Last Monday I weighed 13 stone 5.2 pounds, and today I weigh 13 stone 6.2 pounds, so I've gained 1 pound this week. For the past 2 to 3 weeks I've had bronchitis and a chest infection, and had two lots of antibiotics to shift it. During that time I've not been able to do my usual walks or any exercise and I've succumbed to the occasional comfort eating as well.
Thankfully the infection has finally gone, and I'm feeling a lot better. I went for my first walk on Saturday (short one) and a slightly longer one yesterday. We also had a few treats on Valentine's day - but nothing too calorific.
Today is the start of a new week, and I am hopeful to get back on track again and lose some weight, now that I'm feeling better physically and mentally.
I'd like to lose at least a pound and maybe two (if I'm lucky) this week. Good luck to everyone with your weight loss goals, and I hope you have all had a good week. Please join me and let me know what your week was like and how you're doing.

Good to hear your chest infection is getting better and you've managed to get out for a couple of walks, I think getting out in the fresh air makes you feel better as well, just don't over-do it.
I've been in the same boat, terrible cough ad cold etc. but it seems to be clearing now and did some gardening yesterday. Like you I've just had to have some bigger meals and some treats so I'm over 11st again (11st .5lb) but I'm not going to get hung up about it, it's a new week and I will soon get back on track😊.
Looking forward to spring (which is just around the corner) and being outside in the lovely sunshine 😃😃.
Glad to hear that your terrible cough and cold seem to be clearing now - it really takes its toll doesn't it…! Good to hear you enjoyed doing some gardening yesterday.
It's great to think that Spring is just round the corner and we can look forward to some sunny times ahead.
You'll soon be back below 11 stone now that you're feeling better and I hope you have a really good week ahead. Thanks for your kind words and encouragement. Here's to a better week ahead, hopefully free of further colds.
LC-poor you, that sounds dreadful. When I am unwell- not to often thankfully I am v easily defeated.( must have been ill for all of jan!!). Anyway glad you are on the mend - but don't push yourself to quickly- sounds like more than just 'man flu' -and will take you sometime to fully recover.
As for me I have been reasonably determined this week. Changed my eating regime - no bread, lots of fresh veg. I have had a bit of a blow out weekend tho- so undid some of the good work. But I can report a pound and a quarter loss. Feel v satisfied with that- it will do as a start. Not remotely interested in exercise at the moment- going to work on that in the next couple of weeks.
Off to watergate bay in a couple of hours- two booked meals out= lots of dog walking !!
Yes, I will be careful not to overdo things - I'm just doing gentle walks till I get rid of the residual cough.
Glad to hear you've been reasonably determined this week, and that you've made some changes to your eating regime that you feel good about. Congratulations on your quarter pound loss - that's great!
Enjoy your visit to Watergate Bay, and your meals out, and all the dog walking!
sorry you have gained a little but great news that you are now feeling better and starting to go walking again etc. it is very hard when you have been unwell to think or do anything regarding exercise etc. you are sounding really positive about the coming week which is brilliant. i weigh 13st 8 this morning, so a 2lb loss which i am very happy about . like you i will be very happy if i manage to lose at least 1 more lb this week. if i could do that consistently for the next 3 months it would be wonderful!! take care and dont overdo the exercise as only just getting back to good health sidcup 1 x
Yes, I am feeling more positive generally - I feel so lucky to have got better and I'm keen to make the most of my renewed health. I will heed your advice and not do too much though - as I don't want to overdo things and set myself back.
Congratulations to you on your 2 pound loss this week - that's amazing! Really well done. That's really great progress.
Quickly checking emails in my lunch break. eating very healthy vegetable soup made with leftover veg from yesterday lunch and wishing it was more exciting flavours. never mind. take care sidcup 1
Your soup sounds healthy - maybe you could add in some more flavours via a sprinkling of chilli flakes or something like that? It would spice up the soup a bit. I know not everyone likes chilli, but it was just a thought.
thanks for ideas. i love chilli but because i made the soup in a hurry with leftovers didn't do much thinking about flavours so rather bland. never mind, just need to remember next time!! hope you are feeling loads better and have had a good week. im very happy its the weekend. hope you enjoy yours take care sidcup1 x
You are very welcome. To be honest, I've not tried adding chilli flakes to soup - but I was thinking it might be quite nice… Maybe add it to a soup by sprinkling on top rather than mix it through the whole soup - just incase it isn't any good!
