained, but I did have a meal out mid week - although I had hoped to make up for that on the weekend, but unfortunately the extra weight stayed with me!
Never mind, I am going to put it behind me, and try to lose that weight plus a bit more this week, so I will set myself a goal to try to lose 2 pounds. I'm going to make a big batch of cauliflower soup at some point, and also try and have some healthy salads too. I've also slipped as I've not been doing my strength training exercises - I only did them once last week, and previously I was doing them about 5 or 6 times per week! Therefore I'll try to commit to doing them at least 4 times this week, as a minimum.

I'm joining you with a gain this week, I've gain 0.4lbs, I'm now at 10st 7.8lbs. I think it's mainly due to mother nature due to pay me a visit early next week, so trying not to worry about it too much.
Otherwise I have reached the end of my 12 week journey, but I will certainly be sticking around! I still want to get to 10st 4lbs.... and as the saying goes, you don't fail until you stop trying!
Sorry to hear you've had a gain too this week, but at least it's a very tiny gain of 0.4 pounds, and you know why you've gained. Mother nature has a tendency to make us put on weight once a month, doesn't she.
Congratulations for completing the 12 week plan, and I"m so glad that you'll be sticking around - you are getting close to your ultimate target goal of 10 stone 4 pounds - and then you'll probably want to maintain too - so you'd also be welcome to continue with us whilst you're in that phase of your weight loss journey too, if you wanted to.
Are you going to post a separate post about your progress on the 12 week plan, now you've completed it? I will certainly look out for it, if you are.
Loving your phrase "you don't fail until you stop trying", I'll take a small bet now that this is adopted by many of us and repeated numerous times on the forum from here on in.
Morning LC- commiserations on your gain. I sympathise as I am not in the losing club either- this is despite resolve and healthy eating. I have also been to the gym. But the result of one knock Sunday roast is 1.5 gain!!!! Ridiculous- won't be having another one of those til Xmas.
I am however fully resolved to lose weight. I have 13 weeks to lose at least a stone by then. I am also feeling the need to be healthy.
Dry November and aim to excersise 3 times a week. Aiming to return to yesterday's weight by next week
Thank you for your commiserations, and I also commiserate with you on your 1.5 gain - especially as you've worked so hard this week - and the Sunday roast knocked it over - yes that is ridiculous! But at least your hard work won't be in vain, as I am sure the weight will come off this week, all being well, and you'll have a good loss on the scales next week.
You sound extremely motivated to lose that stone in the next 13 weeks - and your need to feel healthy will be satisfied - so lots to achieve, and the best of luck in achieving it!
Dry November sounds a good idea, but I won't join you in that, as I don't really drink very much - but I can see you already have a few people who are keen to do that. So good luck to all of you on Dry November goals.
Wishing you a great week ahead. Catch you later in the thread, as I know you are very busy in the day.
Wishing you the very best of luck with dry November. I'm sorry but I won't be joining you on that one, I've got 3 nights away and a birthday celebration to get through. I'll join you in the commitment to exercise at least 3 times per week though. Fingers crossed for reporting a loss next Monday.
Commiserations on your gain Lowcal. Can be so frustrating at times.
This was my first week trying to maintain. I too have had a very minor gain 0.2kg) but am well within my goal range still. It is going to take a while to work out how much I can eat to maintain and not lose. Also I pulled muscles in my calf and thigh which put paid to exercising.
My aim this week is to lose that small gain. And get back to 56kg. I am on holiday and still resting the muscles.....
Thank you so much for your kind words - I do appreciate them. I do feel frustrated with the gain this week, as I thought I'd been quite good - and even during my meal out to an Indian restaurant I tried to make 'good choices' and only had a main course.
I am so sorry to hear you've pulled the muscles in your calf and thigh - that must be very painful and also frustrating as I know you enjoy exercising. I hope you'll recuperate well and get better soon. But I know it takes time, so hope you cope ok. It's good that you're on holiday so able to rest your muscles. I hope you enjoy your holiday, and good luck with getting rid of that very small gain of 0.2kg - hopefully you'll be back at your maintainance weight again next week.
Trying to maintain is as difficult as trying to lose weight isn't it? Fine tuning the diet takes a bit of thought and trial and error I think + I'm mindful of the very real possibility of slowly slipping back into bad habits but I don't want to get into a feast or famine situation either...what's a girl to do?
I'm sorry to hear about your gain. Could one meal out in the middle of the week have such a detrimental effect? Let's be warned then!
I'm glad you have made resolutions an looked at what else you could do to help, like the strength exercise. That's bound to help. I can't wait for you to announce a 2lb loss next week!
As for me I was weighing 84kg last week and this morning I weigh 82.4kg which means I have lost 3.5lbs! I am so happy about that loss I really was hoping for my loss to gain momentum after a loss of "only" 100g last week. And this week I missed swimming. Although I have completed week 7 run 3 yesterday of the Couch to 5K programme. So I'm entering week 8 now!
In terms of my eating I have moved to a low carbs high fat model from mid week and I am convinced this is what explains the bigger loss this week. I intend to stick to this for now and see the results!
I'm really excited this means I have lost 14.4lbs in 8 weeks. Roll on week 9!! And thanks to the lovely people in this forum!!
You are making fantastic progress- really well done! Congratulations on losing 3.5 pounds this week - that is really good, and to achieving a total of 14.4 pounds in 8 weeks. Really great!
Thanks for your kind words - I would say that one meal out mid-week shouldn't really impact that much, but it was an Indian meal and I did choose to eat half a Peshwari naan which is quite calorific, plus some wine etc, and overall it would be much higher calories than my normal meal at home.
I also ate more banana fruit cake than I anticipated eating yesterday - I only meant to have 1 slice, but had 2 slices, and then another small cake when I visited friends on the weekend, so I ate more than I intended. But it is minimal in the scale of things, so I'm putting it behind me.
There was a thread earlier this week about the LCHF way of eating, SVR28 posted it, as she was wondering about doing it. I'd recommend that you read the thread, and particularly the very detailed response that Olsbean posted within that thread - maybe you've already seen the thread, Olsbean has had experience doing it, and has written quite a lot about it - apparently you have to be really disciplined to try to do it healthily. I have my own views about it, which I also expressed within that post, and I think the Mediterranean diet would be a much healthier way of achieving higher good fats (olive oil, fish oils etc), and still achieving a good balance in terms of including some healthy wholegrains and fibre from complex carbohydrates.
Anyway, I am assuming you've researched it and you are happy with your decision to do it, and I would like to wish you success with it, and hope you have another good week.
Thank you very much for your reply no I hadn't seen the thread. I found it now and it was a very interesting read. I shall join or open another discussion on this as I do have questions. I was never much into red meat to start with and I dont eat bacon so I do believe that by sticking to fish chicken and eggs I should be fine. I think in the end I will adopt a similar diet than with nhs plan but with a slight imbalance between carbs and fat. I.e. I won't cut out carbs totally. But I do relate to the experience of those who said they felt constant hunger under the nhs plan and were starting to find it hard to cope. I feel that now I'm looking forward to my meal of veggies and chicken or fish and I feel more satisfied like that while not feeling such a dramatic change in what I eat, apart from the breakfast which is now just a couple of eggs and some milk. I do feel it's a constant trial and error and I do hope that by the end of the 12 weeks I will have worked out what's best in my situation. Thank you so much for directing me to where I could get more info even though you have your own reservation. Says a lot about your honesty :).
I understand now your issues of last week with the meal out, the banana cake etc :). I'm glad you've really pinpointed the causes and have already a working plan to address them. Is your BMI now in the healthy range? I'm sure you must have mentioned it but somehow this info is slipping my mind at the moment. If yes, why not stop trying to lost weight and just try to maintain, which is what you seem to be doing lately. Could it be that you put too much pressure on yourself at the moment and that maybe you should delay weight loss targets for after December for example? Sorry I'm just throwing this out there just because I know you've been veey successful on the nhs plan and I don't want you to forget that! You've achieved lots already in those three years, maybe you deserve a break?
Thank you for your reply - good idea to put a 'question post' up re: the LCHF diet, as I am sure you will get plenty of advice from people - there is also a healthunlocked community called 'LCHF' (or similar wording) so that also might be worth investigating.
Thanks for your comments about my own weight - I really appreciate them. My 'standard BMI' is currently 24.75 (just within healthy), but I use the 'New BMI' (as I am taller than the average woman, and I am 6 feet 1 inch tall) and my 'new BMI' is 23.59, so I usually give that as my BMI.
I kind of have 2 goals - one is to 'maintain' my weight loss at below 13 stone 7 pounds - and I've managed to do that for a long time now, but I also have the wish to get to 12 stone 7 pounds, because I remember feeling really good at that weight - but at the same time, that was quite a few years ago when I was that weight, so maybe it isn't realistic...! I do have that dilemma about it, but I keep 'pushing' myself to achieve it - as I think the fact I'm keeping my eye on that target also helps me not to put weight back on (hope that makes sense).
