Hi everyone. It is week 24 and my loss to date is 47lb. I only lost 1lb this week so my average has slipped. But I am not worried in fact quite pleased really as I knew I was sliding into holiday mode and had eaten a bit more than usual. The snacking was ok but my meals a little less controlled so it was a good lesson for future maintenance.
Next week I am away and either being fed by family or eating out. I have already done a bit of research and bought a few nibbles for my room to avoid dessert when eating out. I am expecting a gain next week so taking a week off weighing in. So when I get back I will have a few extra lbs to shift. I will be doing a lot of walking though so fingers crossed there won't be too many lbs to shift!
One thing I have learned this week is how I look at a menu. I am going out for a meal tonight and of course the first thing I did was went online and checked out the menu. Mostly these days I look for the healthier options but tonight I have decided to give myself free reign. Without even thinking I was looking for the meal with the most food - just like the old days - not the tastiest etc. Is this normal? I guess it is for someone like me - but not today, I am going for the one I'd like to try and not the one with the most food (meat). I am having 3 courses so why I feel the need to find the biggest main is beyond me. The thing now is that I am used to eating so much less so 3 courses should actually be a struggle. The plan for tonight is to pick a sensible sized main, dessert will be a must but again something sensible and not the biggest sundae they do! So there it is - another lesson in being me and hopefully another change!
My next post will be when I reach the big 5 0 (loss), hopefully it won't be too long. I have a goal to get below 20st by the beginning of October, so some serious work to do after my holiday.
Good luck to everyone this week especially the newbies

Thanks Lowcal. The walking will be in London but will be interesting. If I had been doing this last year I would have been thinking taxis etc and really worrying about how I'd manage. But now I have my GPS watch at the ready to record all my pavement pounding
Hope you and the other members have a good weigh-in on Monday I look forward to seeing what the overall weight loss was last week!
Hi Sueper, congrats on losing another 1lb. Your observations about how you look at a menu are interesting. There's an aspect where we're trying to get value for money by picking what looks like the biggest meal, but its useful to think what that value actually is. A meal out is about the company as well as what's on your plate. If you have healthy snacks in your room you can 'risk' not feeling full enough as you have back up snacks for later, although you may find you don't need them. The chats, company and overall enjoyment of the evening can make you feel satiated too. Hope you have a great time away and enjoy your walks. See you in two weeks
Hi sueper, very well done on losing a pound this week and 47 lbs to date is fantastic. Your plan sounds great and it's really good to here you have looked up the menu on line before hand as these days they display the calories in each meal which puts you in control. When I have a day with higher calories I away's find I can work off a lot of them by including a very long walk and it seems to work out so hopefully with your planned walks this will also work for you. Have a lovely holiday and enjoy yourself and that 50 will be here before you know it
Thanks Trafford1. Can't wait for the 50! I will def be on here showing off when I get there
Hi Sueper,
Fantastic result and I do like your eating plan for the next couple of weeks. It is really when eating out/family do's ( as I found last week!), but I think you are being very realistic on the choices ahead and I am sure you will be pleasantly surprised when you next weigh in 😃
Enjoy your meal out and time away, look forward to hearing from you and the big 50 Ibs.
Thanks Flossie - I had hoped to hit the big 50 before my hols, but I guess missing out will make me more motivated to get back to it as soon as I get home.
Hi sueper, what a fab weight loss! It is funny how the human mind is wired sometimes, how we equate portion size to monetary cost when really the real price of a meal is what it is doing to our body. You do seem to have the savvy on this, a monumental achievement in itself. You also seem to have the balance right of having a treat of a few days off plan without going crazy overboard. Hope you have a wonderful week with your family and you never know, the scales may surprise you in a pleasant way. 😊
Well, as everyone else has already said, that's a terrific amount of weight to have lost, you have done so well. It sounds as though you have the restaurant issue well and truly sussed it was a lesson for us all I think. Like you, when I decide to give myself a 'night off' I automatically think about how much I could eat, almost like I'm stocking up for the lean days ahead! Enjoy you holiday and I'm sure it wont be too long before we hear you've reached your next goal.
That's a very interesting comment about the way we look at food in restaurants. I thoroughly enjoyed my meal out on Friday. We looked at some huge wonderful cakes in a tea shop on Sunday, but just had tea. I did feel somewhat deprived (and still do) because they were so wonderful and not available or of that gorgeous standard where I live.