I made a Carrot and Coriander soup recently, and that was really tasty. Just used white onions and carrots with stock cubes and blended fresh coriander with it. It was really good. I've frozen some of it for future lunches.
It's great that it's the weekend! I agree with you, 'happy' is the word!!!
I'm feeling a lot better thanks, and hope you have a really great weekend. Hope to catch up with you at Monday's weigh-in.
Good! i make loads of soup and the best ones are definitely the ones i do from scratch. carrot and coriander is a favourite as is sweet potato and red pepper. my lunch today was much more interesting. i roasted 1 large quarted red onion,1 sliced courgette i medium cubed potato , 1 carrot slices and two cloves of garlic with a little oil for half and hour and then added a tin of chickpeas drained and a hand full of halved cherry tomatoes with some ground cumin and coriander for another half hour . at end mixed all together with some chopped parlsey and some pepper, had some cold for lunch today and enough for another day. really tasty, take care and enjoy your weekend. x
Glad to hear you are feeling better lowcal, though sorry to hear you have put weight on. Not a surprise if you have been under the weather, I sometimes think your body demands more calories when it is poorly.
I am very happy today as I have lost another pound which takes me to 10 stone 7 which is my target weight! Now I need to try and maintain this weight so have adjusted myfitnesspal and now have 1900cal per day to eat! Not sure how I am going to manage to eat 500 extra calories a day, but I will have to see what I can do. I will carry on checking in here for the next few weeks if that is ok to keep myself on track.
Good luck to everyone else this week, and I hope everyone achieves their goals x
Thanks so much for your encouraging words. Much appreciated.
Congratulations to you on losing 1 pound this week - and achieving your target weight! Brilliant!!!!
You are welcome to join in this weigh-in for as long as you want - some people come here purely to 'maintain' - it is also a challenging phase, and having support helps a lot. So feel free to join us for as long as is helpful to you.
Wishing you a great week ahead.

Hi Lowcal I am so pleased to hear you are feeling much better. Fresh air and a gradual build up of exercise will help I am sure. Hope this week is a better one for you.
I am feeling very positive at the moment. The antidepressants are working a treat and I am much more my normal self. I have been out for an hours walk round the village everyday except Friday (it was just too wet!)
I have lost 2 lb this week which is fab. I know weigh 12stone 8 lb. At the beginning of January I was 12 stone 13 lb so 5lb lost so far this year. I am aiming to be 12 stone by my birthday in July so my target seems very doable.
I'm really pleased to hear you're feeling very positive at the moment, and that your antidepressants are working well. It must be great to be feeling more like your normal self again. Brilliant that you've been enjoying regular walks around the village as well.
Congratulations on losing 2 pounds this week - that's really great. You're making great progress, and you're well on your way to your target for your BIrthday. Really pleased for you.
Thanks so much. I appreciate you saying that. It always feels a bit disappointing to report a gain, but I know it was a difficult couple of weeks, and so I'm not going to beat myself up about it - I feel positive now that I'm in better health, and thankful that I've got better. Looking forward to the week ahead and to hopefully getting back into a losing trend (weight-wise).
Hope you have had a good week yourself.
Thanks for your encouragement.

Hi Lowcal
Pleased to hear you're better now and you've had a good Valentine's weekend. I've woken up today with a suspicious sore throat, which is not going to be allowed to turn into a cold/bug if I can help it
Good news is I've lost 1lb, down from 12st2 last week to 12st1 this week. Maybe next week I can get under 12st. I can feel the difference too. I just feel less bloated somehow, even though only 3lb lost overall.
I'm sure that now you're back in control you will find it easy to get back to losing weight again.