It was interesting that I saw a friend I usually see about once a month recently, and she E-mailed me after we'd met up and made the comment "Don't do too much more exercise or there'll be nothing left of you!" - I was genuinely surprised by that comment, but it made me think that the strength exercises I had been doing regularly must have had a positive impact on how I look. I've definitely toned up. My husband has assured me that I don't look 'too thin' so that is also reassuring!
Anyway, I hope you'll keep weighing in with us so we can know how you're getting on with your new eating plan - as this Monday group weigh-in is hopefully a supportive group for people trying things that work well for them as individuals, and that's the main thing. One size doesn't fit all - what works well for one person may not work for another.
Hi. Lowcal. I've been eavesdropping! I really like peshwari naan but so far managing to resist! I don't blame you for succumbing to its charms....
I can identify with you re maintaining, which I 'm embarking on learning to do, and also wanting to lose a bit more if I can. My goal was 8st 7 or 54kg which I managed, but would feel more comfortable at around 8 st. We'll see what happens. I've upped my calorie allowance to 1500 experimentally. I've been at my mother's again where there is no wifi and poor network so haven't yet worked out what my calorie allowance ought to be, but I believe there was a recent thread on maintaining which I think would help me. Neither were there any scales..
I was just about to go and cook something in the kitchen, but must have heard you mention 'peshwari naan' and it captivated me - it is really tasty isn't it.
Yes, I knew there were more people in this thread who are maintaining - I was talking to someone else about that earlier in the thread. I hope your new calorie allowance works out ok.
Hope you get back to wifi and a better network again soon, plus scales of course!
I'm just off to cook now, but I'll be popping back later, so will catch up on things later.
Thanks for your good wishes, and good luck to you too! Wishing you a great week.
Hi Lowcal, hi fab five, so sorry to hear that you gained this week, and good luck for next week.
I lost 2.25lbs this week and now weigh 12st 7.25lbs so have now lost 1stone 7.25lbs in 10 weeks, can't believe it, I normally give up long before this. Good luck to everyone this week.
Many thanks - hopefully I'll be back on track next week, all being well.
Congratulations to you for losing 2.25 pounds this week, and to losing 1 stone 7.25 pounds in 10 weeks, that is fantastic progress!
Great to hear you've been able to extend your motivation beyond your usual time frame, and hopefully it is sustainable to see you through to achieving your goals and beyond. You are doing really well.
A very warm welcome to you, and I am sorry to hear you've got a cold which has meant you've been wanting to eat lots of things in sight. I hope you get rid of it soon, and feel better.
You've shared your starting weight today - and I hope that felt ok to do so. Your name sounds familiar, so I am wondering if you've weighed in with us before, or if this is your first time with our Monday group weigh-in. Anyway, as you say, onwards and downwards from now on, and wishing you a great week ahead. A very warm welcome to you, if it is indeed your first time weighing in with us.
Are you doing the NHS 12 week plan? I'd recommend a look if you've not seen it. It's very good - has an excellent structure and lots of good advice.
Apologies if you've already weighed with us before, and I'm treating you like a 'newbie' - there were 69 people weighing in with us last week, but I am pretty sure you weren't there that week.
Hope you have a great week, and look forward to catching up with you at next week's weigh-in.
Sorry you have had a gain this week LowCal, but you seem positive and determined - I know you will lose 2 lbs next week!
I have lost 1.2lbs which I am happy about as I gained 1lb last week. I feel more determined now and my head seems to be getting back in losing the last 16 lbs. I feel like I have had a break for the last 4 weeks but it's time to knuckle down again. I would love to lose the weight before Christmas but I don't think this is realistic so I am going to say the end of January allowing for a few extra pounds to creep on over Christmas!
I know I have said this a few times, but it really is the support of everyone on this forum that has kept me going. I've posted my weight on here every week despite not really following the plan for four weeks and this has helped me get back on track. Before I would have just given up. Thank you!
Hi NoMoreJunk, good to hear you're back on track with that 1.2lb loss. Its great that you have a goal date in mind to lose the last 16lbs. I think end of Jan definitely sounds achievable. How about aiming for 8lbs by mid December to make sure you're on track? Good luck
I must agree with you, the support from the forum really does help to keep us on track. The Monday weigh in thread means that we are accountable and as long as we keep recording our losses/gains we are aware of the progress that we are making. Have a good week.
I weigh 14st 3 and just keep getting fatter ! But I do keep eating too many crisps and drink too much wine - so I want to report bsck next week an improvement x
Welcome! Those wines and crisps have to go I'm afraid! Or at least reduced to a minimum. I found changing the type of alcohol I was drinking really helped. I switched from wine to cider, and made myself drink much slower. Will you be following the 12 week plan? There's lots of ideas in there too. Good luck for next week
Morning everyone sorry about your gain this week lowcal wishing you the best of luck next week, I have lost 2lb this morning and people are starting notice that I'm losing which is better than any scale victory! Good luck everyone for next week
Congratulations to you for losing 2 pounds this week, and it's great to hear that people are noticing that you're losing weight - like you say, that is better than any scale victory.
Seems a few people have gained this week (including myself) why is it so hard?!
Last week I decided to set myself at 14st 8.3lbs and this morning I am 14st 10.3lbs, so I guess I have gained 2lbs! Itās amazing. Today is actually my 12 week target and I started off at 14st 12lbs so basically in 12 weeks I have lost 2lbs!!
Epic fail, especially since I have been tracking my food and trying to be more active. Just seems like my body loves being fat!
I actually went back to the Cambridge diet centre last week, it has been exactly a year since I last went. The nutritionist redid my stats and in 1 yr I gained 9kg of fat (increasing fat % from 41% to 46.3%) and 0.3kg of muscle. My overall muscle mass was 28.1kg (30%) and my BMR was 1463.
The nutritionist recommended I cut my calories to 800 for a week and reduce the carbs ā cereal for breakfast, chicken breast and veg for lunch and a meal replacement pack for dinner. I am not sure if I will be able to do that, but if I donāt, I guess I will just continue maintaining my current weight.
One of the podcast sessions talked about some reasons why we donāt lose weight and suggested trying intermittent fasting ā has anyone tried that, or the 5:2 diet?
I agree with you that it isn't very nice when you gain weight, and so my commiserations that you gained 2 pounds this week. I can't believe it's already 12 weeks ago since you started the plan, and I'm glad that you've achieved a loss during that time, but I know you're disappointed that it's only 2 pounds. But at least it was a loss rather than a gain. The Autumn can be a challenging time to lose weight - and you have lost some!
The nutritionist has given you an extremely low calorie intake target - that would be incredibly hard to achieve and sounds incredibly low to me. The NHS calculator wouldn't recommend such a low level.
You asked if anyone has had experience with the 5:2 diet - speaking personally, I did try the 5:2 diet for a while (about a month), but I found it made me feel a bit light-headed on the fasting days. I did lose weight on it, but I didn't feel great during that time. But I remember that there was a member on this forum who did incredibly well on it - her name is Gingernut (followed by some numbers), and she got featured in a newspaper for her success on that plan. Her old posts will be on the site, if you want to see what she said about it.
Anyway, I hope you don't feel too disheartened, and I hope you'll go forward into this next week with a plan of action that feels more positive.
Good luck - and hopefully you'll see a loss on the scales next week.
800 a day seems very low and very strict - similarly the 5:2 diet - it made me lash out and give up I couldn't last with those and was hungry all the time!
how many calories do you keep to now? and are they the right calories?
also are you measuring your waist? have you lost inches?
I think finding something that works for you is key - whatever kind of diet it is
I cant do much exercise either due to a desk job and ligament damage to my ankle
I saw something I think was on the NHS website about a guy who tried a different diet each week - maybe you could try that and see what suits you best?
do you log everything you eat? do you have myfitness pal?
if your doing everything right then maybe its your body i.e. underactive thyroid or a food intolerance?
I hate the idea of food replacement packs as you are reliant on them and my head wants to eat food - even if its a plate full of veg that makes 200 calories!
feel free to pm me if u want to discuss more, everyone here is very supportive and happy to help x
Morning all, lowcal sorry to hear of you wee gain im sure you'll get your 2lb loss next week. I again have stayed the same think im destined to stay at 10st 9lb but on a positive note it looks like I've mastered at my maintaining the weight for when i really do want to maintain š good luck all for next week x
Good morning! Thanks for describing my gain as a 'wee gain' it makes it sounds much smaller somehow.
I love your positivity in terms of acknowledging that you've got 'maintainance' off to a fine art - and I will say Congratulations for maintaining your weight, as it is better than gaining - but hopefully you'll finally shift from 10 stone 9 pounds and see a loss on those scales very soon - hopefully your patience and positivity will be rewarded - so keep going.
Wishing you a loss on those scales or a change in measurements by next week!
I've lost 1lb in my second week, after putting on in my first week.
I've exercised and eaten pretty well. I've tried the 5:2 diet this past week and was hopeful in the middle of the week when I'd lost 3lb! Sadly that 3lb didn't last despite being good.
