get an exercise bike. I used to walk to lose weight but i'm not a fan of walking at dawn in the mornings. It only cost 90Ā£ from argos it folds away and you can lose 1000 calories in no time while watching tv :)

ā€¢ in reply toelin15

Hi Elin - kicking the kms comes in many different guises. We would welcome your exercise bike kms. Do you have a target for the week? šŸ˜ƒšŸ˜ƒ

elin15 profile image
elin15ā€¢ in reply to

hello! I'm new here. What does kms mean? My target is to shed 1kg on the bike, it is my first week with the bike. So far I had been losing 1 kg a week from walking 8 miles a day but I changed the routine due to the darkish weather :) I'll be happy to post updates. Good luck everyone!!!!!!!!!!!!

ā€¢ in reply toelin15

Kilometres. Or happy with miles or steps and I will do the conversion. Does your bike tell you how far you've cycled? Just need to add them up and give me your total achieved next Monday. You could give a target to aim for. šŸ˜ƒšŸ˜ƒšŸ˜ƒ

elin15 profile image
elin15ā€¢ in reply to

ohhh ok. It is in kms.

Yesterday I did a total of 43.95 kms in 2 45 minute sessions. Losing 1000 calories.

Today I did a total of 55.40 kms. losing 1261 calories. in 2 one hour sessions

I guess my aim is to continue doing an average of 50 km per day losing 1000 calories as my body feels comfortable with that. I'll let you guys know the outcome! :)

ā€¢ in reply toelin15

Wow so you cycle alot of kms per day. Well done you :) :)

ā€¢ in reply toScoobaSteve

15km is better than 15cm !!! All I did as a student was walk to the bar!!!

Well done for the 40km Lizzie, it's a good job you're on the team :)

I'm afraid I only managed 23.2km. I had a bit of a blowout with the arthritis in my feet and haven't been able to walk much. I was really disappointed, as on Thursday I managed 5.6km, which is my furthest in one go, but I obviously overdid it, hence the probs with my feet.

However, all is not lost, I've started on new tablets and am hoping they'll enable me to have a better week this week.

Good luck everyone :)

ā€¢ in reply tomoreless

23.2 kms is a fantastic result. Sorry to hear about your feet. Hope the tablets sort them out šŸ˜ƒšŸ˜ƒ

Good morning Lizzy! Hi fellow Kickers...!

You are good - very well done on another 40k.

I missed last week as I've been away - but this has been good for the km kicking... as I did 46631 paces last week.

And another 49048 paces this week (and I ran about 500 of these - in the dark of course!).

Target next week is to do 40000 paces as I'm back to real life properly now!!

Good luck for next week.

Psychics anon??

ā€¢ in reply tomoreless

It was Halloween ... so may be that was my problem. I'm over it now. Back to walking!

ā€¢ in reply to

That is indeed very impressive. I calculate the kms approx;

7.5kms x 4.46 = 33.45kms.

šŸ˜ƒšŸ˜ƒšŸ˜ƒšŸŽƒ

ā€¢ in reply to

Hi Lizzy can I ask - how do you do your calculations?

It would be good to know how to do the calculation.... ie 33kms sounds lovely but probably like something that someone like yourself (ExerciseGoddess383040 perhaps!) would have done rather than moi (Runningonlyindark)!

ā€¢ in reply to

Okay I base on my fitbit calculations. When I do 10,000 steps/paces, Fitbit calculates it as 7.5km. You did 46,631. So I divided 46,631 by 10,000 = 4.66 (ooh missed 0.02 in last post) and then multiply by 7.5km = a very impressive and exercise godess like 34.95km. Woohoo :) :)

ā€¢ in reply to

And certainly sounds better in km too....!

Thanks so much Lizzy. Now understand the 7.5 in your calculations too.

Thanks also for my missing 0.2 - bound to be critical!

Have a good day!

Morning all and congratulations on all those kms kicked :-) I understand from catching up on the thread from last week that moreless's pedometer has also been kicked into the dust - and not for the right reasons :-D You are just going to have to learn to count in numbers over 10, moreless !

