Well done for joining this website. that is your first step. Take a look at the NHS 12 week weight loss plan. I've found it really suits me and is about changing your eating habits not just dieting for a while. You'll get lots of good advice and encouragement from members of this site so go for it. Good luck.

Hi Dody18, welcome to this forum, I am sure you will find lots of support here.

I hope your recovery continues and your knee improves enough to let you start walking a bit more. I assume you will need to be on warfarin for several months, has your clot affected your breathing? I hope not.

I would suggest that at the moment you concentrate on make sure that you diet contains healthy foods and cut out processed foods as much as possible.

Eat Whole grains i.e. wholemeal or granary bread, brown rice, oats, cereals but limit your portion sizes. I try to remove all the visible animal fat on meat and poultry and don't use any fat in my cooking. Make sure you have some dairy products every day, I have skimmed milk, low fat natural yogurt and reduced fat cheese. I realise that not everyone will agree with low fat options but it works for me.

I make sure I fill up with lots of salad, vegetables and fruit both with meals and as snacks. I treat myself to special foods that I would normally have thought were a bit expensive, when I want them, as I think I not wasting money on sweets, chocolate and cakes.

I hope some of this is a help to you on your journey to getting back to feeling healthy and healthy eating. xx

Thank you, I am not on warfarin, I'm on rivaroxaban for 6 months and possible for life as this was my second blood clot, both results of surgery, it did affect my breathing quite badly, as I am asthmatic, and mistook it for an asthma attack, which is rare in my case, as I keep it under control, luckily I got to hospital and a scan confirmed a blood clot. I am 75 so excersise is difficult as my knee is still healing, think weight gain is more with being inactive than eating wrong foods, although boredom doesn't help either !! But starting today, it's onwards and upwards, not outwards, !!!!
