Well done Mike,
I have found that the journey to health eating is worth the effort. You will have good days and bad but set yourself small achievable targets, no more than 1/2 stone or 3kg at a time. When you reach a target reward yourself with something non-food or put some money away towards a big reward. I think this is useful as it teaches us that food doesn't have to be the only way to reward ourselves.
For me if a special occasion comes along I try to make a conscious decision as to whether I am going to allow myself to eat something outside my normal diet. In this way I still feel in control and know that I can continue on with plan afterwards.
