Hi, welcome. I don't know anything about diabetics but to lose weight I would avoid desserts and chocolate. If you are controlling calories to lose weight desserts are just added extras. Good luck!

I think you should look for medical advice about food for your diabetes. What type are you? Type one or two?

For type two my partners mother is following the blood sugar diet which helps teach you what you should avoid.

As you have a medical condition that can be specifically and severely effected by what you eat I'd worry about giving you the wrong advice.

Desserts are bad for losing weight. As a general rule you can have them on occasion and still succeed but it's about learning to make different and healthier choices: avoiding desserts where possible. Unfortunately having a sweet tooth and wanting to lose weight don't go well together! So I think a good plan is to focus on controlling your sweet tooth and not let it control you.

Best of luck! :)

I am not medically trained and wouldn't want to give you medical advice, you need to see you GP/dietician for that.

Have a look at this and see if it changes your mind about sweet stuff?

From the studying I have done (I studied Living with Diabetes with the OU) there is no reason that a person with Diabetes should avoid any specific food. Just use it with moderation and be aware of the carbohydrate count of your food choices. Ensure that the majority of your carbs are not coming from sugars.

Linniewoo ,

Please take a look at both Diabetes Research and Wellness Foundation, Diabetes India and also the Gluten Free Guerrillas groups all on HU. You can also look at the Diabetes Research and Wellness Foundation's website for diabetes information and free leaflets that can be downloaded, read and/or listened to at anytime.

Type 1 diabetes is slightly different from type 2 and LADA (1.5). Type 1 is using insulin shots and counting carbs for each meal and snack you eat. You have to count carbs to figure out the insulin doses or you can go very high or very low if you take too much or too little. You want the doses to be exact for tighter control of the diabetes.