I'm going to plough on, but losing a pound is a bit disheartening. I wonder if anyone else has had any success with 5:2?
Hiya Ali as long as you find a scheme of eating that suits you, don't diss the pound! if you search for gingernut you will see she has a lot of positive thoughts on the diet and she was featured in the Daily Mail at the beginning of the year I woul say it takes a few weeks to decide if a plan works for you! Stick with us if you lost a pound every week till xmas it would be half a stone by xmas!
lowcal I am sorry that very small weight gain - it seems unfair that you cannot enjoy a meal out.
I have just enjoyed another weeks holiday in Wales - I ate what I felt like at meals but avoided snacks or alcohol / fizzy drinks and recorded everything in MFP. We were active: mainly cycling or walking (limping with two sticks!) 6 hours a day at least so we ate huge meals. There were no scales.
Two Mondays ago I weighed 91.2kg
Friday week ago I weighed 91.7kgs - which I still can't explain
This morning I weigh 90.7 kgs
I think this means I lost a pound in two weeks. I am so relieved I did not gain.
Glorious weather. I now have six weeks at home, no more trips. Twice weekly knee bootcamp with the physio, twice a week weights and swimming classes, cycling to work and trying to walk more on my dodgy knee. Masses of gardening - I haven't cleared the veg beds yet. No alcohol, processed food or snacks.
Wishing you all a wonderful week. Can't wait to read all the posts this evening
Hi Gonti, welcome back after what sounds like a really amazing holiday! That's amazing that you've lost a lb. It sounds like you really followed a common sense way of eating while you were away - responding to your larger appetite after all those walks, but not indulging in unnecessary extras. It all sounds very sensible. Good luck knuckling down to your gardening, exercise and dry November (starting early it would seem!). Have a great week
Yes, a 2lb loss! A night out next weekend for my birthday, so hoping to stay the same, for next Monday's weigh-in. Will continue to be good this week and exercise everyday with Henry my spaniel.
Keep going Lowcal , I know those strength exercises can be a little boring but each one is increasing muscle and metabolism.......ha ha I should,do some myself!
Hi fab five, stayed the same this week, glad I didn't gain after the strange carb- fest day I had on Wednesday, hopefully that was a one- off, I do seem to be losing and gaining the same two pounds though so might need a re- think. It's not a plateau it's getting my determination in the right place. Having got rid of a stone 6 months ago and seemingly found a good balance of eating which generally keeps my energy levels stable I'm struggling to discipline myself to count calories to lose the remaining 2 stone.
Hi Fran stopping is not a bad thing, regaining is! So have a bit of a regroup have you used my fitness pal for calorie counting? 5:2 May also be an option now you have your eating under control? Hopefully you can get your mojo back!
Morning Vik, glad you are getting on with c25k, that's good news you sound very positve about every thing and hopefully you will see a loss next week! Have a great week!
I'm hope you enjoyed your meal out Lowcal and 1.2 lb is only a small gain. As this is a lifestyle change for us all there will inevitably be weeks where we face meals/celebrations which make it difficult to lose weight but we should still enjoy life and live for the moment. Back to plan this week and I'm sure normal service will be resumed and you will turn that small gain around. I've lost 0.5 lb this week which is ok I guess, I was out over the weekend for a girls night out and granddaughters birthday party yesterday with the obligatory slice of birthday cake. Unfortunately, last week was rather a sedentary week for me in terms of getting away from my desk during working hours. I have also left myself rather a mountain to climb in the kettlebell challenge, I seem to have brought a headcold back from my girls weekend away last weekend and have felt a little lethargic this week. I have 4800 No swings left to do in 10 days to complete the challenge in 5 weeks, it's a tough ask but if a challenge is too easy then it's not a challenge. This weeks goal to make some real progress with the kettlebell and lose at least 1 lb. Have a good week everyone.
Mrs G I am in awe of you with the kettle bell challenge, 1/2 lb is a result it shows a downward trend! And of course I whole heartedly agree life is for living without taking our eyes off the ball, have a great week!
I'm sorry to read of your disappointment in gaining this week but pleased to know you have dealt with it by putting it behind you and setting a goal for next week.
I managed to maintain my weight this week, I had hoped to have shed that last pound to get me back to target weight but it wasn't to be. However, I did slightly increase my calorie allowance last week as although I want to get back to target; and even lose a few extra pounds, I'm in no rush to achieve it.
Good luck with achieving your goal this week and resuming your exercise regime, have a good week.
Jen what's a 1lb between friends? You are doing well on maintaining, it's always good to lose a few pounds before xmas! Have a great week and you have provided me with some much needed inspiration š
Lowcal I feel your pain, one meal out and a 1.2lb gain, how unfair is that?!! Fingers crossed you see that 2lb loss you're aiming for next week
For some reason, I'm really struggling with the site this morning and it's killing me not to be able to respond to individual posts. Please take it as read, everyone, that I'm jumping for joy at your losses and commiserating with your gains. Maybe later I'll be back to normal function again
I'm really happy to report a 4.25lb loss this week, which sounds massive, but it actually just covers last week's gain of 1.375 and gives me an acceptable loss of 1.4375 for each of the last two weeks, which is bang on the money
Hark at me, a veritable maths whizzkid. It's amazing what changes this plan can make to you However, it is still mystifying me as to what's happening to my waist measurement, which after having lost a total of 17.25lbs, is 1/2" bigger than it's 1st day measurement!
There's nought as queer as folk
All the very best of luck to everyone and have a very happy Monday
Hi Moreless, congrats on reversing last week's loss, and then some, that's great! I'm also puzzled by the lack of cooperation regarding waist measurement. Did you do measurements elsewhere at all? As you've significantly increased your activity, I wonder if the weight's coming off your legs and hips maybe? I know I'm following a similar theme to last week, asking if you've really checked all the effects of the weight loss, but I think it all helps so much with motivation along the way. At least the box of springs is playing ball today though! Hope you have another great week ahead, and look forward to see how many kms you kicked in Lizzy's post too
Thanks Flossie and who knew healthy eating could improve your maths skills
You have a great week too, you deserve one
Sorry to hear you have gained. I have also gained - 2.8lbs which I am so ashamed to report. Back in the 16's šš„š±
I put it down to time of the month and feeling stressed. Still haven't got any good news re adoption hopefully this week.
Anyway back on track. Need to lose the gain and a bit more.
Lizzy
ā¢ in reply to
Hi Lizzy, sorry you haven't heard anything yet! Stress could very easily explain that gain. I hope it reverses this week. But most importantly hope the adoption news comes through soon. You're very brave putting yourself through such a potentially emotional process. Hope your patience is rewarded soon, so you can start to relax again and move on to a new happy phase of your life

Thanks, Ruth. I very nearly didn't post. Glad I did š
Whilst wait to hear news, got a home visit tomorrow for a baby girl. I'll be making more lemon drizzle cake ššš
Thanks, Lowcal. It went very well. They are proceeding with us as their preferred match. We are meeting the foster carers in a few weeks and are due to go to panel in mid December. Although not certain, it's looks very promising that we will have our little girl by the New Year ššš
That is sooooo exciting Lizzy - such great news! Really excited for you - what a lovely outcome - I am sure the Lemon Drizzle cake probably helped too - but of course it is essentially down to you being their preferred match. Fantastic!
Bummer about your weight gain - seems like we both need to recommit and go back to basics?
I've gained and am at 134.5.
I expected this but thanks to a lot of support from the group and particularly yourself and a couple others - you know how you are - my mindset is much better.
I had a day off today and have been very busy in the backyard and am definitely ahead of where I planned to be so thats making me feel more settled and happy with myself.
Time for me to take a deep breath, put my health as a priority again and start tomorrow and this week afresh.
I will be at 132 kg or less by Monday of next week.
This is not a maybe or an if it is the weight I will be and I will be recommitting myself to counting calories, getting my daily exercise and getting back into planning my meals.
I feel very lucky to be here and am so grateful to ALL of you for your support recently
Hi Dave, glad you've popped in to be accountable for last week's gain and will be popping in again next week too. You know the exercise, calorie counting etc works. You've seen the process achieve great weight loss for you week after week. You've mustered some excellent resolve and are ready to knuckle down again now! I'm really confident that you'll be reporting 132kg in 7 days time. The most important thing is that any blip should be put behind you immediately. Keep picking yourself up and getting back on plan. And stay in touch. We love to encourage you, especially as you've encouraged all of us so much on our journeys too š¹ š» šµ š“
I just want to add to what others have said, that your post also helped to motivate me to do some 'to do' lists of my own - and that resulted in lots of cleaning on Sunday, (which I know I needed to do, but the other things on the list are ones I've been putting off for ages - and reading about your progress with your own back yard made me look at my own - and I am hoping to achieve some things I've been putting off for a while, so thank you for helping to motivate me into action on those things.
sorry to hear of your gain, Lowcal, it is along road we all walk
For me the challenge is going to be half term. I thought I would get lots of exercise done, but the weather predictions down here are awful, which means the kids will be in more
Anyway, I am pleased this week, I am finally under 200 lb (and very nearly under 90kg!!).
