Hiya. Just wanted to say me too, have just joined as I am sick of saying I am going to loose weight and never getting there. I am more determined than ever this time though, and thought maybe joining a forum would give me a bit of extra support when I need it. so don't be nervous! good luck with your journey!

I'm thinking of starting this healthy eating as my weight goes up and down all the time. I need to change the way I eat so this looks the right way forward. Maybe we could give each other encouragement as we go along as sometimes I'm motivated then it all goes pear shaped when I'm tired!!! Starting to do more exercise too!! Good luck :-) I would like to lose 19lbs in 12 weeks. No I'm going to lose 19 lbs in 12 weeks. Must be more positive too!!!

I think you will find smoking was much worse for you and probably more difficult to give up than losing weight. Good luck with your weight loss journey.

Well day one of the rest of my life has begun well. Healthy, if Spartan breakfast followed by a 30 min walk. In fact my diet is generally healthy anyway but perhaps it's been a little on the generous side. No, it's the exercise that I have always had problems with. Well perhaps that's an exaggeration. I've never done very much of it so it's never been a real problem. Hey ho! It's day one - let's give it a day or two before making any judgement.

Exercise helps, but it's cutting calories that will make a difference -good luck :)

Anything more than my lazy body has been doing counts as a bonus as far as weight loss is concerned. Bought a pedometer and was shocked at how little I've been moving around.

hi had such a shock this morning when I stepped on the scales couldnt believe that I am now a weighty 14 stone, had a total hip replacement 12 weeks ago so was. inactive for a few weeks, think I might have used this as an excuse to stuff my face.Hopefully joining this forum will spur me on,dont be nervous we are all in the same boat .Will stay in touch.Good luck

It's so cool having this online gathering. I'm loving it!

I reckon that I could be following in your footsteps as far as hip replacement is concerned which is another reason for dropping the weight. I am coming up to 76 and feel that this might be my last chance, also have some diabetes which is not good. It is also restricted what I feel I can tackle in the way of exercise. Good wishes to you and indeed we both need encouragement I guess!!

Morning, day one done.... 83 to go!! It went well, didn't feel too hungry. Thought about food quite a lot though!!! Had a stir fry without oil for tea which was quick to make so I didn't snack whilst I was cooking. Had a 20 minute walk with dog but was working all day then worked from home until 9, then bed so didn't get chance to do anymore!! Planning on swimming tomorrow night. Good luck everyone for today :-) we CAN do this xx

Morning, I started this all yesterday too, so here's to our continued success. I didn't realise I was starting, but on counting my calorie intake yesterday, I thought to myself time for a change. I am envious of anyone less than 15 stone, I am a weighty 20 stone and female at that!! Shocking I know, but maybe my admission will spur me on.

We can all do this, we are gorgeous people and should be proud that we are making the effort to make a difference.

morning, hope your day went well yesterday,my daughter was 20 stone a few years ago but managed to lose an amazing 11 stone dropping six dress sizes, she had some setbacks but stuck with it which I am sure you will . I am sure Ispeak for a lot of people on this forum that we are behind you all the way keep up the good work we CAN do it xx

Dogcherryred profile image
Dogcherryred in reply toLofty71

I think that by just going on here and chatting is a big step forward. If we get stuck or are tempted we need to chat on here for motivation and support. :-) I'm always starting and stopping new diets. I always say I'll start on Monday and then eat everything in sight until Monday!!! Usually end up putting loads more on by doing that!!!!

I like the idea of a community of starving, exercise bedraggled individuals sharing the pain and the gains (I mean losses!) I rather overdid the exercise yesterday and have been hardly able to move today. That'll learn I. (Yes, I am from Devon!)

Just made a fabulous curry which I have divided meticulously into 5 portions which means I have 4 dinners already made for some time in the future.

