Last Monday I weighed 13 stone 4.6 pounds and today I weigh 13 stone 4.2 pounds, so I've lost 0.4 pound this week. Really glad to have lost something - however small, it is a loss!!! The other thing I feel happy about is that I finally managed to get to the gym. I only did the one session, but it was better than the previous week when I didn't manage to get there. I enjoyed the gym session, and hope to repeat it this week. I've also managed to go out for a walk most days, despite the rainy weather.
This week is going to be more challenging as I have 3 meals out to contend with. One is a lunch and two occasions are evening meals - I am hoping to choose sensibly from the menus and I am still hoping to lose some weight by next Monday. That is my goal - to lose something.
I hope you've all had a good week, and I hope you'll join me for this weigh-in to share your experiences. Looking forward to hearing from you.

Congratulations Lowcal, you must have felt good getting to the gym again and losing weight too. That's great, so you should be pleased. I hope this week of temptation along with further visits to the gym yields a positive result for next week. Plan your eating out menu in advance and tell yourself no bread rolls, no carbs and only fruit salad if it's on the menu. You can do it!
Well done to all you losers also and to those who didn't quite make it, let this be your week, be honest with yourself and ask if you really want to achieve weight loss before Xmas sets in. You can do it with a great frame of mind and have us all for support.
It's been another up and down week for me. On Thursday I met up with my Aunt & Uncle for lunch while they were passing through on their cruise liner. It was lovely to see them and I can report that I made some good food choices.
On a low, the sciatica I thought I had became progressively worse to very acute pain where I could hardly walk or lay down necessitating a trip to the local hospital. To cut a long story short when I fell the other week I damaged the muscles in my lower abdomen so am now on anti-inflammatories, muscle relaxants and a strong pain relief. I am not to exercise for a month at least but can at least now walk a little way which I shall try to increase daily.
On another low, I felt extremely sorry for myself and started to "nibble" late afternoons because I was tired and I wasn't sleeping with the pain BUT I gave myself a talking to and nipped that in the bud pretty smartish!
Despite all, I have lost 2lbs this week so over the moon as this now takes me to a 4 stone and 1 lb weight loss and my wonderful husband rewarded me with a fabulous Desigual belt of his choice (eat your heart out Prin!!!) I now have only 4 lbs to lose before going down into the 13's so aim to be there in two weeks if possible.
It's quite exciting as I am now almost beginning to believe in myself and that I will soon be starting to think about a final goal weight, something that I haven't even dared to consider. Feeling good considering!
Your post is inspiring. Firstly, I am so sorry to hear that your sciatica has got worse and that you have been suffering from very acute pain - that must be really difficult to cope with. Congratulations on losing 2 pounds, despite all of that - you have done so well to lose 4 stone and 1 pound in total - that's amazing. Really well done.
Great that your husband treated you to that new Desigual belt. To be honest, I have no idea what one of those is - I may have to google it to find out!
Well done for keeping a positive and inspiring spirit, despite the challenges that have come your way. Hope your pain subsides soon so you can get some relief and sleep better.
Wishing you a good week ahead, and thanks for your encouraging words.
Hi and welcome. This is a great forum, so glad you have joined us. Thanks for the advice and yes I have a tens machine but it's only what I thought was sciatica to start with but I was wrong, it's damaged muscle rather than the sciatic nerve. I could always give the tens unit a go though to see if it helps! Thanks for that and good luck with your weight loss X
Oh we all have bad days! Put it aside and get back on track. Try not to buy the things you can be tempted by, perhaps have some nuts or something on standby that you can reach out for when the brain would kill for calories (or you would kill someone for calories!!!) Even prepare a tea plate of mixed fresh fruits arranged, sliced, chopped beautifully etc and covered with cling film for those snack attacks. I'm not saying don't indulge once in a while but I bet you didn't buy just one mini pork pie and there are others or were others around!
Really happy to hear you've had another loss and that you got to the gym and that you've gotten out walking.
Last week I weighed 15st 8lbs and this week I weigh 15 st 5 lbs so have lost 3lbs. In the last month I've also lost 2 inches off my hips and waist.