Oh no, so sorry that you've woken up with a sore throat. I hope you're able to stop it developing into anything more.
Congratulations to you on losing 1 pound this week - you're very close to getting below 12 stone - I really hope you get there next week. It's great that you can feel the difference and that you feel less bloated. That's great.
Hope you manage to stay healthy this week, and look after yourself - you advised me to have the healthy soup and vitamins etc, and that advice certainly helped me - so make sure you apply that advice also to yourself, and keep healthy!!!
Thanks Lowcal - I just remembered I have berocca in the cupboard at home, so will have one this eve. Also going to take it easy today, and aim not to get home too late. Good luck for a complete recovery
So pleased you are on the mend now, I think you have done well to maintain your weight over the last few weeks with feeling so poorley and this horrible cold dark weather, it's not easy.
I am really pleased as have lost 2 pounds this week so that's 10 pounds over las 6 weeks, I have always been on some sort of a diet but this is the best I have done. I think more now about what I eat and ask myself am I hungry, which most times no I'm not it's just habit. The biggest improvement is not eating bit's through the evening after dinner, I've stopped that and am fine now, hardest part is kicking the habits.
Congratulations to you on losing 2 pounds this week. Wow, 10 pounds in the last 6 weeks is excellent progress. Really well done.
It's great that you're recognising when you're truly hungry and when it's just habit - that's really good, and you've managed to alter some of the less helpful habits - i.e. stopping yourself from picking at food after your dinner in the evening.
Good morning Lowcal, pleased you are on the mend, onwards and upwards now. I have lost 3.5 lbs this week making a total of 13.5 lbs over the last 4 weeks. I can,t believe it but thrilled to bits. I have lost a total of 5.1/2" inches from my bust, waist and hips. My BMI has gone down from 37.7 to 35.1. I,m so glad I joined this group and hope I can keep it up. Good luck everyone.
Good morning, and thanks so much for your kind words.
Congratulations to you on losing 3.5 pounds this week. Wow, it's amazing to hear you've lost 13.5 pounds over the last 4 weeks - you're very close to the stone mark. All those inches lost from your figure as well, plus the reduction in your BMI. Really great.
Thank you very much, I will be gutted if I don,t reach the stone Mark next week, I am bound to stick soon though, so I must be extra active this week. Thank you for your support.
So glad you are feeling a bit better. It will take a while to shake off the bronchitis - so great that you are feeling so positive. I am sure you will soon get back to your healthy eating now - at least you haven't put too much weight on - it will soon shift once you are getting more exercise and are more active generally.
I have put on 1/4lb - i am really not surprised. I have become a bit complacent with my 5 weeks of losing 1lb a week and have started to let some bad habits creep back in, particularly portion sizes. I am 12st 1/4 now - getting into the 11s might be a challenge. Our endless kitchen renovation work still continues and lack of cooking facilities has seriously limited healthy food choices - and not helped with my focus. I hope it will be finished this time next week - it has been going on for 5 weeks now.
I hope to try and get back on track this week and at least maintain my current weight - if not get into those illusion 11s.
Thanks for your supportive words. I'm still taking some Ventolin and a steroid puffer to help me fight off the remaining cough. Hopefully it will go away in the next week or so.
You've been doing so well with your 1 pound a week loss over the last 5 weeks, and gaining this quarter of a pound today is absolutely minimal - I think you've done amazingly - you've had all that upheaval with your kitchen renovations to contend with, and often people gain a lot of weight when stressful things are happening, but you've been dedicated and stuck to your goals - and seen the benefits of doing that. That shows a lot of dedication and resolve. I hope you Congratulate yourself for that!
You're very close to being under 12 stone - hopefully the 'illusion 11's' will be within your grasp very soon, and will be a reality on the scales. Hope your kitchen is finished very soon, so you can enjoy it, and enjoy preparing lots of healthy meals to enjoy in the Spring and Summer.
