Another day...

So still going along good with the calorie counting. I was at my daughters yesterday( my younger daughter) and how good were we? Instead of our usual trip to town for some cakes, crisps and crusty bread, we bought sensible stuff. In fact, shes joined Slimming World so had already prepared her dinner which was a food optimising meal with pasta etc. I had a microwave sausage, a microwave jacket potato and a spoonfull of brown sauce. Her programme seems to be suiting her really well, personally id hate it, too much cooking. I like to look at a cardboard box, add up the calories, put the meal in the micro and its all done. :) It'll be interesting to see how we both get on with our totally different regimes. We both have about 5-6 stone to lose. We aren't competing tho, but supporting one another. I introduced her to the joys of clogging, and like me, shes keen to do that sort of exercise !

Good luck everybody today, im off to physio later :)

Haha clogging is clog dancing. Go to YouTube and type in clog dancing and you'll come up with loads. Its basically a type of traditional dance, a stepping dance and was done (apparently) in the mill towns years ago. A lot of clog dancing sides in the midlands, yorks, Lancs etc and sides dance out at Morris festivals , fetes, etc. There's also Appalachian clog which is done on a flat board with taps on your shoe...theres loads! And its a "Marmite" you either love, or hate it. Im a dedicated Morris fan :D

Lovely that you are supporting each other.

Cooking it from scratch will probably mean that your daughter can eat more volume as many ready meals contain fats and sugars which use up the calories unnecessarily but if it's working for you then keep at it!

Well done both of you for keeping strong. I agree it will be interesting to compare the two different approaches to the same goal. Good luck to you both

Hope physio goes okay. I'm a cooking from scratch sort of person, but can see the appeal of grabbing something pre-prepared when you're in a rush. Don't forget to include some fresh veg/salad in your diet though! Wishing both you and your daughter a great start to the weight loss journey :)

I will Ruth. I usually cook veggies alongside my cardboard box :) and I have fruit and salad veg a lot. Its not easy cooking as - well , basically - I havnt got a kitchen ! I live in upstairs rooms of my parents house and im not happy using their kitchen. Its working out tho, and I will remember to include good things. Happy cooking :D

I wouldn't last long without a kitchen! You'll have to be very resourceful. Is it a long term arrangement living in your parents' house or will you be able to find somewhere on your own?

Its long term, I've been here about 6 years now. I can use their kitchen, i just need to stagger the times with my mum, they usually have their hot meal at 12 and i could cook after that, its just, its not my own place, and id prefer to use the micro. I've got a briliant earthenware saucepan which cooks veg in 5 mins, a toaster which also does egg, beans tomatoes etc and I just hate cooking anyway- can't bear waiting for it ! :D The house will be mine anyway one day, they're 86 now and im their "official attendant " :D

I can totally understand about feeling it's not your own place, as I've lived in loads of houseshares or with live-in landladies etc. If you can get a shelf in the freezer for yourself, how about batch-cooking some things in advance, so you can make your own ready meals. By the way, a great thing to cook in a microwave is a sweet potato, takes 10 mins, and is delicious and filling, have with tuna mayo/hummous and salad on the side. Good luck :)

Thanks Ruth, yes I do have my own fridge freezer downstairs, and - wow ! Last night I actually cooked some veg and put on some grated cheese ...:D I like sweet potato, actually havnt bought any for years, I look for one later when we shop - :)

I don't have one of my own, normally use a shoddy work one that's probably not very high spec.