Well, as I was away last week I'm reporting for the last two weeks, minus the week or so away in the middle. I did 18km running and 20 km walking - total 38 km. I should have been measuring all the walking I did in York as that would have really bigged up the total and we seemed to be on our feet all day and I'm sure that mileage counts double if you have an eight year old tagging along asking when we are stopping for lunch/coffee/ice cream etc all day :-O

Anyway, I'm hoping to get my normal 45km total this week, work dependent. Good luck everyone and get those kms kicked (even you ScoobaSteve !!)

moreless profile image
morelessAdministrator7 stoneā€¢ in reply to

I did try counting to 20, but it was too cold for my feet leaving my shoes off :)

Your totals are still impressive even excluding huge numbers from York. Good luck with the 45km this week (I think ScoobaSteve's taken root on his sofa ;) )

ā€¢ in reply to

Thanks Lizzy - if I counted the kms we walked I'd also have to count the calories I ate - and I reckon the ice cream chocolate milkshake with the shot of rum on top of the welsh rarebit burger would have probably been a weeks worth - so I'm ignoring it !! (Obviously the milkshake wasn't really 'on top' of the burger because that would be disgusting, before some smart alec <cough-moreless-cough> pipes up :-) )

Hi, would like to join as I am getting a bit complacent šŸ˜

Would just like to up my walking a bit more, so I won't overly try this week so I try and see what an average week looks like - and then try and up that next week ( or is it better to set a target now?)

See what you do this week and report it next Monday then if you feel you can do more set a higher target. Good luck :)

Can I join too? I managed 53km this week. Looking back over my pedometer I usually walk between 30 and 50 miles a week so I'll aim for 35 miles this week (56KM).

Hi Lizzy, I fell just short of my 10 mile target but did a bit of dancing on Saturday night so I think that made up for it.

I have another chuffing cold so no target for this week as I missed my biggest walk yesterday. Problem is it is making me constantly hungry - grrrr!

I will still try to get out some evenings so I won't be a complete sloth!

Well done on your 40 km - I wonder how far we have all walked since you started this thread?

Sue x

As of last week, we had walked 800+ kms. Got to be at least 150kms this week šŸ˜ƒšŸ˜ƒšŸ˜ƒ

Hi Lizzy,

Your weigh-in wasn't disastrous - I challenge that suggestion! :-) Well done on your walking total - that is really good! :-)

I've just popped in to report on my kms for the week. It was definitely interesting to add up all the steps and convert to the kms, as per Lizzy's calculation that 10,000 steps = 7.5 km.

I have worked out that I walked 42 km this week, so that was a pleasant surprise! I didn't realise it would be that far.

I guess I will try to do a bit more next week. Or at least achieve a similar amount if I can. I probably did more walking than I usually do, as I felt inspired by knowing I'd be reporting it today!

This challenge is definitely motivating. Great to be a part of it.

Lowcal :-)

ā€¢ in reply toZest

Lowcal - great result at 42kms. Glad to hear you find the thread motivating - does the same for me šŸ˜ƒšŸ˜ƒšŸ˜ƒ

Last week was week one for me

I didn't weigh myself as I didn't want the result

But I weighed today and I am 12.1 stone

I estimated by start weight to be 12 stone

Not sure to have this week as my week 1

Weigh 12.1

Or be on week 2 and in week 1 I gained a pound.

I did brilliant for 6 days but on Sunday I went wild with too much wine and cheese

Here's to the next healthy week

Okay we have done extremely well this week - pats on our backs all round. We have managed 252.15kms, bringing our total to 1,118.15 kms in just 5 weeks.

:) :) :) :)

As usual I'm annoyingly late. I didn't make my goal this week but it could have been worse! I aimed for 45km of which 30km cycling and 15km running. I did:

22.18km cycling

5.02km running

= 27.2km altogether - about half my goal!

Must do better. Will aim to run twice and cycle twice this week - I think this is relatively realistic, albeit weather dependent...

Congrats Lizzy and everyone on the amazing kms recorded above. Even Scooba Steve who has been from the sofa to the bar several times :)

Swimgym profile image

Interesting thread, I've done:

70.4 km walking

3.8 km cycling

Will see if I can beat that this week.

I will never do much walking. I did 6 kph on the treadmill for 15 mins and 35 on the cross trainer. I will never do this outside.

Morning Lizzy

24 hours late to report last weeks poor effort, I managed 27 km way below the target that I set myself. My main focus this week is to finish the kettlebell challenge that I set before next Monday so with this in mind I am going to reduce my km target to 35 km for this week oh and avoid unplanned nights out!! Have a good week everyone.

Wow with Swimgym, Ruth and MrsG totals, we now have a weekly total of 380.55kms. This brings our overall total to 1,246.55kms. Absolutely fantastic. Well done everyone!

Here's to another great week KICKING THOSE KILOMETRES TO THE DUST