I have scorned 'diets' over the last couple or 3 decades as unnecessary, however, I now realize I have to do something to regain something of the youthful silhouette I once had. On Radio 4 yesterday a psychologist argued that it's easy to maintain a habit but that it takes a lot of hard work to change a habit. Ah well, forewarned is forearmed as they say

Hi everyone day one done and dusted managed to get through without feeling too hungry, kept busy for most of the day. Did a forty five minute walk then a bit of clearing up in the garden seeing it was such a lovely day dont know if I will fit a walk in today but with luck will double up tomorrow. hope everyone has a good day , remember one slip up doesnt mean you have failed we will get therexx

Day 2, week1. Hey there everyone, Yesterday, not surprisingly, went really well. Kept to the diet and did a surprising amount of exercise. So far today, so good. Let's all keep our resolve strong, cos things will get hard sometimes, and it's then when we will need each other the most. And, it's also when I for one am more likely to retreat into my own space and stop communicating. I shall try very hard not to do that. I want to be there for anyone else who needs me, and I want someone to be there for me too.

I think the weekends are going to be hardest for me. I can get in a routine at work plus there is nothing to snack on apart from my fruit at work during the day. Need to plan what I'm going to eat and make extra time for me so I can do some exercise. When is everyone else's weak points?

Nearly finished day 3! Had the urge to snack before but had a cup of tea instead. I've been drinking water/squash with my meals to try and fill up more as I've cut my portion size. I saw a friend today who I hadn't seen for a few months and she has lost 5 stone in 12 weeks on the herbalife diet challenge!!!!! She won £200 as she came second. I don't think I could manage just a shake for breakfast and lunch!!! How has everyone else done today?

martha12 profile image
martha12 in reply toDogcherryred

I to have just finished day 3! so far so good Monday will see if my hard work has paid off , have been going to bed with a good book to get me away from temptation cant be bothered to go down stairs for food. Re your friend who was on the herbalife diet Iworked with someone on the cambridge diet but as soon as she stated eating normally the weight went back on, Ifeel that these very low cal diets dont prepare you for keeping off the weight . I always try to keep a few calories back just in case I fancy a snack (meringue nest with strawberries and weightwatchers cream) YUMMY!!!!.Have good day

Dogcherryred profile image
Dogcherryred in reply tomartha12

I don't think I could manage the shakes, love my food too much and yes surely you would put the weight back on. I have also been going to bed if I start craving sweet things!! Not looking forward to this weekend but hopefully if I plan exactly what to eat and include a few healthy snacks then I may lose something on Monday. Day 4 nearly done, good luck with tomorrow :-)

madma profile image
madma in reply toDogcherryred

I wonder if we concentrate too much on the idea of giving up certain things, foods in this instance. Should we perhaps think more about the gains? Better health, less breathlessness, a waist, .....

I'm splitting my goals into bitesized (sorry) pieces. According to the BMI I need to loss 3 stones to be in the middle of the BMI range. That's 42lbs! and could take forever. So my goal is to lose 8lbs and therefore to be below 11 stones. Goal 2 will be the next 7lbs, etc

I feel that aiming to lose 7/8lbs in a month or 5 weeks is more manageable.

Hi there first time on here and have just started the 12wk plan on Thursday nite, I wrk shifts and suffer frm a sore bk. I need too lose 3 stone 13lb to be in the middle BMI and my daughter is getting married next yr so that's the goal for me. But as you said splitting your goals is a better way so I mite give it a go good luck

Hi there

Really liking the humour in this post,I like you am very sceptical about diets simply because I've done everyone going,I'm also a gold member at nearly all of the slimming clubs and then I leave very confidently and regain the lot,a story we will probably hear a lot on here, have a lovely weekend and I hope you manage to unwind x

madma profile image
madma in reply toBooster8joanna

Hey there, thanks for your kind remarks. Laughter is a great tummy exercise! Get working on the notion of benefits and permanent changes in behaviour, rather than sacrifice and giving up things. I know from giving up fags last year that if I thought 'I can't have ...', then I wanted it so badly. But if I thought, 'I want one of those and I might have it later, after I've ...', then I usually forgot the craving for a while until the next time. Each time you put it off it gets easier to do the next time.

madma profile image
madma in reply toBooster8joanna

It'll all be different this time, i'm sure

Can't believe I'm on day 10 already! It's beginning to feel a bit like normal, less effort, it's great.