This morning I weighed 199 lb I think that's a loss of 2 lb.
What's more, from when I started on 17. August ( before Monday weigh ins) I have have lost just over 1 stone.
Thank you everyone for being there, here comes the next stone !!!
Fantastic to hear you're finally under 200lb - that is so great to hear! Also, the fact you're getting close to being under 90kg too - lots of motivating milestones. Really well done and Congratulations on losing 2 pounds this week - that is such a great result.
Wow, you've lost just over 1 stone - that is brilliant!!!! Your post is extremely inspiring, and I'm really pleased for you.
Here's to your next stone! You're already on your way.
Hope you cope ok with half-term - maybe think of some ways to help yourself to cope with it - as you can hopefully pre-plan what the challenges will be, and think of some strategies to help you cope. Maybe put out a separate post asking others how they cope with half-term? I am sure there will be lost of suggestions and things people have found that have helped them to cope.
Maybe some people in this weigh-in thread will also give you some pointers or suggestions.
Just been out with my son and we had great fun counting the steps on my vivofit. He kept saying " come on, lets go that way !" In the end our 8 minute walk home from the library took 30 minutes, and the speed we were walking we added loads. He just said he'll walk up a big hill to the moors and back tomorrow! He might regret it š Just hoping for the weather to be better than predicted. Otherwise I'll have to do a dvd to burn something instead š
A very good morning to you LC. Sorry to hear of your gain but I know that you have the will to stick right to the plan and step up your exercise again, so I'm expecting to see at least a 2lb loss from you next Monday!
I myself had an absolutely dreadful week both exercise and diet wise. I was expecting a bit of a gain this morning but am very pleased to report a weight of 12st 10lb which means I have maintained.
This also gives me motivation to get back to the walking, stick to my plan and I am right back on track now, setting a 2lb target loss as well. Best of luck lowcal, see you Monday!
I love your encouraging post, many thanks for your expectations of me - I shall do my best to comply.
I am so sorry to hear you've had an absolutely dreadful week both exercise and diet wise. Thank goodness you were able to maintain in those circumstances, so I will say Congratulations for maintaining, that is much better than the gain you were expecting.
At least it has motivated you in terms of helping you to get back to your walking, and getting back on track, and I wish you the very best with that - great that you've also set a 2 pound target - let's do it!
Thanks for sharing that thought about the fluid retention theory - I have to say that it could well be a factor for myself - I did think it was strange that I'd gained this week. I do have treats on the weekend (such as ice-cream, cake, and crisps) and I do that most weeks, so I was disappointed by the gain.
It's fantastic to hear you've lost another pound this week, and that you're now at a healthy BMI - MANY Congratulations - that is fantastic! Like you say 'Taa Daa'.
You are welcome to keep weighing in with us, as it's important you get to a weight you are comfortable with - and the healthy BMI does have a fairly wide 'healthy range' of weight, so yes, please keep weighing with us - and even when you reach a weight you want to maintain at, you would still be welcome to weigh with us to help you maintain - as that is quite challenging in itself. Prin has been maintaining for quite a while now, and I try to maintain my weight below 13 stone 7 pounds. Ruth_Canal_Runner has got to her healthy BMI now and is maintaining - and that's just the Fab 5'ers. 2BFabnfit and Jenever are also maintaining - I've probably missed some people, but I just wanted you to know we hope you'll stay with us as long as you want to!
couldn't have done it without the support of this forum,
and especially you, a big thank you
Started 23.6. 11 stone 10. New scales made me 3ibs heavier.
now weigh 9.11. I'm 61 and 5foot 2. So would feel better being around 9 and half. Not done any exercise last 3 weeks, found i picked more when exercising, but will start again tomorrow I feel you tone up, and it's good to feel fitter. Just saying to cheer up those who haven't had time to exercise,
That is fantastic Kitkat - really a great achievement, and very inspiring to everyone.
Weighed in at 200lb this morning. That's down 3.75lb.
I've switched my weigh in time to first thing in the morning rather than at bedtime, and so am likely to gain a couple of pounds during the day as my body re-hydrates. Even so, this is a good result, and I'm looking forward to reporting weights in the 100's from here onward.
Fifteen years ago, I went to Vegas and flew over the Grand Canyon in a helicopter. I was lucky because there was a weight restriction of 15 stone, and at that time I was slightly over, but, they allowed the flight to go ahead.
Fully dressed, I'm now just on the 15 stone mark. I feel like I'm slowly turning back the clock, peeling off layers that have built up over years.
I shall be looking for new clothes for Christmas and am looking forward to presenting the new me at the family gatherings.
Wow, what a great result - many Congratulations on losing 3.75 pounds this week. How exciting that you're on the cusp of the 100's - that will be so great when you drop into the 100's very soon. Congratulations again - as those milestones are really motivating.
It's great that you're feeling more positive, and peeling off layers that have built up over the years - that should hopefully feel re-juvenating and healthy. Great that you're already planning your new clothes shopping, and looking forward to showing off your new healthier self at all those Christmas occasions.
I've just joined forum last week, and a 12-week plan, and now after just a week I lost 1.1 kg or 2.4 lbs. I feel absolutely fantastic about this and want to thank you all, but especially lowcal and ruthcanal for their support. I didn't think it was possible, but it is! Myfitnesspal is such a useful tool.
Great to see you again, and it's brilliant to hear you've lost 2.4 pounds (1.1kg) in your first week - really great! Congratulations!!!
I'm so glad you are feeling so good about it, and I'm glad you found Myfitnesspal to be helpful. It does make things much easier to keep track of.
You are very welcome, regarding your kind comments about the support of myself and fellow Fab 5'er (Ruth) - we are ever inspired by the people who join us in this weigh-in group, and we hope you'll continue to do well, and that you enjoy the weight-loss journey alongside us all. You'll get to know all the Fab 5'ers in time, (Candystripe, Suzybenj and Prin) and all the other contributors are fabulous too. True Fabsters!
Last week I weighed 17.10.2, this morning I'm 17.7.2, so the gift of gain by Mother Nature is slowly departing.
Nil desperandum Lowcal and all those who've gained, and Way to Go! to all those who've lost.
It's really tough when relenting just a little bit on our diet and exercise regimes seems to bite us on the bum with no loss, or a gain, but I'm a firm believer in a little of what you fancy doing you good and what we have to keep in mind is that despite the odd blip, we are all doing something positive for our health and wellbeing.
I love ice-cream, but had been totally avoiding it because I thought it would wreck my diet. Then I discovered that 100 ml (a generous portion) of Waitrose's own brand ice-cream (if you haven't tried them, they're scrummy!) have virtually the same calories/sugar/fat content as a 125 ml pot of Activia low-fat fruit yoghurt! So now I treat myself to ice-cream once a week and enjoy! Likewise I did a comparison of various branded and own-brand crisps, low fat crisps and baked crisps and found the fat/calories/sugar differences were negligible, so treat myself to 1 20 g pack of Walker's per week. Makes staying on the straight and narrow the rest of the week a little easier I find.
Anyway, it's a gorgeous morning here, so I'm going to check there's nothing pressing work-wise, then get out for a run.
Wow, what a fantastic result for you this week - losing 3 pounds, that is brilliant!!! I am really happy for you. Thanks also for your comment "Nil Desperandum" - I am not down-hearted - more spurred on by everyone's very lovely comments and support of each other. Really great to see.
I also 'treat' myself to a bag of crisps once a week - unfortunately this week the Indian meal mid-week meant I ended up reaching for the bag of crisps early - normally I don't have that temptation around till the weekend, which is when I buy the crisps as a 'planned treat' - so it shows how having things accessible and available can be bad if you open up your taste buds somehow. Anyway, I then didn't buy any crisps for the weekend, as I figured I'd had the treat earlier in the week. Of course, the extra cake on the weekend was too tempting...! It was very healthy cake though - following Ruth's no sugar recipe - it's really delicious! I must cut it up and freeze it, so I only have a slice occasionally.
The Waitrose ice-cream sounds nice - I'll have to look out for it and try it. I must say my favourite is Haagen Dazs Pralines and Cream, and I do have a scoop of that most weeks - also on the weekends...
I hope you are able to go for that morning run - and that you enjoy it.
Afraid I can't take any credit for the three pounds loss, purely nature shedding the 5 or so she added last week. The run was fab thanks, it's a beautiful autumn day here - sun shining, not a cloud in the sky, gorgeous autumn colours...
I also find that if I have a certain food it makes me want more of the same. I am convinced that fat is addictive in the same way as alcohol, tobacco, etc.
In addition to the standard vanilla, strawberry and chocolate, Waitrose also do mint chop chip, butterscotch and toffee fudge. They taste like premium ice-creams without the premium price and come in at around 120 cals for 100 ml. Result!!!
I love your positivity and the support from everyone on here - it's great to know we're not on our own. Wishing you a lovely week.
