Hi Deliwe,

Have you read the NHS website pages - there's a 12 week structured plan there, which is very good. I have lost 5 stones so far on my own weight loss journey, and at the moment I'm trying to tackle my final stone. I feel so much healthier for being lighter, but I do remember how I felt at my heaviest (18 stone 8 pounds), and I wondered if I would ever get there. But the key was to break it down to smaller goals - i.e. hoping to lose between 1 and 2 pounds per week, and trying to choose healthy foods wherever possible. Also doing more exercise. Gradually the weight has been coming off. It's taken a long time, as I go up and down in weight sometimes, but I just keep ploughing on, and I have used this community to help me to keep motivated - there are such a lot of supportive people here, and we are all have similar goals, and can understand what each other are going through. It's been invaluable.

Good luck with your own journey, and a warm welcome to the community. Hope you have a great week. If you want to join in on the Monday weigh-in, then please do. You would be very welcome.

Hi Lowcal,

Thanks for sharing yours, I'll definitely go on the NHS Website for the weight loss and see what I can achieve, I'm really impressed by your massive 5 stones weight loss, would you like to tell me your secret and some recepies you followed please, I've bought myself a kitchen scale but I don't know where to start, please give me the hints. If I were to lose your 5 stones that would leave me with 16 stones to carry around while I'm still fighting to kickoff another 5 stones, yea only if I can manage to kick of the first 5 stones, I tell you the final 5 stones would be easy as ABC. Please brief me with your own journey, my worst part is I'm surfer from Type 2 Diabetics which is not pleasant as a 5ft 5inch woman carrying a massive killing weight. Please do get back to me, in the meantime I'm going to google NHS Website now thanks.

Hi Deliwe,

There isn't a 'secret' to losing the weight - it's simply that you need to restrict your calorie intake and increase the exercise, and I would say that eating healthy foods means that what calories you take in are going to be optimal for your health. I don't often do any actual recipes - I tend to have some protein with each meal (like chicken or some kind of fish) and accompany that with lots of vegetables and some carbohydrate (jacket potato or sweet potato, some rice or some wholemeal pasta). I usually have my main meal in the evening - but I rarely eat after 6.30pm, which means I have a long window of time after my final meal of the day and my breakfast - which I usually have around 7am or thereabouts.

I try to do some exercise every day - usually a walk. I have bought a kettlebell recently and try to do a 10 minute session with that - I had tried to do 30 minutes, but found I couldn't achieve that. I used to go to the gym, but I've not managed to get there recently - so I'm trying to spur myself on to go again!

Over time, you can learn to choose healthier dishes from restaurants when you're eating out - but I always find that more challenging! I like to have a couple of pieces of fruit each day as well as a snack - maybe an apple and a banana.

A few nuts and some natural yoghurt are a good snack too.

I am trying to give up snacks this week - and just stick to 3 meals a day (breakfast, lunch and dinner) and so far it's going ok. That is a new thing I've just started this week. So far so good, as I've not felt hungry between meals.

Anyway, hope you have found the NHS pages to be helpful, and good luck. Another thing I've found to be very helpful is the Myfitnesspal app - it's free and you can find it online. It is a way of keeping track of all the calories you consume and it gives you a weekly allowance. You can also log your exercise too.

Good luck!

Lowcal :-)

Uniqueflo hi there I would love to connect with others in the same category, it's hard for me and for everybody I suppose, if I'm lucky enough to lose a stone I would surprising put it back as quickly as possible. Somehow somewhere I'm doing something exactly the opposite of what I should do I suppose, worse part of it is I am diabetic type 2, in this case being massive would threated a desaster. Let's keep in touch I am pleased for you that you've so far lost a stone. Please Keep It Up!!!

Hi Deliwe, I agree with everything that has been said here. Yes you have to watch what you eat and find some exercise that you might enjoy doing, whether that be walking, running, swimming or something in your own home such as Zumba, kettlebell, resistance band etc etc. You also have to be determined and when those first pounds come off, remember how you feel about yourself when you excitedly look at those scales and realise "wow, I've lost 2lbs" (or whatever) Take small steps and if you are say 21 stone and 4lbs, then just aim to get down into the 20's. Then aim for half a stone and just make small achievable goals along the way. I certainly haven't given myself a final goal, personally that would be too soul destroying for me but I'll get there, I know I will because I want it badly enough. I started out at 18 stone 4lbs 14 weeks ago and am now 1.5 pounds off the 14's. Gosh I feel great, especially when my clothes suddenly are too big! I wish you so much luck and never doubt that you can do it because you can. Keep us posted!

You need smaller goals girlfriend, think about 1 stone or getting to the next sone band down, into your 20's. - what ever you chose it's not a diet but a new way of eating, I have been following a pattern that suits me, mindful of calories, exercising more, since Jan 13 i reached my goal in September last year an I have been on maintenance since then and have lost another 1/2 stone or so. I have not been in denial, I weigh myself every day or so and religiously join the others for Lowcal's Monday weigh in, to be honest I am waiting for me to start gaining weight again but it hasn't happened, when in have gained some pounds during holiday if I remain vigilant they come off. Good luck on your journey we are all here to support you!