Hi Lowcal, I'm glad you're feeling better and more positive about the week ahead. I went from cough cold bug last week, to chest infection with fluey symptoms over the past weekend. I feel so horrible I wasn't going to weigh in today (as that meant I'd have to get out of bed!) anyway, curiosity got the better of me and amazingly I seem to have lost 1lb3/8oz. I'll take that for starters and try to keep it up this week as (hopefully) I'll start to feel better..
Hope everyone has a happy healthy week see you next time.
I'm so sorry to hear you've developed a chest infection and fluey symptoms (the spell-checker keeps trying to to change 'fluey' to 'gluey'), really sorry to hear you're feeling so grotty - hopefully you're going back to bed right now to get some much needed rest.
Congratulations on losing some weight this week, but please do focus on looking after yourself and getting well again. That's the most important thing. Don't do too much - keep warm and hydrated and get well soon.
Morning Lowcal! Glad to hear you are able to go for a walk again, that will motivate you for sure! In week 6 I have lost 500g/1.7 pounds. I was away for the weekend and managed to make healthy choices, despite my friend, who was eating croissants, chips and chocolate desserts all the time while saying to me "Have some! It's very good!". People should understand that offering food to people on diet is far from polite!
I'm attending two parties this weekend and I hope to lose a bit more before Friday.
Wow, you're doing really well - Congratulations on losing 1.7 pounds in Week 6. Also, really good that you managed to make healthy choices on your weekend away - that's really impressive, particularly in view of that friend of yours trying to tell you how wonderful all her snacks and high calorie treats were! I agree she wasn't very thoughtful to keep offering you things, when you're trying to cut back.
Good luck with the remainder of the week, and hope you enjoy the parties on the weekend too.
Thanks for your kind words - I'm pleased to be able to get back to walking again. I really missed my exercise.
Glad to hear you're on the mend again after that nasty infection, and well done that your gain was so slight given your illness. Glad to hear you're getting out for walks: good for the mind as well as the body!
2 weeks ago I was at the heaviest I've been for 6 months, but by this morning I'd lost 4lbs - so only 1lb above my (slightly random) target weight. I'm not sure how it happened exactly: more running, eating more of my calories as protein, time off work, or stressful encounters with my ex. Or possibly a combination of all of those things! Anyway, I've been feeling happy with my body for the last few days without knowing my current weight, which I think is a healthy sign.
Thanks very much for your encouraging words. Much appreciated.
I'm so pleased to hear you've lost 4 pounds this week - many Congratulations!!! That's really good. Great that you are very close again to your target weight. You obviously knew subconsciously that you were getting closer to your target again, as you were feeling happier with your body, despite not knowing what the scales would reveal.
It sounds like your thoughtfulness last week was definitely productive, and allowed you to focus more and achieve some great results.
Here's to healthy balance and perspective for the coming week ahead. Have a great week.
Joining you this week for the first time (accidentally posted in the wrong date...) . Want to lose at least 2 st - my BMI checker said 3st to be in the middle of my 'normal' range, but I'll be happy with not being 'overweight'. Started on Saturday at 12.8, and weighed in this am at 12.6! Yay!! Just hope it's not beginners luck...
Glad you found us! A very warm welcome to you, and it's great that you're joining us for a weigh-in. Congratulations on losing 2 pounds already - and you've only been going a couple of days - great start!
Are you following the NHS 12 week structured plan, or have you seen it? It has some really good advice and structured support. Worth a look, if you've not seen it.
Wishing you a great week ahead, and hope to catch up with you again at future weigh-ins.
Very pleased you are feeling better at last. The weight gain is only small and knowing you, it will soon be off. Good that you have managed some walking but as others have said, don't overdo it and build yourself up gradually. Being ill for a few weeks like you have been soon takes it out of you.
Well, I am 3 weeks post op now. Unfortunately, I have put on another 5 lbs in that time, disappointing, but as I have been on crutches and not able to walk or even be on my feet much, I am not too surprised. Hubby did very well looking after me and feeding me nutrious and sensible sized portions - however, when left to my own devices I wasn't so good.
I expected to be back at work last week, but was told I could only work part-time and had to stay on the crutches for another 1 to 3 weeks. Today was 1 week and 1 day, so I went without them.