Last week I was 101.8kgs this morning I am 101.6kgs so a small loss of 200g - almost 1/2 lbs.
This is not a great loss but I am happy with some of the changes I have made over this last week.
Rather than buy a latte each morning to deal with the rubbish drive into work I make up a flask of coffee to have in the car.
Rather than buy a Hot chocolate and a Latte (that would also then lead to a muffin and a brownie) for myself and my little boy before we went to the duck ponds on Sunday morning, I made up a flask each for him and for myself instead and I didn't need to venture into the coffee shop to be tempted by their pastries.
I have been far more aware of my portion sizes and I have been using the stairs far more than I would normally.
This week I am going to carry on these new habits and focus on getting my portions sizes right, not go back for seconds straight away, go to gym at least once and add more vegetables to everything.
Slow and steady, which is completely not in my nature but something I am working on!
Well done everyone - I love reading your posts and here's to a really positive week for us all.
Congratulations on losing 200g this week. I really enjoyed reading your post, as you've listed lots of positive changes that you've made, and they all sound really good. Those differences in calories between your made up flask of drink versus the shop-bought lattes will be vast, and like you say, it meant you didn't buy the accompanying muffin etc with the coffees. That is such a great change to have made. Really great!
You have listed some great goals to work towards for this week, and good luck with all of them.
Hope you have another really good week ahead.
Lowcal
I put on 0.6 lb this week. On one hand I disappointed because this is the time when I should be losing a few pounds a week, not gaining. but on the other hand, it is only 0.6 lb and I often fluctuate by a lb or 2 anyway and I had a weekend away with my boyfriend, we did lots of walking but also had to eat out every meal so it's harder to monitor calories. On the whole I think the week went well, I feel more in control of what I eat, I fell off the wagon a couple of times but never binged like before. I just need to work a bit more of portion sizes and controlling my cravings.
I'm glad you've been able to put your small gain of 0.6 pound into a good perspective, because it is only a very small gain, and you had a weekend away with your boyfriend - and from experience I would say that weekends away are usually a recipe for substantial weight gain, so to have only had a slight gain is good. The walking you did must have helped a lot. You're right, I think it's much harder to monitor calories when you're eating out more.
I'm glad to hear you felt more in control of what you ate in the week, and that you feel it went well. The fact you noticed you fell off the wagon a couple of times, but didn't resort to excessive bingeing is brilliant. Good luck with your goal to work more on your portion sizes and help to control your cravings.
Last week weighed 13.2 ad I weigh 13.1. Which means I lost 1 lb a bit disappointed was hoping to loose more. Oh well! Never mind at I lost. New week new beginning. I aim to loose 2 ls. I will increase my exercise as I didn't do much last week. I went swimming last night. This week I am hoping to brisk walk at least 3 times a week.
Congratulations to you for losing 1 pound this week, that is really great! I know you were hoping to lose more, but weight loss often stabilises to between 1 and 2 pounds once you're into the plan, and it's a very respectable amount to lose. So try to celebrate it too if you can.
It was your post about healthy salad ideas which has inspired me to try to have more of those in my own week - so thank you so much for doing that post yesterday.
Good luck with your exercise goals - great that you enjoyed a swimming session last night, and I hope the weather will be kind to you when you're doing those brisk walks.
Very interesting I weighed my self a few minutes ago and now I weigh 12.13 which I am so excited about. I think the scales doesn't like me so early in the morning. lol! Finally got into the 12. No the trick is to keep going down and not up as it did. This week I am also going to drink 8 glasses of water.
Wow, sounds like a later weigh-in works well for you! That means you've actually lost 3 pounds this week, and fantastic to hear you're into the 12's - I am really thrilled for you!
I expect Ruth will take the 3 pound loss for the stats - as that is your actual loss this week.
Glad you're having such a positive day and hope the week ahead is another really good one.
Good morning Lowcal, I am sorry to hear that you have had a gain this week I know this was not what you expected and I was keeping my fingers crossed for you, but that's life sometimes. We accept it and move on because we won't be defeated (will we )
I like your plan for this coming week with the cauliflower soup and adding in some nice healthy salads. This week for me is going to be mostly fish, salad and lots of veg. I have some smoked haddock, trout some white fish and king prawns. I am having this with some quinoa, vegetables baked with the fish and a nice salad on the side. I also have some turkey strips to make a turkey stir fry which should be nice.
I really do hope that you achieve your goal of losing 2 lbs by next week, this is also the number I am going for this week so let's do this Lowcal we can both do this as anything is possible
Well done to the group those stats are truly fantastic!
Lowcal have a great week enjoy those lovely meals you have planned and I will definitely be thinking of you this week and keeping my fingers crossed.
Mmmm, I love the sound of your planned meals for this week - they sound really tasty and very healthy. You've reminded me of quinoa, and I am going to have some of that in some of my healthy salads. Your turkey stir fry sounds delicious too. I love fish of all kinds, and I think salmon will be on the menu quite a bit this week.
Great that we have the same goal this week - I must try hard to achieve 2 pounds, as I feel sure you will lose that amount - you are amazing in your ability to achieve your goals Trafford1.
Thanks for your continued enthusiastic and much appreciated support, and I'll look out for your next weigh-in post.
Congratulations to you for losing 2 pounds this week, and being so close to the 13's now. Really great to hear you've lost 12 pounds in total in 4 weeks, and you're on your 5th week now - you're doing really well. Great progress.
I can't join you all this morning sadly as I'm away from home with no scales so will post late tomorrow instead. But I've read all your posts so well done to all and thanks for duly motivating me for the next week.
No problem, just pop in tomorrow morning, and we'll look forward to hearing how you got on. Glad you're already feeling motivated by the posts and that you're already looking forward to the next week, and I hope your weigh-in tomorrow will make you feel good too.
Congratulations on your 1 pound loss, that is good - I know you were hoping for more, but imagine that pound as a block of butter or lard and think about how much that is. It's a good amount to lose in a week. Really well done!
I'm taking I have a higher power saying U can do this emma because after a massive crap week and having massive binge on Friday and Saturday plus eating out yesterday I still managed to lose a pound if I managed to lose 1pound after everything being thrown at me all I can say is I can do this so I now weigh 13.2 and pardon the rudeness. F*** u weight I will lose u and will not be controlled by u as u can tell this is what I needed after my week x
Wow, I am so happy for you that you lost 1 pound, as it sounds like just what you needed after a challenging week. Well done!
I am sorry to hear that you had a difficult week last week - and that you over-ate on the weekend - but you must have done something right earlier in the week, and it's great that you can celebrate a 1 pound loss today. Congratulations!
I hope you have a much nicer week this week, and that less challenges fall in your way.
Lowcal
Hi Lowcal,
Oh the swings and roundabouts of this journeyš
Glad you are able to put it behind you and focus on a rejig of your week. Sometimes the scales are not kind no matter how hard we work.
Not had a good week myself either, we had friends to stay so had lot's of nice things to eat and drink. Wouldn't have been so bad if I had cut back again after they had gone but carried on eating leftover's . Result being 2lb gain so back up to 13 stone.
Well will put that behind me, get back to healthy eating this week and hopefully get the 2lb's back off.
Sorry to hear you also had a challenging week - having friends to stay is lovely, but it does bring all those socialising pressures of extra food and drink. Oh yes, having left-overs afterwards is incredibly challenging - hope there's nothing left now to tempt you.
Like you say, put it behind you - get back to healthy eating this week, and hopefully that 2 pound will be off again and you can enjoy being back in those 12's - (oh - those elusive 12's - how I dream of them...!!!
I just replied to you below - I'm working from the bottom up, as I saw Prin (another Fab 5'er) is in the house and I didn't want us to double up on our responses.
Great that you've shared your starting weight - and I hope that felt ok to do that. Wishing you a great 12 weeks, and hope you enjoy it!
Look forward to catching up with you next week, and in the meantime, have a wonderful first week on the plan.
Morning all joining you on the increases list, a predicted 2lb gain this week, I have enjoyed my holiday even though we didn't go away back to work tomorrow. My aim is to lose these two by next Monday, I have two nights out this week, so I think it will be a challenge. Have a good week folks!
I am glad to hear you've enjoyed your holiday, and that you only gained the predicted 2 pound gain - that is a positive result!
Wow, you've got 2 night's out to contend with, and you're hoping to lose 2 pounds this week - I think that will definitely be a challenge, but I think you are up to it! Wishing you success with your goal, and here's to a great week ahead.
I hope I can match you in terms of losing 2 pounds this week - I have one night out that I know of, so I'll try to make good choices.
A very warm welcome to you, and thanks for joining us for this Monday weigh-in. I actually think your breakfast has quite a few nutrients in it - presuming the toast is a wholemeal one and not the brown bread that is just coloured brown, then it would be full of healthy fibre and a complex carbohydrate, and the banana is good, and I also think peanut butter is healthy too - honey has quite a lot of sugar in it of course, but it is a natural form rather than a processed one. You can calculate the calories of your meal with an app like Myfitnesspal to see how calorific it was, and whether that fits with your overall day's calorie plans.
