PCOS... what to do?

Hi all,I'm 36 and have recently been diagnosed with PCOS. I wanted to get a better understanding of what it is and how to conceive as we are desperate for a family of our own.

I had no symptoms other than recently having a missed period. I've had blood

tests and an ultrasound which showed everything absolutely fine with bloods etc. However the scan showing Polysystic ovaries.

The DR said to keep trying for 6 months and to also control my weight.

I wanted to ask if others have had this experience? What to expect when going through this? Any form of weight loss that has helped them? and what happens after 6 months?!

Also are there any form of supplements that I should start to take to help conceive?

Thanks

Beth

I’ve had treatment refused because of my weight, which I’ve really struggled to reduce because of…PCOS. My periods have been all over the shop since I was 14 so I was diagnosed at 16 and am now also 36.

In terms of weight loss, I’ve tried everything and I do competitive sport so I exercise a lot. Even with a huge calorie deficit I’ve really struggled and the support I’ve been given medically has been appalling (I was told to move more when I exercise heavily and to eat fewer takeaways - we might have one every 6 months) However, I’ve recently cut all free sugars out of my diet (I don’t drink either) and it’s finally falling off of me. I think you really need to find what works best for you.

In terms of supplements, folic acid is a big one. Some people find myo-inositol works but I haven’t seen any benefits to it.

Hi!

I see this is an older post, I hope you already got the advice you needed. From what I understand, if you don't have symptoms and your blood tests are ok, you can have multiple cysts on your ovaries without it actually being PCOS.

Did they check your thyroid? This can also affect periods, fertility and weight.

hiya, this reply is probably coming late, but as your DR said keep trying and you might want to stay away from Sugar/Sugary foods. For supplements I will recommend Geritol Multivitamin, SmartyPants Prenatal, (you can get these two from Amazon UK) Folate and Vitamin D from any Pharmacy near you.

I hope this helps 🤗

Vitamin D + inositol ... You can find different ones, the recommend for PCOS is 40:1 Myo to D-chiro inositol. I've been taking inositol+choline from Holland & Barrett
