I have had a few days where I've found it hard to stick to my diet. It's my daughter's 17th birthday and we had a family meal out at the weekend, my in-laws bought a HUGE red velvet cake for her, and they bought me a massive tray of baklavas (my favourite!) Then today (her actual birthday) her older sister baked a cake for her, which I had a small slice of.
I did indulge a little - burger with blue cheese and chips when we went out, a slice of cake, and 5 baklava. I'm not going to get hung up on that. It happens, and I thoroughly enjoyed every bite! My daughter took the remainder of the cake in to college to share and I asked my husband to take the baklava to work, so temptation is no longer in my way.
But I felt - physically- awful! I feel sluggish, and sleepy. And my SKIN! My face has quickly returned to bring red and itchy and I have developed a huge spot by my hairline!
I had not realised how my improved diet had made such an impact on me....and that is enough for me to be desperate to get back to my healthy diet!

You will get bk on track don't worry we all have what we should avoid at Birthdays and Christmas it's Natural you cannot miss out on grate accessions I don't n I am diabetic.
All the best for your new start in healthy eating you will do it fine.
You will be fine. I'm off on hols to fuertaventura on Friday for two weeks and fully expect to gain 1/2 a stone. All my past experiences have shown that if I am really strict straight away on return I can lose that weight within a week or so, so refuse to beat myself up for having a good time.
Now I am virtually at my ideal weight I allow myself to,eat, out more although avoiding puddings. The scales instantly show this but again by being strict for the next couple of days it goes again.
I think that is the secret. Don't use a blow out as a sign of failure and think why bother. Use it as a challenge to get rid of any weight wait quickly.
I had to drive to London and back yesterday. Took an apple and some nuts for lunch but on the way back I was starving. Got a small cone of chips that were delicious. This is a really rare occurrence but I needed to eat and just fancied some. The scales again show this with a 1/2 lbs gain. Not worried as I will just be more careful today.
I am not suggesting that anyone keeps treating themselves without consequence. I am 15'months in, 8 stone down and just achieved healthy BMI and I believe I now understand my diet and my body more than I ever have so know what works and what I can get away with.
I also weigh myself daily and for me this works by putting me in control. Any gain is dealt with swiftly.
Loving your viewpoint, scales will reflect variables, so I tend to weigh myself once a week, I allow myself cake about every 2 weeks!
I think returning to normal after hols tends to shift weight, always I don't go too mad, and don't drink, so that helps.personally I'm loving nut butters, 1 slice of toast, helps with shift work, along with eggs.
I think that is the difference for me, this time. My head is in the right place. I feel I can acknowledge when I go of track that I am human, I make errors in judgement and not use our as an excuse to say "I failed"!
The support from this forum, has been invaluable though!
I think sometimes it does us good to get a quick reminder of what life before was really like. It's amazing how quickly we get used to feeling brighter and more alert and how much our skin has improved.
I suspect that next time you're confronted with burger and chips and cake, you'll think twice about indulging
I thoroughly enjoyed every bite of my burger, but I would think twice!
Hi Nicherry,
I've been fancy a bit of baklava, you sound as if you all enjoyed your daughters birthday.
Dust yourself down and get on track, yes you feel really sluggish ( I do if overdo carbs) but a few days healthy eating will turn it around and plenty water!
Hi Just know that even when you do go off track you have got loads of support from people who have gone through the same thing no one is perfect all the time have a great week Gail
That is such a good reflection. I am the world's greatest glutton, but to my amazement have noted a similar effect. Previously I would have chucked down any old rubbish as long as it was full of fat and sugar... now I find myself actually sneering at the majority of choccy so-called treats and only wanting Lindt... and not even wanting that all that much! (luckily or the budget would be even further blown than usual
So glad you enjoyed the birthday delicacies and well done for your terrific realisations!
My colleague has a desk next to mine. We were as bad as each other, and we used to 'treat' each other....and ourselves!
Since I started my diet, all of that has stopped. For me. Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not having a go at her, because I was doing exactly the same a few weeks ago....but I noticed the other day that every time I looked in her direction, she was eating! Crisps, chocolate, biscuits and energy drinks. And I though to myself - is that what people saw when they looked at me?!
She has noticed that I have been dieting, and asking how I've done it, so I have introduced her to myfitnesspal and fit it. Maybe eventually, we can diet together!
Hi NiCherry. Nice to read about the celebration- baklava is my favourite too, and I also make the cheese version with feta and spinach occasionally. ("spanikopita"). Do feel we can splurge now and then (I bought myself peanut butter ice cream today, just a half-pint). You are already on your way to making the diet a life style. Personally, I find that a mild infringement about once or twice a week makes the diet worth it!
Hi NiCherry, you are good! Will write the recipe shortly - it's fairly easy once you buy the filo dough / pastry dough. Filo is better- more like the Greek and Turkish recipes.
When you put layers of feta mixed with yoghurt egg and spinach leaves, you can leave out the butter and it's less greasy as well. I will be strict too, the next two days, and then bake bread on Saturday. My goal is to go down 2 stone, but also get fitter.