I have ate really badly this week but done a lot of exercise, I have walked 4 miles a day mon-fri, 8 miles on sat and 9 miles on sun. I have also done Jillian Michaels 30 day shred level 1 5 times this week. I can feel muscles now, still hidden under a layer of fat but I'm definitely changing shape
My goal for next week is to lose a pound, this will take me to a 3 stone weightloss. I have been going for at this now for 6.5 months, I will be really happy to hit that milestone next week and i'm pretty sure Jillian will get me there.
I hope you are able to follow candystripes advice regarding the meals out and are able to plan healthier choices in advance. Good luck with your gym sessions
I am really happy that you've lost 3 pounds this week - that's phenomenal. Great that you've also lost 2 inches off your hips and waist. Brilliant!
It's great that you've done so much exercise - great that you're noticing a change in body shape and developing those muscles. I'm sure Jillian will help you to get to your goal next week.
I agree that Candystripe gave some excellent advice regarding eating out - I am definitely going to take those suggestions on board.
Hope to get back to the gym in the next couple of days!
Good lossses so far today despite some challenges, well done everyone.
Since a fortnight ago I've lost 2lbs, so I'm now only 2lbs over my goal weight (131 lbs). So I'm pretty happy. I did it by logging my food and alcohol very faithfully on myfitnesspal, and by stepping up the running. I've entered another half marathon so that's given me a concrete reason to get out there and run.
Kate - Jillian Michaels is great! When I did the 30 day shred I loved how toned I became! I hope you carry on enjoying her.
Fantastic to hear you've lost 2 pounds in the last fortnight - that's brilliant! Wow, you are so close to your goal weight!
Great to hear you've signed up for another half marathon - that is really motivating. I am looking forward to hearing how Suzybenj got on this Sunday - she ran her half marathon then I believe.
OK - hello - first time on here - and first time I've weighed myself in a while - jeans really tight this morning!! 12:12!! - I've been focussing on my soul and not my waistline for a while!! : ) Now my soul is repaired I'll address my waistline!
Glad to hear your soul is repaired after some tender loving care, and hopefully now your waistline will follow suit - you've taken the brave step of weighing today, and hopefully you'll have a great first week ahead. Have you seen the NHS weight loss pages? There's a 12 week structured plan and lots of tips for helping you to lose weight and live healthily.
Hope you see you again next week for a weigh-in, and have a great week.
Good morning all well done to all the losers and good luck to all the new starters.
I decided last Monday to resume c25k at week 4 which is where I left it in July (to my shame). It was cold, windy and pouring with rain when I set off so my pooch refused to leave the house. The run was horrible I never really warmed through and I developed a blister as my trainers got so wet!! Anyway I managed to finish the run and felt I had achieved something. I did the same run 3 more times up to last night, plus daily 4-6k walks and 3hours of taekwondo.
I thrilled this morning to weigh in and have lost 3lbs
It's the hardest thing in the world to lose weight and it feels like a thankless task but I'm really happy to have the support of this forum to keep me going.
Many congratulations on your 3 pound loss, and I am amazed by your exercise achievements this week - you have done so much! I know you suffered with the blister and being cold on your run, but you persevered and you've achieved excellent weight loss as a result. That is inspiring! Good luck with the c25K and hope your pooch will join you for subsequent runs!
Well done Kate and congratulations on such determination. It is difficult isn't it especially when even the weather is against you but not entirely thankless when you can buy new clothes or even fit into old ones and feel good. At the time of torment though it doesn't always feel that way! My theory is that once I have worked hard to lose that one pound there is no way that I am going have to lose that same blooming pound again through my own stupidity!
Thanks Candystripe, your losses are amazing! I'm only just finding in me the little voice saying "if you go home and open a bottle of cava now..." it's getting louder and louder though Kate x
& well done to all. Looks like you've had a great week weight loss wise. Nice one Lowcal for getting back to the gym. And Candystripe - you are an inspiration.
