Sorry I am type 1, but I think that the advice for both sets is lots of healthy foods veg not so much fruit for diabetics as its quite high in sugar plus low GI foods brown rice pasta etc, if money is not an option try some of the fuller for longer meals from mands good luck on your journey!

Hi Scottish53.

I was diagnosed type 2 diabetic last November. I've been quite a big bloke for a long time, so it wasn't a surprise is have diabetes. However last October I made a big push to lode weight and I was doing really well. I lost nearly 1.5 stone in about 6 weeks. then I was diagnosed and was given medication (I'm on the same medication as you) and my weight has ballooned. I am now the biggest I've ever been and its really getting me down. I'm very self conscious about my weight. I'm eating all the right foods yet my blood sugars are very unstable,(low for a couple of weeks and them go really high). At my last review the diabetic nurse wanted me to have insulin on a morning but I refused to have it as it can cause you to put on weight. I'm now on depression tablets. Its really really tough, I fully understand what your going through. Just thought I'd share a little of my experience. Good luck

Type II diabetics usually do well on reduced carbohydrate diets. Lose the potato, pasta, chips, bread from your meals and you reduce both calories and blood sugars. Don't have cereal for breakfast, avoid sugar, fruit juice, sweet fruits etc.

Think meat or fish and two big helpings of veg, no cheap starch to fill the plate.