I don't know if you've seen the NHS 12 week plan - but it is really good in terms of providing a 12 week structure and lots of helpful advice and also many recipe ideas too. It's definitely worth a look.
Wishing you a great week, and hope you'll join us next week for another weigh-in. You can share your goals with us if you want to - and hopefully you'll enjoy being part of the group and we can help support each other on this weight loss journey.
Morning everyone, this morning I weigh 12.12.1 and my waist is 39.5" from last weeks 13.1.06 and waist 41". I'm ecstatic as I've not been losing. I love this site and the most helpful and lovely people sharing their journey.
I'm sad you had a gain lowcal but treat it as your challenge for this next week. Best of luck everyone for this coming week.
Congratulations on losing 1.5 inches from your waist measurement, that is really brilliant!
Weight-wise, have you maintained your weight from last week? Ruth might like to know that for the stats - it just shows how it isn't all about what the scales show, and often the inches off are good indicators of how much we're toning up etc.
Many thanks for your kind words, and you're right - I'm seeing it as a challenge for this week, and I hope to see a change next week, all being well.
Totally agree that inches is not the same as scales. my skirts are looser and hoping to get back into all my clothes. Now I am off to the supermarket to stock up on fruits and make delicious salads all thanks to this amazing forum.
Sorry Marianne, I notice you did mention that in your original post (I missed it when I first read it - don't know why) - I think that makes your loss to be 2.5 pounds this week. I hope that's right, as my Maths isn't the best, but I think Ruth's is excellent, so I'm sure she'll put it right, if I've calculated it wrongly. Congratulations anyway, as 2.5 pounds is an excellent loss, alongside the measurement changes.
Ha ha if I could I would, I'm now scared it will go back and it was a fluke so not too confident yet. š”š”š”š” hoping the lights stay on!!
Week 3 completed and 1lb lost this week, that's 6.5lbs in total. Really happy with my progress and can't wait for Week 4 when hopefully I can say I've lost half a stone.
Wow, you're doing really well - Congratulations on losing another pound this week, and to achieving a loss of 6.5 pounds in total. You are sounding very motivated and happy, and that's great to hear. You're getting very close to losing that half stone. Good luck and hope you achieve that for next Monday's weigh-in.
Hi lowcal I weighed in at 16/9 last week and this week I weighed in at 16/9/2 , I am so disappointed, I have been under1400 cals every day and I've tried to keep to the carbs fats and protein levels it's only my 3rd wk posting and I feel devastated x
Please try not to be too disappointed - that is an extremely minimal gain - 0.2 pound is very small indeed - and could disappear with a bowel movement literally! You lost 1.4 pounds last week, which was excellent, and hopefully you'll lose some more this week - all being well. Weight does level out after the first couple of weeks, and I think that's what you're experiencing today - please don't let it put you off your plan - stick with it, and you should see continued progress in the right direction.
Well done for sticking to the plan, and I hope you have a good week ahead.
I know personally what it feels like to gain weight through no fault of your own, last week, I gained 1.375lbs, but this week I lost it again and more, putting me right back on track.
It feels as if you might as well give up, but if you put it back into perspective and push through, you'll come up smelling of roses
Keep doing what you're doing and next week will be a whole different story
Hello Lowcal and everyone else!
I would like to join your group if that's ok. I have spent years and wasted good money by following all sorts of diets! The latest of these was the 5 2 diet, which actually helped me to realise that if I didn't not eat at any given time then I wouldn't starve to death!
At my worst around 4 years ago, I weighed nearly 15 stones. I currently weigh 12 stone exactly. (I'm 5'1")
I don't know about anyone else, but I am finding it so hard to lose weight!!!! I am eating around 1200-1400 calories - which is My Fitness Pal and NHS plan guidelines. I am doing well with exercise - either walking at least half an hour through the week (work gets in the way) and cycling for around an hour each day at the weekend.
A very warm welcome to you, and thanks for joining us in this Monday weigh-in group. It's great that you've joined us.
You've done well to get your weight down from your heaviest (nearly 15 stones) to now at 12 stones. I hope you felt ok sharing your weight today - it's quite a challenging thing to do 'publicly' - but you've lost 3 stones and kept it off, so hopefully you already know quite a bit about losing weight, and can hopefully put together some of the things you know helped you to lose the previous weight, and maybe add things that will help you go forward.
You've mentioned the NHS plan guidelines and Myfitnesspal, so I know you're already aware of those. I would recommend having a really good read round the forum, and posting and interacting with people - and then hopefully you'll be able to share your knowledge, and also gain knowledge from other's experiences.
Hopefully this group support will be positive and supportive - and we'll look forward to seeing you at next Monday's weigh-in - hopefully lighter than today!
Sorry to hear about your gain Lowcal - as you say just put it behind you and move on. Now it's getting a bit chillier soup sounds like a really good idea. As I'm off work this week I may make some myself.
It's been a few weeks since I last weighed in - I realise that I am definitely a 'stress-eater'. The last two weeks have been very stressful in my workplace, additionally my little dog was very poorly and had to undergo several tests (thankfully she is completely fine now) and worst of all a friend's daughter was missing for several days (she has been found and is safe thank goodness). It sounds like I'm making excuses but I did not fully realise just how much food (especially sugar) is a crutch for me when under pressure. I can't remember how much I weighed last time I checked in but I think it was around 11 stones and 1 pound. Today I weigh 11 stones and 6.5 pounds so I think that's a whopping 5.5 pounds gain over two weeks(?)
As I said I am off work this week so am going to spend some time concentrating on eating healthily and exercising every day. I think there was a big thing in the news last week about us all practising being 'mindful' so I am going to be 'mindful' of what I put in my body this week. Also, the weather here is lovely, crisp Autumnal mornings full of beautiful colours - definitely the best time of year to get out for a few runs I think.
I hope everyone has a good week - happy Halloween!
Hi, I'm joining you all today for my weight loss journey. I have been putting it off for weeks and weeks but stepping on the scale this morning and seeing I am now officially 20 stone and 2 pounds has scared me so much I know I now have to do something to change this!! Thanks for listening and can't wait to join you all.
I'm Linda. Just found this online community which i hope will be supportive. I've downloaded the nhs weight loss guide which I hope is effective.
My BMI is 26 and I need to lose 14 kg in order to bring my BMI to 23. It feels insurmountable right now as I've been counting calories ( 1400 per week) for 8 weeks and have lost 2.5 kgs ( about 7 pounds) which feels very slow. I put this slow weight loss down to my age ( 51) and being post menopausal.
I try to keep positive -telling myself "you haven't put on weight, you have lost weight- keep going!"
Welcome- you will get support here. Whichever way you look at it- you have lost half a stone- well done!!!
Bank that half stone and concentrate on the next half stone. We all lose weight to different timescales- I have been battling for a half stone loss since the summer.
I have lost 2lbs this week. It could have been more but that damn wine kept smiling at me every time I opened the fridge! more will power needed to not have a drink at the weekends.
Don't keep the wine in the fridge! You can freeze it (put cap on loosely to allow for expansion in freezing process) and then defrost when you next plan to drink it. Better still, freeze in individual portions.
I'm freshly back on the diet train from today so I hope to be posting my success next week. I'll be keeping to around 1400 per day and trying to increase my excerise. I'm not very good at structured classes etc so I will be looking to walk more and in general sit down less. Wish me luck!
Morning I've gained 0.6lb on my week one I'm afraid. Day one was good - I wrote everything down and was shocked how much I consume! Day two, I'd been through my menu and cut out quite a bit while including plenty of protein and fruit/veg etc. Then my cold and cough made me feel terrible so I'm now on my second jar of honey, to go with the lemons, and paracetemol, hot Baileys (knocks you out for a decent sleep!!) Am feeling lots better so am back on week one again - am writing everything down including the spoons of honey - 55 calories a teaspoon!! One good thing though, have got better with no help from the doctor ie didn't get a chest infection etc, so feeling quite proud that I must be quite healthy. So will make me healthier and smaller over the next few weeks Now the clocks have changed, I will do my exercise dvd, but I'm not starting that until next week when I'm 100%
Hi all, I weighed 12 stone 1 pound last week, today I weigh 12 stone, so a surprising 1 pound loss considering I've had a really crappy week, hoping this week is much better in all ways!!
End of week one and very happy to have lost two pounds this week, helped along by reading everyone's posts on this site, thank you! Looking forward to week two, Chrissie
Thank you for your kind words. Yes, I do hope it will be better next Monday for me, and that I'll be able to report a loss on the scales - hopefully 2 pounds...!
Congratulations to you for losing 1.25 pounds this week. You're getting near a half-stone marker, in terms of working your way down the 10's.
Yes, here's to positivity to all of us. Positivity of spirit, and losses of weight and measurements would be the perfect recipe.