I've had a rather odd week. I virtually gave up completely. Went back to all the old eating habbits on at least 2 days and did very little exercise indeed - but - I managed to lose 2lbs. I really can't fathom it - I checked the scales 3 times this morning - but hey, I'm certainly not complaining. Will try to get below the 11st mark this week. Then I'll be back to where I was about 6 wks ago when I reached the end of my beginners luck.
My ups and downs over the last few weeks have meant that I now don't stand a chance of losing what I wanted to before christmas so I'm going to have to re-evaluate my goals. Think I'll just have to take it a week at a time - but it really does inspire to hear folk like Burntsun who only have a couple of lbs to get to their goal. Well done you!
Here's to a good week for all and hopefully a slightly less painful one for you Candysripe. ps I did look on the website...... oh dear ... I'm going to get on with some work now and try to forget about all those lovely things I've just seen. eek!
I am so pleased that you managed to lose 2 pounds this week, despite feeling that you had resorted to old eating habits. Really glad that happened, and that you didn't gain. I think it does help to take things one week at a time, and just persevere and keep going - it can be hard but it's worth it in the end.
Hope you have a good week ahead, so you can get into the 10's.... that would be very exciting and definitely achievable so you go for it!
Congratulations and so well done for getting back on track. You know Ruth, my theory is that you have trick those enzymes into working a little harder. Sometimes I find that I need to up my calories by 100-200 for two days only and then back to the usual routine. Throughout my 17 weeks (so far) I have never gained weight or stayed the same (so far!) albeit 1/2 lb loss only. I haven't looked at it scientifically just through rationale so can't say this is the reason why, but maybe it works for you too!
I am so lucky as I can pop into the Desigual store here in Lisbon BUT sadly we will be moving on at the end of the month and then my husband says that he will be gaining £'s not pounds!!!
Good luck for the coming week and stay on target for Xmas!
Hi LowCal, A loss is better than a gain and with going to the gym and the walks I'm sure you will see the results next week. When you go out this week just try and make healthly choices.
I lost 2.2lb this week making a total of 23lb in 11 weeks which I was pleased with as the previous week I had a fall and couldn't do as much exercise this week.
Congratulations to you for losing 2.2 pounds this week - that's really great! Wow - 23 pounds in 11 weeks, that's great progress, and especially as you weren't able to do much exercise this week. Hope you're feeling better now after your fall, and that you are enjoying the week so far.
Here's to another positive week ahead.
Lowcal
Well done. Iv lostc3lbs this month and been going to zumba twice a week got to try some thing different .
Congratulations to you on losing 3 pounds this month - that's really great. Zumba sounds like fun - hope you're still enjoying it. Sounds like great exercise.
Hope you have another good week ahead, and thanks for joining in this weigh-in.
Today was my weigh in after one week of consciously dieting...I have lost 2.5lbs, new weight is 13st 2.5lbs. I'm pleased with that! Found the NHS website really helpful. Well done everyone, wherever you're at. It's so inspiring to read how so many of you have lost so much weight - wow! I hope I can do as well. Lowcal, I wonder if this will help with your meals out.... I read in a magazine recently about using visualisation to help weight loss. Imagine yourself in the restaurant, picture yourself choosing healthy options and finding it really easy and enjoyable so that when you are faced with the decision in 'real life' because of your previous visualisation your brain will think you have done it all before so it will be easier to do again. (sorry if you know this tip already). Hope that helps. Right, off for a swim. Can't think too much about it otherwise I will talk myself out of it!
Congratulations on losing 2.5 pounds this week - your first week, and a brilliant result. Really well done! Glad you've found the NHS website to be helpful.
I really like your visualisation suggestion for the meal rehearsal, and I'll give it a go! Thank you! Hope you're enjoying your swim, and that you're hopefully swimming and enjoying it.
Well done for making it to the gym lowcal. Good luck for the week ahead. I lost 2lbs this week which I'm really happy about. I hope to maintain this week as I'm away for a conference over the weekend so wont have a lot of options on my food choices and won't be able to make it to the gym as much.
Congratulations to you for losing 2 pounds this week. Really great!
I hope your Conference goes well, and that you're able to maintain your weight. I hope they'll provide you with some healthy food choices during that Conference.
