What do I ask at my doctor appointment?

Hi there community

I was diagnosed with PCOS in 2012/2013.

I have blood tests next week: full blood count, including fertility hormones, thyroids.

When I go back to my doctor to discuss the results, what do I actually want to discuss?

Can I ask for a copy of the results?

Can I ask to see a gynaecologist?

Do I want to start taking some medication?

Like most PCOS ladies, on the day I got the diagnosis I was told I probably wouldn’t have children naturally and then kicked out the door with no information.

Thanks everyone xx

Hey lovely

I had the exact same experience as you - just got told the very depressing news at 16 that it was unlikely I’d have a family naturally and to start trying as soon as possible.

It sounds like you have a good doctor though as 11 years later I’ve now been trying for a child for two years and I still don’t think I’ve had the tests you’re being sent for so there’s something.

In terms of about the results I’m not very helpful - sorry. But I would just ask the process so you know what the next steps are.

I definitely would recommend asking to see a gynaecologist- as soon as I started trying I went to my gp who referred me to a gynaecologist and they’ve monitored me ever since.

Definitely ask for a copy of your results I always do and then google it all at home.

Also would ask for an ultrasound to monitor how your ovaries are looking now.

I personally was told I had to try for a year before I could have any medication. 2 years later I finally got prescribed clomid and have it sat at home but then was told not to take it as I suffer from larger ovarian cysts and you can’t take clomid when you do (thanks for reviewing my history).

Now I’m at the back of the queue to see the gynaecologist to hopefully get something else and discuss other options but with Covid everything has stopped - so frustrating.

Good luck with your appointment, sending you love and baby dust.

Xxx

When I went to my doctor about my pcos she sent me straight to the gyno as they are the ones who deal with it and I had to have all my tests done through the gyno.

My gyno though is a let down I had my bloods done beginning of the year and still to this day she wont give me my results until I have an appointment with her and because of this virus that ain't going to happen any soon. If it wasnt for my gp I wouldn't have medication I am currently taking metformin as it's meant to help woman ovulate regularly to help conceive so you can have kids naturally may take some time... I was told I would never have kids naturally but 5 years down the line I fell pregnant with my lbs dont give up hope.

If it's your gp that's doing it they will be able to give you your results and yer defo ask for a copy of your results and tell your gp your trying to conceive ( if you are ) and they should be able to prescribe you something ( I know every place is different though ). Have you had a scan on your ovaries to say how bad your got it and if you got it both sides ect as I know some place you can request a copy of your scan results.

I hope you get it sorted soon .... when I found out I had it I was on google for days trying to find things to help I did find some useful things on there. I'm sorry if I dont seem much help you will have to keep me updated how you get on xx