Dogcherryred profile image
Dogcherryred in reply tomadma

Hi, how are you getting on? I'm feeling quite positive. The 'not' snacking and picking is becoming easier and I'm not constantly thinking about food!!! I'm starting to get in a routine and I'm ready for the weekend. How is the exercise doing? I'm going to start the couch to 5k tomorrow!!!

madma profile image
madma in reply toDogcherryred

I'm so glad you're so positive, I am too. Have come down to Devon for 5/6 weeks so hoping I can keep up a routine whilst out of my own space. I never let myself get hungry. I eat 5/6 small meals including one 'normal' one. If I am peckish I have a rice cake - it's like eating polystyrene but does the job. Thinking about couch to 5k but i'm 63 and never been terribly physical so i'm worried that I might hurt myself.

Dogcherryred profile image
Dogcherryred in reply tomadma

Lost 1 lb today. I didn't think I'd lose like last week! How have you done? If you read some of the comments about the 5k they say they've never done much exercise and because it's gradual it isn't too hard. Some repeat the same weeks if they haven't quite cracked that week. Have a go, you may surprise yourself!!!!

madma profile image
madma in reply toDogcherryred

Lost 5lbs in 2 weeks, 3 of them this week, so very pleased with myself. Dunno about running, we'll see. I am walking a huge amount more and also doing pilates from a CD. How about you, do you do much exercise?

Dogcherryred profile image
Dogcherryred in reply tomadma

Well done that's fantastic. I'm 42 work full time, have 2 children 13 and 8 and a lively dog!!! Do quite a bit of walking but not enough. We live in the Lake District so there's plenty of places to walk, but it's finding the time! I used to run a few miles a couple of times a week but got out of the habit and now I'm struggling to get back into the routine especially with the weather being awful and also being dark by the time I get home!!! Got a hi viz jacket now so no excuse!! I love pilates but not done it for a few years. May have to invest in a DVD. Which one do you do? :-)

Booster8joanna profile image
Booster8joanna in reply tomadma

Hi!

Can't believe how good you're being going to Pilates,I'm afraid I really need to push myself and do more exercising as all I do now is walk the dog(well he walks me actually)' I'm on day 5 and I've had a bit of an iffy day food wise,my body just seems to know that weekend is approaching and is trying to make me eat something bad and delicious lol, help! Have a nice weekend x

madma profile image
madma in reply toBooster8joanna

Not going to pilates. Using a dvd. Walking a fair bit and running for a minute at a time if I think nobody can see me. Tell your body you need something GOOD and delicious

Dogcherryred profile image

Yay, lost 6.5 lbs in my first week!!! Can't believe it. I really stuck to it though, which is a first. Aiming for 2lbs next week and to keep off the snacking. Good luck everyone with your week :-)

Well done! I lost 2lbs which is ok , though for a while I thought it might be a little more. Very pleased for you. keep it up x

Dogcherryred profile image
Dogcherryred in reply tomadma

Well done, I think I lost that much because I ate so much the weekend before! Hopefully I'll lose 1 or 2 on Monday. Need to stay focused but been hungry last couple of days as it's gone colder. How have u done :-)

madma profile image
madma in reply toDogcherryred

I think the trick is to keep some calories in reserve. Have smaller frequent 'meals' (snacks really!) I am so focused at the moment just concentrating on changing eating and exercise habits. Got to go down to Devon at the weekend for 6 weeks. Hope I can keep it together away from home.

Dogcherryred profile image
Dogcherryred in reply tomadma

I'm sure you will, just take one day at a time. Going to up my exercise this week. Just been taking the dog out after work but think I'll start doing some interval training and strength exercises. Will try couple of times a week and see how that goes. I'm going to take your advice and chop some carrot up to have before tea to stop me from picking!!!

I am sure you will get the hang of it - I only joined this forum and diet plan today so fingers crossed I will stick to it and not pick during the day......very deteremined!
