Pcos fertility problems

Hi

I was diagnosed with pcos when I was 14, now 32 and currently TTC, I haven't had a period since January.

I am following slimming world and the weight is coming down slowly but off, I have also started taking inositol, vitamin d3, zinc and magnesium for around 2 months, however still no period??

I have been getting the usual period symptoms cramps, emotional etc. but no actual period?

is this anything else I can do to help regulate my periods and aid fertility?

Thanks

Hi Emma

It’s such a mysterious syndrome. What works for one person, might not work for another.

I can go 89 days without a period, then 32 then 42, then anywhere between those numbers!

Well done on the things you’re doing so far.

Things take time, that’s for sure. It might be 6 months until your period returns.

Is your BMI in the healthy range now? If so, it might return quicker.

Slimming World plans I’ve seen on Instagram seem to focus on filling the plate with low calorie food but you might need to fine tune it for PCOS.

For example, you want to include lots of omega 3 and I don’t think Slimming World encourage you to have a tin of sardines, some flaxseed, walnuts and a mackerel fillet.

Apple cider vinegar might help too. Research has found that drinking 15ml after dinner can have a positive effect on regulating your menstrual cycle.

Hope this is useful. Xx

Hi Emma,

I have PCOS and been lucky enough to have periods for some reason later in life, didn't at all in my 20's.

I've actually being pregnant and had several miscarriages (hopefully you won't have the same fate, I would never wish it on anyone), but with that I've looked more into my PCOS.

Weight can be a be factor in pregnancies, I myself also need to lose weight. Diet is key and carbs such as white pasta and white bread should be avoid. As should sugar, sugar in fruit to point is obviously ok, but refined sugar should really be avoided. Avoid snacking as our bodies have to work harder to deal with the insulin and produces more.

I've started running, as diet alone does not seem to be shifting the weight for me. Couch to 5k is a good regime, I'm currently on week 3 and the weight seems to be shifting a little bit more now, but still slowly. In my 20's it would fall off but struggling a lot more in my 30's.

You mentioned you are taking inositol, I took Infolic, it was recommended to me by a fertility clinic I went to after having the 3 miscarriage. After 12 months of trying I conceived after a month of taking the stuff. The recommend taking 3 months to see results.

I've started taking MyOva, as it is cheaper, but I'm not sure if I'm getting the results. I've bought more, what is now called, Alpha Inofolic as I felt the Inofolic helped me more and it does have some good reviews. But it is £90 for 3 months, so not cheap.

Have you ever tried Metmorfin? It was recommend to me as an NHS drug to take to help with PCOS. I only took two days and it really did not agree with me, so I stopped taking it. However, your doctor may prescribe it to you and you may have a better reaction than I did. If the inositol doesn't work. I was told it would help with weight loss, its usually given to patients with diabetes.

I've just looked on the NHS website and looks like there is a potential for surgery to help, if you still have no luck.

Hope that helps a bit! Good luck in your fertility journey!