Well done all. I have lost another 1 1/2 taking me to 2lbs above my goal weight. Now 14 size top and 12 bottom. Might go for another 7lbs loss. That will put me in the middle of my healthy weight range for my height. I fear adapting to maintenance might be harder than actual dieting..Having kicked smoking and my weight problem, I know I can do this, bring it on....
Congratulations on losing 1.5 pounds this week - that is really great! You are so close to your goal weight now - that is really good. You've not only coped with stopping smoking, but you are within the normal BMI range, and both of those are very healthy changes.
so its been a couple of weeks since ive given an update. last week i lost a total of 1.8lbs bringing me to a weight of 12.11.4st and a total loss of 1 stone 2lbs! i have even managed to go 2 days without smoking! Very pleased with myself, i have let the strict diet go a bit for a few weeks but i still keep managing to loose! I would still like to loose another 11lbs before christmas to bring me to my goal but im still happy to have lost my first stone!
Congratulations on losing 1.8 pounds last week - that's really great. Wow, you've lost 1 stone 2 pounds in total - that is inspiring. Well done! Great to hear you went 2 days without smoking as well.
You have set yourself a good goal to work towards before Christmas, and having lost your first stone, you're well on the way towards it.
Hope you have another great week ahead.

Hi Lowcal
Well done on your weight loss this week, as you said any weight loss is good - my WeightWatcher leader sometimes uses visual props like a bag containing half or a pound of lard so we can see just how much fat we have actually lost when we grumble about 'a small loss this week'. If you can visualise half a pound of fat its more a case of 'wow Thats half a pound less that I have to lose'. Psychology at work!
Last Monday I gained 2.5 lbs due to the side effects of strong painkillers I sometimes have to take, bless her - my WW leader understood as she takes the same painkiller so she actually wrote on my records that my gain was due to painkillers. I am glad to say that yesterday I recorded 2.5 lbs off. Yesterday was also my final voucher on the Health Solutions program (WW funded by local authority following GP referral) and my total loss is 29.5lbs... But the best was coming off my blood pressure meds half way through! That was the most amazing feeling, knowing my health has definitely benefitted from weight loss! I will be signing up next week as a paid member as the support and help has been amazing. This sort of weightloss program doesnt work for eveyone but it has for me.
My incentive has never been to wear smaller clothes or look better (though they are an added bonus). For me the journey is all about improving my health.
Thanks - I like your 'Psychology at work' - visualising half a pound of fat can be a very powerful thing to do.
It's great to hear that you were able to lose that extra 2.5 pounds that you'd put on due to the painkiller side-effects - that must be a relief to get rid of that again. Many Congratulations for losing 29.5 pounds in total - you have done really well! It's great that you've found a weight loss programme that works for you. You are improving your health, and you have the added bonus of looking better, and that's so great!
Hi gym police here from costa del sol, well done on getting back to the gym! And losing, enjoying a beer at a bar it's DH birthday today and I am at a bar with a beer, cava smoked salmon and scrambled eggs for breakfast ......my goal for this week is to get on the scales on Friday :(. (It took more than 10 days to lose the weight so it must take more than that to put it baçk on Surely?) have a good week folks'
Nee naw, nee naw, nee naw, oh hi Prin!!! So glad you are having a good time. That's my kind of breakfast, I could live on smoked salmon and eggs! You are so right......it can't possibly take 10 days to put it back on so don't worry! Might have to vote you off though if you come back with a soggy bottom! So glad you're having a good time even though the weather down the road in Portugal is c**p!
Great to see you today! Congratulations on your 1 pound loss this week - that's really great. Sorry to hear you forgot your swimsuit - hopefully you can have that swim soon.
Late to the party girls! 10st 13lbs so pleased to be under 11, and I want to still be that on Monday! We are cutting out alcohol for November so I am hoping for big things there
Great to see you! Congratulations for remaining under 11 stone, that is fantastic. You've done well to do that, despite being on your holidays! I'm sure that cutting out alcohol for November will make a big difference! There are so many calories in most alcoholic drinks.
Have a great weekend and hope you are still under 11 stone on Monday!