Good morning everyone.I had a bad week and gained 2 pounds ,but by today managed to lose it again.Started counting calories again over the weekend so I'm going to try and be sensible this week.I know I can do it if I really want to x
I hope you've changed your clock, as it's the afternoon now, and I see you just wrote that 5 minutes ago. Sorry to hear you had a bad week and gained 2 pounds, but it's fantastic that you've managed to lose it again by today! So Congratulations!!! You obviously took action over the weekend and started counting those calories again, and it sounds like it was a very positive action to take - it got you back on track!
You're sounding motivated, and that's going to really help you stay on track, all being well.
Time can fly by sometimes, and I have to admit I feel slightly disorientated by the clock's changing. I think you're doing well, so hopefully you'll have another good week ahead.
Hello Low cal and everyone ; it is amazing to read everyone`s journey and the support and kindness is incredible, I only joined you all last week and am so pleased to join in the monday weigh in, I was 18. 2 last week but today weighed 17.11 so feel very happy with my loss 5pounds yey:-), i know its my first week so next week will be lots less but am so happy to get a good start.
I am delighted i found you all and thank you for the great inspiration
Glad you're feeling very happy today, and I think it's fantastic that you've lost 5 pounds in your first week - really really great!!!
I am also delighted that you found us, and it's great to have you as part of our group - we'll look forward to hearing how you get on next week, and I hope you have another great week ahead. Like you said, the first week is usually the week of greater loss, and it often settles down to smaller amounts in subsequent weeks, but everyone's different, so it could vary.
Thank you Lowcal really appreciate your post , I am for once feeling much more relaxed about just simply losing weight slowly for my health as that is declining, but rather than endless types of diets that make me yo-yo ,i am going to count calories to suit my bmi and see if i can regain control on the battle of food and the guilt. I am so impressed as this forum makes me realize there are so many of us having the same struggle and the help here you and others are giving is priceless.
Yes, it can be difficult with the colder snuggly days - but I've found that turning to a comforting bowl of soup can be really good - also wanted to Congratulate you on the transition of getting into the 17's - those changes are really motivating.
This is a great forum, there are so many people with similar experiences and they are extremely supportive - it's great.
Look forward to catching up with you again next week, and round and about in the forum.
I love it as it really keeps me busy being on here and stops me going to hunt for snacks and eat mindlessly Thank you so much for the fab support Lowcal it is lovely as you have a way of making people feel very much a part of things straight away.
I am week 2 and my fruit bowl is full waiting to catch me if i try and sneak to the biccys!
It's about 5.15pm, and I'm going to do some cooking now. I'll pop back now and again this evening, and the other Fab 5'ers may also pop by - so keep posting, and one or more of us will get back to you. Enjoy your evenings!
Really enjoying today's thread - you're all inspiring as always!
i hope you enjoyed your meal, tomorrow is another day and you will be soon back on track lowcal. I too put on a pound this week, but hey, it's the start of another week, best foot forward x
I did enjoy the meal, and I'm looking forward to my evening meal now - as it's baking in the oven at this very minute - salmon steak and a vegetable and wholemeal pasta bake to go with it - lots of coloured peppers (green, red and yellow) plus onions and garlic, tomatoes and aubergine plus some vintage cheese for a tasty topping. Really looking forward to it.
You're right, tomorrow is another day, and I hope to be on track.
Sorry to hear you also put on a pound this week - I hope you know why that happened, and I hope you lose it again very soon - like you say, best foot forward - wishing you a great week ahead. Hope you're still enjoying your running - I know you were feeling really happy about being able to run for 25 minutes without stopping, that is an achievement, and I hope you're still enjoying it.
Thanks lowcal, I don't think that I have been as careful with my calorie counting, however, completed week 7 of c25k and ran run 1 of week 8 so very pleased with that, 28 mins of running non stop! I may have put on a pound which I am hoping to lose this week but I have managed the first run of week 8 so very happy. Your dinner sounds very yummy!
You're improving week by week on your running - that is really great - running for 28 minutes non-stop is brilliant. Sometimes weight gain can be caused by fluid retention from doing more exercise - I don't know the right terms to express that, but don't let that 1 pound gained put you off - hopefully it will soon be off again. You'll be getting fitter from the exercise, and you sound like you're really enjoying it, and that's lovely to hear.
Evening, well i've been hit with a chest infection and hubby has taken over the cooking, it means a bit more butter in the mash, no weighing of food etc and I've stayed the same, which has surprised me as I've not eaten much but then haven't done my usual 5 miles/day. I'm back in the driving seat from today so hopefully next week will see it move in the right direction. I hope everyone else is doing ok and wish you all a good healthy week
So sorry to hear you've had a chest infection, that is awful. Glad your husband cooked for you, and that you managed to maintain your weight despite being ill and not being in control of your food intake as much.
Great that you're back in the driving seat again, and hopefully you're feeling better health-wise too.
Evening lowcal, the rest of thr fab 5 and all the other lovely losers š
Sorry to hear you've gained this week lowcal, good plan to get back on board with the exercises as these will surely help with the weight loss. I've never tried cauliflower soup, might have to give it a whirl.
Today marks the first day of week 13!, so I've officially completed the 12 week plan but plan to keep going for as long as it takes to get to my goal weight.
I have lost 2.5lbs this week, no doubt helped by lots of swimming, which I am thoroughly enjoying. I have lost a total of 16.75lb in 12 weeks which I a ecstatic about and very proud of myself. Hopefully this will help me to continue with my weight loss and eventually get to goal.
Hope you all have a fantastic week, I'm off swimming again at 7.30pm so will catch up with you all when I get back.
Good evening, and thanks for your kind wishes. Regarding cauliflower soup, I've not decided what to blend it with yet - might choose a bit of vintage cheese, or might go for carrots and cayenne pepper - might have a look online for potential recipes.
Congratulations to you for losing 2.5 pounds this week, and for officially completing the NHS 12 week plan - you're into week 13 now, and glad you're going to be keeping going till you reach your goal weight. You're doing really well. Losing a total of 16.75 pounds in 12 weeks is fantastic!!!
Great that you're going swimming tonight - hope you have a lovely swim, and wishing you another great week ahead.
This is my first time on this thread, following advice from the lovely moreless!
I've had a bit of a wobbly time lately, and moreless hit the nail on the head when she suggested that it was easier to 'cheat', when I'm not being held accountable!!!
So, goodbye fortnightly weigh ins, hello weekly weigh in thread!!!
So here come the stats!
Start weight 7 weeks ago= 19st 6lb.
Last weigh in weight = 18st 7lb
Todays weight =18st 6.5lb
Total loss since lady weigh in 0.5lb
So, 0.5lb lost in the past 2 weeks. Not great but a loss, none the less - so I'm happy with that!
I'm re-starting the 12week plan to try and get over my wobble. Today had been rather good 3 healthy meals today and I'm still 500 calories sort of my target /max calories intake for the day
I'm so happy that Moreless encouraged you to join us in the Monday weigh-in group thread. I know I commented that you shouldn't feel swayed to join us, as I knew you were doing your fortnightly weigh-ins, but secretly I'm thrilled you've decided to join us - you are very welcome.
You've shared your starting weight, and I hope that felt ok to do so. It's great that you've lost 0.5 pounds in the past 2 weeks - I imagine Ruth will divide that by 2 so that we have a result for a single week, so 0.25 pound. I like to say these things out loud so she finds it a bit easier when she's going through the thread to do the stats. Hopefully making it a bit easier for her, but I know she doesn't need help - she's more than capable!
Sounds like you've had an excellent day today with your 3 healthy meals, and still 500 calories short of your target/max calorie intake for the day.
Look forward to seeing you next Monday to see how you're getting on - at least one of the Fab 5'ers responds to everyone, and so one of us will be here to respond to you.
Good luck, and wishing you another great week ahead.
Great to see you, and well done for maintaining your weight this week. I know you were hoping for a loss on the scales, but it's better to maintain than gain, and you have only recently gone back to work following your surgery, so please be kind to yourself. The stress of that could have made you hold onto some weight.
Have a word with yourself if you want to of course, but I would say encourage your word to be a nice sunny encouraging one - like your lovely icon's smiley face - I hope things went well being back at work, and I hope you have a good week ahead. Hopefully you'll see a loss on the scales, or a change in your measurements very soon.
I'm down this week to 11stone 11. Haven't weighed in for three weeks and I was last at 12 stone so I calculate that as a pound a week.
Sorry I've been a bit AWOL. I'm dating somebody new, and it's all been a bit distracting! I had a slightly off week last week but other than that, I've been working really hard. Not been easy though.
Congratulations for losing 3 pounds since your last weigh-in 3 weeks ago, and like you say, that's a very consistent rate of 1 pound per week - really good! You're in the 11's - wow!!!
Also, very pleased to hear you're dating somebody new, and I can understand you've been pleasantly distracted.
Well done for achieving such great results, and I can appreciate it's not necessarily an easy path - can be challenging, but you're doing great, and we'll look forward to catching up with you again.