I have walked a little more (not much more though). I am feeling a reaction in the foot, so tomorrow will be resting day. However, like I have said to you - I do need to build up gradually. I'm waiting to start physio, so that will help.
My goal this week - not to put any weight on! Have a good week.
So glad you're recuperating well following your operation, and hope you take things easy and build up your strength gradually - thanks for your advice about taking things easy after my chest infection - I am definitely heeding that advice.
Don't worry too much about the weight you've gained - it is understandable as a result of not being able to exercise, and you can get it off again soon. You've set a sensible goal to maintain this week, and good luck with that goal.
Glad your hubby has been good at looking after you.
Evening Lowcal my third attempt at this weeks weigh in sorry Tao hear about your gain, but you know about my theory as long as you keep weighing in you don't deny things, and the last couple of months it's been hard to get on the scales for me so thank you for this thread. That said my results are far from perfect I wanted to be under 11st this week and had our weigh in been wednesday orThursday then yes I would have achived that but an extended valentines weekend and a wedding on Monday, meant thst I am today 1/4 lb off. So my goal is a rollover, as well as not pigging out too much over this weekend. I hope everyone achived thei goals this week, good luck in fighting the fat
NIce to hear you enjoyed an extended Valentine's weekend - hope you had a great time, and also at the Wedding on Monday. Lots to celebrate, so you've done well to only be a quarter of pound off your goal - hopefully next week you'll be closer to it, and may even achieve it, all being well.
I agree with you that it really helps to be 'held accountable' to openly declare weight each week on this post - it certainly helps me to try to keep on track. I've felt a bit despondent sometimes when I think that I was so close to being under 13 stone at the start of this year, but I've crept up to 13 stone 6.2 pounds - but at the same time I acknowledge that I could have gained a lot more if I hadn't been coming here each week to post my weight.
I'm feeling positive about the fact that we're going to be leaving the colder Wintry times behind and heading into Spring and Summer very soon - I am looking forward to leaving the Wintry cold bugs etc behind and being healthy and fitter over the sunnier months.
Good luck with your goals for this week Prin, and wishing every one of us in this forum every success in fighting the fat, and being healthier and fitter now and in our futures!
Late weighing in again this week but I do have an excuse! After hurting my hip last week I wasn't able to exercise at all, I had the pain for a while and it only now has it pretty much gone! Just when I thought I was getting to be fighting fit again I have been struck down with sore throat, blocked nose, headaches and achey body! I was looking forward to picking up the exercise again. Especially after weighing this week and discovering that I have gained 3lbs. It was only a matter of time I suppose. Can't get away with it forever eh?
So my exercise has been delayed again with my illness as all I want to do is sleep... I have however, given up cakes, chocolates and sweets for lent which started yesterday. I find having a deadline helps me to stick to it. Plus when I did it last year I lost about 13lbs over the 40 odd days. I'm hoping to have the same success again this year. I just need a dose of good health now to get me back into exercising!
Some good news though hearing you are feeling much better Lowcal. It is rotten being ill! Hopefully you will shift what is left of it soon!
It's great to see you - and so sorry to hear you've ended up getting a bad cold/fluey achey thing - especially as you've just about recovered from your bad hip. Sounds like it was a bad one - stopping you from exercising, and at least you've not gained too much weight as a result - I'm sure those 3 pounds will soon come off again once you're able to get back to things. Do give yourself plenty of rest and look after yourself whilst you have this horrible bad cold thing, because it's not good to rush things - your body needs time to recover.
Sounds like your goals for Lent will be helpful - cutting out all those things sounds really hard, but hopefully you'll be able to stick to it - you've clearly had really great results from previous years doing that. Sounds good!
Thanks for your kind thoughts to me - I am so glad that I'm feeling a lot better than I was previously. I can't shift the cough yet though - it seems to be sticking with me for a while longer - but I have heard that some people have been having coughs for absolutely ages, so sounds like they're quite resistant!
Keep warm and look after yourself Sophie, and hope you have a positive week and can get better soon.