Yay - good luck with the new person in your life and congrats on continuing to lose the lbs in the meantime. Was wondering where you'd been and now I know
Hi all, hoping this post will submit as I can't download the thread fully at the mo..
I've stayed the same this week @ 17st7 - this is actually OK for me as my hubby has been refurbing the kitchen and normal mealtimes have taken a backseat :/
Hope everyone is doing OK, I'll try to get onto the thread for a read around tomorrow..
Great to see you. Your post has submitted ok - sorry you've had difficulty downloading the thread.
Congratulations on maintaining your weight this week, especially as your hubby is refurbing your kitchen and therefore your mealtimes are taking a backseat. Hope it all goes well, and you can be back to normal again soon, with a lovely refurbished kitchen.
Hope you can download the thread tomorrow, so you can enjoy a read around.
Just to let you know I'm off to bed now, but I'll check tomorrow morning for any late night weighers, or late weighers, just incase we've missed anyone today - so please do post your weigh-ins - there may be some Fab 5-ers still up, and you will get a response tomorrow otherwise.
Really great thread today. Night night. I know Garfield_123 is due to weigh tomorrow morning, and also Ruth_Canal_Runner (lovely Fab 5'er), so good luck to you both for a good weigh-in.
This is my first post. I did really well losing 3 stone and then have been totally stuck at 11st 10 for the last 18 months with another 3 stone to go. The weight is now starting to creep on, and I am up now to 9st 3lb. I so don't want to be back where I was. I exercise lots and am really good during the day, then I slip up every night with bread, chocolate and crisps. I need to make a real go of it this time. I have done it before so I should be able to do it again. Weighed in Monday for the first time and am hoping you guys can help me.
Looking forward positively to being part of the group.
First of all, well done for losing 3st, that's awesome!
I'm a little confused, you've said you stuck at 11st 10lb for 18 months and have now crept up to 9st 3lb, should that be 12st 3lb and the 9st was wishful thinking?
You have definitely come to the right place, this group is absolutely amazing!
A very warm welcome, and it's great that you've joined the Monday group weigh-in - I've read that you are actually 12 stone 3 pounds currently, and I hope that felt ok to share your weight. Congratulations for having already lost 3 pounds previously, and I know you're concerned about re-gaining - hopefully today's weight will be your heaviest from now on in - and you will be able to get down to your more 'wishful' goal.
Many of us use the NHS 12 week plan, and I would recommend having a look at it if you've not already done so - let me know if you want help to access it, but basically you can click on the icon called 'Weight Loss NHS' (top middle of screen) and follow the link pages to find the 12 week downloadable plan. I use an app called Myfitnesspal to help me to track my calories and exercise, and also keep an eye on my macronutrient levels - it's really helpful and makes it really easy.
I think the support from this group is really good - fantastic people here, and Moreless is a prime example of one of such lovely people! She is always welcoming and enthusiastic, and you'll hopefully get to know people in the group as you join in - it's a social post, and we encourage interactions between people - hence the ever-growing size of the thread. If you read the whole of my first post on this week's thread, you can see how the group works - although just reading it, you can see for yourself how it goes.
The only downside to that is that the system can get a bit slow and glitchy sometimes, but hopefully it will continue to support us with our Monday weigh-in.
Wishing you a great first week, and hope you are closer to the 11's by next week, all being well.
We all need to dream, 9st 3 will be a reality before you know it
Hi Lowcal, struggling to post on here from my phone! Ive inexplicably lost 2lbs this morning, down to 10st2. But not too worried as its still within my maintaining range, so I guess its a bonus. Hope your weight loss gets on track okay this week, sounds like you did well, don't see how one dinner out could do that much damage. Have faith in the process, and keep doing those exercises! Hope this posts, here goes...
Hi Ruth (lovely Fab 5-er and fantastic stats woman!),
Glad you managed to post, despite the difficulties doing it from your phone. Congratulations on losing 2 pounds - amazing what can happen when you least expect it...! Great that you're sticking within your maintaining range. You're doing really great!
I've discovered what my gain was due to - as I unexpectedly started my TOM very late last night - I'd been feeling slightly 'out of sorts' all day, but didn't know why - now I completely understand why - I couldn't understand how that 1 meal out and extra slice of cake could do so much damage, and now I think that Kitkat's comment about hormonal fluid retention was very apt for me!
I'm going to keep up the exercises - thanks for the encouragement.
Hope you have a great week, and well done for your excellent maintaining.
A very warm welcome - thanks so much for joining us - it's great that you weighed yesterday (Monday), and thanks for sharing your weight - I hope it felt ok to do so. It can be a big step to do that. Hopefully this will be the heaviest you'll be - and you'll be lighter by next Monday.
Many of us are doing the NHS 12 week plan, so I would recommend that to you - you can access it via the icon in the middle top of the screen (Weight Loss NHS) and follow the links to the downloadable 12 week plan. It's got lots of good advice and an excellent structure. I'd also recommend using an app like Myfitnesspal to track your calories and exercise. It helps to make that very easy, and you can also look at your micronutrients to ensure you're getting a good balance of foods.
It can also be good to set smaller targets to achieve as you go along - several people have set a Christmas challenge for example (and Sueper has done a Christmas challenge post, if you want to get involved in that).
There are also other threads that are quite motivating - take a look around the forum and you'll see. There's a kicking the Km challenge (by Lizzy with lots of numbers after her name), and that looks good - I've just joined that myself, and I'm looking forward to seeing how many kms I will have walked by next Monday.
Anyway, I hope you enjoy this forum, and it's great to have you as part of our Monday Group weigh-in. Look forward to catching up with you next Monday. In the meantime - wishing you a great first week.
Hey thanks for the welcome, Il try give it a download but I just gotta cut out eating junk by the bucket load and il hopefully be ok looking forward to next weight date!
I just started the 12 week plan yesterday, my start weight is 17st and I'd like to get down to 12st 7lbs - altho that might take a wee bit longer than 12 weeks!
I hope you felt ok sharing your starting weight, and I see you're already on the cusp of the 16's, so hopefully you'll be into the 16's and leaving those 17's behind by next week's Monday weigh-in.
You've chosen your ultimate target weight, and it's good that you're allowing yourself a good rate to reach it - slow and steady is healthy and sustainable, and most of us break our goals down to achievable chunks - e.g. maybe thinking about what weight you'd like to achieve by Christmas, or by the end of a particular month, or by the date of a special event - things like that.
Hope you're enjoying the NHS 12 week plan so far, and wishing you a great first week.
Look forward to catching up with you next week, and hopefully around and about on the forum inbetween.
Hi Lowcal & everyone, commiserations on your weight gain but at least you enjoyed your meal and cakes and know where the gain came from.
I have been missing for a few months been ill but now I am on the mend decided to do the 12 weeks from the begining. Over the past few months of inactivity I have put on about 9lbs, weight today is 247lbs (put my scales to lbs so that I know exactly what I loose or gain!). Back to the armchair aerobics!
Will log in on Monday and let you know how I get on.
Good luck everyone
š¢ it may take us a while but we'll get there š
So sorry to hear you've been ill, but glad to hear you're now on the mend - and it's great that you're back with us again - you've got your new starting weight, and that you're back to armchair aerobics.
We'll look forward to catching up with you on Monday, and hopefully you'll be lighter than today and feeling good.
Yes, we'll get there in the end - slow and steady is good.
I know this is a few days late, but I've only just come across this!
I started the 12 week plan on Monday, after being unpleasantly surprised when I stepped on the scales this weekend. I'm currently 12 st, and I'd like to get that down to 10st at least- if not the lovely 9st I remember being!
A very warm welcome, and thanks for joining us - it's good you found our thread, and we love having new people joining in.
I hope you felt ok sharing your weight, and you're already on the cusp of the 11's, so hopefully you might be into the 11's by Monday, and on your way towards your ultimate goal. It can be good to set yourself mini goals and targets to achieve along the way - e.g. how much you'd like to lose by Christmas, or by another time scale or occasion.
If you've not seen the NHS 12 week plan yet, I'd recommend taking a look - it's very good - let me know if you need help finding it - but you should be able to access it via the icon in the top middle of the screen entitled 'Weight Loss NHS' and then clicking on link pages till you find the 12 week downloadable programme. Using an app to help you track calories and exercise can also help - something like Myfitnesspal, which is free and easy to use, and also helps you track macronutrient levels too.
Wishing you a great week!
Look forward to catching up with you at next Monday's weigh-in, and hopefully around and about in the forum.
Lowcal
Hi, sorry I missed Monday, I have been traveling with work... I did however get weighed very early Monday morning and came in at 18st 13 lbs, a loss of 3 lbs over the week and my first journey into the 18's in many a year....... Hopefully not done too much damage with being away from my routine.....
Thanks for checking in with us, and we'll include your stats, as you did weigh on Monday morning. Congratulations on losing 3 pounds and for achieving the transition into the 18's for the first time in many a year - that is really exciting, and I'm thrilled for you!
Hope you coped with the travelling, and like you say, all will be revealed on Monday - so look forward to catching up with you then.
